  • With multiple Office 2013 items opened, Word opens an invisible document

Using Windows 7 64-bit, 4GB RAM, and Office Plus 2013, fully updated as of 03/31/2015:
User has multiple Excel windows open, multiple Outlook windows open and multiple Word windows open (4 word docs/windows) -
When the user opens a 5th Word document, a 5th item appears on the taskbar, but it is invisible (just a document outline).  This happened today as a result of a mail merge.  The merge happened, opened the new resulting doc, but was not visible.
We hit the red "X" on the taskbar item to which it asked if we wanted to save.  We did, and then opened the saved doc from her docs directory and it opened fine.  Obviously Word is working but just not showing up.  This seems
to happen only when multiple Office items are open.  Is this an Office bug?  User has about 79% RAM in use at the time of this glitch, but never over-subscribed.

    Hi,
As far as I know, this issue usually occurs with Windows7 and Office 2013. Please try the below methods:
File - Options - Advanced - General section - check the box for "ignore other apps that use DDE".
File - Options- Advanced - Display - uncheck Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
    Update display card driver
Increase virtual memory (We'd better use more RAM)
    Hope it's helpful.

  • Errors closing Word multiple documents

Since upgrading to GroupWise 7 Support Pack 3 this problem occurs for everyone: Multiple Word documents have been opened. Closing any of the open Word documents will cause the message to appear 'This file is in use by another application or user'. The user will click 'OK'. Then the window will appear to 'Save the document'. The user will select 'Cancel', then try again to close the document. Then the error message appears: 'Changes have been made that affect the global template Normal.DOT. Do you want to save those changes?' The user then selects 'No'.
This happens every time more than 1 Word document is open.
Is there a fix for this problem? Much obliged for any help.

I just tried it & yes it does go away if you don't open it through GW so that does help me avoid the error messages at least. As for upgrading... not that I'm aware of.
Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I guess I'll live with it until the powers that be decide to step into the year 2009! :)

  • Modifying a filename using the first word contained in the document.

    Hi,
I recovered around 2500 .doc files, lost in a drive fail (I know) and I've been trying to find a way to speed up the renaming process : I'm trying to create a macro that could grab the first characters, or first word of each file and replace Its filename with those characters. In a 2500-docs batch. I tried a lost of things, but am not sure if it's doable with Applescript.
    Help ?
    Thanks.

There are no bells and whistles here - e.g. minimal error checking - but this should give the basic pattern for applescript. Copy it into the applescript editor, save it as an application, then drag&drop files onto the application.

  • Opening a Pages document on a PC???

Hi...can Microsoft Word open a Pages document??
    Wondering?
    R

    mac,
Yes, Word can open a Pages document. But first you have to use Pages to Export it to Word format. Not a big deal. Just know that the more complicated the Pages doc is (i.e. text boxes, graphics, weird stuff), the less faithfully it's likely to be rendered in Word. But simpler docs do well.

  • Opening up Word 2011 document and multiple documents open up

Why is it that when I open up a Word 2011 document, it opens up multiple previous word documents.  How do I change this?

  • Multiple documents opening

How can I stop multiple documents from opening in word and excel? Every time I open a document, it also opens two or three previous documents that I don't want to open.

    Quit Excel.
Try deleting the microsoft excel document in Saved Application State folder located in your Home Library.
In the Finder menu, select Go, then Go To Folder and paste:
    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.microsoft.Excel.savedState
Once deleted, open Excel. Close all windows that open, then quit Excel. Open again and see if it solves the problem.

  • Why can't close open multiple docs in Word 2010 in multiple windows while having the option to close them out while keeping Word open?

End User of mine is wanting to open multiple docs in Word 2010.....first initial glance I thought it was a PICNIC issue. But when addressing it she has it set up to NOT "Show all windows in the taskbar" that option is unchecked so that way she
can close out docs in Word and not actually close Word. But with unchecking that box it only stacks the docs it won't display them in mutliple windows. This is not the case with Excel as she has the option enabled to "Show all windows in the taskbar"
but yet the enduser still has the option to close out the spreadsheet and keep Excel open. Is there anyway to keep that second smaller x in Word to close out the docs but yet open in multiple windows like Excel does?
    Please advise!
Thank you and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi VyDrix13,
What will happen if you check the option of “Show all windows in the taskbar”?
If you want to closing document and keep Word open, the alternative is to click File > Close, right there under Open and Save.
You also can add the Close button to the Quick Access Toolbar.
If there is anything that I can do for you regarding this issue, feel free to post back.

