Work Folders synchronization issues

We have configured a Work Folders environment with external access aswell as access on internal IP inside of our organization's network (Split DNS). When accessing Work Folders externally an error occurs: "unspecified error 0x80004005", I then
go to control panel and choose Sync now and my files synchronize - this error occurs randomly but doesn't fully prevent us from synchronizing externally. If I click "Sync now" several times it may work approximately 1 out of 5 times.
We are using Reverse Proxy for external access and the Work Folders are configured as a clustered role. Certificate is a public trusted wildcard certificate.

Hi,
Please check if the SSL Certification is configured correctly. By default, client always connect to the server using SSL, which requires the server to have SSL certificate installed and configured.

  • Outlook contacts synchronization issues

I cannot modify a contact in Outlook which has been created for me by Beehive - I get an 'Oracle Beehive Extensions for Outlook, Synchronization Issue, Updating Contact <name>'.
Beehive automatically created contacts, many of whom no longer work with Oracle (they were external contractors), or that I already had in my contacts. Now I have many contacts I don't want and I can't clean this up, since when I try, the next day they are all back again.
I click on the link in the message and it says the cause is "Cannot move, update or delete a contact that was created automatically for the workspace.".
    - but I don't want any of these contacts.
What can I do? - this getting Kafkaesque.

as far I remember, you need to block / delete thus users from the messenger. This is the reason for sync. (in additonal you will receive all directs and pre-set user from the messenger automatically in outlook).
I use an iPhone. what worked for me:
    - Killing the messenger,
    - creating a Outlook sub-folder in contacts ("iPhone").
    - Moved all my valuable contacts from a backup into this folder new folder.
    - set- iTunes to sync with the contacts sub-folder "iPhone"
no more interference of the auto created users from beehive!
This will not work on Blackberries and iPhone that use notifylink! In notifylink the sync folders are pre-set and cannot be modified by the user.
With Rel 2, it is expected that you may make modifications to the auto created users. Wait till Rel 2 (which is expected to be rolled out sometime this calendar year).
    Hope this helps, Daniel

  • Work Folders: An unexpected error occurred 0x80041293

    Hi,
We are using Work Folders and it works for almost all. Since we had a lot of problems with the server complaining about file rights, we have replace the original server. But one user with W8.1 (of about 50) can't make the connection to the new server work,
he gets an error. When I remove the "force" option in the group policy so he can set it up manually, he get's this error:
There was a problem setting up Work Folders. Please try again. (Details: An unexpected error occured. (0x80041293)
When I change him back to the old server, it starts to work again. Environment: Both servers are 2012R2 and the clients are W8.1/W7 and as I wrote earlier, it works for all other clients. I haven't found anything on the www with that error code (am I first
    with this problem?).
    Br Linus Hellsing

Yes, I believe you are the first with this problem.
That error code (SYNC_E_METADATA_STORE_VERSION_MISMATCH) is an indicator that something is wrong with the synchronization database, likely on the file server and not on the client.  The thing that is unusual is that the error indicates the entire database
could not be opened.  Because there is one database per sync share, I would expect all users configured against this sync share to fail in this way, rather than just one user of ~50.
Can you check your server configuration, to identify if you have more than one Sync Share setup on this server?  My thought is that there may be more than one SyncShare configured, which has a DB problem, and for some reason this is the only user being
routed to the problem sync share.
Additionally, check the eventlog on the server.  You can see this by opening 'Event Viewer', and navigating to 'Applications and Services'-->'Microsoft'-->'Windows'-->'SyncShare'-->'Operational'.  If there is an event that looks correlated
to this failure, post its details which may give further hints.

