Word97 and norton anti virus

Hi there
I found out that whenever, we ,in the company, try to use OLE2 with word97, calling from forms, we will have problem if the workstation is using norton antivirus. In most of the word97 OLE, we have to disable "enable Office Plug-in". Otherwise the forms will give error when we call the OLE2 function. Any solution for this. We Want to ensure that the workstation is protected with norton and can use OLE2 at the same time

Don't allow Norton to touch your TM backup volume. Unless your employer requires you to use anti-virus software I would recommend uninstalling it. There are no Mac viruses. The software is really not necessary.
If removing it is not an option for you, then be sure Norton does not attempt to check your TM backup volume. If it does it will misunderstand the content of certain files used by TM. If it makes any changes as a result of this your entire TM backup will become useless (and may be so already.)

  • Time Machine and Norton Anti Virus

I started getting error messages from Time Machine after I installed Norton Anti Virus. Norton found virus issues on the Time Machine Disk, but on on the Mac from where all the files originated.
Are there particular settings I need to use them together?

  • MacBook Pro and Norton Anti Virus

I recently recieved an email in my junk folder that I reported to the internet crime bureau. I am new to Mac computers but I have heard that you do not need a anti virus program, Norton, on your computer because Apple runs on a UNIX system. Should I install Norton? I have not had anything "weird" or anything out of the ordinary pop up or happen on my computer. Just want to be cautious. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

The general consensus is that you should not need to install any anti-virus software on your Mac. As you can also run Windows on a Mac, you would still want to install an antivirus program within Windows.
You'll see lots of people that recommend that you stay away from Norton AV. If you do wish to install an antivirus program on your Mac, the most common recommendation (and it's free) is ClamXAV:

  • ITunes 7.1 and Norton Anti-virus do not get along!

Sounds like Itunes 7.1 is causing hella problems for everyone out there. Add me to the list. My Itunes works, my library is there, but this update, unlike every previous update Itunes has done, is not recognized by Norton Antivirus. Every 2-3 seconds I get an Internet Worm Protection Notice about Itunes, asking me if I want to allow it access. I of course say yes.....and then the same window pops up again. Extremely annoying.... I've also lost the ability to view other people's libraries over my local area network...not cool.
Any suggestions of what I can do within either Itunes or Norton Antivirus (2005....all latest updates) to regain my sanity?
    HP Pavillion   Windows XP

i'm with CoJeff on this one.
typically it's the firewall with NIS 2005 (or standalone Norton Personal Firewall) that causes grief with iTunes. (we've had these issues dating back to the iTunes 4.8 days with NIS 2005), but every now and then i see reports of that worm protection feature causing grief in similar ways.
the amount of reports of problems with NIS 2006 and 2007 are literally a couple of orders of magnitude less than with NIS 2005. so it may be worth just upgrading to one of the more recent versions.
... if you'd prefer to stick with your 2005, though, let us know and we can try running through a few of techniques we've used to deal with this.

  • Norton Anti-virus and burning Appendable CDs: possible with Automator?

I want to build an automator workflow that would export selected photos from iPhoto, create a disk image, and then burn the image to a CD, leaving it appendable. I also would like to be able to turn Norton Anti-virus off at the beginning of the workflow and back on at the end. (It sometimes interferes with the creation of a disk image).
I find no Automator actions for Disk Utility (to burn a disk leaving it appendable) or Norton Anti-virus. Am I out of luck?
An earlier (now archived) post implied there was a non-automator way to do this, but I didn't understand the geekspeek. Can it be done with AppleScript? If so, can someone either walk me through the steps or point me to a good intro to AppleScript?
    Thanks!

youtube video is not playing on my mac pro laptop. Just a blank screen shows up where the video should be playing. I have norton anti virus and firewall installed on the laptop. Could it have something to do with it?

unless you have a partition for another operating system, such as Windows or Linux, most mac users would agree that any a/v software is completly unnecesary and will do more harm than good.  There is a free a/v in the appstore called "ClamXav.   Have you installed all software updates and also have you tried youtube using different browsers (chrome, safari, opera, etc)?

