Word to Frame hyperlick wierdness

I just spent a day fixing a problem that shouldn't have happened.
I have a project glossary that was created in Microsoft Word 2007. It consists of definitions for acrnyms and a list of terms which are linked to their definitions in our departmental wiki glossary. The lnking is straightforward HTML to a named anchor in the wiki.
For reasons that aren't important here, we decided tht we needed to convert the glossary from Word 2007 format to FrameMaker (I'm using FM10). I first tried the conversion by File > Import and selecting the Word document format as input source. It didn't work. Links were formatted as hyperlinks (blue underlined text) but none of the links actually worked. Looking at the file, it appeared to have created empty hyperlink markers for each link.
I then tried the conversion using the RTF 1.6 format. This appeared to be more successful - most (but not all) of the terms appeared to having working hyperlinks. However, on checking I found the NONE of the hyperlinks pointed to their intended target. Basically the conversion had inserted hyperlink markers in some more or less random order.  As well, markers were inserted in words that weren't hyperlinked.
I ended up using IXGEN's (incredibly useful) expand markers feature to view the markers, and manaully copied and pasted them to where they should have been. I'm just glad there were only about a hundred terms instead of a thousand.
Adobe really needs to put more effort into FrameMaker's import filters. A job that should have taken an hour or two at most ended up taking a day.
Regards
Keith

I don't know if this is any help for the future, but for converting a
Word document to FM, Adobe recommends using File> Open, rather than
File> Import. In other words, open the Word document directly as a new
document. FrameMaker reads it right in, though I have no experience with
how well it handles Word hyperlinks.

  • PDF to Word = Floating frame boxes

    Hello,
    I have converted some pdf files to word files in Acrobat 8.x.
    The resulting Word document (2007 *.docx) seems to be made up of series of floating boxes/frames of each individual line or paragraph over the Word page. Is there a way of inserting or  embedding them so that they would be like a regular Word document, as considerable editing is required of this document.
    Alternately how can they be coverted as to eliminated this needed next step.
    Thanks
    PDF to Word => Floating frame boxes

    The boxes/frames are Word's means of providing some semblance of layout.
    The source PDF was not a well formed Tagged PDF.
    When a source file is mastered with a consistent logical hierarchy that uses built-in headings and styles, each of which is providing desired white space above/below lines and paragraphs and the authoring application has an adequate tag management mechanism for support of Tagged output PDF you have that "well formed tagged PDF".
    One of Tagged PDF's facilities is to support migrating the Tagged PDF's content, layout, and format to other, supported file formats with the consequence of little to no post-migration "clean up".
    Unfortuately, the PDF you converted to Word was not a well formed tagged PDF.
    While you could use Acrobat Pro to tag an untagged PDF that often gets you a basic, rough tagged PDF if the content is other than simple.
    Continued manual editing of the resultant structure tree can, in time, yield  the well formed tagged PDF.
    Or, after having Acrobat Pro add tags & then saving - give the export to Word another try to see what you get.
    It may be enough to escape the "boxes/frames" scenario.
    Trying to do anything with content in those boxes/frames in Word is ...well a really fustrating endeavor.
    Lot of pain &, ultimately, no gain trying to cut-paste-assemble into something useful for the 'real' editing.
    If working on the PDF to develop a basically adequate structure tree is not an option consider a Save As of the PDF to a text file.
    Then bringing that into Word.
    Use the desired Word template's Headings and Styles to establish format and layout.
    Then have a go with grammar and spell check.
    Be well...

  • Word to Frame - Help Getting Started

    Hello,
    I am working at a place where all the authors write their documents in MS Word - 2007/2010 and I am using FrameMaker 8.
    I've read the Converting Between Word and Frame document that is on the Web, but I wondering about alternative solutions. Specifically, I want to have the writers use a Word Template that I create. The Word template would be built so that when I open the document in FrameMaker there would be little editing required. I generally don't have to worry about the TOC or index because the writers don't create those.
    That is one  idea. I'm just not sure what I need to do or consider when I start creating the template (styles, style names, etc...)
    The other idea I have is to create a Macro that will format the Word document to the way I need it to be. Again, any suggestions on what styles, style names, etc... I need would be helpful.
    Any suggestions about either of the above ideas would be greatly appreciated. Other suggestions would also be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Michael Randall

