Word to pdf losing page numbers

When saving a word doc with different page layouts as a pdf, not only do I get multiple pdfs, which I can deal with, but the landscape pages lose their page numbers in the pdf. Anyone have a clue? Mac 2011 Word, OS X 10.6.8

  • Word to PDF - custom page size isn't being retained

I'm having a problem converting a Microsoft Word docx to a PDF and retaining the proper custom document size. In Word (for Mac) the size in Page Setup is 5.25x8. But when I save it as a PDF, the PDF document properties say it is 8.5x11. Any suggestions?

Open up the printer properties (I assume it is similar on a MAC to a PC) and set the page size there. Acrobat does not necessarily use the page size you have set in your document. It is kind of like printing your document to a printer with letter paper in the paper hopper rather than your custom stock.

  • Page numbers are not generated correctly when print from Word to PDF

Whenever I print my Word document to PDF, my page numbers do not reflect the page numbers shown in Print Preview.
For example, I have a Word document with 10 pages and after generating it as PDF, the page number shows Page 1 of 1; Page 2 of 2; Page 3 of 3; ......Page 10 of 10.
Please advise what may be the cause and how can I rectify this problem?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your reply.
I do have some sections breaks on the pages, however the pages are all shown in running sequence even on Preview page.
It is the final generated document that has this problem.
I emailed my colleagues my WORD document and ask them to generate to PDF and they have no issues printing the WORD to PDF and every pages were in running order.
    Any other advise?

  • When I convert a Word doc to PDF, some of the page numbers are missing.

I'm using Word 2003 and Acrobat Pro 7.0. When I print out the Word doc all the page numbers are there, but when I concert to PDF most of them are missing. Any suggestions?

How are you converting? What are the job settings for the PDF conversion? What if you print to the Adobe PDF printer?

  • Page numbers not showing up in PDF export

I have an InDesign document with page numbers placed on all master pages. The page numbers show up just fine in InDesign, but when I export the document as a PDF the page numbers don't show up at all in the PDF. Any idea why this is happening?

Nevermind. I had the guides turned off and had placed the number text frame outside of the margin. Silly.

  • Missing page numbers while generating PDF from Framemaker book

FrameMaker 9 book files have the correct master page applied and page numbers appear right. However, when generating PDF, the page numbers including the footer is missing.
I created another book file, yet same issue occurs.
Also, tried generating separate PDF for each chapter, same issue occurs.
I have installed Univers font from ATM, I'm using WIndows XP. The Footer tags are in Univers font. Could that be the reason?
    Please advise.

We have seen a similar problem when the page# was at the right edge of the header or footer frame, and the tab that put it there was too far to the right.
This is an old problem. It comes from setting tab stop positions in paragraph formats with the cursor in the text frame on the TOC reference page. Nothing wrong with this, EXCEPT when the master page text frame has been made narrower than the reference page's text frame. One way to avoid the problem or to fix it, is to set tab stops in a paragraph in the body page text frame, so the width is correct. Another way is to set the tab stops accurately by number, rather than by eye. Visually, the reference page tab stop will look correct, but the generated TOC uses the master page text frame - if it's narrower than the reference frame, this problem occurs.
I seem to remember that this might have been fixed in more recent FM releases, but I think that's a false recovered memory, because this is not a bug, just a discrepancy in measurement. There's no way to expect that the prototype paragraph format on the TOC reference page can know if a tab stop will be out-of-bounds on the generated TOC page.

  • How to preserve custom page numbers when combining PDF's?

When combining multiple PDF's into one, the custom page numbers are lost.
Example: As four separate files (one page each), the pages are numbered as follows:  AC-77, AC-78, AC-79, AC-80.  When combining them into a single PDF, the page numbers become 1, 2, 3, 4.
How can I preserve the original page numbers?

What is ' custom page numbers' ? How did you create the page numbers?

Yes. I do it using Adobe Reader for PDF files, Pages for Word files, I can copy from Safari or iCab Mobile and paste into another app. I use my finger even though I do have a stylus. I rarely use my stylus anymore, but yes it's possible.

  • Page numbers display as 5 of 1 and 2 of 2121 in a PDF that was created from a Word 2003 document

We merge several Word 2003 documents into 1 larger document that we then convert to PDF.  The page numbers in the Word document display properly - 1 of 21, 2 of 21, 3 of 21, etc.  We then convert that merged document to PDF by right-clicking the filename and choosing "Convert to Adobe PDF".  For those of us with Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.1.3, the page numbers in the converted PDF file display as 1 of 1, 2 of 1, ... 21 of 1.  Those with Acrobat Professional 8.1.3, they display as 1 of 21, 2 of 2121, 3 of 212121, etc., each page adding another total number of pages to the total.  There is no change in the result if using v8.0.0 or 8.1.4  Does anyone have any ideas???

