Workbench Validation wrongly reports a variable as not referenced

When I run validation on my process in workbench, I get a warning [WBP-170] Warning: The variable '[name of var]' is not referenced in the process '[name of process]'. The variable is referenced in a query single action using the syntax where you embed the variable in the sql to execute using {$ /process_data/@[name of var] $}. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Anyone know where I can report the bug?

I very much that the process validator will detect embedded xpath expressions. This is probably just a limitation of the validator.

  • Matrix Report with variable@incontext not working

    I had built a matrix report, using variable@incontext. I'm having a problem with my cell data. It seems that it is always using the value from the first record in the column instead of the actual value.
    ie in the example below, the data should make it come out like:
    Staff____01____02____03______
    Bob_____Bob_________Bob
    John____John__John___John
    Joe_____Joe___Joe____Joe
    but it's coming out like this (the data for John is wrong in column1 and 3 and the data for Joe is wrong in all columns) :
    Staff____01____02____03______
    Bob_____Bob_________Bob
    John____Bob___John___Bob
    Joe_____Bob___John___Bob
    Staff Column(Down):
    <?for-each-group:ROWSET2_ROW;./STAFF_NAME?><?variable@incontext:STAFF;STAFF_NAME?>
    <?STAFF_NAME?>
    Number Column (Across)
    <?for-each-group@cell://ROWSET2_ROW;PERIOD?>
    <?sort:current-group()/PERIOD;'ascending';data-type='text'?>
    <?if:count(current-group()[STAFF_NAME=$STAFF])?><?STAFF_NAME?><?end if?>
    <?end for-each-group?>
    <?end for-each-group?>
    It looks like the value for '$STAFF' and ?STAFF_NAME are not right when there was data in a previous column.
    Can anybody Help me?

    Hi,
    Can you please help me to solve the problem.
    Thanks in Advance

    In https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/Crystal%20Reports%20and%20BW%20query%20elements stated that the "Text variable" with "replacement path" is supported, but i don't know in my query is not working.

  • 10.1.3.1 - Wrong syntax red flag does not appear for undefined variables

    I installed 10.1.3.1 and I noticed something strange.
    In 10.1.3.0 a very nice feature was the indication, with a red flag, of wrong instructions.
    Now, when a variable is not defined, the red flag doesn't appear and I see the error only at compile time.
    Did I miss something during conversion ?
    Is it a bug ?
    Tks
    Tullio

    I was getting this problem, and diagnosed and fixed the issue in my case. This was after checking the audit preferences and finding they were correct.
    The problem was that I had migrated from an installation of 10.1.3.0 that had developed the problem described in Jdev plugins cause StackOverflow exception on startup of 10.1.3 .
    JDev 10.1.3.1 doesn't display the exception on startup, but it seems still to mess up the way it reads your preferences--quite significantly. That seems to have worked for me.
    If others have this problem and migrated under similar circumstances, try the solution suggested on that thread (removing just the <Item> tags that mention scm, not all of them, which causes even worse problems).

  • Interactive Report Bind variable not working ?

    Hello,
    i am new to APEX and trying to find how to use APEX Interactive Reports them with bind variables. So, i have created one with the following query:
    SELECT i1.if_bic_code, b.bicname, count(*) cnt
    FROM IF_DATA i1, bic b
    WHERE i1.if_bic_code = b.biccode(+)
    AND i1.insert_date BETWEEN :P40_X1 AND :P40_X2
    GROUP BY i1.if_bic_code, b.bicname
    The Report is supposed to show a count of submissions per bic_code (=bicname) from the table IF_DATA for the specified time period.
    These 2 bind variables are actually 2 Items in the same region, using a Date Picker for them. They have no initial values. So, the report initially displays no records. After either using the Date Picker or manually entering values in these 2 Items, and pressing Go button still displays no rows. Am i missing something here? It seems that either the query is not submitted again to database, or the bind variables are not taken the values entered to them.
    TIA

