Word quitting suddenly

Question

At the most inopportune times, Word inexplicably quits and I lose whatever has been done since my last save. It happens infrequently and I have not been able to discern a pattern. The same thing has happened, though less frequently, with Safari. What might it be? What might I do to keep it from happening? Thanks.

If you use either of these MS products Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.0 Update ❖ Microsoft Office v. X for Mac 10.1.8 Update make sure you have these, the latest updates applied.

Quit Safari first:
Click on the Finder Icon in the Dock, go to your user name Home follow
these paths, find & move the following files to the trash.
~/Library/Preferences folder/com.apple.Safari.plist
If this doesn't help move the following files, again QUIT Safri first...
~/Library/Safari Folder/Icons folder* Do NOT move the Bookmarks. plist file you will lose all your bookmarks!
~/Library/Cookies folder/cookies.plist
~/Library/Caches/Safari cache folder
If that doesn't help w/ Safari.
Try Safari in a test or other user account, if you do not have another account please create a test account.
Under the Blue Apple ->System Preferences /Accounts/ Login Options,
use the [+] to create one, for ease you could enter test in all the fields.
Log Out from your user name account & log in to the Test account that you created.
This helps helps to determine if this is a system wide issue or isolated to your user name account.
Does the problem still show up in the "Test' account?
