Workaround instead of Upgrading Exchange 2010 Severs to SP3

Hi
I have a customer in an exchange 2010 environment who has 4 exchange servers in place with DAG and NLB setup. We plan to go ahead with a Hybrid setup however just need to clarify if there is any workaround that we could apply instead of having to upgrade
there exchange server to 2010 SP3?
Thanks & Regards
Aaqib

Hi,
I notice that you want to deploy hybrid environment, and don’t upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP3.
Depending on the Microsoft document, Exchange 2010 SP3 support hybrid deployment with Exchange 2013 CU1 or later version, however Exchange 2010 SP1 and SP2 are not supported.
More details about Hybrid deployment prerequisites, for your reference:

    Hi,
Schema updates should be done on a schema master or on a DC in the same AD site as the schema master. Once extended, the updates will replicated via AD replication. To narrow down the issue, I recommend you check if there is any event related to replication
on domain controller holding schema master role.
Is the schema master role in the same site as the Exchange server which you want to upgrade? If not, you can try to transfer FSMO role to a domain controller which is in the site where you want to install Exchange 2010 SP3 and then upgrade to check the result.

  • Upgrade From Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP3 - Schema Upgrade Question

    Hello,
We're currently running Exchange 2010 SP1 in our environment and want to upgrade to SP3.  I just had a couple of questions related to preparing AD for this new SP that I was hoping that someone could answer.
    Setup
We have a single forest with two domains within it (A and B for example).  The schema master is in Domain A but this domain doesn't contain any Exchange 2010 servers.  Domain B contains our 2010 CAS and Mailbox servers.
Both domains have Windows 2003 SP2 domain controllers.
I understand that before I proceed with the upgrade to SP3, I first need to update the AD schema on our schema master. I was planning on doing the following :
Log onto an existing Windows 2008 R2 64 bit "member" server in domain A (containing the schema master) with an account which is a member of the Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins groups.
    Run SETUP.EXE /PrepareAD.
Do I need to also run SETUP.EXE /PrepareDomain on domain A as well or does the /PrepareAD sort this out ?
I was then going to turn my attention to domain B (which contains the 2010 CAS and Mailbox servers) and do the following :
Log onto an existing Windows 2008 R2 64 bit 2010 Mailbox server with an account which is a member of the Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins groups.
    Run SETUP.EXE /PrepareDomain
Is this the correct procedure to follow ?  I assume that I can then go ahead and start to upgrade the Exchange 2010 SP1 servers in the following sequence :
    CAS\HUB Server(s)
    Mailbox Server(s).
Clarification on the AD upgrade steps would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

Note: There is no harm in simply running setup/PrepareAllDomains.
You should break out each Prep step since you have multiple domains:
    setup/PrepareSchema
    setup /PrepareAD
    setup /PrepareAllDomains
you can run all of these from the same DC you run the setup/PrepareSchema step!

    3. Restarted the HUB/CAS server.
    4. Created public folder database.
Even after doing all these activities, owa is still inaccessible. Please help.
    Regards,
    Ankur

    Hi Ankur,
From your description, you can't access to OWA after upgrading Exchange server 2007 to SP3 rollup 13. Firstly, please locate to C:\ExchangeSetupLogs and make sure that it is a successful installation. If not, this issue often occurs.
If it is a successful upgrading, please follow the steps below for troubleshooting.
    1. Open IIS Manager, click Default Web Site -> Authentication, make sure that Anonymous Authentication and Windows Authentication are enabled.
    2. Click Default Web Site -> SSL Settings, check "Require SSL" and click Ignore.
    3. Click Default Web Site -> HTTP Redirect, check Redirect (enter your
https://URL), check "Only redirect" box and Status code Found 302.
    4. Expand Server Configuration -> Client Access ->double click owa ->Authentication tab. Check the Basic Authentication and check the Use forms-based authentication button Logon Format: Domain\user name.
    Hope it helps.

