Workbook protection issue

Hi All,
I have a template which is protected using excel protection and workbook options.
But when i insert any member into the templete the protection brokes.
Did anyone have experienced this issue.?? or is there anything that i am missing.
I want the templete to be in protection mode if the members are inserted into the templete.

Hi AK-
For worksheet protection, you need to use 'eTools->Workbook Options' dialogue to protect your sheet and set the
password.
If you use 'Tools->Protection->Protect Sheets' function of MS Excel itself, BPC Excel cannot modify the content of the sheet this results in various BPC functions failing.

Power Pivot enable Excel workbook protection with password?

Hi All
We have a power pivot deployment without SharePoint in excel 2013 professional plus. All woks fine until we use a password to protect excel workbook so unauthorised users cannot open it. After enabling password protection we cannot access the power pivot
data model under power pivot excel tab. It tries to upgrade the power pivot model(which is not logical because it didn't do it before and was working fine). thereafter upgrade fails.
Has anyone successfully password protected a power pivot excel 2013 workbook? Is there a workaround to enabling security without SharePoint/office 365 etc?

Hi Sonny,
PowerPivot does not support row security or dynamic security. Security for a workbook is just a binary choice – either a user can read a workbook or she can’t.
In this case, I would suggest you consider designing Tabular model which can be secured using row security and dynamic security is also supported. For more information, please see:

DVD copyright protection issues ( G3Ti200 Pro-TD(MS-8851)

Maybe some of you have already experienced this. But I just installed an internal DVD player in my PC with "Power DVD" software. I was quite happy playing several different DVD's until recently when an error message came up stating: "The TV Out port of your display card is not working properly", and: "This copy protected disc can not be played when the TV out function is enabled".
Now I have had much problems in the past with TV out. Driver updates do not support the TV out function, and it in effect becomes disabled. However, in the VGA card bios it is still enabled by default. So I have a video card that says TV out doesn't work and a DVD player which says it does. BUT, there doesn't seem to be a tab or button anywhere in the configuration utility to disable it!
My question is: does anyone know of a regedit or any other means to disable the tv out function of my video card? Also: the move I was trying to watch was "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", practically speaking can anyone address which copyright software is causing this issue? Is this listed on the package? Does anyone know of other movies incompatible with your or my system?
MSI: this is also a question you need to address in that you are selling a product not compatible with its intended use.
Let's not lose sight of the real issue here people. This is nothing more than the largest companies in the world extorting even more money out of our already empty pockets. AOL-Time-Warner, Sony, Viacom, and so on, are stealing our money because they can and no one is stopping them. They took $5 of my money, and I wasn't even able to use their product.

I'm not familiar with your hardware, but here's a couple of things you could try.
TV-out is usually not enabled in the first place if there is no TV connected, so you could either boot without the TV connected, or disable it by disconnecting and then clicking on the "Detect Displays" button (at somewhere like Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> nVidia). Note that the test for presence of a TV is a fairly simple resistance measurement, which will detect a connected TV or VCR etc., even if it is switched off.
Hopefully, the copy protection will then not think that you are trying to copy the DVD to a VCR connected to the TV out port. (Naturally, no-one would ever think of using an external VGA-TV converter )
TVTool is also worth checking out at http://www.tvtool.de - although it might not work with your hardware.

BEx 7 Workbook Template Issue

Dear Gurus!
Has anybody experience with designing an excel master template in BEx 7?
I have designed a template on basis of a query, created a corporate theme, positioned the design items, inserted a logo etc. and saved the workbook on the BW server. When I have assigned this workbook as a global template. So far it works fine.
Now I have 2 problems:
1) If users run a query, but do not have authorization for the query the master template is based on, the data provider gets no query assignment hence the workbooks shows no result.
If I leave the data provider assignment blank or remove the data provider from the design items, it does not work neither.
2) How can I provide the corporate theme to the users that they can choose it without beeing able to change it? We have a lot of users which are creating local workbooks for special purposes.
The authorization object S_RS_TOOLS provides editing rights, hence is no solution for a reporting only user?

Oh, I agree completely. I am still struggling with the same issue. I did put a query in the template to which all users have access, but the silly thing pops up a variable entry screen and then is somehow magically gone.

Workbook Printing Issues???

Most of the clients work on Discoverer Plus so that they can develop & manage workbooks. But when it comes to printing Plus is missing a vital feature of Print Preview. I checked its available in Desktop version & Viewer but why its missing in Plus??? Is there any specific reason for not providing this feature for plus or its just a forgotten issue?? Though oracle says that Plus is more powerful which is true in some cases.
We are working on Disco 4i.

