Wordpress & iTunes Episode Description

Hello,
iTunes seems to take the wordpress blog entry as the content for it's episode description.
My blog entry does not come out looking very good as the iTunes episode description; simply because it contains text and links that are of no use in the iTunes description box.
How can I get the iTunes episode description box (when you click the little 'i') to show other, more suitable text - and how to get it to stop showing things like '&#8216' all over the place.
It would seem strange to have to simplify my important blog entry just so the iTunes description looks nice.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
ps. I'm using Wordpress 2.2, iTunes 7.2, and I've got my feed going through Feedburner.
iBook G4 12.1   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Thanks for responding.
Where would I make that change? Is 'Optional Excerpt' in iTunes, Wordpress or Feedburner, and how to get it to pick that field up instead of the main blog text?
Thanks again for responding.
Matt

  • ITunes Episode Description not showing on iPad

I've made a series of short videos to show as episodes of a TV show in iTunes but the episode description that I've put into iTunes does not show on the iPad once sync'd.
I have also got a TV series that I bought from the iTunes store and on this, the description does show on the iPad.
I can't see what's different between the two scenarios - does anyone have any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks

The descriptions you see on your iOS device cannot be edited from iTunes. You need a metadata editor in order to edit those.
    I personaly use Metax (http://www.kerstetter.net/index.php/projects/software/metax)

  • Itunes won't display my episode descriptions

    Hey,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm pretty new at this. I just submitted my first podcast to itunes and the listing won't display me episode descriptions. Would someone be so kind as to check my RSS file?
The URL of the RSS file is
    www.indigoimp.com/poweredbysatan/pbscomedypodcast.xml
    The itunes listing is
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=123048064&s=143 441
and the line that may be giving me trouble (but which looks ok to me) is..
<itunes:summary>All a man really needs in life is sex, beef, sleep, and a big stick to wack things with. In this epsiode the artist explains why beautiiful women must bring beef. Episode includes his beloved song "You Must Give Me Beef"</itunes:summary>
    Thanks in advance!

    Chemholio, welcome to the discussions!
Your <itunes:summary> tag looks fine, and if it's in the <channel> tag, will appear as the podcast description.
If it's in the <item> tag, it will display when someone clicks the circled "i". That's where you have it.
If you want it to appear under the "Description" column for episodes, then you must use the <itunes:subtitle> tag.
    Check the example at
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Podcast episode description not showing up in iTunes

    Hi
I've got just an audio version of my podcast and as I wanted a bit more flexibility and statistics I started using Feedburner for the audio version. The only bad thing that I've found is that the individual episode description is just the description of the podcast itself. Have you got any suggestions what am I doing wrong or how to fix it?
iTunes Store link to the podcast - http://itunes.apple.com/ee/podcast/id415167798
    Original Podcast RSS - http://AppleSpotAudio.blip.tv/rss/itunes/
And the Feedburner RSS that goes to iTunes - http://feeds.feedburner.com/Ounahelid
BTW! I know that the last episode (no. 40) does not have a description in the Feedburner feed but does have a description in the original podcast RSS. That does not make a difference as I wanted to see what happens when theres no description at all. I latter updated the original feed to have the description but either the changes have not taken effect in Feedburner or they just wont update it.

You've fallen over a bug in the Store. According to Apple's Podcast Tech Specs page the 'Description' column in the Store page shows the contents of the 'itunes:subtitle' tag - the text you want is correctly shown in this tag and in the 'description' tag (which iTunes doesn't read but other readers do).
However, despite what they say, the 'Description' column actually shows the contents of the 'itunes:summary' tag (also seen by clicking on the 'i' button) which in your case is the same for every episode. So to get this to work you will need to amend this tag.
On subscribing the 'Decscription' column correctly shows the 'itunes:subtitle' tag. However you should look at this; you have used character codes for your accented characters and iTunes will not render these - it's showing the actual codes which looks messy. I don't know how you can work round this to get it to show the correct characters. If they are available on by the use of modifier keys you might be able to just type them in, and then it might show them - or it might not: it depends on whether the characters are covered by UTF-8. You've managed to achieve this with your title - Õunasaade.

  • TV Episode Description Missing in iTunes 12

Pretty much what it says... the new interface doesn't provide episode descriptions. Why remove that feature?
Also, now have to scroll through several seasons to get to the latest one instead of just clicking the season I want at the top of the show.  Why change that?
Why does it seem like every new release since Steve Jobs died the software interfaces get worse?

I'm lost.  I see episode descriptions just fine.  All I did was go to the iTunes Store, search on "Glee", and I found the various seasons.  I then opened Season 6 and see this (which includes each episode description):

  • Is there an EASY way to submit podcasts to the itunes store? i've tried creating podcasts in garageband, then somewhere after wordpress  itunes  doesn't recognize the feed. my process has been (i am open to suggestions for other free and EASY services/me

is there an EASY way to submit podcasts to the itunes store? i've tried creating podcasts in garageband, then somewhere after wordpress  itunes  doesn't recognize the feed.
my process has been (i am open to suggestions for other free and EASY services/methods):
garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
    share to itunes.
    drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
    i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
    still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

if anyone has a super EASY process, i would LOVE to know what it is. EASY, meaning no html and also free. there are many free online storage systems available, many of which i currently use. the above process was just me trying to figure it out, if you have an easier method, please share. thank you so much!

  • My podcast episode descriptions have disappeared...