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for responding. Any ideas that help me move the process forward or decide not to are definitely welcome. I've listed my responses below your questions.
    * Will you be the sole or main collector, reconciler, regular, style administrator, etc for the sets of documents? Have you been performing this role already? What have you found to be the most difficult aspects of working in this role?
    I am the sole collector and style administrator. I am in charge of anything documentation. I have worked as a technical writer for about 5 years and I have (I think) pretty solid experience with FrameMaker and Word.
    * Are the Word authors currently skilled enough, and disciplined enough, to produce consistently-formatted documents by adhering to the clear style guide they're expected to follow? If not, will they ever?
    The authors are skilled enough and disciplined enough to produce consistently-formatted documents that adhere to a style guide.
    * Are the Word authors using customized macros and plug-ins to enhance how they work in Word? Would they expect to find similar tools in FrameMaker? What if there are no such counterparts?
    I don't think that the authors are using customized macros or plug-ins.
    * Is there a compelling reason to move to FrameMaker? Are there any FrameMaker features or abilities, or any Word shortcomings, that are driving the decision?
    We already have FrameMaker. The decision to use FrameMaker was made before I arrived. I'm not sure of the initial reason for moving to FrameMaker although I have a suspicion that Word was unable to handle our larger documents. We do have a few documents that are published in Word and when saving as PDF we encounter a few problems, i.e., missing graphics. If I open Adobe Acrobat and generate a PDF from the Word file, it works.
    * Have you been working with FrameMaker already? Have you been doing trial conversions? Are you finding absolutely compelling reasons to migrate, or significant show-stoppers?
    I have worked with FrameMaker for approximately 5 years. I have been experimenting with trial conversions. I have created a small Word document and set up styles in Word that that match (name and styles) the Frame name and styles. I'm able to open the Word document in FrameMaker and the styles look similar. However, Words default style names also show up in the FrameMaker paragraph catalog. I will need to do more experimenting.
    I haven't tested bullets, numbers, tables, or graphics yet., but this solution looks somewhat promising.
    * Do you expect to "round trip" documents between FrameMaker and Word, and back again?
    I don't expect to "round trip" the documents. I'm thinking Word to FrameMaker will be the standard. I suppose if I get real ambitious I could try to figure out how to implement some kind of structured/xml solution so that i could reuse content in other areas.
    IMO, your answers to these questions should give you an idea of what you need to do.

  • Creating PDF forms in Frame (switch from  Word?)

    Here's another "can I switch from Word" question. I am an old (5.5) Frame ACE now in a new job where we use Word. Frame would be a much better choice in many ways, for many reasons.
    I could use some help figuring out whether Frame creates forms that convert easily to PDF. As an end product, what we need is a PDF form with a large number of fixed-length text fields; users must be able to download the form and fill it in at their leisure, either all at once or in stages, saving their work as they go.
    These files are currently constructed in Word out of tables. They are a terrible mess and must be recreated from scratch. If Frame handles forms well, we can start that work fresh in Frame and dump Word completely. (This is a question I could answer for myself in a few minutes if I could download a trial. Bad timing.)
    Can somebody with a current copy of Frame tell me how it handles forms and whether it's possible to use Frame to create PDF forms with plenty of fixed-length text fields, some of them quite long?
    Your help is much appreciated. Thank you!
    V. B. Beck

    Thank you, Sheila.
    Users are most likely to simply have Adobe Reader.
    Sorry to be asking for so much help--it is rather maddening not to be able to download the trial and take a quick look for myself.
    Are form fields defined directly within Frame, or is it necessary to hack the PDF? If within Frame, how is length of input defined--by number of characters? Or, as with LiveCycle Designer, can you "limit length to visible area"?
    Thanks as always and in advance for the help.

  • Exporting to word from crystal without frames

    good afternoon, I have problems with the export from a word crystal, because everything is generated on me frameworks. pc sell any component or provide some advice for me to export a word without frames?.

    Ludek good morning, thanks for addressing my request.
    It turns out that I worked with Visual Studio. NET 2003 and use a component called CrystalReportViewer.
    When exporting to Microsoft Office Word, all I was generated in frames or text boxes, I want to pass the text into Microsoft Word without putting the content in text boxes or frames.
    This is the code I'm using
    MemoryStream oStream=new MemoryStream ();
    oStream = (MemoryStream)oRpt.ExportToStream(CrystalDecisions.Shared.ExportFormatType.WordForWindows);
    Response.Clear();
    Response.Buffer= true;
    Response.ContentType = "application/msword";
    Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" + NombreActa + ".doc");
    Response.BinaryWrite(oStream.ToArray());
    Response.End();

