Workaround for lack of wireless bridge mode on WRT110

okay, so after reading that I don't have a wireless bridge mode on my WRT110, I'm looking for a way to pass dhcp addresses through my linksys router.. Is there a way to do this?
My setup is modem(cable) -> ASA 5505 (Cisco firewall appliance with 8 switchports) -> WRT110 -> wireless clients (iPhone, laptop, etc).
Right now I have two internal networks (all the wireline devices plugged into my ASA and my wireless clients off my WRT110).
reason: I have a application on my iPhone that needs to be on the same network as my home computer. I know I could just plug my home computer into my WRT110, but trying to find a way to keep all wireline clients on my ASA 5505 switchports. Thoughts? Would a ip helper address work on a WRT110?
Thanks in advance

Well as your WRT110 will be your secondary router, Well you can set your Linksys Router ( WRT110 and ASA 5505) Cisco Router in the same network.

  • Workarounds for lack of sub-folder support

I'm trying to find a workaround for the lack of sub-folder support for photos. For example, are there any apps that synchronise my photos with the original folder structure from my PC? I've spent quite a lot of time searching, but can't find the right solution.

    Hi all. Hope this helps...
There is NO sub-folder (two or more folder levels) support in OS3x and OS4x until today. Hope this will change in near future, however that also means foregoing smoothness operation of the iDevice due to how the internal memory works inside (so far, thousands of photos can be viewed without a lag because how fast the iDevice can find the memory location of each file inside its big memory, and creating sub-folders will take great amount of time for the processor to find, put-together, and present the many photos to screen).
There are other applications that support photos with sub-folders (folders inside folders inside folders inside folders inside folders and so on), however these are not specialized photo viewing app and will not show picture thumbnails but file listing instead:
    - GoodReader
    - OPlayer
Two good photo and video viewing apps with privacy security; Photo Safe and Video Safe, are also available, which supports high-definition without reducing photo quality as in original iDevice, BUT does not support sub-folders (only one level folders/albums).
I was hoping iOS4 had the Sub-folders feature for its iPhoto... doesn't have to be three-folder levels, but just additional one level sub-folders would be great.
    Cheers!

  • Workaround for lack of backward compatibility?

Is there any workaround for the new iOS7 Pages' lack of backward compatibility?  I am still running Pages '09 on my MacBook Pro and won't upgrade to Mavericks until it's reached version 9.02 or so.  The new Pages tells me that any doc I open will no longer be compatible with any version of Pages except the newest one.  I also see in reviews of the new Mavericks Pages that some people are losing formatting etc of their old Pages docs in the new version because of this backward compatibility problem, and that makes me even less inclined to upgrade given how many Pages docs I have that May be unreadable in the new version.
    Any suggestions accepted.  Thanks.

I solved my own problem.  I'm posting how in the hope it'll benefit others.  This will only work after you have synced your iPad to iTunes on your computer.
First, I recovered the old version of Pages from my laptop's trash.
Second, I made a copy of the old version, went into user/music/iTunes/Mobile Applications and removed the new version of Pages and pasted in the copy of the old version.
Third, I opened iTunes and clicked on "Apps" in the "Library" section of the Sidebar.  I then dragged and dropped the old verison of Pages onto the Apps screen in iTunes.  iTunes asked me if I wanted to replace a newer version with an older one and I clicked on "yes."
Fourth, I deleted the new version of Pages from my iPad.
And fifth, I synced the iPad with iTunes, which copied the old verison of Pages onto the iPad.
I have a feeling that step 2 is redundant, but I've done that kind of thing before and it has seemed to work.

