Workaround for Firefox browser not recognized by SLL search engine?

Attempting to add Google SLL (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-ssl-243978/?src=ss) to Firefox (35.0.1 Mozilla FIrefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0) fails with the error message "Sorry, you need a Mozilla-based browser (such as Firefox) to install a search plugin." I've tried suggested support pretaining to "useragent", but the suggested "reset" option is greyed in the selection menu. Is there a workaround?

This can happen if you have an extension that blocks content like JavaScript.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • Why is the Firefox browser not recognizing ANY Flash player add-on?

I recently updgraded to Flash 17.0 and find that the browser often doesn't recognize my Flash player add-on. The crazy thing is that it's available in my list of add-ons, but whenever I enable and disable it, Firefox never recognizes that it's present when I go to sites that use the add-on.
I recently uninstalled the latest version of Flash and went back to an older version (10.3 I believe), and that still didn't change anything. I even did the little trick where you go into your "help", "Troubleshooting information" and "show folder" to delete "pluginreg" DAT, but it seems you have to do this EVERY new session on Firefox.
This is ridiculous. Flash is so often used on websites that I can't believe Firefox would upgrade its browser and not have something as essential as its compatibility with Flash all ironed out prior to the upgrade. I've read through the other answers to similar questions on here, and NONE of them offer any kind of permanent fixes. It'll all crap that you have to do manually every time you start a session on the browser.

Nope. I tried both things, and neither worked. I went through the work of downloading and installing both ActiveX version and the plug-in version. I then delete the plugin.dat after I closed out of my last season of Firefox.
It seems to work immediately after I do this, but if I disable Flash, at all, as I often do during most of my browsing and then enable it before I go to youtube, youtube still doesn't recognize the plugin and tells me I need to go download it.
It looks like I'm going to have to go and reset my plug-ins, but I REALLY don't want to do this. This is ''insane''.

  • Workaround for Firefox SVG hyperlink problem?

I am struggling with the Firefox 1.5 specific problem when using drilldowns with SVG charts.
In IE 6, Mozilla 1.7 and Firefox 1.0.7 it works fine, but not with Firefox 1.5.
Whenever I click on a link in a chart the link will be opened inline on the same page similar to an IFRAME ( <img src="http://i1.tinypic.com/skzz9f.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by TinyPic"> ) . I don't want it inline. Seems to be a problem with the EMBED tag and Firefox 1.5.
Did anybody find a workaround for Firefox 1.5 and SVG?
    Thanks,
    ~Dietmar.

    Hi Carl,
Thats awesome! Thanks :). Took me while to figure it out, but when I'm hooked on a problem, I usually don't give up that easily ;).
I guess cross-browser SVG support still has a good way to go.
That would be a good addition to the wiki.OK. Is linking to the blog article ok or shall I create a complete entry?

  • In landscape view Firefox browser not visible, need to make browser window NOT ZOOM or STRETCH!

Screen goes to black when tablet (ASUS Eee Pad Tablet) is turned to the landscape view I need to make the browser Window on the Android Firefox Browser NOT ZOOM or STRETCH to fill the Screen! [email protected]

Yes we know that Android improperly suggests using zoom for Firefox mobile. Firefox 9 has a specific tablet UI that will correct this issue. It will be in the Android Market as Firefox beta around Nov 10th.

Pages for iPad is not recognizing the password I assigned to a document.  I included a hint, and I know I am entering the password associated with the hint.  Is there anything I can do to access my document?  i quite the Pages app and restarted it.  Now I guess I'll reset the iPad and see if that helps.   Thanks!

Interesting that one does not need the password to delete using Finder.
The Pages password protects the contents of the document.  If there were a Finder password, it would protect what you might think of as the "file wrapper" ... the stuff around the file content.
Glad it's not vital.  I have to say I only pasword protect those Pages documents that are, in fact, vital.
    Best of luck.

i made a free website using iweb and my host is dropbox but it is not showing in every search engine,i have to use a proxy for my site to pop up

Possibly because dropbox is not really a proper webhost - it might be better if you went and signed up for proper web hosting from somewhere like http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.hostexcellence.com.
Have you told Google that you site exists?  If not, then you need to do so - http://www.google.com/addurl.

