Work computer won't display songs

Okay, so I have been running my I-pod on my work computer. It was working just fine for months. All of a sudden i plugged in the I-pod and a new name for the I-pod popped up. On top of that, it would not display my songs from my i-pod. They are not greyed out, just a blank list. I tried changing usb ports, removing and re-uploading i-tunes, changing settings, every thing. I have my I-pod on manual song update. The songs are on my i-pod still. Another strange thing is that at the bottom, it says that my i-pod has close to 80 gigs used, which is strange since it is only a 30 gig color i-pod. It stumped my IT guy, former geek squad member. I have tried everything that is obvious. windows recognizes, i-tunes sort of recognizes it, logged in under correct user name.
Sorry about the length.

Yippeee, it works. I talked to couple of people around here. They said that the i-pod had to be plugged into the computer before turning on the computer. I gave it a try and presto!!!!!!!!!! all my music was available. So to the others that run into this problem, give this a try.

  • My work computer won't access songs from iTunes Match

Here's what happened: I started using iTunes Match about a month ago. I had a 7500+ song library on my Hewlett Packard Windows 7 64bit laptop. I did the matching process and about 3000 songs were unmatched. Match started to upload them and it took forever (I have a slow internet connection at home), so I took a hint from a poster at Apple Support and copied my library to a portable disk which I brought to my office. I tried to get the iTunes on my work computer to recognize the library on the portable disk, but couldn't do it, so I copied the whole library to my hard drive at work, reinstalled iTunes, and it recognized the new library. It then uploaded all my songs in an hour or two.
Then, I decided I didn't want my whole library to be taking up tens of GB of space on my office computer, so I deleted the music portion of the iTunes Media folder--I figured, it will all be available via streaming from iTunes Match, right? Well, it wasn't. Now when I log onto iTunes, all but a very small number of songs are unavailable: they are listed as being in the Library, but when I click on them to stream them, I get the error message "The song "x" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" If I click "Yes", I am taken to the local music library on the work computer, which contains next to nothing.
I have deleted and re-installed iTunes. No help. I have turned off Match and turned it back on. No help. I have updated Match. Nothing.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong and how to get my work computer iTunes to stream my Match results?

Figured it out! All you have to do is select all songs (from the Edit menu), right click on them and "delete" them. You won't actually delete them, they're still there in the cloud, but now the little download cloud symbol appears and I can stream all my music at work.
One warning--if the cloud download symbol is already there, don't delete the song. Just go through after selecting the songs and de-select any song with a cloud symbol next to it, otherwise it will be deleted from the cloud, too.
I figured this out all on my own with no help from Apple. Typical.

  • IPod won't display songs in MyMusic folder; can't copy songs to iPOd

I formatted my HD. I copied the library of the iPod back onto the computer into MyMusic. However my iPod won't display any of the songs that I recopied onto the computer. I was forced to reformat the iPod. My song library is in MyMusic the whole time but the iPod won't display any of it. How can I get my iPod to display the songs in MyMusic? I can't copy the songs onto the iPod as the songs are already in MyMusic.

Yes. I can see it there and play it as well...I just can't get it to transfer to my ipod from the itunes library. And it only happened with a few songs and I don't know what I did to make it so that it only trasferred to my library and not my ipod. But it is playable and viewable in my library and only when it is connected. Otherwise only the songs that are already on my ipod are viewable.
    Does that make sense?
Let me know if it doesn't
    Thanks so much

  • Ipod won't display song info under "Now Playing"

I searched for this, but couldn't find an answer. My 60GB IPOD works fine, plays fine and displays info (and movies, photos, etc.) correctly in all areas except the "Now Playing" screen, at which point it won't display any info (song title, artist, album art, etc.)
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

  • Dock gone, minimize doesn't work, computer won't respond to "shut down"....

First of all, I'm surely not a computer expert by any means, but one morning when I turned on my computer (iBook) trouble erupted as follows:
Once I logged on, the desktop picture was changing pictures every 2 seconds. I changed it to not switch pictures anymore.
I have my dock on hide at the bottom of the screen and when I went to retrieve it with my mouse, it would not pop up. I figured a restart was in order, but when I clicked on the apple and hit "restart", nothing happened. I clicked on "shut down", but again nothing happened. I also noticed that none of my windows would "minimize" when I hit the minimize button at the top left of the windows. I double-clicked the top of the window and the minimize tab would flash, but the window did not change.
I then noticed that none of my hot corners worked, so I opened up system preferences/dashboard & expose and noticed all my hot corner settings were blank. When I tried to reset them, it would show for a second and then disappeared, but would not take the setting.
One or two things on the fritz would be allright, but all these things tell me something must be seriously wrong?
I've read and read, but still haven't seen anything like this. Do I have to do a backup and re-install of Tiger or does anyone have any ideas that I could try before I go through all that? Any help would be appreciated!

