Work processes in SM50 showing yellow

Dear all,
We are facing one issue in SM50 where some dialog work processes are turned to yellow status one after the other.
This yellow status means i believe trace level problem which is getting changed to 2 instead of 1(default value).
In order to revert back to1 in SM50, select the highlighted work process with yellow status then go to process---> trace ---> active components. Now new pop-up will occur with value as 2, select default values and then save which will remove yellow status against the highlighted work process.
Another way to get rid of this issue is with Application restart which we can't do every time / not recommended.
I have checked dev_disp & dev_wp<no> log files, but of no useful information in them and i have gone through various posts.
Now my query is why this trace level got changed to yellow with value of 2 instead of default value 1 and what will be the root cause behind this in order to avoid future issues.

Cancel Work process using SM50 fails

When I ran a custom program while developing and system was hung. So I did CNTR ALT DEL. After that
tried to cancel a work process using SM50 cancel without core, cancel with core, end session, end session using SM04 etc.
I am getting a message "&An error occured when exiting the process".
It seems work process released the program I was executing, but still shows in SM50 as running with no program details.
SM04 Shows this extra session as SE38.
Is there any function module to kill the Process by PID? or Any other means to kill the session from presentation server?

The options are... to try to kill it from SM04 / try to kill it from Sm50 / relogin and try to kill...
If these does not work another option could be to do the following..
The report program RSBDCOS0 can be used to execute an OS command on the application server....and on a windows server the command "taskkill" can be used to kill a process...
SO run report RSBCOS0 and execute the OS command "taskkill /PID <nnn>"

Process in Process chain that shows yellow inspite of being green

Hi,
I have a process chain where one of the processes shows yellow when I look at it in RSMON log view. In the process monitor however it has status 'green'. also the chain is set up in such a manner that the next process does not start unless this current process has a status of red or green. But the next process started and has green status in both RSMON and process monitor. When i click on the context menu for the process that shows Yellow, I get an extra option of 'End process again'. Could anybody please tell me what this option does and why the process which is completed still showing yellow.

Check if there are any other infopackage/DTp loads for this DSO/ info cube was running at the same time or may be a bit earlier due to which load into the Data target was not being successful and remained in YELLOW status forever.
try using the FM RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH to manually change the status of the PC to green.

Several processes in SM50 show status as stopped and reason SLEEP

I have several batch jobs that are running and then sometime it shows up status "stopped" and Reason "SlEEP". There have been some slow DB writes but not sure what I can do about this.
Should I let them go and let them resolve themselves. Sometimes these jobs will cause performance issues.
Or do I delete cancel them to restart in the low usage periods.

Not sure about your KERNEL PATCH LEVEL.
Check this note..

Secondly as Dibya said...
Look a closer look at work proces trace file,
if you do not see any info desired....
increase the "TRACE LEVEL" of work process and chase for reason log in tracef file.
WORKPROCESS Trace info should give some clue / info to do a deep dive analyiss of your issue.
If you avail SAP Verion/ Kernel Version/ DB Version / OS Version ...
give more light to the signing in users to put their comments close to your issue.
We are sure, With Dibya reply itself, you would have got the reasons for the issue.

What is your system utlization during peakload to rate low usage periods.

Hi Unni,
If you want to know whether the configuration you have is correct or not, when you go to SM50 of that server click on CPU to see the CPU usage of individual work process. If you want to check on UPD work process usage, check the CPU time of all UPD work processes, Atleast one of the work process should generally show 00:00 secs which means CPU is not used. That means users are getting the request solved immeidately without waiting in the queue.
The other way to check how many users are waiting is Goto SM51 and see the queue information
4.6C: SM51: GOTO -> QUEUE INFORMATION.
6.20: SM51: GOTO -> SERVER INFORMATION -> QUEUE INFORMATION.
This will list current/maximum requests waiting in that queue. This is one method of identifying and increasing the work processes.
Hopefully this gives better idea.

Work process in running status from Long time

Hi all,
In my production system Workprocess is in runnig staus almost from 44 hours.
i tried to end session of user but it not ending.
i tried to kill work process from sm50 end work process and from os(unix) kill -9 pid every thing i tried but work process is in still running
please give some ideas to clear this

yes from sm50 i have done cancel without core. no jobs are running or sheduled with that user. but work process status is in running with program J_1IREGS no action is taking place.
Restarting box not possible right now.

I run transaction sm50 in that transaction 3 Dialog work process shows in yellow colure, what its mean please check the attached file for screen shot of SM50

In SM50, select that work process, then Process > Trace > Active Components. Check the value of the trace level. Put it back to "1" and the color should disappear.

Hi，
So switch a LAN card fix this issue...seems a compatibility issue or maybe some packs or programs you installed recently cause this issue.
Have you manually check the network adapter driver from the PC's manufacture website? sometimes, it will be a time delay before Microsoft push out the driver update.
Check if issue exists in safemode with network, this mode will launch Windows with limited sets of files and drivers.
if you have a restore point, restore the pc to a previous point at which the pc is functioning fine.

I have checked the note :
Use the SAP tool NTSCMGR. EXE to call up the status of an SAP service and to uninstall or install SAP services. Note with service new installations that, before starting, you must assign a corresponding SAP user for the service with whom the service is started ('Control Panel -> Services -> Startup -> Log on As This Account -> <SID>ADM or SAPService<SID>').
a) Status query:
ntscmgr.exe query <service_name>
b) Removing a service:
ntscmgr.exe remove <service_name>
is that the right way or any other way .
Please suggest my system alaready in running state can we do this things while system up or downtime required.
Is their any impact on exsiting system.