  • Work Folders - Specific Group Policy's that are needed to satisfy domain client security level

    Hi All,
We have Work Folders successfully set up on our domain. A non domain joined client can connect and gain access to their work folder share without issue.
I am now in the process of setting up domain connected laptops that will be used by staff. These laptop will have restrictions on them and the users that logon will not have admin privileges.
The work folder server has the device policies of:
    Encrypt Work Folders
Automatically lock screen, and require a password
We are using Windows 8.1 enterprise clients, with the latest patches. If I turn off the "Automatically lock screen...." policy, a domain user can successfully sync their work. If I turn it back on they get the below error:
"Make sure that your account is an administrator on the PC and that all administrator accounts on this PC have a password."
I have set the group polices that I believe might effect this message, but have yet to get a successful sync. Could someone give me the exact group policies I would need to set for client to meet the security requirements.
    Minimum password length of 6
Autolock screen set to be 15 minutes or less
Maximum password retry of 10 or less

    Hi,
Work Folders provides the two device policies that administrators can control. The policies are enforced on the Windows 8.1 clients before data sync is allowed.
The policy settings are not configurable, and they are enforced on the devices running with Windows 8.1 through the EAS Engine.
Please refer to the article below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Encrypting Work Folders Sync Share on the Server

    Dear Community Members,
I have an issue about "work folders" feature and I wish to share it with you, with the hope of a lead to resolution.
I setup work folders using this guide:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn528861.aspx
everything is working fine but my problem is the sync share which resides on the server side is not encrypted and I need it to be encrypted. apparently it is not encrypted by design and when I encrypt it the clients cannot sync and they get access denied error
    over syncing new items.
it is so kind of you to give me a hint or lead to do this.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Thank you for the update.
There are 2 built-in functions which could help encrypt data - EFS and BitLocker.
There are 2 possible reason why you would like to encrypt data on server side.
    a. Protect data from stolen
If this is the purpose, BitLocker may help as it could help lock drives. It requires a password to unlock so the hard disk which stores the server side data cannot be read without a password.
But you will need to unlock drives so that users could sync their Work Folders.
    b. Protect data from being accessed by server admin
Data are on server side so actually you are trying to limit a lock admin from access data on their computer which is difficult. Local admins always have permission to take ownership of a file or change permission settings. EFS will not work either as it
is for encrypting local files so users should have permission to log onto the server for setting EFS.
A possible workaround is to use a third party application to encrypt a file before put into Work Folder. Some application may help add a password to a folder for protection.

  • Work Folders client setup errors: No prompt for AD credentials & Lockscreen policies not applied.

    Hi everyone.
I've recently set up a test environment for Work Folders (Server 2012 R2). I'm only testing inside my network so no internet access is required. I have encountered two issues:
When setting up a domain-joined client using a GPO everything works fine, except for the lockscreen/password policy settings. If I enable this on the fileserver the sync fails claiming that the PC
doesn't comply with my organization's security policies. This is very weird since Work Folders is responsible for configuring these policies.
There's no Apply GPO option available in the Control Panel item.
When setting up a non-domain-joined client for Work Folders I'm not prompted for AD credentials. The setup fails with the error:
You 're not set up on the server. However, if I open the workfolders URL in Internet Explorer I do
get prompted for my AD credentials.
Here's some details about the environment:
Server 2012 R2 DC. No other GPO's than the work folder GPO.
    DNS alias called workfolders.<domain>.local configured.
Fileserver set up with self-signed certificate (SSC) bound to default website. The certificate is either manually installed on the clients or distributed via the GPO. The certificate is made with server name workfolders.<domain>.local.
Work Folder GPO on client OU:
    - Certificate distribution of SSC
    - Loopback Policy enabled
    - Work Folders enabled with Force automatic setup
Both servers and clients are VMs. Non-domain-joined client logged in as local administrator.
Has anyone else encountered these issues? Can anyone shed some light on how to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance!
    MicaH

Roberto, I don't have a W3SVC1 folder containing log files, so no dice. I did find out through event logs that the account that's used to authenticate is the fileservers' local administrator account! Then I remembered that my local Administrator
accounts' password on my client is the same as on the fileserver (it's a test environment). So I changed the clients local admin password and it finally worked!
I still have issues with the Device Policies, though. Any thought on that subject?
Edit: The issue with the device policies is caused by my testuser not being a local admin on the client. I had adjusted my powerplan settings so I could keep my RDP session to the client open and without admin rights the work folders policies cannot be applied.
Does anyone know how to set these policies using GPO?

