Word processor on Ipad

What is the best word processing app for a college student to use if they are using an ipad?

Hi Ally101594,
I use Office2HD and love it. Can use it for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. And it costs less than Pages.
If you are looking for free, I'd choose Google Drive and download or email the .doc when you submit it to your class.
Hope this helps!

Is there a software or app that is compatible to Microsoft office?
It sure beats lugging a laptop if ther is one.

I think too that it's important to consider what the term "compatibility" really means...My experience, which honestly is limited to Quick Office Pro, is that it's fine for viewing and doing minor editing of spreadsheets,  Word documents and Power Point stuff...but someone would be pretty disappointed if they bought the app thinking they could easily create complex spreadsheets or do heavy duty editing and creation of other Office document types.  The iPad is oustanding at what it does, but data entry at the level  required for say, complicated spreadsheet or presentation creation is still a challenge.  Saving documents from mail to Quick Office is also a bit clunky.  It's great for opening and looking at documents and doing minor editing, but I think a full blown, heavy duty spreadsheet, presentation and word processing app is a ways off.  It's much much better than having no capability..but it is limited.....

  • Is there any "real" word processor for iPad?

Pages is fine for doing little posters and stuff, but not so good for real WP work. At first I thought I could just use one of the cloud WPs (google docs, Zoho, etc.), but I had some difficulty getting the keyboard to show up in Google docs.
Now I'm wondering if there is any bona fide WP available for the iPad OS? Does not have to be fancy, just good for letter writing and longer texts.
    Thx,

At the moment Pages is the most advanced WP currently available for iPad that can work with doc files. The iPhone version of Quickword is a nice little app but it really doesn't offer more than Pages. I'm betting there will be other decent iPad WPs soon but it doesn't appear to be soon. I haven't heard of any announcements from developers.

  • Most full featured word processor? (table editing, google docs) and webdav on the ipad

    Hi All,
So I have had a frustrating time trying to add rows to a table in a word processing document on Google Docs. Are there any word processors that support this? Quickoffice and Documents to Go do not as of this writing. (May 26th, 2011.) at least not that I can determine.
Does Office2HD support this feature? Do any of the word processors?
My current thoughts/what Apple needs to do/
Currently I am thinking about buying Pages and then using Goodreader to open the file in pages, and then saving the pages document to idisk/webdav and then moving it to google docs from idisk/webdav using Goodreader (though it appears you can use Readdledocs too.)
According to the makers of Docsportal, if Pages supported Open With, I could Open With Docsportal and it would be uploaded. Alternatively, Docsportal could simply add idisk or webdav support, but I can understand why they are waiting for Apple to get their act together.
Currently, I have discovered that Quickoffice does support mounting quickoffice as a drive as does goodreader. Docs2Go does not support this feature. This is a nice way to get files in and out. The Mac will support WebDAV for the Mac filesystem as of Lion allowing programs like goodreader or readdledocs to connect to it.
    --Sam

I viewed the Office2HD Help file and it seems to support table creation.
    http://www.bytesquared.com/products/office/ipad/basic.asp?product=office2pro#ins ert_table
I will post back once I am able to edit a table.
Office2HD as mentioned elsewhere in this forum supports Google Docs.
It does also support WebDAV (mounting as an external drive.) The help file mentions that it now allows you to navigate using the cursor or arrow keys.

  • Looking for ipad word processor

I recently purchased an ipad 2 (32G AT&T version) and had a question about word processors. I am looking for a word processor for the ipad that will open, compose and save documents in ODF and all the major Word formats. Something like Bean which I use a lot on my MacBook Pro . I have also used Pages on my MacBook Pro and installed it on my ipad and it is great for some things but will not open ODF docs and will not save in all Word formats. I also installed GoodReader on the ipad which opens almost everything but it seems I cannot compose a document using GoodReader (maybe I have the wrong version--don’t know). I looked at QuickOffice but I have no use for the presentation and spreadsheet apps that come with it and would rather not load the ipad with too many things. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am sorry to tell you. I had done a lot of searches in different search engine, the answer is no. There is not an App support ODF edition for iPad.
I got another news which Google may promot the new Google Document to support ODF in future, even through this is a rumor, but you may keep an eye on it. And you would be able to edit ODF online through Google Document.
    Finger cross.

  • Word processing on iPad

I wonder if you can adequately do some word processing on an iPad. If so, how? I did not find anywhere saying that you can download Mellel or Nisus Writer Pro (to me the two most important, the most reliable, the best word processing softwares for Mac) on an iPad. I hear that Pages can be downloaded on an iPad but is it really adequate? And how much is the cost for having a Pages software/application on your iPad? On a normal computer, I feel Pages still lags behind Mellel and Nisus Writer Pro. I also wonder if there is a TextEdit application for iPad! I am thinking of buying an iPad for light uses while in school as I have an iMac at home. Writing on a good word processor is a crucial thing for me. So any thoughts on this would be most appreciated. Ideally I would want the word processing application on the iPad to be easily compatible with those I have on my Apple computers: namely, TextEdit, Mellel, and Nisus Writer Pro.

I did not find anywhere saying that you can download Mellel or Nisus Writer Pro (to me the two most important, the most reliable, the best word processing softwares for Mac) on an iPad.
The iPad is a closed system, you can only download what is in the app store, and neither Mellel or Nisus or MS have made versions of their word processor that could be put in that store.
how much is the cost for having a Pages software/application on your iPad?
$9.99 It is not the full version of Pages, as you might expect.
I also wonder if there is a TextEdit application for iPad!
    No.