  • How to contain all windows in Application Frame cs5 MAC

    Hello,
    This is my last resort to hopefully find a solotion to my problem.
    Ive recently switched from PC to MAC, and since the switch I have had some trouble with photoshop (apparently its not the same?)
    Now please bear with mem I have trouble explaining this properly hehe
    Okay...
    When I have two photos open in cs5 in tabs, If i drag one out of the tab and then click on the photo still tabbed the one that isnt tabbed disappears! Its floating in behind photoshop over my desktop. If I minimize photoshop, I can see the file floating there?
    Is there any way to keep all files (windows) contained within the application frame itself, so they no longer "float" behind the photoshop application frame??
    I hope this makes enough sense!
    I never had trouble with windows floating outside of photoshop when I was using PC...

    Hi,
    Do you have the application frame in photoshop cs5 turned on or off?
    Window>Appliction Frame
    A check mark beside the word application frame means it's on.

  • Page/chapter numbering probs in material converted from Word

    Situation: Need to convert ~300 pages (multiple files) of Word into structured Frame. I'm not very familiar with structured Frame (but am working on this), and am a long-time user of nonstructured. Moving Word 2007 files into Frame9 (in TCS2).
    Problem: Chapter/page numbering. No matter what I try, including copies of a file that demonstrably works, one copy does not accept the "Continued" settings for page numbering. It resets the TOC to page 1. Copies of that file added to the TOC also reliably reset page numbering to 1. When I go in to see what's going on I find that the Numbering dialog for each problem file shows it mysteriously reset to start page numbering at 1. (These copies are nearly identical, differing only in a numeral in one heading to remind me what chapter each is file supposed to be.)
    Further, when I added an autonumbered ChapterTitle paragraph at the top of each file to test chapter numbering, the page numbering problem resolved itself (!) but the chapters don't increment as expected. Numbering string: "C:Chapter <n=1>" for Chpt1 and "C:Chapter <n+>" for the rest of them.
    Test setup: Saw this in production files and stepped back to use a simple Word source file as a test. Constructed several Normal paragraphs, a bulleted list, and a numbered list, and two heading levels (Heading1, Heading2) in this file. Saved; closed. Opened the file in Frame (Structured). Created several nearly identical copies and added all to a book file. Added a TOC to the book. Set the numbering: Chpt1 starts Chapter and Page at 1 and all others are set to "Continued" in both categories.
    Added the ChapterTitle paragraph to each file after conversion.
    In one experiment I applied several of the "target" Frame paragraph formats. Target formats were supplied by writer who works primarily in a  structured Frame setup that is similar to the one planned for the  converted material. In one file all paragraphs were set to their Frame equivalents. In others there was a mix of original (as brought over from Word) and Frame formats. Made no apparent difference.
    Questions: Is this something about structured vs. unstructured? About  structured Frame WRT conversion from Word? Either way, has anyone else  seen (more to the point, *resolved*) similar?
    Thanks in advance for any insight!
    Anne

    OK--
    WRT "<$chapnum>": check, thanks for the reminder. (Yes, I agree that chapter/page numbering tabs are different items.) :-)
    To clarify: yes, the idea is a Word > Frame conversion. The process stumbled upon so far starts with opening Word files in unstructured Frame. (I'd never done it, either---never had a need to try. Somebody new to Frame asked if it was possible, so we experimented and voila!) I have recommended dropping files into .mif and then resaving as .fm in order to lose any artifactual Word stuff.
    Step 2 is applying appropriate Frame paragraph styles from a supplied list, and creating book files. (The page numbering issue resolved once I added a ChapterHead paragraph.  Using the <$chapnum> tag handles the remaining chapter number  issue.)
    In theory Step 3 will be the move into handling the fully-converted material as structured Frame documents. The key point, though, appears to be the conversion table. I get this from a WritersUSA article by Alan Houser at http://www.writersua.com/articles/frame/index.html:
    FrameMaker provides a mechanism called a conversion table to automate  much of the task of legacy document conversion. The conversion table  maps unstructured FrameMaker paragraph and character formats to  elements, and allows you to automatically nest groups of elements. If  your legacy documents were created using a style-based authoring tool  (typically FrameMaker or Word [!]) and your authors have used those styles  consistently, you may be able to automate 80%-90% of the conversion  process. If your legacy documents include a significant amount of manual  or ad-hoc formatting, the conversion will be substantially more  tedious.
    Looks like my group will have to create this.
    Thanks, all, for the help. :-)

  • Advance frame-by-frame on a streaming video

    Hi,
    i've recently installed Wowza media server 2 locally, currently only for testing purposes.
    everything works fine, except of accurate seeking functionality - or in other words advancing frame-by-frame .
    when i use VLC to play my video file i have no problems advancing frame-by-frame.  however, when i use the 'seek()' function to move the playhead a fraction of a second, its seems to move only to the next key frame (meaning that only once every few mouse clicks the playhead advances dramatically).
    i thought that when using streaming video (unlike progressive download) this issue is resolved.  am i wrong?  did i miss something?
    thanks in advance,
    eRez

    II think you should post your query on Wowza forums - because this forum is for Flash Media Server and probably not best place where you can find Wowza server experts.

