Word graphic links and stupid borders

I created a pdf from a word document that has graphics with links assigned, but when I tested it, none of the graphics links worked. So I am in the process of setting new links to the 100 or so graphics, but Acrobat is putting a black border around the graphics. Any way to 1) get tthe word links to work, or 2) remove the black borders? Thanks!

When you created the PDF from Word, did you use the PDFMaker Add-on? If so, did you have Add links checked in the PDFMaker Add-on preferences?

    That is OK. Firefox will only display the link in the location bar after the DNS look up has succeeded and a connection to the server has been established. Until that has been done you see the default setting for the location bar: Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest

  • Graphics linked from FM reference pages don't display

    Before I tell my department that they must edit each of the
    hundreds of caution and warning notes in thousands of pages:
    Is it true to say that graphics linked from reference page in
    FM do not appear in help files?
    This is a commonly use style:
    Paragraph Designer / Advanced tab / Frame Below Pgf

    Matthew Ellison- the baggage file idea was a help. Thanks!
    Here is the only way I could get the reference page graphic
    to display in a .chm help project.
    And note, this method does not use FrameMaker's graphic, this
    method re-introduces the same graphic into RoboHelp by including it
    in as a background image in a css file.
    - In Robohelp Project Manager, I must link to the graphic as
    baggage item
    - The FrameMaker para tag must be mapped in RoboHelp
    (Properties, Style Mappings) to a special css style that includes
    the graphic as a background image (see example below).
    - The graphic must appear in Project Manager list of images
    for the project file for the framemaker chapter.
    - And here's the deal killer, in order for the graphic to
    appear in the project file for the FM chapter,
    I must use the graphic somewhere in the FrameMaker as a
    discrete graphic. (It's not enough to just include the graphic in
    the folder using windows explorer.)
    So each chapter of FrameMaker must include a page displaying
    any icons being used in that chapter (can't refer to the reference
    page, must be linked to outside file)
    Weird.
    And there goes another day of my time...
    css style definition for paragraph tag with linked icon:
    P.note_elect_warn {
    background-image: url(electric.png);
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-position: 16px 28px;
    height: 100px;
    width: 100px;
    font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-size: 20px;
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #0033FF;
    text-align: center;
    PS I do all my stylesheet editing in Dreamweaver, and I don't
    have a problem, as long as I:
    - Remember to save the css file before I run RoboHelp.
    - Allow Dreamweaver file to accept outside edits to the css
    file, and reload the css file.
    PS 2
    In the CSS definition, the background-image must be in the
    same folder. In other words, this won't work:
    background-image: url(icons/electric.png);
    only this:
    background-image: url(electric.png);
    PS3
    A FrameMaker paragraph tag that consists only of autonumber
    text will not be picked up for mapping.
    You can force RoboHelp to notice the FrameMaker paragraph tag
    by typing in a few letters where the tag appears on your FrameMaker
    page (which you can later remove, and the style will remain).
    For example, if you have a paragraph tag with Autonumber text
    that places the word Thanks!, RoboHelp ignores it unless you add
    some content to the the paragraph tag on the page, like Thanks!
    ...for all the fish...
    Later, you can remove ...all the fish...

  • Better Linking and Packaging for Links, also integrated CADtools

    Suggestions:
    A more robust file linking tools so you can update an entire folder path name rather than each individual file. In other words, all linked files in that folder would be automatically relinked if they were in the same folder, similar to Indesign or Autodesk 3dsMax.
    A package feature which collects .ai and all links into sub-folders to bring to another computer similar to Indesign... a good way to transfer files to and from work or from one platform to another.
    Cadtools-like functions should be included with the program. Having to pay a few hundred dollares per machine just to scale accurately and put dimension-lines is pretty outrageous...I know there are other features with CADtools but the basics should be incorporated into the program without paying for a separate plugin.
    Illustrator is a few-steps short of being a robust program for those doing environmental-scaled graphic production work. Could get there with a few basic additions though.

    This is an interesting suggestion, but I'm not sure how it would work. I've tried outputting one PDF from this combo-indb file and then extracting the pages out into separate PDFs, but the links are lost. I've also tried selecting just the files from each of the actual books within the combo-indb and exporting PDFs for each one, but in that case it assumes it's looking for an anchor within the same PDF. Did you have another approach in mind?

  • Creating a PDF from Word, endnote links jump to wrong page

    I have a Word file with a large number of endnotes.  In Acrobat 9.5.5 the endnote links jumped to the correct page.  In Acrobat XI, which I just upgraded to, all endnotes jump to the wrong page.  Somehow when converting the Word to PDF the calculation of what page to jump to is calculated incorrectly.  Is this a known problem?  I see other discussions on problems with endnotes but they are for different problems.  How can I resolve this.  I don't want to have to revert to Acrobat 9, but it worked.

