Word on Mac OS X 10.5.8 "unexpectedly quit"

Last night my Word "unexpectedly quit" and I was unable to
relaunch. I am sure I goofed up - because Word went nuts -
I had been able to open to a blank document and see a
formatting toolbar - now it takes two steps, first to get
a blank document and then to get a toolbar - which is
not "attached" to the blank document. Also in Project
Gallery, "labels" for instance no longer shows, and I have
to go to "Tools" in the menu bar.
I did some research on-line and got a bunch of different
recommendations - some I didn't understand; none worked.
Is this a lost cause? Or is there a way to get back to my
"old self"? THANKS!!!

Is your Microsoft word application in your /Applications folder, inside your Microsoft Office folder? That's where it should be... if you move apps out of their folders, you confuse your system. Did you move any /Library folders, or /Library/Receipts, or Users/yourname/Library?
If you have to re-install Office, go to /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office/Remove Office.app
To re-install, you will need the disc.

  • Mac ID CS2 (4.0.5) unexpected quits on launch

It also sometimes asks for the serial number after a restart, but when I supply it, it gets rejected as incorrect (it IS the correct serial number, as I verified when I tried to reinstall--see below)
    I've tried the following:
    Trashing user prefs
Logging in from a testing account
    Running permissions repair
I haven't installed anything (though I think I may have run a recent apple update since the last time I launched it). Here's part of the crash report:
    OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
-->I've also seen it report EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000080000004
    Crashed Thread:  0
I also have CS3 premium installed on my machine. I was going to just re-install ID CS2, but since I have ID CS3 the option to install is grayed out.
Any suggestions? I need CS2 since that's what we use at work--it'll make my life a lot easier when I need to take work home!

  • I'm using Word for Mac. Though there are various instructions on the Internet for modifying the templates, none make sense to me. They instruct to do something I can't follow. I change a template but can't save it to the template folder.

    What the ****.
OK, I try to change a template using Word for Mac version 14.3.4 2011 edition.
I make a change to the template but am unable to save the darned thing to the template folder; it asks for a file name like it's a new document. I want to change the blasted template but if I can't save it as a modified template, I've accomplished nothing.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

If anyone has anyideas of what is going on or could even help me thank you.

    Glad that helped.
As time goes by (months or years), keep your eyes on how long Microsoft continues to support Office 2011 for Mac.  Eventually you should consider Office 365 or Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

  • Issues with Microsoft Word for mac closing when I try to open old or newly downloaded documents

When I download a document from my professor, or try to open an older document, my word automatically quits. If it's already closed and I try to open a document, it will show the dot at the bottom of the icon that it's loading to open but it quickly disappears and quits itself. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

If that doesn't help, I'd suggest you take up the question in Microsoft's own forums or with Microsoft support.

  • Users of Word for Mac:  Help on Two Issues!!

I downloaded some fonts I wanted to use in my Word for Mac document. Download went fine and the fonts are happily nestled in the Fonts folder. However, when I open Word, they do not appear on the Font listing. Any thoughts as to how to get them over so I can use them?
Also, I wanted to use the Fonts to create a logo that--ideally--would be a half circle of text over the design. Simple enough, I thought: just go into Toolbox and pull down the styles (like you can in Windows) and choose the style I want.
No such luck (we are dealing with a Mac here so everything is special) but suddenly a "special styles" toolbox appeared with exactly what I wanted--the ability to format a font to a 180' half circle, mirror image text and some other stuff that seemed interesting!
When I went back to the document to format the text the "special styles" toolbox disappeared, never to be found again. Sigh...
Any ideas? Oh, yes, there is a 180' in "Word Art" but I can't get the downloaded fonts into there, so that isn't really a solution.

Okay, here are the details: Word for Mac 2008 Ver. 12.2.8
Yes, I did post to the MS Forums.
Still no answer from either MS or MAC forums.
Sorry, but this doesn't strike me at that tough a question, hence the *****. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who uses Word for Mac and I'm equally sure I'm not the first one to download a font that didn't load into Word for Mac. The answer is out there somewhere....

  • How can I send emails to a list of email addresses using mail merge  feature in Microsoft Word for Mac? It would work with the power pc but not with macbook Air

I want to send an email and personalize it to several contacts. I could always do it with my old Power PC using Microsoft Office Word for Mac but cannot access my emailoption when I use the Macbook Air. Anyone have a solution??

No way for us to know for sure (without similar product/issues) but the
HP Support site suggests that with the current Mavericks OS X 10.9.x
their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/HP-Product-Support-using- Apple-Software-Updates-for-new-OS-X/td-p/3086229
However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that
already had been known to be working under OS X as of that date in a
prior OS X (such as 10.8.5, 10.7.5, 10.6.8, etc) with earlier product support.
•Drivers and Downloads for Printers, Scanners, & More - HP Support:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html
A link to Mac OS X Support's List Printer & Scanner software (HP+ Other)
•OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
    HP Officejet t65 All-in-One Printer
{According to this page, your old printer has only Windows & Linux drivers
but you may or may not look into third-party driver support through such
    sites as Gimp; though unlikely to be available with Mavericks, or Yosemite}
    •HP Support Forum - Home:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/?lang=en&cc=us
You may be able to get a deal on a new printer as they are rapidly obsoleted.
PS: edit to add... there was a Gutenprint driver reference for T65 Printer here:
Mac OS X 10.5: Included printer drivers
Yet a driver for ancient Leopard 10.5.x may not be suitable for Mavericks 10.9.x
but the Gutenprint lead may be helpful to locate whatever may exist; or not.

    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I create a new folder in Word for Mac ?

How can I create a new folder in Word for Mac?

You don't do this in Word. You do it in the OS X Finder.
All you need do in Word is open the file, then select Save As from Word's File menu. Change the destination to your new folder then click on the Save button.
The Finder method is much faster if you have a number of files you want to move. Just remember that to open those moved files in Word, you will have to change the directory from which you will open those files.

No.  Create a playlist that you then sync to your iPod, and choose whatever view you wish of the playlist within iTunes.

  • Can you open with Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft word for Mac?

Can you open in Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft Word for Mac?

Pages '09 will open .doc files from Word 2004. The Mac OS is not what is in question. Pages '09 opens Word 2004 documents and if the same version of Pages will run in Lion and in Mountain Lion ..... Thats all that matters.
I trust you were using MS Office 2004 and would now like to buy Pages?

  • Does anyone know why the word count in Word for Mac changes so drastically? In one document it goes up and down by several hundred at a time when I have done nothing but scroll through the document.

I am new to the wonderful world of Mac and all of my documents were created in MS Word on my old laptop. I noticed that the word counts were slightly different when I opened the documents in Word for Mac, but then I noticed that they changed drastically. For intance, I opened a document today and after the initial period where the word count shifts, it seemed to settle on 13,171. I left the document for a while to work on some other things and when I came back the word count had changed to 11,677. I didn't do anything to the document. Word counts are important to me since I need at least 60,000 for my PhD Dissertation. Which word count should I trust?

Since Word is a Microsoft product, you should probably post your question on the Microsoft Mac forums:

  • Word for Mac no longer working since updating

Since updating to lion my Word for Mac won't open

You're welcome. You might want to check for other PPC apps to avoid being caught off guard again. If you go to the Apple Menu and choose About This a Mac, then click more info, then a System Report, and finally Applications (or Software I can't remember) you can see how each application is coded. Anything that has PPC next to the mane will no longer work.