  • How to open and read pdf and micrsoft word (.doc) files or documents

My problem is how to use my BB 9800 software version 6.0.0.546 to read/view pdf files and microsoft office documents. I have also bought documents to go from online and have installed it on my phone, but whenever i try to open it I receive a message that it is incompactible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Sammy.
Why not install a 3rd party PDF reader and Word Doc reader to help open and read pdf and micrsoft word (.doc) files or documents? You can google it and select one whose way of processing is simple and fast to help you with the related converting work.  It will be better if it is totally manual and can be customized by users according to our own favors. Remember to check its free trial package first if possible. I hope you success. Good luck.

THis is safe for Mac's? Sorry, I have just never heard of this site before.
And there are literally tens of thousands of sites of which I've not heard, too. Not this one.
It's legit. There are lots of links in Apple Support Communities to the LibreOffice web site, as well as others that are legitimate open-source developers of options to buying MS Office, such as NeoOffice and OpenOffice. I have Open Office installed on one of my older Macs that can't run Office 2011 and it is rock-solid.
I've been here too long to start posting bogus urls now.

  • Can you open with Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft word for Mac?

Can you open in Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft Word for Mac?

Pages '09 will open .doc files from Word 2004. The Mac OS is not what is in question. Pages '09 opens Word 2004 documents and if the same version of Pages will run in Lion and in Mountain Lion ..... Thats all that matters.
I trust you were using MS Office 2004 and would now like to buy Pages?

  • Need to delete multiple documents at the same time from micro soft word

  • What's happening when Word opens and saves a document?

    Hello,
I got very unspecific question, but I don't know where to start. I have an open xml document which gets generated by a third party tool. If I open the document using open xml sdk it looks VERY different from how it looks like when I opened and saved it before
    using Word 2013.
I'm trying to get an understanding on whats Word doing! From what I've seen it's doing some remodelling on the xml file, since it looks very different (other and way more descendants than before) and I would like to achieve the same thing using open xml.
Although this might be already to much information: The generated word documents contains html code with links to pictures. After Word has touched the file the picture is inside a drawing element, before it's not but in Word both versions look the same.
I'm thankful for any help you can give me.
    Cheers Andreas

    Hi Cheers Andreas,
    >> If I open the document using open xml SDK it looks VERY different from how it looks like when I opened and saved it before using Word 201
    >> What's happening when Word opens and saves a document?
This forum is discussing about Open XML developing. This is not exactly an OpenXML SDK questions. To be frank, I do not know exactly what Word opens and saves a documents either (this is the implementation details of the product).
If you are interested on it, the forum below might be more appropriate for you:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=os_binaryfile
    >> From what I've seen it's doing some remodelling on the xml file, since it looks very different (other and way more descendants than before) and I would like to achieve the same thing using open xml.
What do you mean by “other and way more descendants”? Do you mean that you want to add new nodes in the xml document? In my option, different objects in word have different nodes. You could refer the link below for more information about Word processing.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/office/cc850833.aspx
If you have issues about OpenXML SDK, since it is a new issue which is different from your original issue, I suggest you post a new thread for the new issue in this forum. Then there would be more community members to discuss the question.
    Best Regards,
    Edward

  • Acrobat 9 hangs with multiple documents open

HP pro 6200 4 G RAM, Win7Pro, Acrobat 9(fully updated), single computer affected, multiple users, documents are from C drive, network, and USB
I've run a repair install, removed the popups/lines and other markup notifications, held shift down when starting to not load add-ins, logged in as another user, updated video card drivers, sprinkled fairy dust, changed desktop resolution(set at 800x600 per user preference), opened same documents on another computer with no problems, and yet I still cannot find out what is causing Acrobat 9 to hang after multiple pages are opened.  Sometimes it will hang completely and I have to go into task manager and kill it, other times the page has a hard time painting as I scroll.  The memory usage doesn't go over 100k in task manager.  If we  close out of the documents with task manager and open them back up it is fine for a while, then it starts back up again.  This seems like a common issue but all the common fixes I found aren't working.  I was not able to find a "preferences" folder under his user folder to delete those settings.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

  • Opening multiple document in single instance (window)

Someone here mentioned this: "Acrobat 9 no longer supports opening multiple documents in the same window."
This is disappointing.. does anyone know the workaround / hack?
    Running Acrobat 9 Standard.
    Thanks,
    Devin

Unfortunately yes you're correct. The cause was due to no MDI support, which Adobe removed starting at v9.
    Link: http://blogs.adobe.com/acrobat/2008/09/mdi_vs_sdi_in_acrobat.html
If I find a workaround worth mentioning, I'll post it here later.
    Thanks.
