  • Imac [plus 2nd display - can you work with one display rotated 90 degrees?

I'm thinking of getting a Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor to use as a 2nd screen from my iMac 20". The Dell screen seems to rotate 90 degrees so you can view it landscape or portrait. If you're working with 2 displays functioning as one giant desktop, can you rotate the 2nd display 90 degrees, and still use the 2 monitors as a giant desktop?
Any advice much appreciated - thank you!

Leopard has a built-in feature for rotating the display. It's in System Preferences Displays pane. You can select to rotate the image 90, 180, or 270 degrees. It even works for my massive 21-inch CRT that I use with my iMac as the extended desktop, although it would be very difficult to physically use that monitor in portrait orientation.
So what you are describing should work.

  • Macbook pro retina quit working with external displays

Just got a new external display, and can't get it to work with my MBP. I tried it via the mini display port and also via the HDMI connection. Then I tried to use my flatscreen tv just to test things out via HDMI and now that doesn't work either, I've done that quite a bit in the past. The only thing thats changed is I updated to Yosemite. I even tried different cables.
    Thoughts?
    Txs,
    Jeff

When I unplug the cable from the mac, the monitor does display this message:
    "No Display Port Cable"
So it does seem like the display knows that its connected to a mac, just nothing shows up. Don't get anything in System Prefs > Displays either.

  • Macbook stopped working with certain display

My macbook randomly stopped recognizing with my external display (Niko 19"). The computer does not see the monitor or the monitor does not see the computer even when i tell it to detect displays. The weird part is that it still works with all other displays. My monitor also works with all other laptops I have tried with it (PC, macbooks, and macbook pros). I have tried with different cables/dvi-mini dvi adapters and same situation with all. When it stopped working was when i had my laptop unhooked for a weekend (traveling) the monitor was not touched while i was away which leads me to think software on my laptop. However it would not make sense for it to be a driver because it just stopped working with one certain monitor and not all. Does anybody have any idea what it could be?
    Carson

It's not impossible that corruption in the driver would be confined to one display and not affect others. You could try throwing away the related plist files. In /Library/Preferences there should be a file com.apple.windowserver.plist that can be trashed. Also, for your home account in /Users/accountname/Library/Preferences/ByHost should be com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxx is a string of letters and numbers and accountname is the name on the primary account. Throw that file away, too. Then restart.
When OS X restarts and finds those files missing from their expected location, it will generate fresh copies with factory default values. Hopefully that will clear up the issue with the Niko monitor not being properly recognized.

  • How to make Macbook work with closed display?

I need to make MacBook to be closed (display) most of the time and work with external monitor, keyboard and mouse (actually trackball as I have been hating any type of mice since 1998 and not using it even at work).
Now I do not like mediocre resolution of small MacBook display and I prefer my 20 inch wide monitor. Also the keyboard is rather for quick work in small areas like restroom rather than comfortable work on big desk (I hate notebook keyboards either as they make me feel claustrophobic and crunching my fingers).
Considering recent buzz on Mac Mini not living for too long into future I would love to find alternative solution (meaning I do not want computer with display and keyboard in one and I do not have needs of spending few thousand of dollars for big metal case good for feeding and breeding birds I have ergonomics demands, but not higg performnce processing needs.
So can you tell me how I make Apple notebook being closed (and perhaps squashed by monitor stand) behave like a CPU box?
    Thanks,
    Maciek

Thnaks, but I am not interested in bluethooth/wireless solution. That minimum of cable to reach CPU does not bother me and I do not buy big monitor to work on my computer from adjacent room. I just need space for more windows and I think Apple did great job having USB Hub on keyboard that allows stringing mouse and keayoboard with one cable to CPU.
Also I haven't heard of wireless KVM and I use such solution. This is not my only computer as I run home network and two of them in my room are supposed to share keyboard, mouse and monitor. So far I was successful to run this setup, but I need inexpensive plain CPU from Apple to be able to find comfortable solution to work.
Well I could drop the other computer if Apple managed to provide everything that I need (how about Safari properly working with Citrix client and Remote Desktop to Windows as I do not want Firefox on Apple computer? Only Firefox fixes the problems with this software).

  • Does photoshop elements work with air display from avatron?

I want to use photoshop elements with air display from avatron.  Its necessary use pressure sensitive.

Photoshop Elements only specifically works with touchscreens when it comes to gestures (moving your finger(s) in a specific motion to get a special behavior). Otherwise, the touch screen should act exactly like a mouse. My guess here is that this is simply a question of precision. If you try to "click" and drag a corner of the crop interface, does the crop rectangle move or rotate instead of change size?

