Work Around for Running Color w/Graphics Card that has 64mb VRAM?

Before upgrading to Leopard I was able to run Color in Tiger on my Powermac G5 that has a video card with only 64mb VRAM (see specs at bottom). Now I am in a bit of a crunch and have some footage that was shot using auto white-balance that I'm hoping Color will help me fix by using it's auto color correction feature. (I have pure white objects in the background, so I don't think it should be that difficult to auto color correct every frame, just processor intensive) When I open up Color in Leopard it gives me the message: "Color recommends that your system have 128mb of VRAM; this system has only 64MB of VRAM." Anyways I was wondering if there was some sort of work-around so I could just jump in and get this project done in Color and out the door. I don't have the time to go out and find out where to purchase my next graphics card. Also, if there is any other application, or plug-in for Final Cut Studio 2 that might be able to help me do auto-color correction I would appreciate any suggestions. (yes, I can keyframe the whole video in final cut's 3 way color corrector but that would take forever since the white balance changes ever 3 seconds.)

The Auto function in Color, like in FCP, is static. It doesn't continuously analyze the image making continuous changes.
I don't have any other suggestions for you other than to keyframe (either in FCP or Color).

Encounted a very major bug today that I need to figure out how to get around asap as it's completely preventing me from doing any work.
Whenever I edit any text - be it editing an existing text layer, or with a new one, whatever text is there just randomly and without warning disappears. Doesn't matter wether I'm changing the color, font, font size or any other type settings. Sometimes I just move the mouse while in editing mode and the text just vanishes.
Made a video of the bug in action. Virtual keyboard on screen so you can see that I'm not hitting any keys to make the text disappears. Today is the first day I noticed this issue and I have absolutely no idea what is causing it but it happens 99.9% of the time that I try editing any text. Latest version of Photoshop, CC, OS X etc.

Please advise, I really need to get it figured out as soon as I can - as you can imagine impossible to do any sort of work without being able to type a single character.

The bug is in the dictation code in MacOS. We are not ignoring the problem - but we cannot fix bugs in Apple's OS code.

If it was a bug in Apple's dictation code, every other program with text entry would be affected.

Work around for radio tuner service not working

A work around for the lack of radio tuner service that has appearently hit Itunes versions lower than 11.
We all hope that Apple will restore Radio Tuner Service for us legacy products users soon, but I've been thrown under the bus more than once by Apple in the last 25 yrs to put much hope in that (I started with an Apple III w/a Z80 card running C/PM, yeah I'm that old)
Have your iTunes and your favorite browser open.
In your browser go to http://vtuner.com/setupapp/guide/asp/BrowseStations/startpage.asp
This will give you a list of Genre's, etc of streaming internet stations.
When you select a genre you'll get a list of stations that shows station ID, what type of feed codec and data rate.
Select any of the AAC or MP3 feeds.
Select play.
This will send a small download file to your computer containing the selected feeds URL.
Your computer will ask what app to use to open the file, select iTunes.
This will automatically open a file called Internet Songs at the end of Playlists in iTunes (if you don't already have one), and will install the URL there.
All the stations you selected will now be permanently stored in Internet Songs.
Viola, your very own custom personal internet radio playlist!

Apperently iTunes 11 is not affected (Apple stil makes iTunes11 for the 14 yr old Microsoft XP OS, but not for anything PPCs can run. Go figure)

On 9.2.1/10.4.11 differences, some time in the past someone selected 'save file' and checked the box 'don't ask again' on your computers dialog box. That's why you're not given a choice wih the file downloads. I would think that selection should be able to be reversed.
iTunes 9.2.1/OS10.4.11 puts those downloaded URLs into the Music Libary of iTunes, no matter if it's opened directly, or you click on the file on your desktop. You can create a new playlist, highlight the selection in the Music Libary, and drag it to your new playlist to keep alll the steaming URLs together. NOTE, this only creates an alias, the URL copied by iTunes must remain in the Music Libary. You can then delete the the files on the desktop, if you want. I did multiple stations this way in 9.2.1, they all show in either the new playlist created, or in the Music Libary, and remain after the desktop files are deleted and trash emptied.
You can switch sations by double clicking them. Another note, all the URLs were all from vtune.