  • How can a structured frame be used for translating books to foreign languages?

    I keep reading about how a structured approach can improve the translation process (from english to foreign languages), however, i can't seem to find specifics about a particular method or tutorials about how to go about it (specifically). My question is, how (specifically) can structured framemaker be used for translation from english to foreign languages?  Links to tutorials on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    @Ian Proudfood
    A well organized XML based project will definitely save translation costs. There are many advantages to the XML approach to translation management including:
    Almost zero DTP rework costs - make the EDD/Template do all of the work!
    Translation is application version independent - no need to wait for the Translation Memory/CMS system vendor to support the latest version of FrameMaker.
    »... a well organized XML based project will definitively save translation costs.« – I have read sentences like this from a lot of consultants. And I have consulted/supported a lot of customers after those consultants left the stage. I always hear more or less the same from all of those clients. No question, I hear a lot of arguments for working with XML in tech doc, most of the arguments you mention included. Most of the tech writers are happy with the new structured FrameMaker and enjoy writing. And, cross your heart: Finally there's no alternative to XML in the long term if you take your tech writer job seriously. No question – working with pure XML in a professional information architecture in a structured, guiding editing environment like FrameMaker is cool, fun, faster and produces more open, more accessible, more reusable, more reliable, more consistent, in a nutshell: more valuable data.
    But what I have never ever heard, and I'm talking about several hundred companies, is: We save more money on translation now. You might imagine that this is surprising me since many years. This is why I always ask: Did you save any costs in your translation projects? Surprisingly the answer is always: No. Actually some – no, wait: many – tell me, that their translation agency even charges more now, because they have a lot of new costs:
    Costs, to customize their translation memory system to the clients custom xml,
    costs to follow badly or not documented changes in the client's xml structure (DTD/Schema changes) in the TMS,
    costs because of more engineering work like
    valididating xml in advance,
    fixing invalid xml exports,
    fixing invalid translations due to – sometimes massively – increased amount of tag errors because of tagging differences of "old" (legacy mif) and "new" (xml) tags,
    dealing with just too big XML files that need to be carefully split, so that the TMS has a chance to read it, or alternatively:
    "glue" the ten-thousand xml "snippets" to more handy chunks,
    project managers and translators that need to do additional checks, validations, verifyings - and often not knowing what to do with those cryptic error messages, meaning additional support costs
    Of course, many if no all of these and many other problems I did not mention here can be solved. And many are not exactly system immanent problems but communication problems (like introducing or renaming elements/attributes but not documenting this and not communicating this to the translation service provider) or would apply to any system change (e.g. also when switching from Word to Frame). However, I do not know of any single translation company on this planet (and I know virtually thousands of them from countries all over the world) that reduced the price per word for just a single pence, just because the client switched over from Word/Quark/FrameMaker/InDesign/Whatever to XML.
    Just ask your translation service provider: Will you charge me less per word if I send you XML instead of MIF? I would really be surprised to hear a "yes". And frankly, if you have ever compared a professional FrameMaker document with the same document in xml format in a professional system like Trados: There is actually no difference that would justify any price difference. The text is the same, the amount of words identical, the number of tags is identical, it even looks identical in the translation system (I can post screenshots if you like). From the translation perspective there is no single reason why a translator should charge a single pence less.
    So, it's a modern myth, that switching to xml reduces translation costs. That might be true, if you come from a really medieval documentation szenario with MS Word or the like, with manual formatting without any styles and so on (I see tech docs every day where even the TOC is typed in manually!!!) and swith from there to a modern structured xml authoring in combination with other supporting tools like authoring memory / authoring assistance, controlled language, translation memory and terminology managent and control, snippet based content management and so on. That will increase the consistency and quality of your data, which will reduce translation costs in the long term. But the truth is: This has nothing to do with XML per se, but with professional writing and professional management.
    So, what's left in the money saving story? No more DTP in the target languages? I always hear, that with XML and FrameMaker you do not have to "format" the translated document. The truth is: If you have a professionally formatted (unstructured) document, you don't have to take care of it, too. Modern tools like Trados keep 100% of the formatting 100% correct in the translated document. If the underlying template is intelligent enough to take account of text amount changes due to longer translations, and if you don't have too many local formatting overrides, the DTP is actually zero and can be reduced to a few mintes/hours for "flying" of the document to check out for unexpeted problems wich can occure in both structured and unstructured documents.
    Just to give some numbers on this: We are processing every day technical documentations for a quite big company. A typical documentation from them is about 250 pages in unstructured FrameMaker 9 (source language is English). Until now they were resistent to all my XML pushing. The Documentation is based on a straight, simple template (with our help "reduced to the max") and there are no formatting overrides (a script automatically checks this). The post translation Quality Assurance effort is - depending on the target language - usually something between 1 to 4 hours – that's a few seconds per page for the languages where already a lot of past Quality Assurance Steps went back into the Translation Memories and up to a minute per page for more "problematic" languages).
    So, again: XML will not save you a single pence on translations. But it might help you to produce more open, more accessible, more reusable, more reliable, more consistent, in a nutshell: more valuable data. But if you already have properly set up (ustructured) FrameMaker Documents and already work with a professional translation memory system, you will be quite disappointed to learn, that the impressive money saving promises you recently saw on that great PowerPoint slides melt down to a few bucks over a couple of years.
    Kind regards,
    Stefan Gentz

