Workaround for scanner for HP 3055 running OSX Lion 10.7?

Do you have a workaround for the HP Laserjet 3055/3050 all-in-one scanning ability for Mac OSX Lion 10.7?
I am hitting the wall trying to find out how to enable the scanner to work?

You may try the following workaround, although i cannot guarantee it will work and may not be stable as expected:
Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan, select the 3050 printer ant then click the Minus sign to remove it.
Download the Mac OS 10.5 installation below by clicking the download button:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18...
Make sure to skip the Setup Assistant and follow the steps till the installation completes.
Perform the following steps in order to provide the Setup Assistant the right permissions to complete on Lion:
1. From the Utilities folder, open the Terminal
2. Type “sudo “ (with space) in the Terminal.
3. Locate the HP Setup Assistant in folder Applications/HP LaserJet Software
4. Right-click (Or CTRL + Letf click from the Apple keyoard) the HP Setup Assistant and choose “Show Package Contents”.
5. Open the “Contents” folder and then the “MacOS” folder. It should contain the Unix Executable File of HP Setup Assistant.
6. Drag the HP Setup Assistant (Unix Executable File) into the Terminal and press enter. Terminal will ask for the password of the user.
7. After writing the password press Enter Button.
Now follow the Setup Assistant Steps to complete.
Good luck,

With the coming of OSX Mountain Lion, will apple be supporting a late 2006 I mac currently running OSX Lion?

Ahhhh. Well, now you have earned a "Slap Kappy" coupon good for one slap. Expires in 30 days.
The 64-bit kernel thing will leave a lot of use behind. My main machine is a 2006 Mac Pro on which I've spent some money putting in two 4-core CPUs and an ATI 5770 GPU in the past year. If I want to run ML I can't do so. The only options I have for a desktop Mac is either a newer Mac Pro model - post 2007 - used or refurbed or a recent or new iMac. This assumes the Mac Pro line may be dropped. Apple has been very mum on that.
Clearly, Apple wants to get users of older hardware to buy new machines in order to run ML now and in the future. Because it is possible to boot the older models with the 64-bit kernel via some hacking, Apple might have been able to install ML on them by adding some code and retaining 32-bit drivers where needed, but they've chosen not to take that route. I think it's a bit of a marketing ploy to help drive up sales of new Macs, but I appreciate that Apple has chosen to abandon legacy support in the past in order to avoid having an OS like Windows - bloated by support for older and older hardware.

can you be a little more specific as to what your looking to do? There are some great Applescript gurus on this forum that are very able to help with automating numbers.

  • HT2474 I did a clean reinstall of mountain lion and for some reason the dock keeps osx lion format

I did a clean reinstall of mountain lion and for some reason the dock keeps osx lion format. Does someone how to uptade only dock application?
    Tks

Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
    killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn't work.
You need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
    Then try a dock reset.
    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command
    killall Dock
Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.
If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.

There was a time when Messages Beta was available for Lion, but not anymore.

1)Last time when i tried to start my laptop. it freezed in the start up screen with speening wheel over half an hour.so i restarted it pressing Shift to open disk utility.after repairing & verifying disk,it started normally. But it started to show numerous notifications like-
      Insecure Startup Item disabled.
                          “/Library/StartupItems/BRESINKx86Monitoring” has
not been started because it does not have the proper
                          security settings.
2)i had this problem more than one time when installing new applications. It says-
                                                          System extension cannot be used
                                               The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/
                                                CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext"was installed
improperly and cannot be used. Please try
reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an
                                                update.
    OK
This time after the first notification i started Onyx & excuted for Automotion. It started normally it freezed with progress bar written with 'Deleting misc it
ems...' for more than two hour. somthing must be wrong so i force quitted it.Then the second message showed up & after entering 'ok' each time the last massage continued to come up with other kext files--

    “/System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext”
3)Also another problem remains, although i tried multiple times to take "MacBookPro2011EFIUp2.7" through software update; it takes the update, installs it,but  after automatic restart no grey screen appears showing progress bar etc. etc. as told in the update. the funny thing is every next time i open it shows that update again.Which means it's not installed at all. i checked whether it's an appropriate update for mine model, but its alright. Can anybody please help me?
For your convenience-my 500 GB hard drive is almost full(~40 GB remaining) & i have only one partition. Would it be better if i create a different partition on it with OSX ;keep it 50% free all time & keep all other things in the other partition?
Kindly let me know if there  is any other solution without reinstalling lion cause i don't have a network connection which can be of over ~1.5MB downlink speed.

I suspect this is the cause of your problem, your downloads didn't complete correctly.
Your going to have to take the machine to a very fast and reliable Internet connection +5Mb p/s download speeds all to yourself and perform a #18 Reinstall Just OS X
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Them from there you check on the other fixes, wait for updates for your third party software to work etc.

  • I am running OSX Lion 10.7.4 and the computer no longer will go into sleep mode when I close the cover What happened with this option?

I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?

No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Thanks.

please can anbody help or advise?

You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?

There is also a good appendix on calibration:

Precisely why it's not an iPad, and why it doesn't cost very much.  An Apple rep would tell you how to connect an iPad to every computer.

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

Read here >  Known Issues | Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion
    And go to ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the PDF Browser plugin to the Trash.
    Quit Safari, empty the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.  You should be able to view PDF files now.

  • Can a macbook air early 2007 run osX lion.

Can a macbook air early 2007 run osX lion.

    See the Lion requirements below:
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

IDVD is sold separately.  (There are no realistic alternatives to iDVD.)
You'll find it on the iLife 11 disc. Once installed Apple's website will update it to the latest version automatically.
