Word-like Handling of Graphics
The new version of Pages for Mavericks is a mess.
I started working with Pages for complex scientific documents with many embedded graphics and their associated figure legends. Pages was great. You put the graphics where you wanted them lumped in a text box with their legend and the text wrapped beautifully. In Word, one could spend hours adjusting the graphics so that you were not left with half-blank pages or overlapping graphics. Word was a hair-pulling, cursing at the screen, frustration. Pages was a dream.
The dream is over. The new Pages is almost as bad as Word at handling this sort of work. I am now cursing at Pages. Very sad.
You must update Pages 4 to v4.3 to use in Mavericks. You can download the standalone updater from this page.

Creating A Word Like Table in a Smartform
I am trying to display a text table on a smart orm. I know you can pull in an existing table to display on a smartform but this is not what i need.
Is there a way i can create a table display(grid format) and just enter in the text i need, i.e like creating a table in word.Like Venkat Ramesh V has indicated, you can create an internal table in the Global definitions, either by creating your own type (of type table) in the 'Types' tab or by using a DDIC (tabletype) definition.
You do need a workarea (type structure) or a Field symbol to be able to display your contents in the table loop, but this is something you already know.

It could be that the PDF file you're converting was created using a third-party application, and it doesn't contain all the information necessary to ensure a clean conversion. Have you had similar troubles converting other PDF files?

The first 7 or 8 letters of a sentence are jumbled as I type. This happens only after a period of inactivity. Short or long. I start to type and a word like 'anybody', looks like this: 'ybodyan' I have done all the normal fixes. No luck. Ideas? Thx
It's in every text-input app I use in my normal day.....most frustrating as you have to do a doublecheck especially in documents which do not have any special spellcheck system. I've done the cleanmymac, maintenance, cocktail, PRAM reset, Font Cache Smash fixes.....and still I'm dogged by this. Its almost as though the motherboard or some interface system is 'sleeping' longer than it should (if there are any input areas of the MBP which rest during short periods of inactivity) and then the initial keystrokes on the keyboard are somehow not registered and only 'kick in' once half of a new word's characters are already on the screen........grrrrr.

I just turned on iTunes on my Mac and suddenly instead of the usual song list there's a window with what looks like a screensaver graphic. Everytime I close it it just comes back. Does anyone know how to get rid of this permanently? Thanks.

Pasting from Word into PDF changes graphic size?
I send PDF newsletters to customers who like to be able to add their own logo or a sentence at the bottom.
In the past (Acrobat 8 and earlier), I would save the PDF as User Enabled. The customer could then copy a graphic or text from a Word document and paste it into the PDF.
Now, in Acrobat 9, with Enable for Commenting or Extend Features, the customer can still paste graphics or text, but it makes the pasted item enormous! For example, the word "Hello" is typed in MS Word at 12 pt Times Roman, and copied. When it is pasted in the PDF it becomes about 48 pt and distorted in proportion. Likewise a 7-inch banner graphic in Word becomes huge and overflows the page when pasted into a PDF.
This didn't used to happen. Any suggestions for a fix? Is there a Preference I need to set? A different way I should Enable for Commenting?

EliseThere does not seems to be any preference that can be set. Clipboard text or images are placed as stamps.
One option for people who just need to paste text would be for them to insert a text comment field and paste their formatted text from Word there. (The reason to paste from Word is because the formatting will be maintained.)
Your customers may want to consider making their own custom stamp for their logo and/or any standard text that they want to appear on your newsletter. If they had their logo and text set up in Word, they could create a pdf using Acrobat.com or another free service. In Reader, they could use that pdf to define a custom stamp. A custom stamp would eliminate cutting and pasting and could be resized easily. The stamps could only be used in pdf documents that have commenting enabled, but they would not have to create a custom stamp for each newsletter – previously made stamps would be available to use in future newsletters. -
I have some code associated with a Word Template. The template is opened, filled out and saved via a routing in vba. This all works fine in older 2007 version (which is version it was originally created in). Once this file is saved, the user can change the
date in a text box and re-save document. The code saves using the new date for part of new file name and then deletes that older file from the server. It fails at the delete function because the newer version of word is not dropping the file handle from the
first named file when user saves it to the new filename. In older version (2007) this handle was released as soon as file was saved to a different name. I can't seem to figure out how to release the old document filename so the old document file can be deleted.
I hope I explained this well enough.