    Well I tried that.  I set the printer driver to Adobe PDF.  I then selected all text and hit F9 to refresh all links and saved the file and then went to the Acrobat tab to create the PDF version.  Using the application and importing the file to create a PDF causes the same result.  I can now see a pattern of what is happening.  This has a large number of endnotes, 525.  There are probably 30+ endnotes links per page.  I noticed that all the endnotes links for the first page that has the links all point to the second page of endnotes in the endnote section (strange that it starts with the second page and not the first), then all the endnote links of the next page point to the third page of endnotes and it continues that way until the end.
    Another way to describe this is that the first page of endnote links should point to endnote pages 1 through 4 but they all point to page 2.
    I checked and all the links in the Work doc are linking correctly.
    I wonder if version XI has been rewritten since version 9 and my case is too extreme for this version and it chokes.  I'm trying to rebuild part of the file from scratch and see if the problem goes away since there is a lot of history to this file and it started at least at Word 2007.  I'm using Word 2013 now and have converted the format to the 2013 level.
    I've sent in a bug report but have not heard anything and talked to customer service over chat but they don't seem to care enough to pass this to development even though it's easily reproducible.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Crystal Reports with Graphical Linking on Multiple Data source

    Hello
    I have a report which uses graphical linking on 6 tables/views which acts as the data source.
    4 are on HANA and 2 on a legacy system.
    Record selection filters are applied to filter data.
    Report's performance is incredibly slow on running for higher date ranges even for less than a month bringing back < 10000 records.
    Please suggest any tips to improve this.
    already tried below :
    Checked no printer option
    Removed Page N of M control
    Changed Order links to pick small tables first
    Crystal Reports 2013 connecting via ODBC to HANA and legacy
    -Jayakrishnan

    Hi Jayakrishnan,
    When you join tables from multiple datasources, CR processes the joins and any record selection criteria locally. This is what slows down the report.
    The only way to speed up performance is to have all the data atleast come from the same database or even better, creating a view that has all the required tables and joins.

  • Insert Link and Insert Image broken in Chrome

    The Insert Link and Insert Image buttons have been broken in my Chrome for at least the last couple of days (latest version, 32.0.1700.72 m, Windows 7 64).
    When you click one of the buttons, the overlay window appears with a title, but it is otherwise black with no contents.  (See screenshot below.)

    Whtat are we supposed to Claudio? All descend on Adobe with  clubs and try to beat some sense into someone!
    The fact is the customer is no longer the prime concern. Most companies don't give a Rats behind (toned down to prevent censors action) about the customers. It's the almighty dollar. Screw as many customers as they can while they can and line their pockets with all the green backs  as they can while they can. Then if the cusomers leave so be they take their money and run.
    Customer use to have power, they would speak loud and frequently and get things  fixed. And what with people from other countries now owning US companies, That were brought up with different moral compasses. They have no concept of this thing of loyalty to customers. The customer can jump off a cliff and they will simply cheer them on while the do so.
    We have lost, the fight can't be won. It no use. So Pat and others are right.
    I've been trying for 15 years for adobe to fix the issue of having multiple Pdfs created from Office documents because the claim they can't figure out how MS does Page and section breaks. And the issue of Weblinks not being active when converted to PDF's Both on Mac's yet on PC's there is no issue. I quite this year after I received a down right nasty not from Adobe say they didn't have any interest in fixing the bugs and were not about to try. What it amounted was go take a flying leap.
    They have the ability. They have beenblaming Its apple because they don't do such and such , or Microsoft because they don't do so and such. On the Links issue Saying MS doesn't provided the necessary hooks in the mac version of Office. They do you can take a Word document created on a Mac and open a PC and create a PDF and the links will be active. You can Open a Word Document in Apple's pages and all links created in Office document will be there.  The argument has been proven several different ways to be a an outright bald-faced lie. The defect is squarely with the Mac version of Acrobat.
    So Pat and others are right. Just throw in that towel. Adobe support of its customers is now 10 times worse than intuit's which is supposed have the lowest reputation of any software compny that ever existed.