Unless you have a specific reason to upgrade to OFFICE 2007, I would not recommend it. I hate it -- have it on two computers. I have had problems creating PDFs reliably from WORD 2007 and PPT 2007, at least with graphics. The conversion seems to want to split graphics up into several parts rather than leave it as one. It does not happen with WORD 2003 and so assume this is some sort of issue with OFFICE 2007. You can get the graphics fine if you use the MS plugin for PDF creation, but then you have to deal with the MS version of a PDF. If you want to try it on one computer in your office, I would do that before you make the change. However, if what you have meets the need, then why change unless there are specific items that you are looking for and don't have.
OK, that is my opinion. I am sure there are counter arguments. If I had the preference on my newer machines, I would have OFFICE 2003. Bill

  • Word 2003 to PDF Not Exporting Page Numbers, Other Data

I'm having a weird problem with converting Word 2003 docs to PDF. After the conversion, my PDF does not display page numbers. It shows them as {PAGE}, like the formula or macro for page numbering is not working. I've seen a similar problem with inserted dates. They show up as {DATE}. I'm using Acrobat 9 and have tried both the Adobe PDF>Convert ot PDF menu and printing to Adobe PDF. Both have the same results. HELP!

This is very generaic issue that chang the flow of document while converting MS Doc to PDF. After googing and testing different software I found a PDF Converter, that converts 100% fine copy of Doc to PDF. Watch the below tutorial to know how it works.
It is also featured on CNET free downloads here.

  • Why isn't my portrait page numbering showing up on landscape pages after creating PDF from Word?

I have a lengthy Word document that has portrait and landscape oriented sections. The landscape sections have page numbering set up so that on screen it appears on the left, but in the printed book will have the page numbers in the same place as the portrait pages. For some reason when I create a PDF using the Adobe tab in Word and embed the fonts though, the portrait page numbers on my landscape pages do not show up. Does anyone know if there's a box or something I'm not checking?
I'm using Microsoft 2010. Let me know if any other details are needed!

    Hi Liz,
Can you share the file with me at [email protected] so that I can have a look.

  • Word to PDF - Page Numbering Problems

When I use the combine files tool in Acrobat 8 for PDFing word documents instead of the page numbering being 1/3, 2/3, 3/3, it comes out as 1/1, 2/2, 3/3. I've tried looking at all the settings and cant find a logical reason for this. It also happens when I print to PDF while in Word.
Has anyone else experienced this same problem?

Here are a couple links that should help.

  • Page numbers disappear in final pdf from *placed* InDesign pages

    Hi,
Because of restrictions in export to booklet, I have imposed an indesign document by placing each page from one InDesign document into another (the publication is 8.5 x 11 landscape – the script provided within won't impose this). I then export that secondary Indesign file to pdf so that I can send it off to a digital copier to be printed, however, the page numbers don't print. All other master page items print, except the page numbers.
Anybody have a cure for this? (apart from collecting the two InDesign docs and shipping those off).
    Thanks.
    Mindy

    Hi Peter,
"Script" used to be! The booklet maker that's built into InDesign, I suppose plug-in is a better choice of word.
Exporting to pdf is a good idea. I guess in my mind, I was wary of making a pdf out of pdf and potentially balling up the postscript in the rip. I'm not sure why placing an indesign file within an indesign file felt a better solution to me. The other thing that I thought of (just after I posted of course) was releasing the master page items, so that the page numbers were "official".
I'm going to export to pdf as you suggest. Seems the simplest solution. Thank you.

  • RoboHELP to PDF Page numbering issue

    HI,
I am experiencing a problem related to page numbers in the pdf generated through the RoboHELP source files. Hereby I am giving some images of the initial pages of the PDF, in which I have clearly explained the issue. I have removed the content and images related to our project. Please let me know, how I can overcome this issue.
NOTE: The page numbering issue was not there earlier.  I have imported two frame maker files. Then I was not able to generate a PDF. That particular FM file had a table. Read in the Adobe forum that some type of tables may affect the generation of PDF. Hence, I have deleted the FM files. Since then I am facing the page numbering issue.
Here are the images with my explanation of the issue:
The following is an image of the pdf. This is actually the fourth page of the pdf, but it is numbered as xiv.
The next pae is numbered as xv. Again the numbering reverted back to xiv as shown in the following iamge.
Immeditely after the TOC, the 1st page is numbered as 115.
Again every 1st page of a chapter is starting as page number 115
The 2nd page of every chapter is numbered as 126.
The 3rd page of every chapter is numbered as 125.
The fourth page again numbered as 126 followed by 125, which is continuing till end of the chapter.
Please let me know how this issue can be solved.

I am not sure what is causing this but can suggest a workaround. Instead of publishing direct to PDF, create a Word document only. That may have page numbering issues but there you should be able to correct them. Then publish your PDF from Word.

  • Can you add page numbers to the PDF version?

Can you add page numbers to the PDF version?

    Hello saradianapasik,
If you start with a document created with Acrobat Pro, or exported from your word processor as a .pdf, then you should include page numbers in that originating application. After you have exported a .pdf form from FormsCentral, it is no longer editable.
    I hope that helps,
    Brian
