The best way to give feedback is to go to the Aperture menu and select "feedback" - you can also find the page used if you do a google search on "Apple Aperture Feedback".
Developers and product managers do read these and other forums off and on, but it's hard to say if there is constant monitoring. Feedback is reaching them though as in 1.1 they have already added some much requested features.
Probably of support for that (and other) cameras being added depends on how many requests they get. I did lobby for Linear DNG support, which hopefully they will add soon - this would let you use your images transformed by the adobe DNG converter, so if you found that quality OK you'd be set.

  • Using Aperture, I printed a large hardcover book.  Upon delivery, I found a gross error in wording on the cover.  Is there a way to get the cover only reprinted?

Using Aperture, I printed a large hardcover book.  Upon delivery, there was a spelling error on the cover  of the books.  Is it possible to get just the cover of the books reprinted correctly?

No.  If Aperture works similar to iPhoto as far a creating PDFs of the book you can create a pdf of the book and using it find a printer like Kinkos that could print a new cover. The PDF file that gets created by Control-clicking the background in the book mode will create the correct type of pdf file for this:
In iPhoto the PDF that gets created when you try to print the book and select PDF ➙ Save as PDF creates the wrong format for what you want.  If you have trouble creating that PDF file ask over in the Aperture forum.

  • Plist strings to UILabel: formatting specific words in the text?

    Developers,
I have a UILable populated by a plist string. I would like the UILabel to display text, with specific words in bold format.
I have looked around for a solution to this problem, but I haven't found anything useful on the net.
    Is this possible?
I have been thinking that this could be done by using a key (e.g. stars around a word *word1*) that identifies particular words within the plist string to be formatted. An if statement could then be used to filter through which words should be formatted, within each string. I'm not sure if this would work or how i would implement it, which is why i turn to you for your experience and advice.

Any single instance of UILabel can only have one font, one text color, etc. There's no way to draw one letter or word differently from any other.

As always, you're on the right track, James. In fact if you extend your idea to include syntax for italics, underlines, superscripts, etc., then add font family, point size and text color, then add various paragraph styles, you'll be well on your way to inventing what's known as "rich text".
So the web search keys you needed were "UILabel UITextView rich text". I think the two most common solutions to your requirement are: (1) If the text is static, put the words in separate labels; (2) The recommended, and most general solution: Use UIWebView in place of UILabel.
No. 2 isn't as kinky as it might seem, even if you've never used HTML (the most widely known example of rich text). Here's a short blog that's probably enough to get you going: [Display Rich Text Using a UIWebView|http://iphoneincubator.com/blog/windows-views/display-rich-text-using -a-uiwebview]. The responses on that page include some good tips too.

  • Importing referenced images into the Aperture library

I've searched and seen related questions but not this one exactly.
I have images that I unknowingly (new aperture user) imported as referenced files. Now I'd like to import them into the aperture library without loosing ratings, etc so that they are included in my vault. How do I do this without starting over with these images?
    Thanks - Rick

  • From the Aperture wedding samples: Completely unacceptable output vs ACR

Besides the quirks, pauses, $400 to upgrade my video card(which ran fine with CS2/Bridge/ACR), oh and and twice a day crash, I reallly tried my best to make Aperture sing. However, the output is where the rubber meets the road. Only one word can describe the output from Aperture.
    Atrocious.
To be fair, I took one of the D2X wedding sample NEFs from the Aperture install disk:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/CHW_7533.NEF
Took it into Aperture, only applied .5 sharpening(default) and exported it:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/wedding-sample-aperture.jpg
Took the same NEF into Bridge/ACR, here is the side car file of adjustments I made in a few keystrokes:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/CHW_7533.xmp
and the resulting image that not only save 4x faster than Aperture, but looks 4x better:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/wedding-sample-acr.jpg
I will stick with Aperture if anyone can get output from Aperture that looks as good or better than the one from Bridge/ACR.
Otherwise I have a Radeon X 800 XT to return and a software app to eBay.
    Thanks for trying.
My time on the Aperture beta team is over.

