WordPerfect

Hello everyone - new to this forum but impressed by what I have read.
I am 90% sure I am going to switch to an iMac as the home hub to replace an aging PC. Our two daughters already have iBooks and we use Airport Extreme to share wirelessly our broadband and a printer.
I can't ditch the PC however unless I can do some of my office work from home, and that would involve reading and collaborating on documents that have been written in WordPerfect.
Does anyone know if, and if so which, Mac applications can read WordPerfect documents (and I include MS Office Mac version).
As to other core business applications I'm less bothered about email compatibility because I tend to use MS Exchange's web access feature to access my work emails and download attachments (and I have a CrackBerry!) - although it would be handy to know if an iMac could be set up for VPN with our MS based office network.
The third limb of my question is about Excel on Office for Mac. I would do loads on that application - starting one in the office on a PC and then mailing it to myself and working on it at home, then back again etc. Is that all pretty seamless between the two platforms as far as anyone knows?
Thanks in advance

Andrew,
welcome to Apple Discussions.
I cannot answer your question about WordPerfect. If you only need to
b read
them, maybe you can save them in Word or AppleWorks format (though I don't know if WordPerfect can do that).
You could use Pages to read Word documents. However, read this thread for some things to consideer: Dale Gillard, "Word update soon or Pages?" #6, 03:50am Nov 3, 2005 CDT. For short, if you need to work with Word documents, use Word on Mac.
There have been several discussions about Office and Pages. Here you can follow the latest discussion: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68bd9fa6. It's also worth to search for "Office" in the Pages discussion list.
Mac OS X has some built-in ability for VPN connections (L2TP over IPSec and PPTP). You can try to set up a VPN connection if you launch "Internet Connection" from Applications. However, I doubt that this gives you enough options to meet your company's VPN settings (eg Exchange mode, Proposal check, Lifetime, Encryption algorithm). I would recommend you to check VPN Tracker. It's easy to use and supports several VPN gateways (pre-configured settings).
Do you really need to mail Excel and Word files? Maybe you're allowed to use a USB stick.

  • LaserJet 1100 won't print in WordPerfect X4 unless manual button is pressed for each page.

Hi - I'm using a Toshiba Satellite - Windows Vista 64 bit operating system.  When using WordPerfect X4, I can't get my HP LaserJet 1100 to print unless I manually push the button for each page.  I have no problems getting it to print automatically in Word or with .pdf documents.  Something is not compatible with WordPerfect.  It was printing fine to begin with, but once I printed an older version of Avery labels, it seemed to trigger this need to have to manually press the big button.  Help!

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • Two sided printing with wordperfect HP Photosmart 6515

Any ideas how to set up two sided printing with wordperfect documents using  HP Photosmart 6515

    Hello,
You should be able to print on two sides using this method for your product:
NOTE:You can print your document on both sides of the paper, instead of just one side. Click on the Advanced button on the Paper/Quality or Layout tab. From the Pages to Print drop-down menu select Print Odd Pages Only . Click OK to print. After the odd numbered pages of the document have been printed, remove the document from the output tray. Reload the paper in the input tray with the blank side facing up. Return to the Pages to Print drop-down menu and then select Print Even Pages Only . Click OK to print.

  • Converting Wordperfect documents into Word

I am considering upgrading from 10.3 to 10.4. I have over 100 "Wordperfect" documents (a Classic application). Can I use automater to open these documents, copy the contents of these documents and paste them into a "Word" document, and then save each document? Can automator do that for 1 document, or can I create a "script" where it does that for all documents in a specific folder? Thanks in advance for the help.

My problem when I do that is that I get a lot of symbols that I do not
    recognize for example:

  • Converting multiple WordPerfect 9 documents into 1 PDF

    Greetings.
I'm new, hope it's the right place to post and get some insight.
Does anyone know that Adober Acrobat X Standard support WordPerfect 9 PDF conversion? We would like to convert multiple WP 9 documents into 1 PDF file. However, I did not see such option available from the selection list... that is when I try to convert/select multiple documents, the list does not give me the WordPerfect as the source file type... Any suggestion is welcome.
    Thanks.

Corel's WP has not been and is not supported by Acrobat.
Back in the day Corel used an in-house routine to create PDF.
A few years ago a news release discussed Corel using a Nuance routine.
Current news release speaks to Corel's PDF Fusion.
So, yes PDF can created out of WP; just not with Acrobat.
To learn what PDF creation or post-processing features Corel has or does not have you'll want to visit Corel's web space.
If you want amped up PDF manipulation / post-processing you'll want to consider Acrobat Pro.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.51 Hangs When Printing to PDF from WordPerfect.

Seems Adobe Acrobat 9.51 is hanging when attempting to do a conversion to PDF by printing to PDF from WordPerfect (using X3/X5).  Problem is it also hangs the rest of the PC.  Have to attempt to kill the process (though it is so slow I end up having to restart the PC).  Anybody have any thoughts on this.  Attempted to do a repair (no help), removed the program and reinstalled (also no help).  Thought maybe another process was killing this but turned off all startup items.  Maybe I missed some uninstall items I need to manually remove?  Any help would be appreciated.