Upgrading to iMac 5K or Mac Pro. Is there a list of Graphics Cards that are optimized for Premier Pro CC?

A couple of years ago I remember Adobe listed Graphics Cards that were optimized to work best with Rendering in Premier Pro and other applications. I have Creative Cloud so I have access to latest versions.
The iMac 5K Retina has a choice of AMD Radeon R9 M290X and M295X.
The Mac Pro has Options of AMD FirePro d300, D500 etc.
Does anyone have any idea where I can find out what graphic cards are optimized for Premier Pro an other applications from Adobe?

If you are not in the 4K business --> I would go for the 32 GB & 27" iMac w/o Retina, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M mit 4 GB GDDR5 (CUDA support) will give you quite a good performance, i.e. with a Thunderbolt connected Raid6 system your 2K projects (including some color correction and other plugins) will work well and you can even use the system as 4k starter/test system.
If you in the 4K business you could use a full blown iMac Retina system with a GPU AMD Radeon R9 M295X mit 4 GB GDDR5 together with an already mentioned TB Raid6 system. As described from the forum-compatriots, this non-CUDA card doesn't perform too well on GPU accelerated functions of PPro --> but --> search this forum... you will be surprised....some workflows are nearly unaffected....
If you are in the high end 4K footage busine$$ and you apply a lot of external color correction to your 4k footage (e.g. BM DaVinci) I would go for a MPro with 2 D700 cards.

Supported motherboards for GTX 750 Ti graphics cards

I currently have an older HPE 410T desktop with an OEM'd MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) motherboard (6.12 BIOS) and a 300 watt PSU. Is it compatible with any of the MSI GTX 750 Ti graphics cards? (The HP forum suggested the MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 Ti and the MSI GTX 750 TF might work.) If not, which MSI graphics cards are compatible with the system?
Alternatively, I'm considering purchasing an HP Envy 700-215xt with a Memphis-B motherboard and a 300 watt PSU. Is that system compatible with any of the MSI GTX 750 Ti graphics cards?
The reviews I've read indicate the GTX 750 Ti only requires a 300 watt PSU, however all of the MSI GTX 750 Ti graphics cards indicate they require a 400 watt PSU. Is that correct? That is, am I going to have to replace the 300 watt PSU to run an MSI GTX 750 Ti graphics card?

Yes, you will need to upgrade your PSU. The Watt rating although recommended is just a guideline, what is important is the 12V rail Amps. So ensure you get a good quality single 12V rail supply with 20A+ on the 12V rail. And that is valid for any 750 Ti card not only MSI. The amps specified mean total for a typical system with this card. The reviews you may have read may refer to the power draw for the card itself only.
As for compatibility with your board, you will have to ask the HP support as this forum focuses on pure MSI products and not OEM. In principle it should work but if that board does not have PCIE 2.0 slots at least, then i.t may not work.

Which Macs have graphics cards that are specifically designed to work best with CS6?

I'm currently using a late-2009 24" iMac but it just isn't robust enough for some of the the programs included in CS6 (After Effects, Premiere Pro, for example). I'm planning to buy a new Mac, but I would like to know if there is one or more that has/have graphics cards that are specifically designed to work well with CS6, and if not, were I to purchase a Mac Pro, would I be able to replace the factory graphics card with an after-market card that does? MSI GT60 Always Runs On Integrated Graphics Card

Hello everyone. Not sure if this question was asked before. But i cant get my new laptop to run on nvidia graphics. Was playing Heroes of Newerth today and realised i was getting 45 fps only. So i lowered the graphics. The fps raised up to 80. I didnt think the gtx770M should be this weak so:
i disabled the integrated graphics from device manager and re-ran the game. This time fps was awfully less. Like 10-15 fps.
I disabled nvidia graphics to make it run on integrated graphics. Re-ran thegame again i got like 80 fps. So im pretty sure the computer is running on integrated graphics card.
I configured stuff on nvidia control panel. Set preferred gpu to Nvidia Graphics Processor. Still it doesnt seem to help. Fps is around the same level.
I reinstalled the drivers from the laptops own cd. No help either. I also did a clean install. So its not about the installation either.
Couldnt find any way to change the default gpu on bios. The laptop also came with windows 8 64 bit
The system is -
i7-4700mq processor
Nvidia gtx770M gpu with 3gb memory.
16 gb 1600 mhz ddr3 ram
250 gbsuperraid ssd. 750 gb 7200 rpm for storage
Anyone else experienced the same problem? Or anyone knows how to fix this?