  • Import from Word- all links linking too low down so that bread crumbs don't display

    When I import from Word, all the links being created are linking to the topic title, instead of just to the topic:
    e.g. href="CreateLineOfSight.htm #CreateLineOfSight">CreateLineOfSight</a></p></td>
    As a result, whenever the topic is longish, opening the topic from the link displays it with the title at the top of the screen and the breadcrumbs hidden.
    If I change the link to: href="CreateLineOfSight.htm">CreateLineOfSight</a></p></td> - without the #link , it opens properly.
    Does anyone know how to import from Word so that it links as I require. And/or how to replace all these links to the topic title with just a link to the (top of the) topic?
    I'm using RoboHelp 8
    Thanks.
    Ayelet

    Hi Ayelet,
                are you converting the TOC generated inside word document itself and is the TOC generated at the TOP of the document ?
    In such a scenario the TOC generated in Word document itself is the reason for this issue as the TOC itself point to that location!
    One more thing to talk about, and that is my personal opninion is that when we move to online medium or even document for any hand held device we should keep our topics short, the reason is that even if we have bread crums those will get autoomatically hidden when we scroll down the topic if the topic is long.
    So I would suggest you
    1. Better do some style mapping to sute your online needs
    2. Paginate the topic on the basis of style (like the one that has been used to generate the TOC) so that you have smaller and manageable/viewable topics
    3. and after pagination Auto-generate the TOC inside RoboHelp after import
    4. Can also generate mini TOC for better navigation, if you map your style to Headings style of RoboHelp and create mini TOC in the topic if it is long in place of the TOC generated in word

  • Word TOC Links are shifting

    This is a new one for me.  I am using Word 2003 and Acrobat 8.1.3.
    I have a 500 page Word document that is a Master Document containing 13 subdocuments.  When I PDF it using PDFMaker, all of the TOC entries are hyperlinked, but this is where it gets strange.  Up until around page 113, the hyperlinks work perfectly.  After that, they start to shift so that when you click on an entry that should jump to the top of page 114, it jumps to the middle of page 115.  It continues to get worse from there, so by the end of the document, the link jumps to a point about 7 pages beyond the point it should.
    If you use Ctrl + Click in Word, the entries are all fine, so it appears to be something that is happening during the conversion.
    Has anyone seen anything like this before?
    Thanks.
    Rob

    Hello everyone,
    I am facing the very same problem (Word TOC links are shifting in the PDF file, the longer the file, the greater the shift - first only by one page and then growing up to a shift of 4-5 pages with a 150p document). Xrefs and other links within the file are not affected, only the TOC.
    I use Adobe Standard 8.1.6 (only updated from 8.1.1 yesterday, installing the updates chronologically). Word is 2003 with XP (SP3).
    I have gone over the Acrobat settings a zillion times, everything is as it used to be about six months ago when PDFing was still working fine.
    Also I followed all sorts of advice such as eliminating any Standard.dots on the machine but one, setting to the Adobe PDF printer before updating the TOC, tags are off, reflow is off, a.s.o.
    Yesterday, a closer look at the TOC links using the Acrobat link tool revealed that the links on the page numbers work just fine, only the links on the paragraph titles and paragraph numbers are off target. Created in one and the same PDF and from one and the same Word file.
    I cannot remember when the problem started because I mostly tested the links in the TOC from the page numbers and not from the titles... So I may have published many PDF files with this error. What I do remember is that a couple of months ago, when Acrobat converted its first Word file of the day, it started to convert and then broke off without displaying any message. Starting the conversion again produced the PDF file. This is the only change I ever noticed and it persists until today.
    Funny thing is, I have another identical Acrobat installation on a different PC which was installed at the same time but is not used very much and is not connected to the network. It has not been updated from 8.1.1 and everything works fine on that machine. Acrobat (or Word?) do not "misbehave".
    Anyway, so far I sat here for hours changing the incorrect links (the PC with the correct Acrobat outcome is not available to me all the time) using the link tool and today I found a solution which is considerably faster and less cumbersome: I simply delete all the links on the text and the paragraph numbers and then drag the left border of the page number link boxes all the way across the text and the paragraph numbers to the left. The TOC then has links that cover the entire line, saving the trouble of editing each one of them.
    It's nothing but a workaround and does not solve the problem but I thought I'd share...

    I also found out that I am able to open it up under my windows profile on that machine so it must be a corrupted windows profile.

    Hello all,
    I have documents with lots of graphics in them and am looking for a way

  • Word graphics changes postion when upgrading from 2007 to 2013

    Hello,
    We have a large number of letters created in word 2007, with a first page header containing a logo. It is positioned on the page by giving xx cm absolute position relative/vertical to the page.
    When opening these documents in word 2013 the logo is still correctly positioned.
    However: When saving, (and Word asks to upgrade to latest format) - the logo moves a god 10 cm to the right and a bit down...Word is automatically checking the "layout in table cell" when upgrading to 2013 - and the option is
    greyed out and not possible to uncheck. (right click graphics, size and pos., size)
    Checking the positioning it still says correctly xx cm absolute to page, but the position is terribly wrong...
    Any tips greatly appreciated
    regards,
    Jon Gunnar Pettersen

    What was the format(extension) of the files created in Word 2007? What it was then after saving in 2013?
    Many elements may get lost if you saved the file with a different extension, you can verify this by saving these files on a different computer, as long as you have a backup of these files.
    So my opinion is to keep the format and don't upgrade.