  • Remote wipe device configured with Work Folders

I have implemented Work Folders in my environment but I'm not able to figure out how to remote wipe a device that's configured. I found a thread saying Exchange, we have Exchange 2013 but I can't find my computer in the list of devices.

    Hi,
After some researches, Remote wipe: It can be done with Intune or Exchange. Since you have exchange already, then for convenience, I'd like to share the following links with you:

I have attempted re creating the setup using several blog posts including:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2014/03/03/deploying-work-folders-with-ad-fs-and-web-application-proxy-wap.aspx.  Including deleting all WAP rules, deleting and recreating the Relaying Party Trust and obtaining new certificates for the file
    server.
ADFS and WAP are working correctly for our Office 365 federations and on-premise SharePoint, Exchange and other web applications
If I turn ADFS authentication off on the Work Folders server I can successfully connect and setup work folders on a domain joined computer, however as soon as ADFS authentication is enabled I get the above error.

    Hi,
As you expressed, it should be an authentication issue.
I assume it will work by selecting Windows Authentication instead of ADFS in step shows in following picture.
The article also mentioned that the certificate is needed in following computers.
The self-signed AD FS certificate will need to be exported and installed on the following machines in the test environment:
    Work Folders
    Web Application Proxy
    Domain joined Windows 8.1 client
    Non-domain joined Windows 8.1 client
Thus I would like to confirm if certificate is also imported.

  • Error while creating a sync share with Work Folders

    Hi,
While testing with the new Windows 2012 R2 feature, Work folders, I've come across a config error.
In the new sync share wizard, I select the home folder path in the test domain. I select none of the options in the Device Policies page. In the resulting pane, the following error is thrown under the task, Create Device Policies.
"The WS-Management service cannot process the request. The service cannot find the resource identified by the resource URI and selectors."
Is there an additional step before performing the sync share?

  • Getting Undeleted Topic to Appear in Client Working Folders

I'm testing out the Undo Deletion function in RoboSource
Control and am having a little trouble getting an
undeleted/restored topic to appear in RoboHelp HTML. (This is
RoboHelp X5.) After I undelete a topic, I can see it in the
database using RoboSource Control and in the relevant project's
folders on my hard drive using Windows Explorer. However, when I
open the relevant project in RoboHelp HTML, the topic is nowhere to
be found. I tried doing a Get Latest Version and Check Out All, but
neither of these caused the undeleted/restored topic to be visible
from RoboHelp HTML. The only workaround I' ve been able to use is
to import the file back into the project. (I haven't spent any time
to determine whether this will break or courrupt anything in the
    project.)
Is there any way to get an undeleted/restored topic to
automatically appear in a project for all client users? Note: By
automatic, I am including "Get Latest Version" or "Check Out All"
as you clearly need to do something to copy the file over to each
client's working folders. We'll have as many as 4 client users and
I need to ensure they'll all be able to work from an accurate copy
    of each help project.
    Thanks!

So, to make sure I understand, every time I undelete/restore
a topic, I'll need to alert all 4 client users and then each of
them will need to open the project on their machine and import the
    undeleted/restored topic?
Also, I'm currently running all these tests with the Client
and Server installations on my machine. When we deploy this, we'll
have a dedicated server and 4 client users. Now, when I undelete a
topic, I notice that this automatically restores the .htm file to
the relevant working folder - however, it's the SERVER'S working
    folders. Thefore, it seems like:
the client users will have to import
the .htm file by browsing over our network to the Server's working
    folders; OR
    the administrator could, using
RoboSource Control, check the file out and then back in to each
client's relevant working folders (which would place a copy of the
file on their machines and then they could import it into the
    project from there); OR
    the administrator could just e-mail
them a copy of the file and they could import it from wherever on
their machine (they'd just have to be sure they import it into the
    correct project folder).
    Is any of this accurate?
    Thanks!