  • Working with 2 displays problem

    Hi ,
my system is :MacMini i7 , osx 10.9.3
I work with 2 displys one is via HDMI the other with mini disply port .
the problem is : i use the 2 displys as a deferent viewers not as a mirror displays .
BUT i can see all my programs in the bottom of the BOTH displays !
i can open them from both of displays ,
also the top of both displays are the same view . the check box of the displays window is not in a mirror option !!
any suggestions to fix that  ?
    thank you

Humm... I'm not seeing that with Dual DVI monitors...?
What does your Arrangement window look like in the Display Preferences...?
You sure your not in Mirroring and using two different Spaces...? Check to make sure that Mirror Display is unchecked.
Your not running any third party Menu Bar or Dock treatments, are you...?

  • Does Elements 13 work with Retina display?

I am considering purchase of Elements 13. Blogs indicate that it does not work with MacBook Pro with Retina display. Thoughts?

    According to What's New
    " HiDPI display support
Photoshop Elements 13 now has native support for high-resolution display devices for the Windows (HiDPI monitors) and Mac (Retina displays). Work on your pictures in the best possible clean and crisp resolution, with sharp and clear icons, thumbnails, and text in the user interface"

  • Mercury Transmit not working with vertical display arrangement

I've been using Mercury Transmit with my displays side-by-side successfully.
Today, I moved my 1080p external monitor behind my built-in retina laptop display, and I can no longer transmit to the built-in, while working on the external.
However, I am able to work on the built-in while transmitting to the external, but this is not ideal, since the built-in has more accurate colours.
    This works ^^^
    but this doesn't work:

2 positions (top or bottom) * menu bar position * Transmit which Display = 8 combinations
Of these eight, only two work: Arrangement 1 and Arrangement 5
Arrangement 1 is bad because I am transmitting to the external monitor which has poor colour gamut.
Arrangement 5 is bad because the screens are placed inverted to their physical positions; I have to travel upwards to go to the bottom screen.
    Arrangement 7 is the target.
The picture at the bottom is the limit when Mercury Transmit will stop working. If I move the lower screen any further to the right, Mercury will stop.

  • VTBook Card claiming to drive 4 displays! Will it work with Cinema display?

Will the VTBook solve this problem?
    http://www.villagetronic.com/vtbook/index.html
I am trying to find a solution to using my tablet laptop (Fujitsu T4020 Lifebook) with a 23" Cinema display.
    Here is the problem:
    1. Lifebook as a VGA out only.
    2. Lifebook's port replicator (docking station) has a DVI port (fits 23").
    3. Does not work!
As I understand it, I need a converter?
    That is supposedly either:
    1. http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1310
at a very steep price, OR
    2. http://www.villagetronic.com/vtbook/index.html
    the VTBook, also at $250+.
I really thought the port replicator with the DVI out will sort the problem out?
    Help please!
    Roger

    Hi Roger,
I admit that I don't know much about your tablet laptop model, but I suspect the inbuilt graphics card is not up to running an extra 23" display (hence the port replicator not working for this display).
I think your best hope of getting it to work off this tablet laptop is via the Gefen adaptor. See if you can get a returns deal on the adaptor if it doesn't work for you.
    Cheers!

  • Macbook Pro won't work with external display?

The very first time I connected my brand new Macbook Pro to my 23" Cinema Display the laptop screen displayed mostly static, though the external monitor continued to work. The computer was sent to Apple for repair. Apple replaced the logic board. Though the nature of the problem changed following the "repair" (the Macbook's screen now goes dark instead of displaying noise) the laptop still will not drive the external monitor successfully without multiple re-starts. I've experimented with turning the sleep mode on and off as well as the screen saver. No effect. Is anyone using this set up successfully or is there some fatal design flaw in the Macbook Pro? System 1.4.8, 2 gigs RAM. Thanks.
Macbook Pro Intel Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the input. Yes, I've driven the 23" with another Mac. I took the laptop back to the shop today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue.

  • Navigate Value Interaction not working with UNIONs displayed as pivot

hi all - If created dozens of requests the uses drilling. Now I'm getting strange behavior in a certain scenario...
I have a request that is a pivot view and contains UNIONs. One of the columns, employee name, is set up as 'Navigate' for the Value Interaction property. The request drilled to has employee name set up as 'Is Prompted' in the criteria.
If the main request is displayed as a table view, the drilling works fine - the drilled to request opens with the intended employee that was clicked on in the main request. However, if the main request is a pivot view (which is the view I want) instead of a table view, the drilling does not work as intented - the drilled to request opens with all the employee names. I just want to drill on the clicked upon employee, not all the employees.
    I'm using OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
Any suggestions as to why this would work as a table view but not as a pivot view?
    Thanks!

