Word For Mac Document Froze over top of another Word For Mac Document

I have two Word for Mac documents open, one with my notes and the other being my essay.
I needed to look up something from another word document that I accessed via an email. I downloaded the attacthed word document and opened it. It opened over top of my notes and froze. I cannot close the document that has froze so I would have to force quit Word for Mac, but that would cost me losing the document it has froze over as I am unable to save it. If this makes sense to anyone, I could really do with a hand, or be redirected where I could get some help!

All I can suggest is do a screen shot
Shift cmd3
or take a selection of what you want by
shift cmd4
save the file then force quick
or press the power button on your machine till it quits.

Need to embed a Flash animation over top of a html page!

Hello,
I've created an animation in Flash with a transparent
background which needs to be embedded into a html page with lots of
div tags. I didn't create the html page and now I need to place the
animation into that page somehow, overlapping with some text and
graphics. Every where I place the animation, it will sit before or
after the text and elements in the page and not over top of them.
Hope I am clear enought to explain what my problem is. Does anybody
know what I should do? I truly appreciate your help.

Treat Flash as any other content and place it within its own
containing div. Position the div in the normal flow of the document
allowing the div to 'stack' with the other divs above and below it.
If you want to place the Flash such that it 'covers' existing
content you can use CSS positioning techniques. Options include
absolute positioning the containing div with the Flash swf within
it (this removes the div from the normal flow of the document) and
placing it over the existing content. Us position: absolute; and
top and left, with px values to place the div where you need it.
You can find tutorials on absolute positioning in the developer
center or www.communitymx.com
You can use the float property and negative margins to pull
containing divs (or other elements) around the document, too.
Experimenting with floats can be fun but you need to read up on
their specific behavior as you can end up pulling your hair out.
Again, there are plenty of CSS tutorials on positioning and a
Google search should throw-up some options.
Outside of CSS you can use DOM Scripting and JavaScript to
also position and hide various content depending on your
requirements. If you get stuck come back on this forum and ask for
more help but provide specific code to help us.

Adobe Reader printing 4 pages, over top each other on 1 page

I created a form for my office in LiveCycle. It's 4 pages with lots of fields to input data. I extended features to Reader users, which is what my coworkers use when they fill it out. It worked fine for several months. Suddenly, the form is printing all 4 of it's pages over top of each other on 1 page.
I've printed the same file from a different computer on a different printer, and it comes out fine. I've also printed it from a different computer, to the same printer, and it comes out fine. So, therefore, I believe the problem lies with that specific machine, and/or perhaps its Reader settings. But I've gone through all the print and document settings and can't find anything that looks out of the ordinary.
Can anyone shed some light on what might be causing this? Is it a print setting, or is there a way to reset Reader's settings to default?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

It works for me. Are you sure you are hovering in the right spot? It's the dividing line between the filmstrip and the Toolbar.

Write over top of imported photos?

Is there an app where I can import a photo and write over top of it? I am in college and I started taking pictures of my project assignments so that i can refer back to them whenever/wherever i want and i'd like to be able to add side notes to it for ideas i might have. that way i can keep everything together in one folder/file.

Search the app store - there are some (iAnnotate was one name I remember seeing) to add annotations to pictures. I've not tried any yet so cannot offer any comments, but I know such apps exist.

I would trash - iMovie pref file - and re-try - sounds like this got faulty.
• Delete iMovie pref. file. iMovie pref. file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD) / Users / "Your account" / Library / Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie7.plist
com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
chflags nohidden ~/Library (exactly like this - space included)
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

Thanks for your suggestion about using RCDefaultApp. I am hesitating to do this because it seems like I'd be installing still another piece of software to fix the original mistake---downloading Reader.
About 20 years ago I maintained---with considerable handholding---UNIX systems of various sorts. Can you suggest how I might find the plist that seems to require changing?
BTW, Preview is called whenever I open some random .pdf file. The problem appears when I want to get a file from the web. If the site permits a "download" I can get the file, but if I want to "view and print" the file, the evil dark-grey Adobe screen appears with the whirling black ball. Then Safari quits. I'm wondering if the reference to Reader is in a "cookie" sent from the website, when I first was installing Reader. Is this possible?

When i right click on and email firefox brings up a web page options box over top of the email option box . What can I do to prevent this

When in final web mail or yahoo mail if I right click to work with an email message a webpage options box appears over top of the email options box. This has never happened before today. What has changed and how can I correct this.

Mountain Lion is a full 64-bit operating system. Why do you think Mountain Lion is 32-bit in your computer?
To check that you are definitely using a 64-bit operating system, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
uname -a
Then, tell us what you see at the end after RELEASE. If you see i386, you are running a 32-bit operating system. If you see x86_64, you are using a 64-bit operating system. Also, the processor of your Mac is 64-bit

Making a new component paint over top of others.