  • This is a workaround for the MBP wireless issue

There have been many topics on the MBP wireless issues already, but I thought some people might find this workaround helpful.
Firstly, my system is a 2.2Ghz MBP, running 10.4.10, and also airport extreme update 2007-04. I am using an airport express base station. My previous Powerbook never had any wireless problems, so I really couldn't blame the basestation for the MBPs poor wireless.
Warning - The workaround requires a little bit of work in the terminal. A little bit of understanding of how networks work is assumed here as well. So it is probably not for everyone ...
What I have observed - whenever the MBP loses connection, the airport basestation IP and MAC addresses are missing from the ARP table.
    - To view the ARP table, type (in a terminal window) arp -a.
So, when the MBP wireless hangs, open up the terminal and type that in.
Do a Cntrl-C if the arp command is hanging and not returning anything.
In normal situations, a list of IP addresses and MAC addresses will show up.
As others have already noted, clicking on the airport icon in the menubar, will magically bring the wireless back to life. When this happens, the ARP table also gets magically populated correctly. Coincidence? I think not!
So, the workaround is to store a PERMANENT entry in the ARP table for the airport basestation IP and MAC address. In my case, I can use the Airport Utility software to confirm what the basestation IP and MAC addresses are (note MAC address = Airport ID in Airport Utility). I found the basestation IP=10.0.1.1 and the MAC=0:11:24:07:d7:f
To create a permanent ARP table entry for my airport basestation, I opened up a terminal window, and did the following -
    1) login to my administrator account
    2) type in the following command sudo arp -s 10.0.1.1 0:11:24:7:d7:f
    3) type in my administrator password to authorise the change
    4) type in (to confirm the changes have been made) arp -a
    5) logout of my administrator account (from the terminal)
Ever since I did this, my MBP wireless performance has been flawless.
Note, if you shutdown or restart your computer, the arp entry disappears. This is ok for me as I hardly ever power down my MBP. As insurance I have added an account startup item to remind me to do the arp table entry.
This workaround is great for me because I don't have a need to use multiple wireless networks. It might not be practical for people who roam around onto different networks.
Give it a go and see if it works for you.

OK, after some further experimenting, I changed the multicast rate on my airport express. It was set at 6Mbps, and I changed it to 2Mbps.
I have read that the default multicast rate for previous 802.11g versions of Airport basestations is actually 2mbps. Excellent results so far !! I have set up a terminal command to continuously ping my airport router address every 15 sec, and there have been virtually no dropped packets so far over many hours.
    ping -i 15 10.0.1.1
Interestingly, in Apple's Airport Admin software in my MBP there is no option to set the rate at less than 6Mbps (!!!!), so I had to use the Windows XP version of Airport admin software to make this change using a windows machine. Using the XP software you can set the muticast rate as low as 1Mbps.
If you are using Apples airport admin software (Tiger and Leopard) and you commit any sort of change in settings, the multicast rate will be re-set at a minimum of 6Mbps. My understanding of the multicast rate is that setting it too high is similar to shrinking the coverage area of the basestation, and limiting access only to clients who can transmit at the required multicast rate.
So my new theory is that the dropouts are caused by the MBP dropping off the airport due to not being able to achieve the set multicast rate. (this could be due to factors such as low signal strength, excessive interference or noise).
If you are using Apples more recent Airport admin software, you are having a minimum 6mbps muticast rate set, and this might be too high for your particular environment.
    Just a theory.
(oh yeah, I enabled interference robustness on the MBP and the basestation just for good measure)

  • Workaround for lack of loopback on the HH3?

Does any techy guys know how if I can get loopback working so I can access my PC on my wireless LAN for such programs as SABNZBD?

  • Workaround for lack of way to add address from mail to existing contact

The original post below was deleted by Apple because it constituted "feedback" and was not a technical question.  Of course it was a technical question.  I was hoping someone would suggest a workaround or some way to actually get this to work .  I am hoping Apple doesn't delete my post again (really....)
To be clear - Is there a workaround or am I missing something?
Why does Apple have to be so smart?   Often, I want to add an email address from an email to an existing contact.  If my computer recognizes the contact, I get "add to existing contact" in the right click dropdown.  Frequently however, it doesn't recognize the contact and the only options I have are to add a new contact or copy the address and go to the contact and paste.
Why can't it have "add to existing contact" come up everytime like it does in windows?  Then I will decide what contact to drop it in.
This is so frustrating.  Just let the user have a little autonomy Apple!!!!!!!

Yea, hopefully they add this option from the dropdown menu, otherwise we have to keep creating "new contacts" for the same person.  Quite frusterating considering that this option is available on the iphone version of mail.

  • Wireless Bridge/Relay between WRT110 and WAP4410N

I recently purchased and installed a WRT110 router to gain wireless internet access for my laptop at home.  The setup was fairly simple and seems to work fine except for the range of the signal.  Once I am greater than about 30 ft from the router, my signal strength drops to "low".  The router is located in the office at one corner of the house and if try to access at the other corner diagonally (about 100 ft) I have not signal.  I purchased a WAP4410N access point with hopes of relaying the wireless signal to all areas, by placing it near the center of the house, by I can't seem to get it to work.  I am a newbie to this wireless setup and not sure which connection type to use, the Access Point or the Wireless Client/Repeater.  The Client/Repeater is what I have tried and the 4410 found the 110 when I performed the site survey, when connected directly to it, but when I disconnect the patch cord and try the connection wirelessly, I get nothing.
Has anyone setup this combination and if so, were you able to get it to work?