The best solution is to define hyperlink for the detail report in the report column itself. Change the expression of column to HTML hyperlink. (Make sure value interaction is disabled) Use Go URL syntax to navigate to detail report and pass parameter, something like below:
    <pre>'&lt;a href=”saw.dll?Go&Path=/Shared/ReportName&Action=Navigate&P0=1&P1=eq&P2=Emp.Name&P3=’ || Emp.Name || ‘">’ || Emp.Name || ‘&lt;/a>’</pre>

  • Ipod dock sync problems into G5 / works with Cinema Display

after buying a new printer i had to reshuffle my usb and firewire arrangements, so i moved the ipod photo dock to the usb port on the back of my G5...before it was going into the back of my apple cinema display's usb port.
now, i get the (-36) message whenever i try and transfer songs with the ipod in the dock when connected into the back of the G5. if i bypass the dock and use the usb cable directly into the ipod it works fine, and everything (dock included) still works fine if it's plugged into one of the apple cinema display usb inputs. i just can't use the dock anymore if it's plugged directly into the G5. i do have Isight hooked up to firewire and some of the other ports used, but Isight didn't interfere with anything before this.
anyone have any clue what's going on?

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get my iPod to sync. Tried everything that normally cures all problems and quite a few new things. No joy.
Anyway, every so often, due to having to disconnect without ejecting or force quitting applications, my iPod becomes unrecognisable.
What works for me is to boot the computer using my Installation Disk. As soon as you're past the welcome page you will have access to Disk Utility. It always seems to be able to see and repair the iPod. I then cancel the "Installation" and reboot from the System on my Hard Disk.

  • FireFox 13 Search Bar not working with TB display

I have a strange problem.  I have a new 13" MB Air (mid 2012 model) and I have it attached to a Thunderbolt display.  I use FireFox 13 for browsing.  When my MB Air is solo (i.e., not hooked up to my TB display), the search bar in the top right of the FireFox screen works normally.  When I have the TB display hooked up (both in clamshell and extended desktop mode), the search bar doesn't work (keep getting an error that the connection was reset).  I am having the same problem with the address bar search function as well.
I have tried deleting the appropriate files in the FireFox Profiles folder (formhistory.sqlite, search.json, search.sqlite...all after quitting FireFox), but to no avail.  Sometimes after doing this the search bar will work once, but then on a subsequent search I get the same connection reset error.
    Thoughts?

  • Screensaver/ not working with 2 displays (Boxee, XBMC)?

    Hi there, i've got following setup;
    2011 iMac 27" at 2560x1440 (Display 1)
Sony 42" LCD connected via MiniDV to HDMI at 1920x1080 (Display 2)
Boxee mediaplayer software for OSX (http://www.boxee.tv/make), however the same issues apears with XMBC software (hereafter Mediaplayer)
    Configuration:
    - Mediaplayer has been configurated to use Display 2 only
    - OSX Screensaver is set to kick in within 5 minutes on Main Screen Only (=Display 1)
    - Display sleep is set to kick in at 20 minutes
    Issue description:
    - Mediaplayer works perfectly, plays movies on Display 2
    - However the screensaver does not kick in on Display 1 while Mediaplayer is active, even not after some hours, same for Display sleep
    - FYI there are no overlapping items or windows from Display 1 to 2 and vice-versa.
    Questions:
Does anybody have a clue what could be wrong here?
How can i blank (or at best turn off) Display 1 while watching a movie on Display 2 either by using standard OSX settings or by some utility?
    Thanks

Have had same issues trying to edit HD video with Mac Pro system using ATI Radeon 4870 HD, with latest snow Leopard sw rev. SOMETIMES the card works fine- displaying Final Cut Pro Browser video on my 30" Apple cinema display coming out from the multi pin output of the 4870, and a Sony 46" Bravia for client review, via the mini DVI output, using an Apple purchased Moshi, mini DVI to HDMI converter. An earlier posting suggested that the sequence of booting up was the root cause, but I'm not sure about that. Apple FCP support pointed to plist corruption, which also seemed to resolve the problem for awhile, but again, it resurfaced. Now Apple claim that they will not certify that it will provide HD video out from that configuration (mini DVI to HDMI), which is strange since it works, but not consistently. A friend who has the same card, suggested root cause may be that Quartz Extreme support under my System Profiler / Hardware / ATI Radeon 4870HD is missing! Another person reported that when he upgraded recent SW, it disabled Quartz Extreme- not sure whether this is root cause yet or not. Still not resolved. Suggestions welcome.
