Work on files across platform mac pc

Hi, Is it possible and is there an easy to work on files in lightroom on a mac and then transfer the edited files to a pc into an existing LRE catalog?
I have LRE on my pc but want to do some work for a short period of time on someone else's mac. I would like to then be able to preserve my work and have it on my pc.

1. Take the files you want to edit else where and select them all on your PC.
2. Export as a Catalog including the Image Files.
3. Transfer that exported catalog to the Mac (External Hard Drive is a common method)
4. Open the transferred catalog on the Mac and work on your images.
5. When done, select all and Export as a Catalog.
6. Transfer this new exported catalog with the edits back to the PC.
7. Open your Original Catalog on the PC and Import From Another Catalog and point to the Catalog from Step 6.

Bluetooth not working for file transfer between Macs

I just got a MacBook Pro, with OS 10.6.1. My desktop is the iMac 2.66Ghz Intel with 10.5.8. I cannot get Bluetooth file transfers to work between the two.
I've got file sharing turned on for both machines. I've got all the frakkin' folders I need to transfer added to the file sharing list and all are set to "read & write" permission for every user I see in the list. Both machines can discover and seemingly connect to each other in Bluetooth.
However, I cannot send files between them; the connection just times out. I turned off the firewall on both machines. I've got file-sharing allowed on both machines. But the Macbook insists on only seeing the "public" folder on my iMac, but won't accept any files from it, and vice versa. I can't see anything on my iMac (and vice versa); I can't browse, I can't send.
I don't want to use the Migration -- I don't want to transfer everything under the sun to the laptop (and why in the WORLD Migration doesn't allow one to pick & choose what you want to migrate is beyond me), just specific files. Using my regular wireless connection, it's going to take over 6 hours. I want to get Bluetooth working -- it's irritating enough that the Firewire ports between my two Macs aren't the same type, so I can't use my existing firewire cable to do it, but this issue with Bluetooth is driving me up the wall.
Any suggestions? I've tried searching this forum, but can't seem to find anything that would fit my specific problem, and all the KB docs I've found, I've followed. HELP!

Sharing files using Bluetooth
To share files using Bluetooth, you first need to make sure Bluetooth is turned on, and then use Bluetooth File Exchange to send a file.
To turn on Bluetooth:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Bluetooth.
Select the On checkbox. To allow other Bluetooth enabled devices to “discover” your computer and send files, also select the Discoverable checkbox.
Select “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar” so you can quickly send files and perform other actions using the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.
To send files using Bluetooth:
Choose Send File from the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.
If the Bluetooth menu isn’t visible, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Bluetooth, and select “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar.”
In the window that appears, select the file you want to send and click Send.
Select the device you want to send the file to and click Send.
If you don’t see the device you want to send the file to, make sure the device has Bluetooth turned on and is discoverable.
You do not need File Sharing turned on for Bluetooth technology.

Trying to share Excel files across two Macs, opens as read only

I'm trying to edit and save an excel file using my Mac Mini with the file located on my MacBook Pro. I've set the file sharing to read + write on the MacBook Pro and have created a file sharing user account. I access the Excel folder on the MacBook Pro from the Mini, sign in with a password. The file is an Excel for Mac 2011 that was created on the MacBook Pro. I can open the file on the Mini but it opens as Read Only.
I don't understand why I can't edit and save the file back to the MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?

No, don't create it.
It is created by default in Macintosh HD/Users/Shared and has special privileges. In Finder from your "Go" menu > Go to Folder > and type in /Users and press "Go"

Uploading - skipping files across platforms and version numbers

I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on XP.
I've had a problem with Dreamweaver's FTP feature for several
months now. I will try to upload a file, and only about 1/4 of the
time, will it upload successfully.
I will sometimes get a message saying: "Some files were
skipped during the last operation. A list of these files has been
logged in the FTP log window". Then, that file, (index.html, for
instance) will be deleted from the server. Often, it takes 7-10
tries to just upload one file.
other times, I'll get this error message instead "There was
no response from the server while transferring the file
"index.html" 2 attempts made" It doesn't matter whether i click
"Try Again" or hit "Cancel" and try it again manually... still,
only about 1/4 of the time it's successful.
In the FTP log, this is what it says, for instance: (This is
just 1 example... it's happening across all 45 sites i manage)

< 257 "/ksmk.org" is current directory
The file "/ksmk.org/index.html" was skipped because the old
remote file could not be deleted.