  • Norton anti-virus slows down the start up time in Windows Vista

    Hi,
please help, i am being driven to distraction by the slow start up time of my laptop.
I've only had it for a few weeks and don't use it for anything beyond producing word documents etc.
It has gradually been getting slower on startup and i suspect it has something to do with the Norton anti-virus software on it and the updates for norton that i have downloaded (thinking that this was the right thing to do).
Looking at the problems and solutions log on the computer the date that it really started to slow down coincides with downloading a norton update, which i have been unable to uninstall to check if this really is the problem.
Further i have tried doing a System Restore, my laptop was not able to complete.
I am stuck on the DOS screen for 10 mins with the message:
    PXE-E32 FTFP open timeout
I have no idea what this means but the Problems and Solutions log says something about a system hang?
I have looked on the web for other anti-virus software and they all seem to have one problem or another and slow computers down on startup.
Does anyone know of a solution or do i just have to make a cup of tea when i switch my computer on and lace it with vodka till it has booted up completely!
I am a novice when it comes to using computers so would welcome any non-technical advice.
    thanks

    Hi guys
I would like to add some words about my experience using the Symantec Norton Antivirus software.
I have used this software 3 year long. It was great because it supports one of the best virus filtering options BUT it really slow downs the operating system.
I didnt use it on with Vista preinstalled notebook but on Win XP and I have to say that the notebook boot process was halted for about 30sec-1min till the whole parts of Norton Antivirus software has started It was very annoying
However, I switched to AntiVir. This is software described by marina4000 and Im really happy because the boot performance increased.
So finally I would also recommend removing this Symantec Norton Antivirus software and to switch to the other free AntiVir software ;)
    Bye

  • Anti-virus Software: Norton Anti-virus OR Intego's Virus Barrier?

    Hello all.
Let's just assume here that "we need an anti-virus software" and not dwell into the other area of discussion about Macs not needing any, despite the recent 'worms'.
Which one would you get, which one is better overall? Norton Anti-virus or Intego's Virus Barrier?
I think I remember reading a MacWorld magazine back a few months and think they rated Virus Barrier the best.
What about you guys? Thanks and cheers.

First, do not believe the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) spread about Norton AntiVirus. A good bit of that is undeserved, especially when it comes to NAV 10, which is the Tiger-compatible version and what I use.
I recently engaged in a debate on this subject in this thread, so you can read some of my thoughts there in response to the usual FUD spread about NAV and Symantec Norton products in general.
See my "Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware" FAQ for my recommendations as well as a list of some recent Mac OS X security threats that have emerged, including Trojans, rootkits, and spyware.
You can also read another post of mine on this topic here re: NAV vs. Intego.

how to uninstall norton anti virus for mac

A little late to the game, but .sit files are Stuffit files as developed by http://www.stuffit.com/ Apple used to use this compression format, but does no longer, and no longer includes the free Stuffit Expander program made by Stuffit.com. If you need to extract an old .sit uninstaller, get it from Stuffit.com. And also any company making such a program for Mac OS X should seriously consider upgrading their downloads to be .dmg.zip files instead, which are more easy to extract on Mac OS X without downloading extra software.

  • Norton anti virus

I just got the new imac with OS X 10.4.8. I moved my stuff from my old mac running OS X 10.3.9 via the firewire as asked during set up. The problem I am having is the Norton Anti Virus I was running in 10.3.9 will not run in 10.4.8. I removed the Norton folder from my applications and to the trash, but the yellow and black ying-yang symbol remains in my upper tool bar and it still wants to scan. I have to turn off the scan feature every time I sign on or I keep getting an error message till it is off. I can't find any way to uninstall this stupid thing, and I can not remove it from the toolbar at all. I sure hope someone can help me.