Work around for User ID 32 character limitation in CCX Agent?

Are there any kind of creative work arounds for getting past the ridiculous 32 character limit when logging into the CCX Agent?
We are moving toward using the User Principal Name (UPN) in CUCM LDAP which means that the domain is now tacked onto the end of their existing User IDs. We are doing this so that users from multiple domains can authenticate to various Cisco tools and apps. It works very well, except when firing up the Agent!
I've already been playing around with UPN suffixes, and while I can get them to show up in CUCM (and subsequently), I can't seem to get them to authenticate.
I shouldn't even have to get this creative, just remove the 32 character limit, Cisco!

On page 78, it is mentioned as,
Caution : When logging into Cisco Agent Desktop, agents use the Unified CM user ID and password. While the Unified CM limits agent IDs to 128 alphanumeric characters, the Unified CCX limits agent IDs to 31 alphanumeric characters. Be sure to abide by the 31 character-limit when configuring agents in Unified CM.
I am sure even if it works by some workarounds also, you may see some issues specially from the CAD\CSD\CDA side, which Cisco will not support it quoting the same above reason.

Work around for Excel's array formulae?

I have an Excel spreadsheet which I have built over many years to manage maintenance tasks of my boat. I would like to convert this to run on Numbers. Unfortunately I can't find a work-around for Excel's "Array Formulas".
The column headers of my spreadsheet contain maintenance tasks (plus data on how frequently by days or engine hours these jobs need to done). When I complete a maintenance task, I log the date and engine hours in a new row with an "x" to signify that the job is done. Excel then looks up the date/engine hours when each job was last done (ie the lowest "x") and then uses conditional formatting to highlight the column headers of which jobs are overdue. Is there a work around for this in Numbers?

Some made-up dates.
If you have multiple x's in a column, change all but the most recent to "Done" or something other than x This approach looks for the date in Column A that matches a single x in a task column.
This example works on years. I hope you change your oil and filter more often .
One Header Row and four Footer Rows. Enter Years between services (D9) from the keyboard.
To find the date of the last service (the only x in Column D)
D10 contains this formula:
=INDEX($A,MATCH("x",D,0))
You can Fill Right to other columns.
"Years since" (D11) contains this formula:
=YEAR(TODAY())-YEAR(D10)
"Alert" (D12) contains this formula:
=IF(D11>D9,"Hey, You!", "OK")
Conditional Formatting in D12 sets the text to red if it equals "Hey, You!"
It would be best to combine these steps into one complex formula. Numbers is slowed down with each Header or Footer in a Table.

Work Around for a Panasonic AJ-D750 deck

I recently upgraded to FCP 5 from 4.5. Since the upgrade I can not digitize from my Panasonic AJ-D750 DVC Pro deck, RS422 connection. Does anyone know a work around for this? Any information would be great!

Hi, I had the exact problem with a Panasonic AJD950 deck. This is the response I got from Brian Conner
" I wonder if this is caused by the deck polling problem that FCP5 brought about. FCP5 doubled the amount of deck polling it does during pre-roll and Panasonic decks don't like that.
A couple of my support clients use a plug-in that Aja tech support passed on to me. The plug returns polling to pre-FCP5 levels. I think the plug was written by Panasonic.
Try contacting Panasonic tech support to see if that's the case. "
and thankfully he saved me from another two months of capturing films in 3min segements.
I managed to find the disable polling file from someone on another forum and I haven't had the problem since. Maybe you could try to google it, or contact Aja, otherwise, if you still can't find it, I can email it to you (as far as I am aware it works with all capture cards, we have Blackmagic).

Restored my ipad 1 and lost kindle access due to update. Is there a work around for this?