Fixes I've tried: re-setting my firewall to allow dreamweaver
access. using passive FTP. using ipv6 transfer mode. the only thing
that seemed to work was deleting the setting of "Home Page" under
the "Site Map Layout" tab in Advanced Settings. it would work
flawlessly up to 2 or 3 times. But then, that setting would
automatically be populated again, and i'm back to square one. I'm
not going to go into the settings every time i want to upload
something!
I gave up, and started using WS FTP instead. a pain, because
i really like Dreamweaver's FTP better, but WS FTP is better than
the frustration. i figured i was just doing something stupid.
But now, my brother in Texas, on Vista and CS4 is having the
same exact problems. and, my friend 20 miles away on XP with CS3 is
as well. so it's not just my problem. It's happening across ISP's,
platforms, servers... every variable except Mac. I've been fine
using dreamweaver on Macs... possibly just a PC issue?
any ideas and suggestions would be gladly appreciated.

HI Ron,
I am not sure, but the small files might be the resource forks of the photos.
I know when I send photos to PC friends that I make sure the resource fork is removed from the photos before I send them other the recipient will get two diles in the email. One the resource fork and the larger is the photos.
You might try exporting the photos from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop. From there you can use a program to delete the resource forks from the photos.
You can then copy that folder of photos to the media player.
There are different methods to do this.

Starnge behave Flash when importing files. Platform Mac SL 10.6.2

Hi, when I`m importing files on flash scene window Flash is behaving very strange. (please look link below). Flash window it goes down. Sometimes it goes very low that even i can`t see buttons to minimalize window (three buttons on left - red, yellow, green). My flash is uptodate (10.0.2). Please help! I can work with this bug. Let's try to deal with the sharing issue first. Your new problem is very common under Snow. However, it turns up with different timing in an idiosyncratic way.
At first, my shares did not show up under shared in finder windows. I, then, of course, used "Connect to Server" to connect to the shares--both Mac and PC. I found that the more I kept the shares active the more likely they were show up under shared. Then, I discovered that if I kept the computers from sleeping during the period of needed access they would tend to stay in shared without nearly so much keeping the connections active.
If you do not like the above work around, then there are two other possibilities. You can elect to show mounted items on your desktop. Do that and connect to each share. Then, go > users > unlock > + login options > try dragging the mounted shares to the login item window. If successful, then the shares should be available at login.
Another approach is to mount and connect as indicated above. Then, making an alias to the share should at least make things faster.

Symbolic Link doesn't work in 'File Window' on Mac

Hi, I'm Nao from Japan.
I'm sorry for my strange English.
I usually use Dreamweaver CC on Windows7 PC.
I manage some web sites. Three of them belong to same group. They require some same image files. The three sites are on one remote web server. So I use symbolic link(directory) to share the image files.
And on my windows PC, I use symbolic link to share the files in the local sites of the three.
'File Window' of dreamweaver CC (for Win) understands symbolic link and i have no trouble.
But 'File Window' of dreamweaver CC (for Mac) can't understand symbolic link.
('Preview Window' understand symbolic link.)
How can i solve the issue?

If some files are put into the 'c:\webSites\site_A\shared_images\' ,they will appear in 'c:\webSites\site_B\shared_images\' on File Window of Dreamweaver CC.
but at terminal on Mac OSX,
MacBookPro:webSites nao$ mkdir site_A
MacBookPro:webSites nao$ mkdir site_B
MacBookPro:webSites nao$ mkdir site_A/shared_images
MacBookPro:webSites nao$ ln -s /(somewhere)/webSites/site_A/shared_images/ site_B/shared_images
'/(somewhere)/webSites/site_B/shared_images/' doesn't act right on File Window of Dreamweaver CC.
But '/(somewhere)/webSites/site_B/shared_images/' acts right on 'Finder'.
And in the 'Design view', the images located in '/(somewhere)/webSites/site_B/shared_images/' are displayed right.

How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac? Seems this should be a preferences choice.

When you share your library between users, you may run into permission and ownership problems, if both users are editing the Aperture library and not only reading it. To avoid that, it helps to put the Aperture library onto a separate disk or a separate partion of your hard drive. For s separate partition or disk you can enable the "ignore ownership on this volume" flag. Then all users can access the library as owners of this library.
You might try to put the aperture library into a shared folder on your mac, but that has caused problems recently, i.e. when the library also contains video files.

Thanks for you suggestion but it didn't work - are there other ways for solving this problem? Or is it because my files that I want to copy and paste onto my hard disk etc are too big? (However there is space on my hard disk and it works on a PC)

Are there any dialog boxes popping up behind your Yahoo screen?
I have intermittent problems attaching files in Yahoo mail and this is usually the reason. I'm also using an iMac (10.7.3) and this is likely the problem.
It is generally a Yahoo issue rather than a Mac problem.

Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.

You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com. The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader. If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files. Hope this helps.