    I tried with the date mask you proposed with no success though. It seems that it does not take into consideration the values of those items (variables) and i am wondering whether i have missed any step in this. The items are also of Date type with those settings for them under Source Group:
    Source Used
    Always, replacing any existing value in session state Only when current value in session state is null
    Source Type
    Static Assignment (value equals source attribute)
    My aim is to filter the rows in the where statement through these variables(items), so this way letting the user specify the range and also display the report with the grouped values. The date field (insert_date) is not part of the Select part of the sql statement.
    Also if i eliminate the date part of the where clause of the sql statement, the report displays correctly, but of course with the full date range, which is not what i want.

    The recommendation is to exclude those files from being backed-up, not to delete them!
    Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required:
    Yes, that's a bit misleading.  It just means that will be done, if it's required, which it isn't on your backups.
    I have no idea if anything actually was changed however just when I had given up and walked away, TM has started working after a week of failing.
    It probably did find and fix something.  Just for reference, Disk Utiltiy usually shows the progress and repair messages in the center part of the window, but often doesn't when repairing a sparse bundle on a network.  You can see the messages at any time by clicking the Log icon in the toolbar, or select Window > Show Log from the menubar.
    Anyway, glad it's sorted out!

  • Report prints Saved Data not Refreshed Data

    We were running VS 2005 and using the Basic CR 2005 Basic that comes with it.  We upgraded to use CR 2008 and found MANY issues after we went live in production that were apparent in the development.  This has caused a lot of stress with us as well as our users.  Iu2019ll summarize everything we found, possible workarounds and the open issues including the Printing/Loading of Saved Data.
    First, it was reported that printing changed.  It turns out when PrintMode = u2018PDFu2019 (default setting) it now asks after you choose u2018EXPORTu2019 (use to be u2018OKu2019) that it asks to Open or Save the Adobe.  When our customers were running 20 some reports at a time and we had hundreds of users, this became a nuisance for the heavy reporting users and a training issue in general for us.  With research, I found that we can change the PrintMode to be u2018ActiveXu2019.  This was much better when we were testing.  However, in Production it became a nightmare.  If the user is on a Domain that disallows itu2019s user from installing software or if the user has tight security settings, this became a nightmare.
    The second thing reported was that it was exporting to the wrong format.  It was exporting into RPT format.  It turns out with CR2008, it automatically defaults to RPT and the new pop-up, doesnu2019t isnu2019t clear to the user they even have a choice (the pop-up is much prettier, but it doesnu2019t look like a dropdown anymore).  In addition, they reported it was taking twice as long to export (we think it was related to export file type now).  With CR2005 Basic, it would have no default selection and if the user didnu2019t pick one, it would remind them they need to pick one.  After much research, I found there is no way to customize the operation of the export without writing my own export.  My users 90% of the time want to export to PDF and Excel the rest of the time.  Since we arenu2019t using a CR Server like product, they NEVER will do RPT.  There is no way with CR2008 to limit this list or to default the File Format.  So now, if they forget to select the type, they get the wrong file format instead of being reminded to select one.  Since the new pop-upu2019s dropdown selection isnu2019t easily apparent, this was a BIG issue for us.  Since I have close to 300 reports on 7 websites, this will be a lot of work for me to write my own code and change all the ASPX page to use my own control.
    The third thing reported was that the default name on Exporting was changed.  Export uses the ID property of the Crystal Report Viewer as the default name of a file on export.  When it replaced the viewer on all our pages, it set the ID to CrystalReportViewer1 instead of preserving the original ID.  We now have to go back and change them to what we wanted manually.  BEAWRE of this!  For our power users who wanted to export 40 reports they now have type the name in manually on all of them.  What took minutes now takes over an hour for them to do, until we can fix all the pages.
    Now it was reported that some reports are showing OLD data.  It turns out there shows Saved Data from design time.  In our site, we have a parameter page which getu2019s user selected parameters, save to a session and then load the report page using the session variables, and then redirect them to the report page which on page load we set the reports parameters.  We use the CrystalReportSource using ODBC.  The report has all the connection information.  Well if the user happens to select the same parameters I used at design time, it wonu2019t pull the data from the database.  They see our test data instead which is garbage.  If they select different parameters, display the report and then go back and select the original parameters, they will get the correct data.  This can be catastrophic for us!  So I added at the beginning of the Page Load before setting parameters the following:
         If Not Page.IsPostBack Then
                CRSServiceAlertsReport.ReportDocument.Refresh()
         End If
    This seemed to work.  A pain to add on every report page though when it wasnu2019t necessary before.  But then I just got called this morning and they say when they print, it prited the OLD data.  It seems the refresh pulled new data and updated the display in the viewer but the ActiveX print still used the original Saved Data!  I couldnu2019t find a solution for this.  I found switching PrintMode back to u2018Pdfu2019 worked but now I have the extra click issue again, which I described above.  I tried setting the reports u2018Discard Saved Datau2019 option but it still had the data!
    In the end, had I known about all these issues I would have NEVER upgraded to CR2008.  Iu2019m still looking for help on getting by the following:
    u2022     Stop using Saved Data at runtime (either on Display or Print)
    u2022     Getting the PrintMode=u2019Pdfu2019 to just pull up Adobe in Open mode without prompting the user.
    u2022     Remove File Type options from Export
    u2022     Set the default File Type options to nothing or something I want.
    Another nice feature to have would be the ActiveX control for printing to be part of the .NET Framework so users donu2019t need to download it.  Come on BO is a big company Iu2019m sure they can work with MS.  