  • Frame Random Shuffle without repeating

    Hi,
    Am beginning an eLearning project (I'm a retired social worker aiming in this lesson to help others) which includes building in AS3 an exercise called the GNAT (Go No/Go Association Task). The GNAT is a test tool that measures people's subconscious attiudes by having them choose (or not choose) by  pressing/touching the spacebar (in this lesson) when they see a specific target word.
    For the first part of the GNAT, a practice exercise: 16 target words (presented one each in its own frame), taken randomly with no repeats from a list or array of 18 words. Frame needs to time out in 1000 ms. If the person reacts by pressing/touching the spacebar when they see a word, it is either scored +1 (depends on the word) or nothing. If pressed, an X or 0 displays for 100 ms (wrong or correct, depending on the word) and then goes immediately to the next random (no repeat) frame and word. If not pressed the timer timeout at 1000 ms goes to the next random (no repeat) frame.
    Whew! For my relatively modest AS3 skills, not sure how to set up a model for this and implement in script. Could also be one dynamic text box in a single frame instead of multiple frames, with the text (target word) changing. But still would need a timer to advance and if pressed, an over-ride of the timer to advance, plus scoring.
    If I can get a basic model working, then I can try to build the main test exercise tool which has 9 target words but these are recycled randomly in a 3:6:3 ratio totaling 70.
    Major challenge!!!
    I've tried various random no repeats using frames but can't get the most basic version to work.
    I would appreciate any help getting started. How best to set this up and begin?
    Regards,
    saratogacoach

    Using frames is not likely to be relevant to what you seem to want to do.  One frame, one textfield, and code is all you should need.
    Just create the array, shuffle it, and pick the first 16 or whatever words in the shuffled array, one at a time as you advance thru the exercise.  If you want a function to shuffle the array you can find the same one often offered in this forum, such as here...
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1058786?tstart=0
    If you need help with setting up a Timer, you should not have a problem searching Google for a tutorial (use "AS3 Timer tutorial")

  • Displaying the value of an variable on the stage

    I have managed to display the values contained in string variables on stage, and I am happy with that, however when I wish to display the value of an int and convert it to a string as one is supposed to do the output to the stage just calls it [class int] and does not give its value. any suggestions?
    My rogram contains a stage at frame 1 which displays a word. The user must input a word. Frame 30 then displays the word which was displayed and the word input by the user. That all works fine. But the value of the variable NumberRight, which has been assigned to that variable will only display as [class int] without showing its value. (even though I have converet it to a string using the .to string function you see below).
    My code is as follows;
    trace( "The number correct was" + NumberRight); //This works fine in the output window and shows the value of the variable as NumberRight [class int]1 (showing the value to be 1)
    outputText.appendText("in/"+textAtIN); //this works fine displaying the word presented and word input by user as in/in
    outputText.appendText( NumberRight.toString(     )); //here lies the problem as it just displays [class int] and nothing else.
    Yes I have managed to overcome that problem it was some code on the first frame, please excuse, however, now, is there any way to remove the [class int] bit from the displays, I wish to have the results as a clear copy of the results so that they can be printed out, without [class int] all over the place?