What firmware are you using ????    If you are using the linksys firmware then maybe you should try another firmware that is 3rd party firmware like the DD-WRT .  They have that feature for client Repeater or a Repeater Bridge that can be used as a wireless Repeater wirelessly or you can use it wired to the computer.

  • How to configure Airport as wireless bridge and wired mode?

    I have two airport extremes.
1)APBN#1 - connected to Cable Modem and local 8port switch
    2) APBN#2 - in wireless bridge mode + Ethernet connected to APBN#1
I would like APBN#2 to act as a wireless bridge to extend my wireless range for my notebooks, but also provide wired ethernet connection to computers connected to it. HOwever, this creates an IP loop.
How would I be able to confiture my APBN#2 to act as BOTH a wireless bridge and ethernet switch without conflict?
    Thanks

I am having related problem I think ... have Cox ISP, a Linksys cable modem and AEBS #1 ... ethernet out of cable modem into AEBS #1 then into netgear 24 port switch (to feed all the ethernet ports in my house). I am unable to have both the AEBS and the wired network function at the same time.
They have been working for a couple years now ... and for some reason recently (past couple days) been problems...
If I get the wired (flowing through the AEBS) to work -- then no DNS is being sent to the wireless. If I get the wireless to work, the wired won't.... AEBS #1 (numbering it because once I it up I have another to extend it....)
    thanks

  • Problems with Bridge mode at a hotel

    Hi there,
I have my Airport Express (N) set up to create a wireless network, use DHCP, and be in Bridge mode. When I plug in the Ethernet cable from a hotel (where you are required to subscribe and pay for their service), I can use the internet from my laptop wirelessly without problems. However when I connect to wifi from my iPhone 3GS, it connects to the network, but prompts me to repay for another service. The site also states that the price is 'per computer'. I was under the impression that when a router was in Bridge mode, it was invisible to the hotel network, and you can share the internet connection with multiple computers, but somehow the hotel is detecting exactly that. Am I missing anything here?

Sorry, the hotel router is configured to charge you for each separate device that connects. In other words, if you connected with your computer and paid the fee, and then another person tried to connect their laptop, the hotel router sees another device and will charge for that device.
Bridge mode on the Express allows you to configure your computer so that the hotel router sees your computer as the connecting device. Bridge mode is the only setting that will work correctly to allow you to configure your Express.
Specifically, the hotel assigns an IP when you connect your computer, if you try to connect another device, it needs to assign another IP address. The hotel will charge you for each IP address.

  • How to Access E900 in Bridge mode?

Hi All,  My ISP gave me Static IP i.e. 10.XXX.XXX.XX range.  (I can connect to Internet directly on any PC or router in Static Mode).  Now i have got E900 and want to put same in Bridge mode.  (Reason i want to use Router B as DHCP & NAT).  I get 2 option .. 1. Automatically Assign IP 2. Specify IP address .    whenever i choose Automatically Obtain . I am not able to browse setup page of Router E900 . and even i tried to specify an IP (192.XX) . it was not able to detect Setup/admin page of router.  Even i didn't find any entry in arp -a.  Any idea., what would be IP of Router in Bridge mode.  I had to reset router to see Setup/Admin page.  Thanks in advance.

You need to specify an IP address in the range in your main host router, i.e. set 192.168.1.50. Then connect the LAN wire from the E900 to the main host routers LAN port. Disable all DHCP services and firewalls on the e900. Once the e900 is up and running. You should be able to connect to the E900s web page from a PC at 192.168.1.50 http://www.northshore-it.com/tips/how-tos/cascade_linksys/#LAN_to_LAN For wireless bridge mode, you should set Auto Obtain. However you should have a next option to enter in what wireless SSID name to connet to assumeing that this is wireless bridging. Wireless bridging needs specify a wireless SSID name and PW to connect to on the main host router. Does this model router support wireless bridging?

  • Linksys ea2700 in bridge mode

I *think* I have my ea 2700 setup for wireless bridged mode, using this article:
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/GetArticle.aspx?docid=28cee6a2fb0d4176a2210942d1d5836c_Setting_up_the_...
however, I notice that that article doesn't say anything about the wireless setup of my ea 2700 - do I configure it?  In other words, when you setup your router in bridged mode, do you see two wireless networks, the old one and the new one?  Or does the bridged router become like an antenna for the old router?  I have a 2wire Uverse wireless router (the old router) - I can still connect to it after the ea2700 bridged setup.  I can't connect to my new ea 2700 - it doesn't seem to like the password.  Am I supposed ot be able to connect to it?