    What is that method to clear Saved Data; I looked and couldn't find it.  I never had to call one in the prior version of CR 2005 Basic in .Net.  With the .NET controls, it always refreshed the data before.  This is a change in behavior for me.
    As for the Print using Adobe, with CR2005 Basic, it didn't prompt the user to Open or Save before.  This is new behavior.  It used to just open the report in Adobe in memory before without this specific prompt (it did have the first prompt for All or specific pages, but it would just open after that).  This is a change in behavior from prior versions and it has caused me several issues.
    Many users don't like change and I didn't know to communicate this to them.  They were taken by surprise.  We'll learn to live it I guess, but I would ask you just to consider, why have an option to "Save" to PDF when you choose to print?  I would think you would use Export if you want to save.  It would never hurt to add an option to allow alternatives either.
    As for including with .NET Framework, it was just an idea.  I know how hard it can be working with third parties.  However, given that CR Basic comes with it, I thought it may be possible to work with them.  The better the integration the better the product is for the developers.  I was thinking the button could call JavaScript/Java to print instead of an ActiveX, or some other method.  Since I donu2019t know how the Control works, I couldnu2019t say.  It just would be nice.  I had a smiley face after that request, it didn't come out right when I saved the post.
    I still don't understand why .Refresh will update the data in the viewer but printing using the ActiveX Control will still print the saved data instead of refreshed data.  Since I never used this in the prior version I don't know what it would of done or not, but it just doesn't seem right it shows one set of data, and prints another.
    In addition, why the designer still saves data with the report when you state not to, I think may be a problem still.

  • Best Practice for report output of CRM Notes field data

    My company has a requirement to produce a report with variable output, based upon a keyword search of our CRM Request Notes data.  Example:  The business wants a report return of all Service Requests where the Notes field contains the word "pay" or "payee" or "payment".  As part of the report output, the business wants to freely select the output fields meant to accompany the notes data.  Can anyone please advise to SAP's Best Practice for meeting a report requirement such as this.  Is a custom ABAP application built?  Does data get moved to BW for Reporting (how are notes handles)?  Is data moved to separate system?

  • Why an "ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist" error when no dynamic SQL?