Knowing the OS would be helpful as it may be a factor.
If the OS is Windows 7 Acrobat 9.x will not provide full functionality.
Regardless, WP file format(s) are not compatible / supported by Acrobat PDFMaker.
Corel uses its own publish to PDF process rather than anything Adobe.
With Acrobat installed you can print to the Adobe PDF virtual printer.
If you are not doing a File - Print and selecting the Adobe PDF printer then you are using a WP rather than an Adobe process provided by Acrobat.
    Be well...

  • Using HP psc 1210 All-in-One to print from Wordperfect 11

I just purchased a new HP 64-Bit computer and a new copy of Wordperfect 11. I hooked everything up and installed the new program, but I can't get my printer to print correctly. I tried installing all the newest updates and any service packs offered for Wordperfect but it still won't work. It will print, but the image is distorted and it only does it with the Wordperfect program. Please help since I use the program for my small business.

    No one can help me!?

  • Latest openoffice won't open WordPerfect frm files

Not sure if this is an openoffice issue or arch/package issue.  Previously with openoffice-base (3.2.1-3) I was able to open WordPerfect frm files.  Yesterday I upgraded to 3.2.1-4 and I can no longer open the .frm files.  Interestingly if I downgrade back to 3.2.1-3 I still cannot open the .frm files.  This leads me to believe it may be related to a dependency?  Below is the output of the upgrade that shows other packages upgraded at the same time:

that probably broke it. LibreOffice should be affected by this. You may want to try it out.
Thanks, yes downgrading to 0.8.14-1 worked.  I will report this upstream.  Thanks for your help.

  • Old DOS program running in MED-V - WordPerfect 5.0

I'm struggling with getting an old DOS program, WordPerfect 5 to run in MED-V. I've gotten it to laund when running a workspace in Full Desktop but not in a Seamless configuration. Does anyone have any tips on getting older programs to run happily in Seamless
    mode?Orange County District Attorney

I realize this is three years late, but maybe you'll see the answer. You can most definitely run MS-DOS programs in seamless mode in Windows Virtual PC, and presumably in MED-V also. You can find the method in this message on another forum:

  • I have a MacBook - MAC OS X Version 10.6.8 -- I would like to run WordPerfect 9 by Corel Office on it.  Is there any way to do it?

I have a MacBook - MAC OS X Version 10.6.8 -- I would like to run WordPerfect 9 by Corel on it.  Can this be done?

No, you can't run that on Mac OS X; what makes you think you could?
If you want to run Windows software on a Mac, you need to install Boot Camp and Windows, or use other virtualization software such as Virtual Box, VMware, or Parallels to install and run Windows.

  • Old Wordperfect files now Unix

When I used Corel WordPerfect on the Mac, I had a number of files that once I had gone to OS X showed up as Unix files and I cannot open them. Mind control Link Plus will not deal with them, nor will they open in Word, Pages, Text Edit, Preview.
    Any suggestions?

Sounds like they lost their creator code. If you've got xcode installed, you can reset it with /Developer/Tools/SetFile
If you have a file that opens normally, you can display it's creator code using:
    /Developer/Tools/GetFileInfo

  • Anyone who used WordPerfect remembers their macros--atimesaving "mini-program" (I think they called it) so you wouldn't have to retype often-used text like your name, address, phone number. How do I do this in Firefox?

I'm sure Firefox has a shortcut so I don't have to retype often-used text over and over again (like my name, address, phone #).
If anyone remembers using WordPerfect, "macros" was their tool for accomplishing this.
    What's the shortcut in Firefox?

Firefox does have what is called "Form Autocomplete". It remembers frequently used form entries (such as a name), and suggests them next time you fill out a form.
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Form-autocomplete https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Form-autocomplete] explains the feature in more detail, as well as info to make sure it is working properly.

  • Generating a report of PCs with WordPerfect 10

    Hi,
I am trying to do something that seems so simple.
I setup the inventory database/service/policies and I want to generate a report of all Zen 7 agent Pcs that have WordPerfect 10 or have WordPerfect 10 and X3 installed.
I have run queries for this. I can see all the software a particular PC has, even other Corel applications. I just cannot see anything in my results regarding WordPerfect of any version. Any help or ideas? Thank you.
    Dave

  • Opening a WordPerfect Document

I recently switched to Mac and transfered all my documents over from my PC. Some of the documents were created in WordPerfect (which isn't even installed on that computer anymore) and I can't figure out how to open them on my Mac. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try using the free http://www.abisource.com/ as an intermediary. (I have not used it myself for ages, but I think it should work.)

  • Use Export PDF to Convert WordPerfect

I subscribe to Export PDF.  It converts virtually any format to PDF except for WordPerfect Corel ".wpd" format.  I can do the conversion from within WordPerfect.  Except my 160-page document, containing a couple of pages of .gif text will not convert.  Can anyone tell me why?

    Hi lynrowe,
Yes, you can convert PDF to .doc format. There is an option in 'Convert To' drop down list.
    See this screen shot.
