Work Environment To Boot Caseless Comp?

hey folks!
i'm building my first opteron system (KT8 Master 2 FAR). i have all the parts already except for the processors themselves, the power supply, the cd rom drive, and a few misc. cables.
i don't have a case at this point in time. i plan on building my own, and i don't mean modifying off the shelf parts.
that's my most specific question:
how can i test the unit to make sure it boots and runs, etc, before i build the case? it can't be safe to plug in all the components and turn on the juice while the things are sitting there on a counter or table? it's going to be a while before the case is done. what sort of environment would i need to boot outside the box without shorting out the computer or my own nervous system?

i had to run my a64 system caseless for a while and managed no probs. i put the mobo on the anti static bag it came in, on top of the box it came in. The mobo box raised the mobo enough so the agp/pci cards didn't cause the board to tilt at an angle.
Make sure the fans don't have any cables near them, it's easy to mis-route stuff and get a wire caught in the blades. Also, since there is no case, there is nothing to screw the pci cards into, i found they were able to move about quite a bit which isn't good for the cards or board. Plus if they're not seated properly you could get stability probs. My TV card experienced some interference issues without a case but that's not too big a problem.
Provided you take care, running caseless should not pose any probs.

Is there a way to set all users on your system to have the same working environment? I believe, as root you can edit the /etc/profile. But when I looked at the file, I was confused. I had no idea where to add stuff because it was a script.

It's not clear what you understand under system wide working environments ?
/etc/profile it's one possible solution.
Another way - put custimozed .profile to all users and use customezed */etc/skel* for new users.

Won't boot from CD (SuperDrive works normally when booted from hard drive)

I have an iMac G5, 1.8GHz, running OS X 10.3.9. Recently the machine has been behaving poorly (freezing up in various programs -iTunes, Safari, etc). I wanted to run my utility software (TechTool and Disk Warrior) to optimize the drive, etc. When I went to reboot from the CD the machine would hang up with the light grey screen and spinning do-hickey.
This happened with multiple CDs (TechTool, Disk Warrior, and my OS X Panther install disk).
I tried the following:
Selecting the CD as the boot disk from the System Preferences - same result.
Holding "C" as I started up - same result.
Holding "option" - got "choice" screen as normal, but then got same result.
Even tried Command-option-O-F and selected the CD as the boot disk in Open Firmware. - Same result.
I am in the middle of moving so my other Mac (iMac G3) is not available for troubleshooting.
The computer (G5) will boot from the internal HD. The CD drive works normally once booted up. BUT, I want to be able to boot from the CD drive to do some maintenance on the HD. Please Help!

You may have to wait till you can access your G3, and then connect the two machines and reformat your G5. I take it you don't have an external drive?
Have you tried unplugging everything and waiting an hour or so, then trying again? Additionally, have you tried resetting the PRAM?In addition, you can reset the SMU.
Try those things and please report back,

The development system contains the Customizing client CUST, the quality assurance system contains the quality assurance client QTST and the production system contains the production client PROD.

I am trying to paste a phone number out of an email in my work environment to the dialing pad of the phone.
When I do that, I receive the error message that I am not allowed to paste work content into a personal application, although I am in the work environment and I have also opened the phone in the work environment.
When the email recognized the phone number "automatically," I am able to call that number.
I am using a Z30 with the software release 10.2.1.2102.

Hmmm go back and sign out and turn off iMessage then after that reset all settings, its not going to delete anything off the phone. After reset all settings. Go back turn imessages on and sign back in.

Adjusting work environment with oracle developer 6.0 running on SCO-UNIX

i've been working on UNIX-WARE 7.1 OS. and i've got some difficulties to adjust work environment, especially with developer. Sometimes, it is crashed during compile, is there anyone having idea to solve my problem. thanks.

I am having the same exact problems, except I'm attempting to put the two on windows 98. I'm a student at California State Univeristy of Sacramento, and this problem does not seem to be rare. If anyone, such as a Oracle employee scanning over this discussion, could explain how to install this combination, and remove it, please help!!!
The teacher suggested installing developer in one home, and oracle in another home. I have yet to try this since I am having problems deleting Oracle off of my computer.

My Enterprise Manager looks exactly the same, as though I have the servername and computer name and login accounts correct (I can connect using Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager using the same username and password as at work, and the server registration name shows up correctly as DATABASE).

This must be an XP Home Edition thing. I ran a port scanner and there's nothing listening on port 1433, even through SQL Server is running and I can connect through Query Analyzer, etc.

Hi. Am using pp cs5 on mac pro - all working fine until this morning when the whole work environment (source clip preview, timeline, media browser - the lot) disappeared off screen and i cant retrieve it. Its all loading up fine as far as i can tell, the menu at the top is there...when i open a dialogue box its just on the edge of the screen so i can see it. Any ideas folks??

First thing that I would do is to Reset the Workspace (Window>Workspace), and choose either a custom, if you created one, or one of the defaults, that installs with PrPro.

I find iMovie just more pleasant on eyes and the workflow.

Mountain Lion only works in Safe Boot

I have a Mac book pro that I bought in June 2009. I installed Mountain Lion and my my computer keeps crashing when I start up. It works in Safe Boot but no other way. I have tried reinstalling ML and still no luck.

Collaborative work environment with JAVA Applet

Helo all, how can I use JAVA Applets to establish a collaborative work environment?
If anyone knows some resources that can help me, I'll be greatfull for him/her.