How compatible it would be depends on what you need to write. To me it sounds like you might well not be satisfied. See this info on Pages:

  • Word processing for iPad

have not been able to find an Apple or 3rd party word processing ap for iPad....maybe I am not looking at the right place....can you help.

Other options include Documents To Go, iWrite, and many others. Search the App Store or a compendium site like AppShopper for "word processor" or something similar and you'll find a number of options.
    Regards.

  • How can I open Word doc. on iPad mini?

I'm trying to open up a word document created on my macbook pro on my iPad through mail. I'd rather take my iPad to class then haul my 15 inch macbook
I have tried emailing myself document as an attachment, and opening on my iPad but it won't come up. I attempt to click on the attachment and the option for "mail" pops up and it creates a reply with the attachment in it.
I downloaded Documents and opened through there but my document shows up as blank multiple times. any other suggestions on what I can do, besides emailing myself the plain text not as an attachment? broke college student so I'd rather find a possible free way than purchase Pages

    Hi Garzas93,
I use Office2HD. Its great for creating/viewing/editing Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. You can also connect Office2HD to work with your Dropbox account to sync across multiple devices...really handy to be able to work on a document at my office desk on my Mac, have it saved to my Dropbox folder, and then automatically see it in Office2HD on my iPad. No need to email it back and forth. It costs $7.99 but well worth it in my opinion. I understand the whole broke college thing... but $7.99 isn't much when you consider it'll last you a few years of college.
If you only want free and if you have an internet connection in class, you could use Google Drive and create/edit documents there. It doesn't have as many features as Word but its a free cloud word processor.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • TS1702 I love my various Apple products, but "Pages" word processor: not so much

Just purchased "Pages" because my prior word processor on my new iPad decided to stop sending emails
It worked for a few months, then decided to hate me and do strange things.
I am already having this problem with Pages, after just 5 minutes of buying and downloading it.
I do what it says to do, and nothing happens
I'm working with an Apple desktop to see if it arrives at my email address as I had hoped, but was very saddened to see did not happen.
Do I have to wait several hours before it arrives at its email destination?
Also, all I wanted to do was chage the title of the document
I touch it and nothing happens
It wants to remain being called "blank"
    again
There are no instructions I could find to help with this
I am not particularly computer literate, but don't hate me just because I hate technology.
I use Apple because I like that it rarely causes me problems.
For some reason, the app store is not my friend.
I've also fired off a request for help from Apple directly, but figured I'd sent this out as well, to see what others can tell me.
Besides crapping on me, of course, because I am not a computer-loving-person, and don't understand what others think is easy.
    Cheers,
    Paul

I don't have the Pages app myself, but there is some help for the app here : http://help.apple.com/pages/ipad/1.6.1/
    Emailing a document : http://help.apple.com/pages/ipad/1.6.1/#tan72489eaa
It looks like you should be able to rename a document by tapping its name on the document selection screen - from here :
Tap its name, and then type a new one.
If you want to quickly delete the current name that appears in the field, tap the “x” on the right side.

  • Can I put Microsoft Word on my iPad?

I run Microsoft Word for Mac and wonder if I can either purchase it or transfer it to my iPad? If I cannot use Microsoft Word on my iPad is there another word processing program that is compatible?

I'm curious, would you provide another definition of "computer," because your second sentence is recursive.
His post contained some questionable grammar, as does yours. Such things sometimes go by the boards when you find yourself working on large numbers of submissions.
Assuming your question is more along the lines of, "In which ways is the iPad not a computer?", then the primary difference to me is the absence of any accessible directory structure and an associated file handling system. Add such things as limited I/O options, limited ability to expand or modify the system, severe restrictions on when and how data can be moved around, and so on and so forth. For those reasons, among others, I don't view the iPad as a computer.

  • Can I view Microsoft word on my iPad?

Can I view Microsoft word on my iPad?

You can view Word documents as email attachments on the iPad, but if you want to save and edit Word files you need a compatible app for Word files ..... Pages, Documents to Go, Quick Office Pro and others are available in the app store that you can check out and see which best suits your needs.

  • Can you use microsoft word on an ipad 2 for free and how?

    HI
my family and friends tell me I can do my coursework on the ipad2 and use Microsoft word. Is it true and how do I set it up and download it

You can't use Microsoft Word on the iPad because of the different operating system but you can have a look at the following apps.

  • Pages: Is there a way to make lines independent, like a real word processor

There are so many things that infuriate me about Pages. Save As.. missing, autosave, etc which are NOT like 99% of other apps on the Mac.
    Specifially (today):
I have a letter in Pages. It’s a standard business letter you have see 1m times.
After the first line of the address, at the top of the letter, I insert a carriage return and BINGO, the tabs in the middle of the letter are suddenly all messed up.
    Grrrrrr.
Is there a way to make lines independent in Pages? I have this crazy belief that letters are not Web Pages, not HTML, and that an extra line somewhere should not reformat following lines way down the page.
Alternately, is there some 3rd party word processor that works like the old Apple Works, with graphics and tables you can recommend?
    Thanks

Save As is still there, hold down the option key as you go to the File menu. This is not Pages, it is Mountain Lion.

Then you are doing something wrong, probably pounding away at spaces, tabs and returns to position things. Turn on invisibles to see what is going on:
Menu > View > Show Invisibles
If you have strings of tabs, spaces and returns that is the problem.
Is there a way to make lines independent in Pages?
Yes, hit the return key. Like every other Word Processing program.

Time to learn Pages. AppleWorks is dead. Stop pining for it. This is a case of user error and instead of blaming Pages, it would pay to find out what you have done and stop doing that.
Pages, except for the fancy DTP features, tables and charts works like most other Word Processing apps. Just a case of learning new tricks. My guess is you have other stuff going on.
