WordService in Pages on Snow Leopard

My original thread is: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2321300&tstart=0
As it's got more to do with Pages, I'm also asking here.
Essentially, I tried to install WordService (http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/services.html) on my Snow Leopard Mac (Pages 2/'06). I used it on previous operating systems to determine how many words and characters there were in any given selection in Pages.
At first, I couldn't get it to work. After looking online, I found a suggestion to enable it in the Keyboard Shortcut Preferences in System Preferences. This I did, and it worked. By highlighting text, clicking on Pages > Services > Statistics, I got the information I wanted.
However, by this time, I had deleted the WordService.service file from where it had been copied (the installation instructions requires the user to copy that file from the downloaded zip to UserName > Library > Services to make it work). I had copied the file, but as I hadn't got WordService to work, had deleted the file from Library > Services. However, it still works. I can still use the Statistics command without it installed.
Does anyone know why this is? I'd have thought that if I deleted the file which made it work, then I wouldn't be able to use it in future.
Or: is a statistics service now built-in to Snow Leopard, in which case, I've been using that rather than WordService.
I can't work it out.
Thanks for your help,
Jonathan.

I was having a problem in that I couldn't get WordService to work. Now I seem to have it, even though I've deleted the file. I'm curious about what's going on.
You probably have it somewhere in one of the Libraries.
I'm interested that you've got the Statistics option (I'm assuming you don't have WordService installed). A user on these forums pointed WordService out to me a year or two ago because I was using Pages and wanted to get stats (numbers of words, chars, etc.) for a selection of text. The Info tab in Pages only gives that information for the whole document, not a selection.
I have Wordservices installed.
If you don't have WordService installed, but you do have that Statistics menu item and box, then I can only assume that what WordService used to do has been built into OS X. Which is fine, but I'd just like to know if that's the case.
I will uninstall Wordservices and come back to you.

  • Pages for Snow Leopard v10.6.8

Where can I download Pages for Snow Leopard v10.6.8?  I was about to download it from the App Store but then realised that Pages '09 v4.2 requires OS X v10.7.4 or later.
    Thanks.

Nowhere. You need to either purchase the DVD version or upgrade the computer's OS if possible.

  • How to resolve network issue or dns to access web page on snow leopard server?

I have my network setup like as follows:
    internet > router 1 > ethernet ports > switch > router 2
I have a mac osx snow leopard server connected to "router 1", but it is so slow when accessing a web page hosted on the server from a browser on a workstation connected to either router 1 or router 2?
Is there a problem with my network setup or maybe because I changed the name to newservername.local?

    @Jeff and @Camelot,
I think it is a DNS issue.  I completely reset the DNS settings on server and the local name with the steps below, but now cannot access the site hosted on the server at all
I used a modified version of http://www.mkahn.com/2010/09/configuring-dns-on-mac-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard-serve r-for-hosting/ to reset the server set
    1.  Stop DNS Service in Server Admin
    2.  Close Server Admin
    3.  Obtain 10.6 DNS Default files (below)
    4.  Overwrite the DNS files with DNS Default files:
    /etc/dns/loggingOptions.conf.apple
    /etc/dns/options.conf.apple
    /etc/dns/publicView.conf.apple
    /var/named/named.ca/etc/named.conf
    /var/named/named.local
    /var/named/localhost.zone
    5. Restart your server
All machines have 1ms ping responses within the network including this snow leopard server that I am trying to setup.  There is another test web server that return pages instantly within this network so I doubt it is a network issue, but a DNS issue.

  • Can't open .doc files in Pages with Snow Leopard

I just installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Pages can no longer open .doc files. I receive the error message: "The document “XXX.doc” couldn’t be opened."
    (Operating with iWork 09)
    Help?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
But now I don't have the option "save as" word document as I used to before I installed the update for snow leopard. It only lets me save as iwork '06 or '05.
That's Pages 3/iWork '08. You may have both iWork '08 & '09 on your Mac & '08 has opened. You can have more than one version, I have three, but you'll need to find a way to identify each one. I have changed the icons for two of the versions & have aliases to each in a folder where I added the version number. This way I can know which one I'm opening & they look different in my Dock. Do not add a version number to the actual application, the updaters then won't find them. (Can you tell I like changing icons? )

  • Print booklet truncates right side of page in Snow Leopard

I'm trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but my InDesign booklets clip the right side of a spread at 8-1/2 inches. I'm using an 8-1/2 x 11 paper size, landscape, with InDesign pages 8-1/2" tall and 5-1/2" wide.  The booklets print fine in system 10.5.
I can print regular landscape pages fine. It's just the Print Booklet output. The Preview shows it as being correct.
I thought it was my 10 year old Laserjet, but I just installed a new Laserjet and it has the same problem.
I thought it was a problem with InDesign CS3, but I just downloaded a trial of CS5 and it has the same problem.

    Hi writingnorth,
Is that the right hand side of the page after removing it from the printer?
Is the text on that side missing or is it compressed?
Does the printer show any error messages?
Also, please try the printhead clean to see what happens.