I went back and looked at my code and had already updated it to SaveAs in the new docx format. It still holds the lock handle in place until Word closes, unlike earlier versions which released the lock handle when you did a SaveAs.
As a note, all my Word and Excel macro-enabled (dotm & xltm) templates are read only and are never filled in, prompting the user for a file name on any close event or if they run the code gets auto-named. I do the SaveAs and concatenate the file name
from data on the document (or sheet) that has been filled in. During the SaveAs the docx gets saved to a network folder and also on a local folder. The lock gets renamed to the filename and remains until Word is closed.
So my code still fails at the point noted below while trying to delete an old filename version after the file has been saved as a new filename in a new folder. So....
The code is looking in the last folder where the docx file was saved for the older filename so it can be deleted. The newest docx version has already been saved in a different folder and has a new lock handle of its own. That lock is not my problem, it's
the older file lock which really exists in the same folder as the first filename that the docx was saved to. It does not release that lock until I exit Word. My work around has been to instruct all users to manually delete the older version file.
The other odd thing is this only happens when I run it from code, if you manually go through these steps with the SaveAs menu drop-downs in Word it will release the lock handle???

Words like "tomorrow night" give the option to create event. Is this a new feature?
I send the message "tomorrow night" and these two words underlined and provide an option to create an event!
Is this a new feature or is me that just discover it?
CheI know it was working with numbers like "15:30" but i never seen before to work with phrases? (a simple "tomorrow" won't work.)

How do you get the dictionary for InDesign CS 5 to learn a word like "mm" as in mm/dd/yyyy
Sometimes I can't get the dictionary in InDesign CS 5 for windows to learn word that I use over & over. The Add button across from Add to User Dictionary is disabled. How can I enable that button & save something like "mm" in "mm/dd/yyyy?"

Problem convert word 2007 acrobat 8 graphics to pdf
Having difficulty converting certain graphics from Word on Windows 7 Professional PC to Adobe PDF.
The same problem exists on the same PC regardless of whether Word 2007 or Word 365 is the originating software. So it is not a problem with the version of Word being used as some blogs have suggested.
Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.4 is installed, and Adobe 8 Distiller is configured according to the settings required.
PDF is created by using Word: File > Print > Adobe PDF MakerOK.
Cracked it. I hope this saves you some time.
The issues all seem to stem from Word 2007.
Things to get urls working seem to be as follows :
all links in word can't have a trailing /

When you add a url, each url must have a Screen Tip. You should have this anyway if you're sharing your word doc. It is all for the visually impared and audio I believe.
You have to use tables and not word art for boxes.

I installed Dutch version of Firefox by accident. I actually wanted the UK version. Reinstalling the UK version went fine but left things like bladwijzers, bladwijzerwerkbalk and various other Dutch words. De-installing and reinstalling did not have the desired effect. I still like to have an all UK version without Dutch leftovers. Who can help to find a solution?
Can you right-click those items and change the name in the Properties to the English version?<br />
That should be possible in the sidebar (Ctrl+B).

Event Handling for Graphic Shapes
Hi guys,
I have a problem on the implementation of a piece of software that i'm making, to be more specific i implement a GUI. In this GUI i draw rectangles, lines and that kind of things.
The problem is that i want when clicking on a rectangle, an event to take place such as the drawing of something else, or a message, etc.
How am i to achieve that? I've tried many things but didn't succeeded it unfortunately. How am i going to "give" life to my rectangles by adding event handling for them? What code should i write?
Note: My class extends JPanel & i'm using paint(Graphics g) for drawing the shapes

I would like have a graphic object appear (visible) and disappear based on future slide
I would like to know if it is possible to make a graphic or button appear (make visible) and disappear on a slide after the completing furure slides that return to that particular slide. Basically, the initial slide has several buttons that go through several videos and questions. At the end of each series of slides, I return to initial slide and that is where I'd like to place a completion graphic. Is there anyway the visible field can be updated for a graphic or button?

Absolutely that's possible to achieve. You would use Variables and Advanced Actions to do it.
Basically you would need to declare a variable to track whether the slide has been visited or not. Then use the Advanced Action to reveal (or hide) the image based on teh value of the variable.