There’s a quick tip on that link you posted above (below) which I suggest you should do:
QUICK TIP:  The Wireless Network Name (SSID) for each router must be different to avoid conflict for devices which will connect to the wireless network
To manually setup the wireless settings of your router, follow the steps from this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=22532.

  • Is there any 802.11n wireless bridge or some bridge throughput close to 100M?

    Hi All,
I'm looking for some enterprise wireless bridge. Is there any cisco 802.11n wireless bridge on the market? or some bridge close to 100Mbps throughput? Thanks.
    Lou

    Hi;
I'm investigating the exact same thing. After seeing the caveat in the 1250 install guide that said "Don't use it as a bridge!"  (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1250/installation/guide/125h_c1.html) , I called the Cisco WiFi sales engineer assigned to our region, the brilliant and lovely Ms. K.
She clarified some items for me.
802.11n relies on several things for increased speed, two of which are multiple spacial data streams (currently two) and the 40MHz increased channel width. When you do point-point, apparently there is just not as much multipoint benefit. She said we would be lucky to see more than 50 Mbps real throughput on a bridge using 1252s at 100m range. BTW, she said that even though the install guide says the 1252s could not be used in bridge mode, she thought it would work; perhaps the 2007 guide is outdated.
So, we are going to get some antennas and test this. Will try to report back on the results.
Regarding Exalt, she did confirm that at present Cisco is re-branding and selling them as OEM and support would be direct through Exalt, not TAC. She would not speculate on looming acqusitions, but did jokingly observe that in the past, all the companies that Cisco absorbed went through an OEM re-sell phase ;p

  • Time Machine not working in Bridge mode

I have a AE6400 setup in bridge mode. The reason that it is in bridge mode is because I have my apple backup hardware on the other side and I believe having it in a Firewall mode would not allow this to work ( at least not easily). I have a client on the inside (Mac book Pro) and a WD Cloud Mirror on the outside. The Mac can see the standard shared folder that comes with WD.
However, the shared timeMachineBackup drive does not show in bridge mode. I thought that was the whole point of having a bridge mode?!! Am I missing something?
I have tried connecting the Mac directly to the other side (outside) of the Linksys, hence bypassing it, and every thing works like a charm. Is there a secret sauce here or am I missing this? Thanks

Is there a Wireless Bridge mode option listed there?

  • AirPort guest wifi in bridge mode v 6

Oke... seems the configuration is a very limited to what Apple thinks are the basic needs...
What I really miss is support for Guest network in bridge mode. It ALMOST workst in  6... a shame you can't configure a DHCP server for the Guest network when the main wifi is in bridge mode. You can enable Guest, the client just won't get any IP address... Please fix this! A really usefull function since the AirPort Extreme is used in situation where it isn't the NAT, DHCP or gateway device!
Also it should be possible to configure the DHCP ranges for main and guest should indepently of each other... and simple disable the DHCP function for one or both. Also client isolation is a nice option.
Please make it more Office friendly...
Really make an more advanced view... the aiport is capable of so much more! A pitty it's potential is limited through software configuration issues...
So make it so in the next generation of the configuration utility! Thank you

Please tell Apple what you want here.  This support community is comprised of other users, just like you.  Apple is not here.

  • WRT54GS Wireless Bridge.

    Hey.
    First post here.
Have been doing alot of google searching trying to find a solution to a problem im having but dont seem to find any solid answers so thought id ask here.
What im trying to is this:
I have our main router ( BT Business Hub ) which has 3 ethernet cables running from it...
    - One to our main computer ( direct link )
    - One to our secondary computer ( direct link at around 30m away )
    - One connected to a Linksys WRT54GS ( v7 Firmware at 80m away )
Currently we can use the internet on the main computer and through any laptops connected to the Bt Business Hub. We can also use the internet through any laptops connected to the WRT54GS but am unable to connect to the internet through the secondary computer.
I believe this i caused by the WRT54GS conflicting with something.
I now understand that i need to install some third party firmware to enable wireless bridge mode on the router.
Can someone explain where i need to start in order to get this all working?
And can someone confirm i will be able to connect wirelessly to the WRT54G after enabling wireless bridge mode?
Im sorry if that was a bit confusing..
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

From how I understand the situation, the only computer that cant access the internet is the secondary computer, right?
I don't think that WRT54GS is conflicting with "something" because you can access the internet from it. So it must be the secondary computer that has an issue.
Is DHCP enabled in the main router?