  • Coexistence & Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP3 Unified Messaging to Exchange 2013 SP1 UM

    Hello Experts,
    We're doing Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade.
This upgrade also include Unified Messaging component which is currently working with Exchange 2010 SP3 and Lync 2013.
We have one dial plan and its SIP URI and Secured.
Looking for high level steps to plan coexistence and upgrade of Unified Messaging  from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 integrated with Lync 2013. I'll also appreciate tips on what kind of certificate and its Subject name(s).
Microsoft documentation is not very clear and I found it confusing for my scenario. Since I we don't want any downtime for UM users, looking for some help.
    Thanks in advance for help.
    -DK

    Hello Hinte,
Thanks for the information. I have been to this article which explains fresh deployment but doesn't address coexistence and migration scenario.
I'm looking for high level steps only. Can anyone validate and suggest if I'm missing something!
    1) Install new CAS+MBX Server
    2) Move system mailbox as per MS documentation to Exchange 2013 MBX
    3) On CAS+MBX Server Enabled internal CA trusted Cert for UM Services.Internal
CA certs contain only CAS+MBX server's FQDN only.UM services Startup Mode is set to "Dual".
    4) Assigned existing SIP URI Based Exchange 2010 Dial plan to New Exchange 2013 Servers.
    5) Run Exchucutil.ps1
in Exchange 2013 and OcsUMUtil in Lync 2013 (Again?)
Will this be enough or Do I need to create New Auto attendant or
    Haunt Group etc?
    Thanks for all the help!

  • Upgrade Exchange 2010 from SP2 to SP3 RU4

    Hi All,
We are planning to upgarde Exchange 2010 SP2 servers with stretched dag across 2 AD sites to SP3 RU4.
    I have few questions.
    1. We are planning to Upgrade HUB/CAS servers in both the sites in first  week.
    2. Then we are planning to upgrade mailbox servers in the next week in both sites.
    3.
Do you think this is a good approach. Can some one please share best pratices document as we are using F5 load balancing.

    Hi,
Vishwanath's suggestions are pretty helpful. Besides that, we should make sure that the update process should be managed to prevent all of the DAG members from being offline at the same time.
Here is an article about how to install Update Rollups on Database Availability Group Members for your reference.

The client would like to upgrade to  exchange enterprise so in place archiving can be used.
Can someone tell me if this can be done with our current install - and what it is I need to purchase to allow it do be done.
As I said above its exchange 2010 running on SBS 2011. Outlook 2013 and 2010 is used.
I'm sure this has already been asked at some point, but i just need a clear answer of what my next step is.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi:
You need to purchase Enterprise CALs and key in the quantity and license number:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/microsoft-exchange-server-licensing-licensing-overview-FX103746915.aspx

  • Cannot upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 Management Tools to SP2 on Win 8.1 workstation

I have a Win 8.1 workstation that I am trying to update the Exchange Management tools on from 2010 SP1 to SP2. I get an error that says:
           Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); &RoleBinPath\ServiceControl.ps1 EnableServices Critical" was run: "AuthorizationManager check failed.".
The WMI service is being disabled and not starting back up after, causing the error. I have tried the following:
-Confirmed that the ExecutionPolicy is set to undefined/unrestricted for the localmachine
-Confirmed no GPO exists in our domain to restrict this
Every single time I run the install the WMI service switches to disabled and the localmachine Execution Policy is switched to RemoteSigned.
I have tried the Google search steps except for the Setup /M:Recoverserver since I really don't know what that would do to our Exchange environment. I have seen some posts that the Exchange 2010 MGMT tools are not supported on Win 8, which I find hard to
believe. I get no unsupported error just this incredibly frustrating error.
    Any ideas?

What you are doing is totally unsupported:

By the way, Exchange 2010 sp1 and SP2 are no longer supported, the minimum supported is SP3.

Prepare the domains as required. You have to prep the forest first for SP3 before upgrading Exchange itself

  • Exchange 2010 Rollup 2 SP3 update cannot find installation package exchangeserver.msi file on SBS 2011... NEED HELP!!!

