Word processing for iPad

have not been able to find an Apple or 3rd party word processing ap for iPad....maybe I am not looking at the right place....can you help.

Other options include Documents To Go, iWrite, and many others. Search the App Store or a compendium site like AppShopper for "word processor" or something similar and you'll find a number of options.

  • Word processing for MacBook Pro

I want to buy word processing for my MacBook Pro. (Please keep in mind I don't know much about computers and buying things that have to be installed scares me that I'm going to ruin the computer!) The computer is one year old and did not come with word processing.
    Here are my concerns:
    1. I think I need to go to the Mac Store and buy Pages, Numbers, and Keynote all separately, right. I can't just buy iWork and get it all together cheaper?
    2. It is called Pages '09. So this is 2013. I imagine any day now they are going to come out with Pages Some-other-year and I'll have an outdated word processor in a month. Is there an update planned? How does one handle this? Would I have to update for another fee? Would my Pages '09 no longer work?
    3. So, after I fork over my money, what is going to happen? How complicated is this? Will I need a password? Can I just press a button and it will install automatically? Or are there multiple steps after purchasing? (Years ago I bought something for my desktop, they told us we didn't have enough memory, we tried to install more memory and ruined the computer. This is why I am so hesitant. Please be patient with my fears.)
    Thank you,
    Karen

Apple has made buying, installing & updating their software about as easy as possible.  Certainly someone in an Apple Store can help you and that may be the most comfortable route for you - but you would need to bring your Mac into the store.  On the other hand, if you purchased AppleCare, you could call them and they will help you on the phone and you won't have to take your Mac into a store.
Regardless of whether you do it on your own or go to an Apple Store, you will purchase Pages, Numbers & Keynote through the Mac App Store (online).  You will need an Apple ID - you may have created one when you started up your Mac the first time after you bought it.  If you created one then, that would be the best Apple ID to use instead of creating another one.
If you don't have an Apple ID, you can create it online when you open the Mac App Store (it's an application on your Mac).   Once you sign in to the store, a few clicks and $60 later you will be able to download & install all three applications.  The Mac App Store app will do this for you.  Later on, when there are updates, the Mac App Store app will indicate there are updates.  A few more clicks and your updates will automatically download & install.

  • Word processing on iPad

I wonder if you can adequately do some word processing on an iPad. If so, how? I did not find anywhere saying that you can download Mellel or Nisus Writer Pro (to me the two most important, the most reliable, the best word processing softwares for Mac) on an iPad. I hear that Pages can be downloaded on an iPad but is it really adequate? And how much is the cost for having a Pages software/application on your iPad? On a normal computer, I feel Pages still lags behind Mellel and Nisus Writer Pro. I also wonder if there is a TextEdit application for iPad! I am thinking of buying an iPad for light uses while in school as I have an iMac at home. Writing on a good word processor is a crucial thing for me. So any thoughts on this would be most appreciated. Ideally I would want the word processing application on the iPad to be easily compatible with those I have on my Apple computers: namely, TextEdit, Mellel, and Nisus Writer Pro.

The iPad is a closed system, you can only download what is in the app store, and neither Mellel or Nisus or MS have made versions of their word processor that could be put in that store.
how much is the cost for having a Pages software/application on your iPad?
$9.99 It is not the full version of Pages, as you might expect.

    No.

How compatible it would be depends on what you need to write. To me it sounds like you might well not be satisfied. See this info on Pages:

  • Word processing on ipad retina?

I just purchased an ipad retina the other day and I realize there's no app for Microsoft word, however I do need to work on my word documents on ipad at times and I'm just wondering if there's any way to synchronize Microsoft office on Mac with word processing apps on ipad?

Have a look at the following (in my order of preference)

  • Word processor for iPad

Is there a software or app that is compatible to Microsoft office?
It sure beats lugging a laptop if ther is one.

I think too that it's important to consider what the term "compatibility" really means...My experience, which honestly is limited to Quick Office Pro, is that it's fine for viewing and doing minor editing of spreadsheets,  Word documents and Power Point stuff...but someone would be pretty disappointed if they bought the app thinking they could easily create complex spreadsheets or do heavy duty editing and creation of other Office document types.  The iPad is oustanding at what it does, but data entry at the level  required for say, complicated spreadsheet or presentation creation is still a challenge.  Saving documents from mail to Quick Office is also a bit clunky.  It's great for opening and looking at documents and doing minor editing, but I think a full blown, heavy duty spreadsheet, presentation and word processing app is a ways off.  It's much much better than having no capability..but it is limited.....

