Workaround to display keywords in iPhoto '11?

It seems that Apple does not care to fix the lost functionality when they removed the ability to display keywords under the pictures in thumbnail view - and this was a BIG part of why I liked iPhoto to begin with!
Has anyone ever figured out a way to restore this lost functionality? Thanks!

There is no workaround. As we all have send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

Some photos not displaying keywords in iPhoto

For some reason some of my images don't display the keywords assigned to them in iPhoto 08. As a new Mac user I am in the process of migrating my substantial image gallery from my Windows machine. Over the last few years I have spent considerable time tagging my photos in Lightroom and Expressions Media. These keywords are recognized by all other applications and also when getting the file's properties from the Finder.
The strange part is that within a particular batch of pictures (all of which had the keywords applied in the same way...I think) some images have keywords in iPhoto, but some don't.
Your help would be most appreciated.

On the 3rd attempt and 1.5 days, iPhoto Library Manager rebuilt the library (first time crashed after a few minutes, second time 2/3rds of the way through).
When the process finished, there was a message from iPhoto Library Manager saying it couldn't copy an image over and that there were some errors (I saved the log file if that helps).
I've just opened it up, and unfortunately I appear to still be missing images (the photo library is 29,692 vs. previously 29,692). When I do 'Get Info' on the folder within the iPhoto database package (i.e. the Masters folder), it shows around 33,000 files - I assume that these are all image files, so it would seem I'm missing about 3,300 images when I open iPhoto?
Is there any additional steps that I can take? Or given that I made a copy of the Masters folder elsewhere, should I perhaps just try importing these? I assume that iPhoto will use the existing folder structure to mark events, etc... I can live without the album info (I hadn't tagged photos or anything else).

Displaying Keywords in iPhoto'11

Hello all !
I just started using iPhoto'11, and I cannot seem to display my keywords under each photo as I did in the previous version. The photo title (the image number from the camera) will display, and it also seems possible to display ratings (which I don't care about), but I cannot get the keywords to display. Keywords do appear in the INFO box at the right of the screen, but that is not very helpful. Does anyone know what I can do?

Keywords have been moved into the Info tray at the right. Don't know why it was changed. You can send a request to change it back to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

Unable to import keywords into iPhoto 8

I have some photos (.jpg) in 2 particular folders which display keywords when I right click on them and choose "get info", but when I import them into iphoto 8, the keywords are not imported. The strange thing is that the keywords in most of my other photos do get imported into iphoto 8, and even a few of the other photos in the same folder as the ones whose keywords don't get imported are imported.
I cannot see any difference in parameters between those photos whose keywords do get imported into iPhoto 8, and those which don't.
Any idea why that might be the case?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How were those keywords added to the image files. iPhoto only reads the ITPC keywords so if those keywords were not added to that field by some application they will not be recognized.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

How to search photos by title and or keywords on iPhoto for iOS

Maybe I'm not I'm not seeing things wright but I can't find any possibilitie to search photos by name, title, keyword with iPhoto (1.0.1) on my iPad 2 (5.1.1)
How can I Search? I don't want to beleive that's not possible...

as Frank Caggiano said. There is not really any Apple-provided application on the iPad that will support a full-fledged photo database like the Mac-versions of Aperture or iPhoto. Even the IOS app iPhoto is nothing like the Mac version of iPhoto. The iPad version is not a photo database but a tool for editing, sharing, and viewing photos - the iPhoto Help is saying:
With iPhoto for iOS, you have everything you need to view, edit, and share your photos on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch (with iOS 7).
You can organize your photos in iPhoto IOS in a limited way by tagging them, so that they will apear in albums: What are albums?
To tag them with flags or keywords see: Flag, tag, hide photos
Considering the limited space on IOS devices, the designers probably did not expect anybody to try to store so many photos on an iPad that it would be necessary to search for them other than using the predefined Views (Moments, Places) in the Photos.app, or iPhoto's albums. And any library organization you are doing in the Photos.app or iPhoto will not sync back to your computer.

Aperture 3.3 library and keywords in iPhoto

I have updated libraies to 3.3. When I open the library in iPhoto very few if any keywords are showing up.
System Mac Book Pro with 10.7.4. I did a rebuild of the Aperture library but this di not help.
It does not seem like this is expected behavior.

Same here:
Do you also have hierarchical keyword lists? I see only a few of my Aperture keywords in iPhoto, and "Manage my keywords" only shows the top level keywords.
Funnily, all the smart albums based on Aperture keywords are there and contain the correct images.
To be able to use the same keywords in iPhoto and Aperture you seem to be restricted to the top level keywords in the hierarchical keywords list right now.
Write feedback to Apple and request this to be changed.