Not sure that you fully searched the Amazon Kindle site. They tell you how to download a 5.1.1-compatible version of the Kindle App if you have not previously done so:
Important: iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices with iOS 6.0 or later are able to download the latest version of the Kindle reading app. If your device is running iOS 5.0 and you previously downloaded the Kindle application using the Apple account that is associated with your device, you will have the option of downloading a version of the Kindle application that is compatible with iOS 5.0. If you've never downloaded the Kindle application using the Apple account that is associated with your device and you want to download a version that is compatible with iOS 5.0, you'll need to first get the latest available version of the application on your Apple account, using the iTunes Store from your computer.
So, download the current Kindle version to iTunes, then, according to this paragraph, you will then have the option of downloading the 5.x compatible version. I would imagine that if you have issues getting the 5.x version after downloading the current version, you can contact Amazon support to get help. They have always been helpful for me.

Work around for iTunes not working with shuttle

Well, I have found a work around for the iTunes not working the the Shuttle. It is not pretty, and many of you may not choose to follow my lead. This procedure has a lot of dumb steps in it, but in the end, one can copy data/songs to a Shuttle.
It involves removing the current iTunes and replacing it with a version that also had a bug in it.( I told you it ain't pretty).
Procedure:
1. Go to this url: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
2. Download the old 8.0 version of iTunes for Windows.
3. Remove the current iTunes from your computer. Note after you run the remove utility in Windows, you need to delete the iTune library that isn't removed.
4. Install iTunes 8.0
Here is where it gets dumb.
This version of iTunes has a bug with the USB interface, but there is an easy work around.
5. Make sure the Shuttle is not connected when you launch iTunes.
6. After iTunes comeup, attach the Shuttle.
7. iTunes should see your Shuttle.
8. Select the music you want to upload, and drag it to the Shuttle.
9. iTunes will just sit there, so you need to get its attention. To get its attention you must disconnect and reconnect one of your USB devices, just not the Shuttle. Some folks do their mouse, one used a USB drive, and another on used is GPS because he was working from a laptop and did not have a mouse.
10. In a few moments, iTunes will do its thing and copy your data to the Shuttle. You must do this routine for each copy, so if you develop a Play List, you only have to do step 9 once.
The getting the old copy of iTunes was my idea, but a gentleman from a year ago figured out the mouse step.
I am now a happy camper, my Shuttle is full of music again.
However, I hope Apple finds a fix for the 8.2 problem soon.

I stand corrected on the name. By the time I figured out how to copy the songs I had a few other names in mind.
One of the first things I tried was the Reset utility. After the iTunes restore did not work, I went looking for something else. After using the utility, I connected the iPod and resynced. I had left the Autofill box checked. iTunes autofilled the iPod. I deleted those songs and tried to put a different play list in. It would not copy the songs, iTunes said there was no room even though the play list for the shuffle was empty. I looked at the settings screen and it said the iPod was full. I synced the iPod to my Mac, and that got rid of the "full" indication. That is when I started looking for an older version of iTunes, unfortunately all I could find is a version with the USB bug.

Server 2003 R2 sp2 on IBM T42: is there a work-around for getting bluetooth to work?

I have seen a few forums here and there talking about possible work-arounds for the lack of a bluetooth stack in server 2003, and they have not worked.

Installs without compalint, but after reboot, cannot find a bluetooth device. The bluetooth service starts and runs happily.
I found a hack-around solution involving update Q323183 for tricking 2003 into installing a bluetooth stack elsewhere, it also failed to return any results.

i had this working on my T42p back in the day but that was 6 years ago. it installed using the driver from IBM and the MS BT stack. i'm about 95% sure i was using the standard version of 2003 which by default includes a BT stack. enterprise and datacenter do not since there's no logical reason for either one to be running bluetooth due to security risks.

Work around for Application.cfc

I have an Application.cfc file that outputs a header and footer page for every request. That works wonderful but if I try to open a page that is doing a <cfgrid> using a CFC file than I get an error of "Error invoking CFC /GATS/CFC/purchaseOrder.cfc : Internal Server Error [Enable debugging by adding 'cfdebug' to your URL parameters to see more information]" when opening the page.
Commenting out the header/footer include in the Application.cfc file lets the <cfgrid> populate with the CFC file. Is there a fix or work around for this?

That error is due to our application.cfm having a single HTML comment at the
start of the file. Apparently if your Application.cfm or Application.cfc file

I created the examples you posted and commenting out the header/footer lines in my Application.cfc displayed the cfgrid results (updating the query to a table I had). Running the same example code with the header/footer included in the Application.cfc would not show the cfgrid results.