Hi,
I'm trying to make my own custom component (by extending Component). In the paint method, I just would like to draw a rectangle of some size at a certain point on the screen. I want this rectangle to be able to be drawn over top of any components that may already be there, much like a menu is drawn on the screen.
My question is, how can I do this? Oh, and I'm restricted to the AWT package only (no Swing). What graphics object do I need to do this?

you must ensure that your component remains on top of the components you wish to draw over. thats how menus do it. they use a glass pane or some such which is always on top of the other items. This is maintained by the main window the menu is added too. that window knows to always add other things beneath this glass pane which is on top. You should be able to do what you wish.

Cant put image on top of another image

Hi,
I'm using keynote 09 with the 'Blueprint' theme. I'm attempting to edit the master slides by putting a company logo in the corner of each slide. This works fine on slides without images, but on slides with images, keynote will not let me put my logo over the image placeholder. The placeholder image always blocks my logo, even when I choose 'Send backward' on the place holder.
Is there a way around this?

Sorry, I was typing fast.
The problem is that you cannot put images above media placeholders on master slides. One suggestion was to make my image (my logo comprised mostly of white text) a media placeholder as well, therefore I could edit the master slide and layer my new media placeholder (logo) above the default-already-existing placeholder (some architectural image in the blueprint theme).
This works but has an additional problem.
Since my logo is white text, I wanted for it to stand out from the picture beneath it. As I sometimes do, I thought I should place my white-text-logo on top of a small black rounded rectangle with transparency (like a cartouche).
I like to do that because it makes my logo legible, while still showing the picture through the transparency. INdeed, this is easy to do if you are only dealing with pictures and shapes (and not the magical placeholder versions of them)
You can make the shape a text placeholder, and you can make the image (logo) a media placeholder, but you can't group the two together as a unit. And if you group them first, then you cannot make your group (shape+image-logo) a placeholder at all, so you then cannot layer it on top of the default image place holders.
I was saying that I'd have to open my logo in photoshop and put it on top of a 'cartouche' and then import that modified image, and THEN make it a media placeholder.
But obviously it would be easier if keynote just let us properly layer elements as you would expect it to work.
I mean, setting images aside, why can't I create a shape and put it in front of a media placeholder without making the shape a text placeholder?
Of course I can edit my logo and add dropshadow or glow to make it stand out, but even then, I would need to make it a placeholder before keynote would let me layer on top of another placeholder. And if I'm going through the trouble of using photoshop to add shadows or glows, I might as well just put the image on top of a cartouche as originally desired.

Drawing image so that it appears on top of another

Alright, this question isn't as straight forward as it may seem. Yes, I want to draw an image so that it appears on top of another drawn image, but the image I am trying to draw is being drawn in another thread like so:

Does anyone know a way that I can tell the program to draw the image in the thread AFTER the image in the paint method (I know I should be using paintComponent, but this is a sample program. Please don't get too picky about it. I typed it up simply for this post and I wanted to make it simple).
The reason I'm drawing it in the paint method is because I am making an image move along a set of points. The points are formulated inside the run() method. If I draw it inside of the paint() method it skips points.

There are several serious (fatal) flaws with your design. The biggest is that you should NEVER hold
on to a Graphics object. If anything you should be calling dispose at the end of the paint method.
It appears that you are accidentally trying to use a technique called "active rendering".
You can do active rendering in Java but it would look nothing like what you are doing (and is much
more advanced). You must resolve to keep all drawing in (or preferably called from) the paint method.
Have your run() method call repaint() and have your paint() method have all the information it
needs to render the scene.
Also, and this is comparatively minor, extend JApplet.

Superimpose One Page On Top Of Another

I am trying to create a chart that is about the size of a business card and put my information on the back of the business card. I have gotten as far as fitting six of my charts (business card size) on one sheet in Pages 09 and my information six times also (business card size) on another sheet in Pages 09. I want to superimpose one sheet on top of another so that my chart and info will LINEUP WITH EACH OTHER so I can print on both sides of a sheet of paper and then laminate the sheet of paper and then cut each individual card out. If you understand my problem please respond.

View > Show Rulers.
With one of your graphis objects selected, Drag Guides onto your document from the Rulers to where you need them. They won't print, but if they distract you, you can delete them once they've served their purpose of helping you to line things up.

Button on top of another button

Hello,
I'm trying to create a dropdown menu and I hope someone can help. I created two buttons, the first has the main menu and dropdown graphic and the second has the menu text with a rollover.
The problem I'm facing is when the dropdown displays and I rollover the menu text the dropdown goes away.
Any input on how to put a button on top of another would help.

Try converting both your buttons into a single custom component. You can then give the component two states - one where the dropdown is hidden, and the other where it's visible. Once this is done, you can use the interactions HUD to show the dropdown when you roll over the component and hide the dropdown when you roll out.
Here are the basic steps:
1. Select you buttons.
2. In the HUD, choose Convert to Component > Custom / Generic Component.
3. Double click on the new component to edit it.
4. Duplicate the state, and make the changes in each state so that the dropdown is only visible in one state. You might want to also rename the states (double click their names in the states panel).
5. Double click outside the component to leave edit in place.
6. With your component selected, set up interactions to transition between the two states on roll over / roll out.
7. Run your project and check that it works.
Once you've done this, you can tweak the transition between the two states in the timelines panel.