    Hi all,
    While running PL/SQL in SQL Developer 3.2.09, I got the following error after adding a section of code. Note that nothing I'm doing has anything to do with dynamic SQL (which is what 01006 is supposedly about).
    Error report:
    ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist
    01006. 00000 - "bind variable does not exist"
    *Cause:
    *Action:
    After commenting out the new chunk of code that caused the error, the error persisted.
    After deleting the new code, the error went away.
    What the heck!?!? If you have any ideas, please lay 'em on me.
    Thanks so much,
    Kim
    P.S. It's a few hundred lines of code, so I didn't append it to this post and I don't see how to attach a file.

    Let's review a few facts:
    1. You post a question in the sql developer forum that has no apparent relation to sql developer. You could confirm this by doing the test using sql*plus or some other tool.
    2. You provide NO information about what database you are even using. The only clue is an ORA -xxx message that means SOME version of Oracle is involved.
    3. You provide NO information about what the four digit version of Oracle DB is being used.
    4. You provide NO information about what the code in general or what that specific section of the code is even doing. The code could be doing literally anything that Oracle is capable of doing.
    That's a bit like calling a mechanic you don't know, telling them your car is making a funny noise and asking them what the problem with your car is.

    Your first clue that your troubleshooting method is seriously flawed is when you make statements that aren't supported by any evidence at all but appear to be nothing but your opinion.
    Your second clue is when those statements appear to directly contradict what Oracle is telling you.
    I'm talking about these two statements you make; which you state as if they were universal truths
    >
    nothing I'm doing has anything to do with dynamic SQL

    >
    If thoe were true then your 'unstated' conclusion appears to be that Oracle is wrong in saying 'bind variable does not exist'
    Sorry - but I would place my money on Oracle.
    I'm sure the above may sound harsh - it is intended to be. My four major rules (there are more) when troubleshooting Oracle problems.
    1. Assume that Oracle is CORRECT when it tells you there is a problem.
    2. Assume that you are WRONG if your opinion conflicts with what Oracle is telling you - see rule #1.
    3. Don't make ANY other assumptions. You can form hypotheses but don't state them as facts until they are proven.
    4. Your 'opinion' is only useful to the extent that it can help you form meaningful hypotheses - see rule #3.
    >
    To reiterate, there is no dynamic SQL in the code.
    >
    To reiterate - if, as you state, that error relates to dynamic SQL and bind variables then it can not be disputed that:
    ORACLE DOESN'T AGREE WITH YOU!
    So let's try it my way and hypothesize that Oracle is correct (see rule #1 above).
    Then by definition this statement by Oracle is correct
    >
    ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist
    >
    And that should immediately raise this question:
    1. where might there be a bind variable that does not exist?
    which leads to a prerequisite question:
    2. where are ALL of the bind variables that might be being used?
    Question #2 is where you need to start your search. Here are at least five possibilities (there are more)
    1. your code - this should be easiest to check and you state that your 'anonymous' block does not have any.
    2. a table trigger - triggers that use the :NEW, :OLD or :PARENT pseudocolumns. Those psuedocolumns are BIND variables and the trigger code that uses them is, by definition, dynamic sql.
    3. a pl/sql package/function/procedure - any of these might be being called from trigger code or a view that is involved in the transaction. Any of these could take a parameter and/or use bind variables and cause your problem if that bind variable does 'not exist'.
    4. a functional index - can also trigger code from #3 above
    5. an audit trigger that logs the audit activity that your user or your code is performing. This code could be trying to use a SYS_CONTEXT environment variable that has not been created and cause a 'bind variable does not exist' error.
    See rule #1 - Oracle is CORRECT. Until you have identified and examined ALL of the code (not just your anonymous block) being executed and ruled it out you should continue with the hypotheses that Oracle is CORRECT.
    In the (extremely) unlikely event that you can show that Oracle is NOT correct you should file a SOR with Oracle.