  • Where to buy Pages for Snow Leopard?

Where can I buy the version of Pages that will work with Snow Leopard (10.6.8)?
The App store only has v.4.2 which requires 10.7.4 or later.

I haven't checked prices for iWork '09, but I do know that Snow Leopard disk prices have skyrocketed, so check carefully.

  • I have upgraded to 10.6.8 on my macbook pro and find I don't have pages.  Pages in app store is for 10.10 only.  How can I access all my pages files in Snow Leopard?

I have upgraded to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard from Leopard on my macbook pro and now cannot read and write pages.  Pages in app store is for 10.10 and above.  I don't have a pages application. Where can I get pages for snow leopard?

It's been so long since I bought my macbook pro in August of 2010, but I do remember the iwork disk that had pages, numbers, and keynote on it, but I can't find the disk in my closet.  I did not realize that when I took my computer in to the genius bar to upgrade to Snow Leopard, and then to download Yosemite, that I would lose these applications.  I had no reason to open pages when I emptied my hard drive to upgrade to Snow Leopard, so I don't know if I kept iwork when I upgraded to Snow Leopard at the Genius Bar.  I had file vault on with my external drive on, and since removed it before the upgrade, but now all my documents are unable to open on my external drive.  ****.  So now the new problem is how do I undo file vault in a new OS 10.10 when encoded in 6.8?  Can I take my external drive in to Genius Bar?
I bought my macbook pro at Best Buy, but can't remember if iwork came with this computer, or with an older mac I bought.  Can anyone check to see if I have a valid key code, and will insertion of an iwork disc allow me to use pages with Yosmite?

  • How do I set default to Pages instead of Appleworks in Snow Leopard?

How do I change default from Appleworks to Pages in Snow Leopard?

Section starts are a page property.
If you don't want the text to misalign when you edit, break your text into individual stories for each section. Editing will then cause either an overset at the end of the section/story (in which case you can add a page or pages, or it will shrink away from the end of the last page leaving blank space. In Either case, your section starts will remain on the page where they are supposed to be.

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and HP Officejet J6450 All in One

I need to print an image (house blueprint), enlarged over 4 pages. I see no option anywhere to do this. HP technical support sent me through a download process for portions of HP Photo Studio software, which successfully installed. I could then use that to select a "Poster" option. Sent it to the printer (one page to print enlarged to 4), and lost all communication with my printer. I no longer could print anything at all. So I deleted the HP photo studio software, STILL couldn't use my printer, deleted ALL my printer drivers, unplugged my printer, plugged it back in, and started all over re-installing the fax, wireless and hard-wired printer drivers. Now I can at least print single pages normally again. Apparently the download was for Leopard 10.5 but I have no idea if that was the problem.
Does anyone know how to make a HP Officejet J6450 print an enlarged image over multiple pages using Snow Leopard?
    Thankyou!

Hi kjbowler & welcome to discussions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
...it it will work using HP stuff exclusively w/SL, this is the only way to proceed.
    I don't see why you can't just print @ 400% tho...

  • FCP 7 on Snow Leopard - Quicktime gamma shift!

i am running Snow Leopard 6.0.2 and Final Cut Studio 3 in a 2008 2.8GHz Mac Pro Quad Core. My monitors are two 23" Apple Cinema Displays, both calibrated to a gamma value of 2.2.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard i have noticed, that when exporting a Quicktime movie, color corrected using the canvas, the output file, opened with Quicktime X or 7 looks washed out. When i compare the output file with the picture in the canvas there is a big shift.
i currently do not have the budget for a professional Broadcast monitor, so i need to rely, to a certain extent on my Apple Cinema Display.
i have searched far and wide for a solution, but have been frustrated immensely.

However, when I try to download Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard, it tells me I cant install because Quicktime X is already present.
When you say "Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard" are you referring to the normal QT 7 download page or the special "QuickTime Player 7.6.6 for Mac OS X v10.6.3" download page? Snow Leopard requires a special version of the QT 7 Player that gets installed in the "Applications > Utilities" folder.

  • Upgraded to snow leopard, now safari scrolls a page down when space bar is hit and sometimes crashes.  Any ideas for a fix?

I just upgraded to the new snow leopard, now my Safari is acting loopy.  At times, the page will scroll down when I hit the space bar.  As I type this discussion the screen isn't paging down, but if I go to the tab where I have facebook loaded and hit the space bar, it acts as a page down key.  I've had safari crash about 5 times tonight for no apparent reason.  The delete key sometimes will act as a page back key.  I really have no idea whats going on.
I've had keyboards go wacko on me before due to something being spilled on them or a wireless problem, but this keyboard is a wired keyboard and nothing was spilled on it.  It's rather new and I'm quite certain it's not a keyboard issue.
No settings have been changed on the computer.  The only thing different today from yesterday, is the fact that I upgraded to snow leopard.
    Help would be pretty sweet.
    Thanks,
    Jason