Workaround to display current month in calendar

Hello,
This is regarding Mr. Krishnamurthy's workaround to display current month in calendar. He asked us to run the URL with some name value pairs attached to get rid of the default "Next" button that the portal will create. But if i add this as a portlet how will i let portal know to run the portlet with these parameter values.
one way that i'm guessing is to add these parameters to the page and pass the values in the customization page. But can we do without doing this customization and everything. And also how do i display the next month of the calendar in the portal itself(i.e inline rendering). Presently if i click the next month link it takes me out of the portal. Eagerly waiting for suggestions/solutions. Thanks and regards,

Batch change of keywords in iPhoto

In iTunes, I have learned that you can "batch-change" some data by typing Apple+I to a number of (in this case) songs. Is there a way to do this in iPhoto? I tried Apple+I but it didn't work. For example, if I want to go through my album and select each sunset photo, and then at the end of the selection, add the comment "sunset" to each in a batch click.

Check out the Batch Change command in the Photos menu. You can select photos and change their title, date, or comments. If you like keyboard strokes then type Shift Command B.
If you want to keyword a group of photos (with a sunset keyword), first add sunset as a keyword in iPhoto's Preferences. Open the keyword pane (little key icon in the lower left corner) select the photos you want, and drag from any of the selected thumbnails to the word sunset in the keyword pane. The word will be applied to all selected photos at once.

I would like to import my current keywords from iPhoto to Aperture. What is the best way to do this, and then to keep them synched?

You're on the right track, but you'll need iPhoto Library Manager to do it. It's the only way to move files from one library to another while maintaining metadata. So, assign all the keywords to one pic, then transfer it to the new library using iPLM. It's a $20 shareware, and all round good app. You can read about it here:

Keywords in iPhoto 08

Am I missing the boat on adding keywords to my photos? The most intuitive way for me to add keywords is to select the photos I want to add keywords to, right click, and choose "add keywords". Then I'd be able to type int he words I want.
In iPhoto 08 I have to bring up the keyword window, then choose 'edit keywords' if there isn't already one there, and add it. It takes much to long. I used to use the Keyword Assistant plugin but it was not updated for iPhoto 08 (not an issue for this forum, I know).
Is there an easier way to add keywords in iPhoto? Is my logic backwards for ease of use?

In the View menu, check "Keywords" to show keywords under each photo.
Click in that field under the photo, and type in an existing keyword, or a new keyword
If you type in a new keyword and exit the field, the keyword gets created.
The next time you're in that field, the typeahead will suggest that keyword as you type. It will also be available in your Keyword window.
In the keyword window, if you drag the keyword you just created to the Quick Group part, it gets assigned a shortcut, and you can then use that shortcut to assign the keyword to a large selection. Very easy once you know, and get used to doing it a couple of times. I only use the Edit keyword window if I want to delete a keyword or change the shortcut key.

Importing Paint Shop Photo Album 4 keywords into iPhoto

I have many years worth of digital photos organized in folders and marked with Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album 4 keywords. Is there any way to import not just the photos, but the keywords into iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unless there's some way to get JPS to write the keywords into the files I don't know of any way to do what you want. An Applescript might be able to read the JPS dB file and write the keyword to the appropriate IPTC field in the file. But that's beyond my capability.

Aperture keywords and iPhoto and the iPod video error -50

A heads up for anyone who is moving photo's from Aperture to iPhoto. If you have use nested keywords in Aperture then you export to use in iPhoto ( since there is know iLife integration at this time)( also very poor on apples part ) you will get a error in iTunes -50 unknown error.
To fix this all you have to do is remove the offending keyword from iPhoto's master keywords list and you good to go. Wish it did not take me 2 full day to figure this out.

I actually did something similar. Except I dumped whole projects or split projects in two and then dumped one, until I was left with 1 project with only 1 image. Took a few hours but finally found one image who's caption seemed to be corrupt (had garbage character at the front). Once I deleted the caption (had to do it in GraphicConverter) it all worked. The photo was part of a set of photos that I had imported from iPhoto, so I definitely think it has something to do with Aperture's iPhoto import. So not quite the same issue as you, but I think probably related.

Keyword in iphoto

I am using keywords in iphoto to organize my photos. Example: I tag a photo "cards". Then the next photos the keyword "cards" is automatically there. It is a pain to constantly delete it. I know I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what or how to fix it.

What version of iPhoto?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.