  • Word processing for seniors

    Folks,
I realize this is a Pages forum, but I would appreciate help on a slightly broader topic. My father in law is about 80 and uses Pages to write documents for his family history. He really just needs to write text and insert pictures, with no fancy formatting. Truth is, he somehow gets different fonts, sections, etc. by mistake, and his documents are screwed up like Hogan's goat. I fix them as best I can, but the assignment of text to sections, etc. makes it nearly impossible for a non-Pages expert.
Could anyone recommend a word processing program with minimal functionality, but with the ability to insert photos in line with text? The fewer features he doesn't need, the better for him and me. Any advice is much appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Don

TextEdit might be the answer for him.
Also, the new version of Pages (version 5) is very watered down and that might work too. He would need Mavericks installed to run Pages 5, though.

  • What is best word processing for the iMac?

What is best word processing to use on my imac?

Depends. What word processing are you doing?
Word is probably the most capable, but do you need all that capability? Pages is very good, but not as powerful, as are Nisus Writer and Mellel. But it comes down to the kind of power you need: You writing blog posts? Novels? Doctoral Theses? Letters to your Mummy? Each of these can be done in Word, but if you're only writing notes home then Word is overkill. If you need academic standards - citations, footnotes etc - then Word, Pages, Nisus etc. If you're writing a Novel or long project something like Scrivener or Ulysses 3 are likely better.
So... the best is the one appropriate for the writing you're doing - which is that?

  • Is there any "real" word processor for iPad?

Pages is fine for doing little posters and stuff, but not so good for real WP work. At first I thought I could just use one of the cloud WPs (google docs, Zoho, etc.), but I had some difficulty getting the keyboard to show up in Google docs.
Now I'm wondering if there is any bona fide WP available for the iPad OS? Does not have to be fancy, just good for letter writing and longer texts.
    Thx,

At the moment Pages is the most advanced WP currently available for iPad that can work with doc files. The iPhone version of Quickword is a nice little app but it really doesn't offer more than Pages. I'm betting there will be other decent iPad WPs soon but it doesn't appear to be soon. I haven't heard of any announcements from developers.

  • Is there a newer version of Adobe Publishing Process for iPad Viewer Apps?

The version I have is from October 2011.
    Is there any newer version?
    Thanks.

    At last I found it!
I have the Digital Publishing Suite portal in Spanish and the translation had nothing to do with the title I wanted.
Thanks for guiding me where to look.

  • Can anyone recommend a document word processing App for new ipad?

Can anyone recommend an App for word processing for the new ipad?  I was hoping to be able to use the dictation function to save some time.  Cloudon, evernote...anything better?

There are word processing apps such as Apple's Pages and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice Pro HD.

Update all software on computer, especially itunes.
Try again, but with another usb port, if available.

  • Do I have to buy pages twice..once for laptop and for iPad?

ALSO, Is pages the best word processing for simple documents to be transfered or written on my ipad?
    Thanks

Thank you for such a quick response.  I would still like to hear if there is any better word processing app if anyone knows of one.  Until then - I will go ahead and purchse pages.
Thanks again for clearing it up.  I made a mistake of purchasing another app twice and didn't want to do it again.

  • How to select text and pictures together in word processing mode?

    Hello,
I have written about 20 chapters of a book in word processing mode. Each chapter has many pictures, carefully positioned within the text.
Each chapter is a separate pages file.
Now i want to put them together into one single document and have a big problem.
When i press cmd+A to select everything in one document in order to copy and paste it into another document, i can either select the text OR the pictures, not both together.
In Layout mode it is possible, but not in word processing mode.
Does anybody know how to select both in word processing mode or how to transform a word processing document into a layout mode document?
Or is there a way to put together a word processing document from a number of single documents?
    Thanks in advance
    funthomas

I still use word processing for just about everything. The first two versions of Pages only had word processing. I think all of the complaints/requests about the "always-present" text layer led the developers to add page layout. I think they would have been better off adding another application (like AppleWorks' draw module compared to AppleWorks' word processing module.
