Work and Home Calendars

This may have been covered before but I could not find it so ... I have a home calendar and a work calendar. Both are outlook. While I dont mind if the home one syncs boths ways (pc to iphone and iphone to pc) I would like to ONLY sync one way on the work computer (PC to iphone). Can I do this and how? Thanks in advance.

Howdy johnnedwards,
The Maps and Calendars applications gets its information on where your "Home" or "Work" addresses are from the contents of your card in the Contacts application.
Contacts (Yosemite): Map addresses
This article tells how to set up a card that the computer identifies with you on your Mac -

  • Work and home locations wrong in calendar?

I am using calendar in Yosemite.
When I enter a location for a calendar event, you can set travel time. It either uses the location of your previous event, or your home or work address in your contact info, based on what time of day it is.
Until today I had no problems. Now it seems however that calendar changes the locations of work and home. It picks locations quite near the destination at random, but per event. So the start-location changes per destination, but remains the same for that destination if it reappears on later dates. In the contacts app, both work and home addresses are filled in correctly.
Anyway, this causes travel times to be way of and therefore notifications can be timed wrong also. And instead of getting the right route when I quickly on my phone I have to change the start address which is a hassle.
    Anybody else seen this behavior?

I have the exact same problem. When selecting "Home" as the location for an event on Calendar, it suggests the correct home address (as it listed in my contacts). As soon as I choose this, though, it swaps the address to one near to my home - the same house number, and a similar street name and postcode, but clearly not my home address.
So yes, I'm seeing basically the same behaviour that you are...I just wish I had a way of resolving it!

  • Two iCloud accounts for work and home?

On my iPad2, I have a home email account and a work email account and work calendar.  If I set up a second (work) user account on the family iMac, can I have two iCloud accounts to keep work and home separate? I would like to share  pictures, home emails, etc with my wife's iPad and iPhone, but not share the work email and work calendar.   Will I be able to have both iCloud accounts share with my iPhone 4s and iPad? For now, I am using a google calendar for work on the iPad2 and sync it to Google.

That's not a problem, you can create a second account from system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars, click on the small plus icon in the bottom left corner, choose iCloud from the list of options, click on the 'create Apple ID' button and follow the rest of the instructions.
Note however, a secondary account has all the features of a primary account apart from photos stream and Back to My Mac, only your primary account can use these features.

  • Keeping work and home stuff separate

At home I use iCal, Apple mail, Contacts and Mobile Me. It all works great with my iPhone.
At work, we use Exchange and the latest MS Office on Windows.
I'd like to get my iPhone to talk and sync to the Exchange server so I can see my work calendar from my iPhone.
BUT for all sorts of reasons I don't want my work calendar and home calendar getting mixed up together. Likewise for contacts and mail.
If I go into Mail on the iPhone, it gives me the option to add an Exchange account but I read somewhere that if you set up an iPhone for Exchange you can't do anything else with it.
I wouldn't mind if the Exchange calendar ended up as a calendar category in Mobile Me which then synced to the iPhone, but I can't see how to do this.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Andrew

If ActiveSync is enabled at the Exchange server, you can access your Exchange account with Push access for recieved messages, and this provides for over the air syncing for contacts and calendar events with the Exchange server. You can access a MobileMe account with over the air syncing for your MM contacts and calendar events at the same time with an Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync. You can view the contacts and calendar events combined with each account, or seperately with each account. The email account with each is accessed seperately.

  • Delete work and home categories

How do you delete the home and work categories. I have a main category with my name and several sub categories. Every time I go into iCal there are two new categories called work and home. How can I delete them for ever.
    Thanks for your help.

Had the same problem this morning after updating to 10.8.2. Mail was finding my dot-mac account as always, but System Preferences popped up and said my iCloud password was incorrect. Did the "forgot password" reset, but still had the same problem. Then I went to icloud.com in Safari, logged in with the new password, it worked no problem. So I went back to the icloud preference pane, signed out of icloud, answered yes to all the warnings about data being deleted from my mac, blah blah blah, then re-signed in to icloud. Everything worked. I did have to set up my icloud account in Mail again, which now lists the account mailbox as "iCloud", and not "mac.com" as it did before. But so far, everything is working (fingers crossed.)