    Hi Ned thanks for that. Yes I had accidently created blank spaces in the String() argument. (wanted to check if there was a subsequent difference in display and forgot to return them to normal ...Sorted )
    Your next suggestion has eliminated the [class int] but I get a value now of 0.
    My code on the first frame for a correct response for example is;
    function keyPressedIN(event:KeyboardEvent):void
              if (event.keyCode == 13)/*Normally,this will move straight on to the next frame-
              recording a correct response and all that that implies in terms of scores etc. But now I have re directed it to Frame 30 to check are the variables working properly*/
                        //insert code for correct responses vowels etc.
                        VowelI = VowelI+1;
                        NumberRight = NumberRight +1;
                        stage.focus = stage;
                        //There is no need to display the text box as this is a correct response.
                        pupilsResponseIN.visible = false;
                        mainText.visible = false;
                        gotoAndPlay(30);//at the moment this takes me to the display frame to check if all is ok
    On the first frame when the user say hits the Return key my code assigns the value of +1 to the variable; eg
    NumberRight=NumberRight+1;
    and the value of +1 to the value of VowelI
    VowelI=VowelI+1
    At Frame 30 the code is as follows;
    stop();
    trace( "The number correct was"+ NumberRight);
    outputText.appendText("in/"+textAtIN);
    outputText.appendText( "\n");
    outputText.appendText("Vowels Correct ="+(int(VowelI).toString()));
    outputText.appendText( "\n");
    outputText.appendText("TotalCorrect="+(int(NumberRight).toString()));
    //outputText.appendText( VowelI.toString());
    Now what I am getting  is
    in/in
    Vowels Correct = O
    Total Correct = O
    Yet the trace (output box) records the Number correct as [class int]1
    many years ago I wrote this same program in Authorware using similar code. I am trying to re write it in FlashCS5 using ActionScript 3 and It take days to solve small problems. I notice also that If for example the user of the program makes an error and I record the error as NumberRight =NumberRight -1 the program records it as Total Correct = NaN .
    I gave up on this a few months back but I am trying again. I think there must be a better way to do this. Variables do not seem to add up or subtract for me at present. no doubt its me thats got it wrong.

    I've been working on this one issue two days and am at a complete loss.

    Any thoughts on why my button now won't open in the same window? I'm getting a sense the built in code snippets don't work as they should, or I'm just making silly mistakes. Here's the code:
    btnSkip1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_MouseClickHandler);
    function fl_MouseClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
              // Start your custom code
              // This example code displays the words "Mouse clicked" in the Output panel.
    navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.student.nvcc.edu/home/amlayne/ite170/dreamweaver/graded_assignments/index.html"), "_self")
              // End your custom code

  • Pink "shadows" and "color noise" or "apparent interference"

    I have a screen now that has pinkiness shadowing the words and frames on my screen.. it's the same if I'm in appleworks or anywhere else. This is the best I can do to describe it It's getting worse as I speak.
    I have calibrated the colors and check in universal access but to no avail.
    3 months ago something similar happened but worse. I didn't use the computer for 4 days (switched off and on battery power only). when I started up it was fine and has been ok until today.
    Please don't tell me my beloved Mac screen is terminally ill.
    Can anyone give me some good news about this?
    Many thanks

  • Automating hyperlink creation

    Hi all,
    I'm a Frame AND scripting noob. I'm migrating several long docs from Word to Frame 10. I'd like to figure out how to automagically ID and add hyperlinks to URLs written in plain text after conversion. This sounds like a job for ExtendScript.
    My mental model looks like this:
    1. Wildcard search for "www.*" or similar;
    2. Copy url text;
    3. Open HYPERTEXT toolbar in Frame UI;
    4. Set 'Command:' to 'Go to URL';
    5. Paste 'http://' and copied URL text into box;
    Pretty simple non paper, but is this feasible using JScript or EScript? Thanks in advance!

    Mugg,
    You have to change your mental model from being too close to the UI. It would work like this:
    1. Wildcard search for "www.*" or similar; or: use the current selection
    2. Copy url text; no need to use the clipboard, just store it in a variable
    3. insert a marker of type "Hypertext" at the start of the text range
    4. set marker text to "message URL http://" + stored website.
    5. apply a  character format to the text range from marker until end of found/selected text.
    The last step limits the "hot" area to that range.
    Now, go ahead!