  • Is there a way to stop Firefox from suggesting to add new search engines to my search bar?

Is there a way to stop Firefox from suggesting to add new search engines to my search bar whenever I visit websites that suggest to us to add their search engines?
I searched a lot and couldn't find any help. How to stop websites from suggesting to my Firefox search bar to add their search engines? I don't want to add other search engines other than the ones I organized. I don't want my list to look more distracting and longer.

Firefox doesn't do that. That's either a feature of the website you are visiting or possible Malware on that PC.
A screenshot of that might be helpful. <br />
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem <br />
It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.
Then use the '''Browse ....''' button below the '''''Post a Reply''''' text box to upload the screenshot.

  • In "Options" I do not have a default search engine and does not let me install one, how do I resolve it?

I don't have any serch engine, and if I want to install it from the web page, i click the "+ Add to Firefox" icon and it doesn't do anything. Also, if I write a web adrees at the adress bar, it doesn't work.
I've already tried to uninstall and install it again, and it doesn't fix it.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
You can delete the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
You can find the full version of the current Firefox 36.0.4 release in all languages and for all operating systems here:
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check for problems caused by extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • New Tabs for Firefox will not open unless clicking on a link while browsing.

To expand on what the question is, Every time I try to open a new tab, it just doesn't work. New tabs only open when I click a link that also opens the page in that link in a new tab. Even when I try to do the same thing through the file menu and Ctrl+T. Otherwise, Firefox is running normally. Yesterday, I downloaded a program called "FLV player" that I knew came with an ask.com toolbar but for some reason, switched ask.com to the homepage for Firefox. After that, I switched the homepage for Firefox back to its default page.

'''''Ask Toolbar''''' can cause that problem. Uninstall it.

Not related to your question, but...
You have some old Java Console '''''extensions''''' that Java did not clean up when updating. The old versions that you have are: 6.0.22, 6.0.23, 6.0.24<br />
You can remove them by following these instructions: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions

  • My adobe flash plugin for firefox is not working? I have windows 7

I have uninstalled - reinstalled, I have checked plugins - and when I run the plugincheck via mozilla it says it needs up dated. ?? I have windows 7. I have specifically downloaded the version for firefox flashplaer 16 and windows / browser is still not recognizing it. This has been an issue I have been trying to correct now for 3 days and is sucking up my time as a designer working from my home. I'm very disappointed in the creation and issue of this product. Please help.
    Sincerely,
    Tracy

It looks like you have two Flash Plugins installed for Firefox.
    Flash
    Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0
I'm curious what that first one labeled simply as "Flash" has for a description in the add-ons manager. Does it say anything about Lightspark?

  • Flash plugin installation for Firefox browser

I have a very simple question:
I am running Linux, and I use the latest Firefox browser.
From this site (Adobe) I downloaded the flash plugin
    "flash-plugin-9.0.124.0-release.i386.rpm". Then I installed the
package with the "rpm -Uvh ... " command (as superuser of course).
It appeared that the installation succeeded. Afterwards, the
command "rpm -q flash-plugin" shows that it is installed. However,
Firefox still does not see the plash player. What else do I need to
    do? Can anybody help?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

    try this
    First, close running Firefox.
    Open the terminal (shell prompt)
    Install Flash Player
Type the following command to install :
    $ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
Some people might find voice is not working with newly
    installed flash player.
Type following commands to solve this problem
    $ sudo apt-get install alsa-oss
    $ gksudo gedit /etc/firefox/firefoxrc
Find line that read as FIREFOX_DSP and set to :
    FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"
    Save and close the file.
Close Firefox and restart it again.

  • Firefox browser not working on Apple websites

My Firefox browser was having perpetual problems properly loading any apple.com site and I have a sure fix for the problem if anybody else is experiencing the same problems.

So what's the fix for Firefox not working on Apple's website? Could it be that Apple is becoming the New Microsoft? I'm guessing that has something to do with it.