  • Working: moving between work and home

I am in the process of writing my PhD thesis and I hate lugging my macbook pro home every night. What would you recommend as the optimal setup so that I can transfer data between work and home with minimal things to take back and forth? Thanks!

Do you have another Mac at home? If so, you may want to consider using Time Capsule as a Base Station and MobileMe. According to http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/wireless.html
Access your drive over the Internet.
Say you’re traveling and you need a file on your Time Capsule back at home. If you’re a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, no problem. You can access all the files on your Time Capsule drive over the Internet. Simply register your Time Capsule with your MobileMe account, and its drive appears in the Finder sidebar of your Mac just like any other attached drive. It’s like having your own personal file server wherever you go.
This sound great but this had lead me to post the following "MBP, Time Machine / Capsule as a Base Station, MobileMe, and PGP? " (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2621954&tstart=0)
If that question gets solved and is a route you might consider, then it would be good to be aware of "How to do a full system restore from encrypted Time Machine volume" (http://forum.pgp.com/t5/PGP-Whole-Disk-Encryption-for/How-to-do-a-full-system-re store-from-encrypted-Time-Machine/m-p/26837). This is not an immediately intuitive process, but the folks here seem to have it worked out.
Optionally, if you did not want to bother with MobileMe, I think you can just use Time Capsule through a rather speedy Ethernet connection to your Mac at work. Addtionally, you can add additional drives to TM, if you require more data redundancy.
I am guessing that it might be worthwhile to have multiple backups of a PhD thesis, with backups in more than one physical location. So, if this looks appealing and it actually works for your requirements, then you could likely have choice to:
    1) Just access work from other Mac via MobileMe
    2) Take TM home every night
    3) Take attached drive to TM home every night

  • ITunes at work and home

I authorized Itunes at work and home. I am trying to sync to my iphone.
The issue is I bought 5 songs from home and synced them fine. Then I came to work and bought 3 more songs and when I went to sync the iphone again it said it had to erase all my iphone content and then sync the songs.
Why can't it just add the 3 songs to my 5 songs and not delete the whole thing? Then I'll just be left with the 3 songs from work even though I bought 8.
    Iphone 1.0   Windows XP Pro

The iPhone does not support manual synchronization. Use a hard or flash disk to transfer the files from one computer to the other, or if that isn't an option, use a service such as email or web storage to transfer them.

  • What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans withiTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Taking my mail back-and-forth between work and home?

Which file/folder can I backup to a jump drive so I can have the same mail on my work and home macs?
    Thanks.

    yes, that's correct.
com.apple.mail.plist does not seem to exist on my mac?
make sure you are looking in the right place. It's Library/Preferences in your home folder not at the root level of your hard drive.
If you are using Mail, the file is definitely there.

  • Change Open File Work and Home Directories

Is it possible to change the Open File Work and Home Directories (buttons on the left)?

FWIW, I'd love to see this too. It'd be quite useful in other products as well.. ;)
It is actually possible to programmatically extend the list of shortcuts in this dialog, so someone could in theory write an extension for SQL Developer to add support for user customizable buttons. Seems like a nice project if someone is bored ;)
    The API in question is:
    oracle.ide.dialogs.DialogUtil.registerShortcutButton( Icon, String, URL )
    Thanks,
    Brian
(updated to point to the correct API...)

  • Docking at work and home

Is it possible to setup two docking stations, one at work, the other at home?
If so, how does sync work for two different stations?
E.g. I've song A at work, and song B at home, after sync, would the iPhone has song A & B?

The iPhone can only sync iTunes media (music, videos, apps) with one computer. Connecting to another computer and attempting to sync music, etc. will result in the current contents of the iPhone being deleted and replaced with content from the other computer.
You can sync contacts, calendars, and bookmarks with multiple computers, and change from multiple computers.