I found a bit of time this afternoon, so here you go.
    1024 pixel high version:
    http://www.azurevision.co.uk/aperture/wedding-srgb-ijw-1024.jpg
    Full size version:
    http://www.azurevision.co.uk/aperture/wedding-srgb-ijw.jpg
    Aperture settings used:
    http://www.azurevision.co.uk/aperture/wedding-settings-ijw.jpg
What you won't like is that I used a workaround - exported as 16-bit to a hot folder which uses an Automator action to change them to JPEG, which automatically drops the bit-depth to 8-bit. Obviously this isn't going to help for books or web gallerys.
I was pleasantly surprised how little it added to the export time, about two seconds for the full size version.

how do I access photos in Aperture with adobe 4.  Aperture now has a shared library with iphoto

You don't, in a word. Lighroom understands neither the iPhoto nor the Aperture Library. Export the files from iPhoto / Aperture to the Finder and take it from there.

  • First Time To the Windows Developers Board? Start Here

Welcome to the (Windows, Android, Innovation) Forum for Lenovo Developers
First, let’s make sure you’re in the right place.
Want to create or modify an app for Lenovo devices and innovation technologies, and work through any challenges which may arise?
You’re in the right place. Post your discussion topic or question here.
Need help getting something to work as shipped, or reporting bugs with configs as shipped?
That’s a support discussion that belongs on the main hardware boards. We’ll be super-happy to help you, so please post those there.
    You good?
    Okay let’s continue:
What the Developer Boards are For:
We’re striving to build a global community of developers who are stoked about creating apps for Lenovo PC+ devices and Lenovo Innovation Technologies.
Peer to peer support is king. As with the main hardware boards, support, info, and moderation comes from the community, not Lenovo staff.
Sharing  any "knowledge base" types of content you have created that would help the community.
What the Windows Developers Board Is For. We are obviously looking for Windows desktop and Win8 metro development conversations(duh! I know) , but here are some specific items we'd love to hear about from you:
Transition from developing Windows desktop apps to Windows 8 "metro style" apps. What has that been like, how have your workflows changed, etc.
Okay, so game developers, we love love love you! Fist bump, you rock, keep it coming... That said  Win 8 videa, music, business, productivity, social media, developers, STAND UP!  Lenovo wants YOU participating in this community!  Post here and let us know what you are working on, how we can help, etc.
    What it is not for:
Transacting business of any kind. We have several channels available to help sell and promote your app, but this forum isn't’t the right place. Mods get an 80% cut off the top of any business transactions posted here.
Hate speech, personal agendas, personal attacks, threats, antagonizing members, inappropriate content, and any generally knucklehead behavior will get you banned. (you'll also be subject to being forced to write code for an IBM PC Jr. until you’re rocking back and forth in a corner. ) In other words, the same rules that apply to Lenovo Forums apply to these boards. If you aren’t already familiar with the Lenovo Forums rules, get familiar here
     How We Roll Here…
In general ,the vibe on these boards will be transparent, useful, challenging, and non-marketing-speak-ish.  We try to save the “unique selling propositions” and “corporate-speak” to the marketing crowd.  We try not to take ourselves too-too seriously as well.

  • Where are the Aperture Previews?