First of all, you should be able to force it to shut down by holding the power button until the screen goes black and it is not in sleep (takes ~5 seconds).
When you boot up again, try checking your library (YOUR USER NAME>Library>Preferences>com.apple.systempreferences.plist
It's hard to interpret, but it might have gotten deleted.
Also check the finder preferences (Library>Preferences>com.apple.finder.plist.
If the library doesn't have much in it, it's possible it was deleted.
Unless you had a backup, you can't recover it.
If the library is still full, and your preferences for other applications are still the same, it's possible that you need to take your mac in for a checkup.
This probably won't help with your specific issue, but it is a good app to have to manage Finder/System. It is called OnyX, and you can get it here.

  • New HP Pavilion computer won't display most thumbnails on internet

I have HP Pavilion p6-2120 PC. Product number 00359-OEM-8992687-00010. Running Windows 7.
Thumnails in Elements 10 work okay. But can't display thumbnails or small pictures on NY Times slideshow, the 3 headlines under main photo of NY Post, thumbnails and some smaller pictures on websites. This has not worked since Day 1. Computer installed at Staples where I bought it. Maybe they got a setting wrong.

    Hi,
As the first page you linked to has a lot of copy protected images, try the following.
Close any open Internet Explorer windows.
Open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click on Java(TM) and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the PC.
When windows has reloaded install the latest version of Java from the following link.
    http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp
When the installation has completed, restart the PC again and when first launching Internet Explorer, if you get a prompt to enable the plug-in, select to do so.
Check if this has made any difference.

  • Ipod 80Gb - 5 R's haven't worked, computer won't recognise, please help.

    Hey there kindly folk,
I've read through posts on this and other sites and tried what feels like hours worth of solutions but I'm at my wits end. Here's the details, hope someone can help.
    1) Have 80GB classic Ipod.
    2) All has been working fine for months ...
    3) Recently plugged it in to sync and Windows Vista popped up a screen saying something like 'drive is corrupted' and asked me if I wanted to repair it. I said yes, nothing much happened.
    4) Since then, neither Itunes, nor my computer, will recognise my ipod.
    5) Have checked device manager, it's not there. Even after multiple resets and switching to other USB ports.
    6) Have tried the '5 R's' with no success.
    7) Have updated all vista and itunes software. No success.
    7) Have tried putting it into disk mode. Got it into disk mode but computer still wouldn't recognise it.
    8) Now the battery has drained and it won't charge. When I try to reset the ipod it's screen shows a yellow ! point and says 'connect to power'. As the computer doesn't seem to recognise it exists, it won't power up. Have left it plugged in for hours, with no success.
So, I guess the question is - what now? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers!

Have you got an AC power adapter? They used to be shipped with ipod, and I still got mine from the 3rd gen one.
You DO need that to fully recharge ipod. An apple store will either sell you one or even perhaps charge it for you.
Should they exchange it, the IFRST thing, you must do is plug into the AC charger, PRIOR to connecting it to computer. For some reason, apple do recommend a FULL AC charge first.
    Good luck

  • Please help!  i tunes won't display song list or artist ??

have 2 identical new computers and have installed itunes on both. One computer will open the cd automatically but does not display the artist and songs. The other computer automatically opens the cd and displays both the titles and artist. I must have a setting wrong on my one computer somewhere but have no idea where to look. I have un installed and re installed i tunes a few times but the settings never change. I have put both as my default player but still no luck. Please help!

Thanx for responding vdub, I deleted I tunes because I made the mistake of importing all of my music for a second time after adding all of my music to my new external hard drive and what happened, was, that created duplicates of almost all of my files and triples and quads of a whole lot of them. After spending 2 days trying to manually delete the duplicates and barely putting a dent in it, I decide it would be easier to just delete everything and just start over, well apparently that was a bad idea because now I've been trying to reinstall itunes for about a week with no success. Also retrieving it from the recycle bin is not an option because, of course, I emptied the bin. I'm lost,....

  • New computer won't take songs from ipod, how to register new computer?

My hard drive crashed, I had to buy a new one. All my songs were on my old drive. Except for what is in my ipod. I bought a new hard drive, but haven't had the $$ to have files removed from old drive yet. Installed itunes onto new drive, plugged in Ipod and it says it will either replace all 400 songs from my pod with the 1 song in my new itunes, or it can only take itunes purchased songs from my pod, which is only about 5% of my songs on my pod at the moment. How do I register my new pod to my new harddrive??? Help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • ITunes won't display song names

Every time I put in a new CD to import it only lists the songs as "track 1". How do I fix this? Thanks

Well make sure there store bought CDs as thats the only CDs it goes out on the net and pulls info up on, if there personally made CDs it won't. Also some store bought CDs they do not have listed in the database.
If its doing this on every single store bought CD u have, especailly popular CDs, check your firewall and antivirus and make sure there not blocking iTUnes, or some internet accelerater u have

I have my Apple ID on my work computer (mac) iTunes. I have no problem playing DRM stuff (beause it's authorized).
But I can't seem to make a purchase on my Work computer. All the songs have little EMPTY DOTTED CIRCLES next to them.
I've double-checked that I am signed in (I am) and that the credit card, etc, info is 100% right (it is).
I seem to remember being able to do this before: purchase a song or album at work, on my Applple ID, and have it download here at work, AND when I get home.
    Is this no longer possible?
    Am I doing something wrong?
PS, my internet connection is in good shape, lol.