    Hello,
I am running a windows SBS 2011 standard system and there was currently an update for Exchange 2010 Rollup 2 Service Pack 3 and it keeps failing.  It says that it cannot find the installation package (exchangeserver.msi) and it is looking for it
in E:\Software\Exchange2010-SP3-x64\ folder but there never was this folder.  There is only an Exchange2010-SP3-x64.exe file.
The only exchangeserver.msi file that I find on the server any where is in C:\ProgramFiles\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\CMPNENTS\EXCHANGE14_SP1 but it won't accept it (says not authorized for this update or something alike).
Please help.  It is currently causing issues with email.  Some of the features are not working because it says exchange is currently under maintenance.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Susan you are correct:  After I installed Exchange 2010 SP3, I deleted the msi just to "clean up' my hard disk...  While trying to install Rollup 2 for SP3, the installer is trying to find it.  I downloaded the installer, used 7-zip to get
the msi and I pointed the installer to it when asked.
    The installation failed 3 times...
NOTE: I was using WSUS to install the Rollup:  I downloaded the Rollup installer and I executed:  I could see where the installer was hanging up!  First it asked me to stop an SBS service and something else (sorry I do not remember), I stopped
the services and installation continued.  Then it asked me for more files from the SP3 installation which I found on the installation folder that I created with 7-zip.  I copied to the path that the installer was looking and installation finished
    (finally!)...
NOTE 2:  If you have any firewall appliance that denies Internet access to un-authenticated requests, you better turn that rule off because the installer accesses the internet (not sure why - probably for Dot Net assemblies)...
Susan THANKS for all your help to the community!  You have helped so much!
    All the Best
    Constantine

  • Updating Exchange 2010 SP2 to SP3

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate our Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 to different server but first I need to update it. I managed to update from SP1 to SP2 without any major problems but now I'm trying to update form SP2 to SP3.

  • Exchange 2010 SP2 to SP3 Powershell script execution policies

    Hi,
I have broken Labs when installing service packs on exchange 2010 servers because the powershell execution policies have been incorrectly configured. Once the WMI service has been stopped, the scripts within the SP haven't been able to start it up again.
I can't find any info on Powershell script execution policies in relation to the SP3 for 2010 prerequisites. Does anyone know what they should be set at? And why haven't these been at the top of the list of prerequisites for installations of service packs
    for exchange?

    Hello,

    Hi  NJv7300
    Thank you for your question.
By your state, I know you get error when you use Get_ClientAccessServer. I think it caused by AutoDiscover, you can check it.
You can refer to the following link:http://www.shudnow.net/?s=autodiscoverserviceinternaluri
You can refer to the following steps:1.
    1. Using LDP, locate the following container:
    CN=<SERVERNAME>,CN=Autodiscover,CN=Protocols,CN=<SERVERNAME>,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=<ORGNAME>,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=<DOMAIN>,DC=<TLD>
    2. Double-click the <SERVERNAME> under Autodiscover and look for the "serviceBindingInformation" value:serviceBindingInformation (2): AutoDiscover.Corp.HMSA.com;
    https://honmail.corp.hmsa.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml;
serviceClassName: ms-Exchange-AutoDiscover-Service;The proper format for the Autodiscover URI is
    https://serverfqdn/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
    3. Ran Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity HON10343 -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri
    https://honmail.corp.hmsa.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    4. Ran Get-ClientAccessServer, but received an error after HON10343 was enumerated.
    5. Next, did another Set-ClientAccessServer on HON10344.
    6. Finally, ran Get-ClientAccessServer and enumerated all CAS servers in the org without error.
    7. Tested opening EMC on both Exchange 2007 and 2010 and were able to successfully expand the Server Configuration for every role and enumerate all servers.
If any questions, please let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim Xu

  • Exchange 2010 SP2 to SP3 upgrade question regarding Forefront

When doing an upgrade from 2010SP2 to SP3 is it recommended stopping all exchange services manually before installing the update?  I know there is a prereq of stopping forefront or you may have an issue with services starting.  I have not run into
this issue in my test environment.  I do not know if the SP3 install requires any checks of services to be running or not.
I have also notices on a cas/ht server with forefront installed, you can't stop forefront without shutting down the transport service.  So is it best to just shut all services down first before doing the upgrade?

    Hi,
Based on the article below, you can stop all Exchange services before you decide to install an Exchange service pack, if you really require this.
How to install a service pack or software update on an Exchange Server computer that is running Forefront Security or Forefront Protection