I'm at a loss trying to work out why my Aperture preview pics are not coming up as available jpeg files in "Photos".  In other words, the files used by other apps such as Mail, iTunes, etc.  If I try to send an email and add a picture only a very outdated (and empty) iPhoto folder appears as an option.  What happened to the Aperture previews that worked just fine until I migrated to iCloud (may or may not be related but the problem started on the same day)?  I have the preview boxes checked in Aperture Preferences.  I have done all of the Aperture First Aid options such as rebuild and restore.  I have deleted and updated the previews using the instructions provided in the Aperture User Manual and still nothing.  I even rebuilt a new library using my externally saved backup vault.  Nothing works.  It's like, for lack of better wording, the computer refuses to share Aperture previews with any other application.  I can use Aperture itself just fine to import, edit, save files, I just cannot use the previews of them in Mail, Desktop, iTunes, etc.  When I do a generate previews the activity window shows all 7,000 previews being generated but where are they and why are they not available to other apps?
Also, even though the new iCloud Photostream is turned on and working just fine on my ATV2, iPad 1 and iPhone I cannot get it to work on my iMac.  I check the photostream box in System Pref/iCloud and Aperture but after a slight pause the box goes unchecked by itself.  All software has been confirmed the latest available.
I appreciate any suggestions as I am at a loss on what to do next other then a full Aperture reinstall which I really do not want to do from DVD and numerous online updates unless my only option.   Even with a vault backup I am still nervous of losing 7000 pics.   Even then I still need to use the vault to recreate a new library so if the problem is somehow hidden within the vault a reinstall likely would not help either (I believe).   If that is the case (a corrupted vault), what do I do then?
    Many Thanks
    Mark

All software has been confirmed the latest available.
    Mac OS X (10.6.3)
Is your signature correct, then? I'd recommend to upgrade to 10.6.8.
I check the photostream box in System Pref/iCloud and Aperture but after a slight pause the box goes unchecked by itself.
You seem to be using iPhoto and Aperture alternately. You can share your Photo Stream only with one of these Applications. Maybe this is causing the stream to automatically beeing switched off. This has been reported by others. Search for other threads with "photo stream turning off" in the iCloud Forum.
I have done all of the Aperture First Aid options such as rebuild and restore.  I have deleted and updated the previews using the instructions provided in the Aperture User Manual and still nothing.  I even rebuilt a new library using my externally saved backup vault.
Have you tried to remove your Aperture Preference file? This file tells the Media Browser where the Aperture Library is located. If you have not done so already:
    Quit Aperture
Open your user Library (inside your Home Folder) in the Finder and navigate to the "Preferences" folder.
Move your preferences file Library->Preferences-> com.apple.Aperture.plist to the desktop
Restart Aperture and direct it to your Aperture Library. Quit Aperture again.
Try to use the Media Browser from the System Preferences by setting your Desktop Picture.

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

  • How to set tabstops in MS Word using the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit

Using the Report Generation Toolkit of LabVIEW, I need to set multiple tabstops that very in distance in MS Word.  I also have different sets of tabstops that I use and re-use at different times in the same report.  Is there a way to set the tabstops under program control?  I searched through the various VIs and found that there is a property ("Tabstops", "Word.Tabstops") in the _ParagraphFormat property node that refers to tabstops.  I found it in the Word Format Paragraph (adv) VI.  Unfortunately, I could not determine how to use it.  Any suggestions?  Is this an operational element?

    Bluebell,
Sounds like you've already done some fantastic work to expose the various properties and methods of MS Word. It took me about 20 min before I could find the specific property that you were talking about! I found it under Word.Document>>Paragraphs>>Tabstops>>Add. There is a position, alignment and leader parameter that you can set from this property node. I've found that the best way to discover what these parameters do is to simply experiment. You could also try using the macro recorder in Word, perform the specific task, and then look at the code generated. I'm guessing that position sets the position of the tabstop itself. It sounds like your application is really specific. For such a specific task, I think I'd write a macro and call that macro from LabVIEW.

  • How can I install Aperture on my new Macbook Pro. I am up to date with my Mac Pro, I have the Aperture 1 and installation disks but cant remember how I got to 3. Can anyone help?  Many thanks regards Alf

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .
    Many thanks regards  Alf

Then you can download the Trial version of Aperture 3 and unlock it with your serial numbers - you will need all three for all three versions: A current link to the Trial version is in this support document, also instructions on how to reinstall on different systems:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
    Regards

BTW: Your Aperture 3 serial number will be displayed in the "About" panel - the panel you see, when you use the command "About Aperture" from the Aperture menu in the main menu bar.

Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it.