You may refer SAP help on CCMS to get the list of MTEs to be configured for spool monitoring.

Spool numbers that every output request is assigned
UsedNumbers
Percentage usage of the spool numbers; you must delete old output requests before this number reaches 100 percent
Status
Is only displayed if the spool service belongs to an SAP application server
WaitTime
Wait time in the spool service in seconds

I tunes doesnt work since new update. shows in processes but no window displays.

Running windows 7 premium(it is a legit copy). it seems to me that every itunes update that i do,seems to make itunes NOT work on my computer. the only way for me to get it to work is to litterally reboot windows 7 on to my computer....ive dont this 4 times in the last 6 to 12 months. have to reset my computer completly just to get one file to work. im not doing that this time. i know its not my computer cuz everything runs perfect on my cpu but itunes. i dont care what update it is, this has always been my issue for as long as i can remember . i will click to run as administrator, i tried to netsh ....blah blah reset. i update my computer to all the new updates. i downloaded quicktime i did everything i can find on this support page as possible. im just getting tired of this. my computer will show as if its opening itunes and nothing comes up. ill sart task manager go to process and it shows as if itunes is running. but no window will show. to make things even more frustrating maybe 1 out 10 tries..literally 1 in 10 trys itunes will appear....after i have given up and just do my own thing itunes appears after an hour or so but just freezes. ... any one else having trouble like this or has solved this problem?
im tired of spending 2 hours to reboot my system and have to get my computer reset and another 2 hours to update and put all my files back on and even if i get itunes t owork i hate sitting here for another hour putting all my music in ths system and another hour for it to be uploaded to my ipod.....
itunes do your self a favor have your people that work on all itune updates, all so fine tune the windows version update!

i think i figured it out.. these are the steps i took to getting itunes to work.
1. uninstall all things apple and itune related items off the computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 (use this file to find all items needing to be deleted and erased from recycling bin.) (also make sure you do this just as you turn your computer on this way you wont have to worry about exe. files that may not be allowed to delete.)
2. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363 (take these step and instead of deleting just one delete all the files you want no trace of itunes or apple on computer this includes quicktime)
3.(this step may not be necessary but defrag and disk clean up "C:/" defrager and disk clean up, when using disk cleanup clean all files so check everything off.
4. Now restart your computer once all files have been cleared and recycle bin has been empty.
5. before downloading any itunes go to E internet explore not mozilla or any other internet service just use E. go to tools. advance tabs scroll down this list to security. uncheck the box that says (check for server certificate revocation*)
6.check to make sure in this same location that (use ssl 3.0) and (use tls 1.0) ARE checked.
7. Mozilla fire fox maybe a better internet service than E its self. so if your using mozilla sorry dont. download itunes from E and do not save just run. install like necessary. when installing i turned off allow automated updates.. let it install.
Try it it out now. i hope this worked for you as it did for me!!!
2 day and some many hours trolling and looking for answered even called apple services for help and rthey kept sending me the same files ive read thousands of times.. so this like i said this is what i did mixing everything ive read together and it worked.

Process chain remains in yellow for long hours

My process chain remains in yellow state for many hours.
when i check the the message , it shows as chain has been removed from scheduling. Is that a problem or what may be the problem?
generally if a problem of PC remaining in yellow for long time , what are the Tcodes to be looked into.

double clicjk on this it will takes to you in to the chain individually .Then check the
process ..
Or go to <b>RSPC</b> check wher exactly the chain is kicking.Then check the monitor
status of that particular process .This monitor u can achieve By double clicking on
the process-->it will show u a popup in that click on monitor.and then depends on t
the issue u can work and repeat .

Long Running dialog work process in production ststem

Dear Friends,
IIn our production system one dialog work process is running more then 5 days. i can not terminate or cancel the process.'
I tried all the ways to cancel the work process. i restart the system (offline backup) but still that work process are showing running status....

Maximum runtime of dialog work process is controlled by parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time I am not sure how it is possible to have dialog work process running for so many days. Secondly, when you restart the system means new PIDs will be allocated and it will be not the same dialog work process. Check SM50, trace information for more details and clues.

Work Process stopped

Dear All ,
When I execute TC--> sm50 , I saw that some of dialog work process were showing stopped status and the reason column shows as CPIC . Can anyone suggest me as to what should be done ??
Some of the Work process under the time column also shows time values highlighted in red.

Thanks for your suggestion. I observed from Work process overview that one of the background work process is currently executing one SD report and when I just click on the CPU button to view the CPU time then CPU time is constant but the value under the time column is changing i.e it indicates that the work process got stuck . Can you suggest as to what should to be done in this case.

How to switch how to switch Work process from request type DIA to BTC.

We have problem in our sap sytem,When we try to log in to the sytem it throughd the abap dump
START_CALL_SICK, "no application server offers an BTC service".in sm50 it shows only dialoge workprocess and no backgroung workprocss are present.When i checked the corresponding profile parameter for BGD it is fine.
Please help me in solving the problem.Can i Manually switch the Work process from request type DIA to BTC.If so please let me know the tcode and the proceedure in detail.I am new to basis.

Hi,
It can be the reason that you or another person would have changed the profile parameters to include background processes, but not restarted the system
Check the following
1. Latest date and time of when the profile file was changed
2. Latest Restart of the System
3. Latest date and time of when Dialog, BTC process was changed
May be this will give you some clue