  • How do I remove Norton Anti-Virus

I purchased my MacPro Early 2008 used, and it had Norton Anti-Virus on it.  I deleted all the folders a number of months ago when I got repeated prompts on startup that the program needed to be upgraded, but apparently that did not uninstall it.  I just tried to use the RemoveSymantecMacFiles https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080427024142EN_En dUserProfile_en_us, but it will not accept my admin password.  I'm guessing it wants the admin password of the previous owner, who I have no way of contacting.
Any suggestions for a work-around?  Apparently it is keeping Super Duper from being able to back up my Mac hard drive so I need to figure this out.

When you buy a machine used, if it comes with the previous owner's stuff on it, the first thing you need to do is erase the hard drive and start fresh. You don't need the hassle of working through all the problems someone else has created - especially someone who would install Norton on their Mac!

  • My Norton anti-virus not compatible with firefox add-ons anymore? I can't update without Norton being disabled your warning tells me.

You sent me a software update. It tells me you found an incompatible add-on. It further tells me that my Norton Vulnerability Protection 11.3.0.9-5 won't work with this update, and will be disabled. I'm suppose to wait until they're compatible and then you will update and re-enable my Norton Protection?? I don't know that much about computers but I do know I need to protect it. I just bought this Norton Anti-Virus Protection at Christmas and now you are telling me it's no good? What am I suppose to do in the meantime? Like I said, I don't know much about this so please use simple terms and be specific.
    Thank You!

That link is for the tool bar, not the vulnerability protection component. The latter is a known issue with Symantec and apparently was a conscious decision on their part on getting patches out in a timely manner at the expense of breaking some functionality.

  • Downloading installer works, but installation does not. Nothing happens. New laptop with Win 7 (no earlier Firefox version) & Norton Anti-virus. 3rd Firefox

When I click button to install now, it only restarts the EZ download installer again. I've gone through the process at least 15 times now. I installed FireFox twice before on Windows XP with no issue. I've tried by turning off Norton, computer shut down & restarts, searched Internet Explorer settings for a setting to change, and still no success. I see no one else having this problem in the troubleshooting files, so it must be me.

    finitarry,
    Thank you for contributing.
I have downloaded the 607 KB "Firefox_Setup_19.0.2.exe" file four times now from at least three different Mozilla websites via EZDownload. I was very careful about that because one time I did it with Norton Anti-virus temporarily disabled. I double-click on the above file and it opens a new window with various "extra" software options and finally arrives at "Install Now" or "Later" buttons. Clicking"Install Now" brings up a Windows Open File - Security Warning box with "Run" or "Cancel" buttons. Clicking "Run" starts the setup file all over. I'm in an endless do-loop. It never installs Firefox and no new Firefox files show up on my PC.
    AliceWyman,
    Thank you for contributing.
Before beginning this post, I scoured the Support files and especially the "Download, Install and Migration" help files. Most topics close to mine deal with the Norton toolbar, which seems to have been resolved.
Doing some more looking, I found that my setup file was always 607KB, yet the website says it is 19.6MB. When I download it to my Windows 7 laptop, I have gotten a 607 KB size file four times, even though the process did not seem to be interrupted. However, using my Windows XP PC, I get 19.6MB. That could be the problem. I'll transfer the 19.6MB file from the XP to Win7 and see if that works. Thanks. I'll get back to you.
    3/24/2013: It worked. Hallelujah!
Someone might want to verify this only happens to me. Maybe it is one of my settings or a fluke or maybe I'm paranoid, but a brand-new laptop with Windows 7 factory-installed stops the Firefox download at 607KB four times in a row (on different days) with no error message. I have to transfer the file from an old Windows XP PC. That sounds to me like Microsoft is trying to prevent the use of Firefox. It could have been something in Windows 7 Home Premium (service pack 1), Internet Explorer (version 9.0.8112.16421 64-bit), Bing, or less likely, Norton Anti-Virus (because I ran it disabled one time - even though Norton labelled the file as medium risk). Just a thought . . .
Right now, I am happily setting up the rest of my system around the quicker, more efficient, more user-friendly, less restricting, Firefox browser. Thank you. =)