  • Bind variable is not defined

    Hi, it is my first attempt to modify a rdf file.
    I run into a problem while trying to add an additional user parameter in an existing rdf file. While I am successful in adding a new FREQUENCY user parameter and I am able to update the form to show this new parameter, I am not able to run the report.
    I have updated the SQL query in the report editor, under data view to use this new parameter :FREQUENCY. (select ... from table where frequency= :FREQUENCY) There was no error here.
    Whenever I run the report, I will always get an error saying:
              "REP-0730: The following bind variable is not defined: "(nothing behind this                                                             error message)
    The program will have a memory error and it exits itself.
    I had tried many methods trying to solve this problem to no avail.
    I am using Oracle 9i Reports Builder 9.0.2.0.3.
    I would appreciate any help given on this matter.
    Thank you :)

  • How can I get past the error message "Variables are not compatible DMB00"?

    Hello,
    I'm working in Desktop Intelligence XI and I'm using an Excel data provider and a universe data provider. I've linked the two providers on the common field "Cost_Code". The Excel data provider also has a "Cost_Code_Descr_xls" field so I've created a new variable that makes this description field a detail object associated with the "Cost_Code" dimension. This allows me to use both objects in the report.
    Some of the cost codes in my universe data provider are not found in my cost_code Excel provider so I'm trying to create a simple formula to deal with these null values:
    = if isnull(<Cost_Code_Descr_xls>) then "Unclassified" else <Cost_Code_Descr_xls>
    This is where I get the "Variables are not compatible" error.
    Any ideas on how to get around this error?
    Thanks!
    David

    Hi David,
    I might have been a bit to quick with just saying that the only thing you needed to do was replacing the object with the variable you created.
    The variable is only compatible with 'Cost Code' dimension, but not with any of the other dimensions in the report. Your header probably only contains the 'Cost Code' dimension and as such the formula isn't giving any problems. But your details contain ohter incompatible dimensions.
    What you need to do is also create detail variables for the other dimensions and relate those to the 'Cost Code' dimension. Use those newly created detail variables  in your report.

  • In the filter the value of text variable is not shown, only technical name.

    Hi All,
    We have some odd behavior of text variables in the filter screen of key-figures.
    After entering values in the variable screen, the report is executed.
    Within the report all text variables are filled, with the values entered in the variable screen.
    I say all, because we use both sap standard variables &0T_FPER& as customer specific &ZFSCYR&.
    When i want to change the key figures showned, i press the filter icon for key-figures (BW 3.5)
    In the list shown: existing filtervalues, the textvariables of SAP standard are filled with the value entered in the variable screen. However the customer specific is shown with the technical name (&ZFSCYR&) and not the value.
    Has anyone experience with this behavior or even better a solution to prevent this?
    As allways, each usefull answer points assigned!
    Regards,
    René

    Hi Rene,
    If ur custom text variable is not getting populated then you need to check out the code that u have written in there in CMOD for this and ofcourse if ur using this text variable after report execution then it will definately be in i_step 2.
    So best way is to debug your code and check that using code RSRT.
    Thanks

  • Variable might not have been initialized, but I can't get around it...

    I'm getting a variable might not have been initialized error, and I know why, but I can't get around it. Basically, this snippet of my code is reading in a map file for a game. The first two lines of the map file are configuration information, and the rest is coordinates for the tiling graphics.
    while ((str = in.readLine()) != null) {

    I'm not including everything.. this should make sense. Impassable is a Point[].
    I can't say how big the Impassable list will be until it reads the second line of the map file. However, that happens in the first run-through of the file-reading processes.
    Is there a try/catch statement I can use to get past this?

    If you set that variable to null you will fix this
    error.
    Object obj;to
    Object obj = null;Beware this may cuase NullPointerExceptions, so you
    should check this variable for being null before you
    try to access it.That's usually the wrong way to approach this. Getting this compiler error is often a sign of a logic error. Only initialize the variable if it makes sense for the variable to have that value. Don't do it just to satisfy the compiler.