I've consulted several websites and I can't find the error in my XML file.
    podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/30-000-kilohertz-of-sound/id299700719?mt=2
    xml file: http://30000khz.com/rss.xml
Using this code under each item:
<itunes:summary>Eden Gauteron, Emlyn McFarland, Michael McFarland and Shawn Wickens use music to inspire scenes LIVE at Baltimore Improv Group.</itunes:summary>
<description>Eden Gauteron, Emlyn McFarland, Michael McFarland and Shawn Wickens use music to inspire scenes LIVE at Baltimore Improv Group.</description>
    thx!

They appear in the Store page within iTunes but not on the web page: I can only suppose that it's some sort of glitch. Your feed appears to be OK except that the latest episode has no 'itunes:summary' tag so the Store appears to have been using the 'description' tag (which it doesn't normally use).

  • Editing Podcast EPISODE description.

I'm using iWeb to publish podcasts. How do i get individual episode descriptions to publish?
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/working-gratitude-real-people./id569249288
The overall Podcast despcription is there. Where does iTunes look for the individual episode despcription?

The 'Description' column is populated from the 'itunes:subtitle' tag, and the text when you click the 'i' button at the right-hand end of the entry from the 'itunes:summary' tag. This page shows where the various tags' contents appear:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/itunestags.html
However at present there seems to be a bug in the system: many people's Description columns are turning up empty even though they are correct in the feed.

  • Episode description shows up in all web and desktop clients but not iOS 7 podcast app

I'm a podcast producer, and I've encountered a weird problem with episode descriptions. Namely, they are not showing up in the podcast app for iOS 7. (I have not had the opportunity to check phones other than my own.)
Browsing this forum, it seems like other people have reported similar problems, but they all came down to feed metadata problems, which were preventing episode descriptions from showing up anywhere on iTunes. While it's certainly possible that something is wrong with my feed metadata, what's weird is that episode descriptions show up just fine in iTunes, or if I look at my iTunes URL in a web browser. It's just on iOS that there's a problem. And yes, I do know that you have to be subscribed and tap the little 'i' - that just takes me to a page with my episode's length, data size (almost always very incorrect) and no description.
    Anyone have any ideas?
For reference, here is my feed URL:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/toafn
And here we are on the iTunes store:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-once-and-future-nerd/id711119555
    Thanks guys.

You are using feedburner - and with it you have it tracking stats - turn that off.
That is known to cause issues - especially with iOS devices.
    In your feedburner settings.
under - Analyze  and then  "Configure Stats"  - make sure all items are deselected.
And then under - Optimize -  and then "smartcast"  make sure "include itunes podcasting elements" is also NOT selected.
That should take care of issues people are seeing.

  • itunes:summary description

I recently added a description (<itunes.summary> to a previously loaded episode. I resent (pinged) my index.xml file and received a successful ping. However, my description does not show next to the episode or when I click on the i. Any ideas why?
You may also reply directly by e-mail.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Roger,
I'd already had a look in Feedburner and the description under 'Title/Description burner was empty.  However, you reply has made me double check and search really thoroughly.  I've found the rogue text under Optimize>Smartcast.
Now my question is, if I just delete this text completely, will the itunes:summary then just correctly feed through from the original xml?  This would be my desired solution so we make all our updates within the xml i.e. in one place.
If not, I can update Feedburner though.
    Thanks for you help.

  • Episode Descriptions Vanished

Hello, I've been useing iTunes to download TV shows ever since they added them. I just recently upgraded to 7.4.2 and have run into a strange problem. When in the iTunes Store the descriptions for TV shows no longer display. As you can imagine this makes it difficult to buy shows!
I'm sure I'm doing something stupid on my part, but for the life of me I cannot find any setting I might have toggled or anything that could account for this strange dissaparence. Once I download the episode the discription is there just fine. (At that point of course I can just hope for the best =)
Any help that you could give would be great!
    Thanks!

Control click on the column headers. Select Description from the menu that pops up.

  • Downloading TV shows from itunes - episodes appearing seperately not all under the same series despite all the information being the same.  How can I get them to appear under the same series

    Just that
I have many series - NCIS, West Wing etc where some episodes appear under the series and some appear on their own.
I have checked the info anf they appear to be identical.
How do I get them to group together corectly?

After a couple of days, I'm noticing that the repeat(ing) offenders have more than 10 episodes, and seem to keep repeating them every time I sync.
They only show once in my phone and in the iTunes Podcasts, but through iTunes and looking at what's in my phone is when I see the repeats.
Even after I've marked a podcast as played, and deleted it from within my phone, as well as telling iTunes to delete the played episodes, it still shows multiples of the played episodes.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it either. They aren't the newest ones either.

  • Does itunes u descriptions no longer support line breaks?

Hi. I've got a faculty member that wants all of his course recordings available on itunes u. Previously, he would write a description for each session which I would post in the description field. Now, it appears that the description field no longer supports line breaks. Content generated prior to June is fine but all new content just runs on in one long paragraph. Anyone else seeing this problem?

The collection is in the iTunes U directory. I'll have to breadcrumb you there since I don't know how to direct link. So, go to the University of Washington, Social Science, T536 Taxation of Trans-Pacific Transactions. In the description, you will see it is one giant paragraph, no formatting. Before we were converted to the new template (apple template, not our own) in April, this was formatted properly. I've created new collections and they also suffer from this same issue so it isn't simply a matter of the conversion. Thanks you for your help!