SSP broke my LOV :-( - Session State Protection Issue

Hi Folks.
I'm tinkering with SSP on my application.
Here's the challenge du jour.
If I enable SSP across the entire application I can't even log in. That was resolved by setting the login page to 'Unrestricted'. not sure of the security implication of doing that but bear with me.
My main Issue is this.
I am using Patrick's APEXLIB for Cascading LOV functionality.
My Parent LOV works fine.
My Child LOV is blank.
I have modified everything on the page to 'Unrestricted' and still I end up with a blank child LOV.
Any ideas how to skin this cat?

OK so here's how i 'fixed' this issue. I say fixed but I would welcome any comments regarding the security impact of the 'fix' I came up with.
First of all I enabled SSP across the entire application
Page Access Protection = Arguments Must have Checksum
Application Item Protection = Checksum required - Session level
Page Data Entry Item Protection = Checksum required - Session level
Page Display-Only Item Protection = Checksum required - Session level
This had the desired effect of applying these settings to everything.
Having done that I needed to update the SSP to Patrick Wolf's Application Items in the following way...
APEXLIB_REFERENCE_ID = Unrestricted
APEXLIB_REFERENCE_TYPE = Unrestricted
As a side note, I noticed that the Application Item FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL was also set to Unrestricted. I guess this is enforced by APEX to allow successful login to the application. All other application items were set to Checksum Required - Session Level as per the cross-application configuration I had initially done.
Finally I had to review the pages that had the cascading LOVs that no longer functioned. For these pages I had to set the "Item Session State Protection" to Unrestricted for the poll down LOVs used in the Cascading LOV process. Parent LOVs and Child LOVs.
The end result is that I have pretty tight SSP enabled across the entire application. The only areas where it is 'Unrestricted' are some of the cascading LOVs.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who would care to comment on the security weaknesses this approach may have created.
I will update this thread if the SSP enabling has affected anything else in the application. So far though, it's only the Cascading LOVs.

Recommended Action
Select a different cloud, enable protection for the cloud, or change the requested recovery point objective for the virtual machine to a value greater than or equal to NO_PARAM seconds, and then try the operation again.

Microsoft has not provided me with much support on this issue, but I was able to resolve this myself. What you need to do is remove the DR Protection attribute from your VM using the command below.

It is important to note that this command does nothing, unless the Azure Site Recovery provider is installed on your VMM server, and your VMM server is registered in ASR. Once I had run this command against my virtual machines, I was able to uninstall the
provider and unregister my server from ASR. Now my VM's are free to live migrate again.

Workbook updating issue

I modify the querys of workbook in BI7.0, however, after reinserted the query to workbook, then save as this workbook with the input parameters, however, I reopen this workbook, the result is always same as the first result, even I use another query conditiion. do you know the root cuase? Thanks.

There is not default valuefor the input parameters, I found another issue, as normal process, when the workbook opened, then a dialog popup to input parametes, this is the first step 1 in the enhancement function module, after click to query, then step changed to 2 and 3 in the enhancement function module, do you know the root cuase? thanks.

Blackberry Protect Issues

Running OS 6 on a Bold 9780 and everything is working fine except Blackberry Protect. The App runs ok and backs up without errors but when you try and contact the handset from the protect.blackberry.com website, you get the error "Unable to communicate with your device" most of the time. I say most of the time because if you start Protect app and then select the "Restart Blackberry Protect" menu option, the message (or sound) you have requested earlier comes through.
I have just updated to the latest official Vodafone UK o/s (706) and no change. Seems to be a OS 6 and/or 9780 thing: we have two other BB's in the house (8900 and 9810) and Protect works fine on these (same network)

Sorry...to be clear...this is a message sent via the BB Protect website to the BB, via the BB Protect app itself? (This would be as opposed to an email sent, a BBM sent, etc.)

I agree...it should not have an affect. BB Protect follows the pathway that BIS is using, and BIS is designed to shift between WiFi and carrier data network depending on what is available. It can take a few moments for BIS to fully shift over, but since you say no other BIS-dependent services are affected, I can't see how the shift itself is causing this affect to Protect.
However, another test to conduct would be to boot up into Safe Mode and see if the issue remains:

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. It is possible that some 3rd party apps are causing some impact, and Safe Mode will prevent them from launching, and perhaps provide you with the ability to at least rule that in or out.
You should also fully research the most recent OS levels available for your devices...the on-device OS update capability limits you to only those OS's released by your specific carrier...but you are not limited to those. You can research other carriers OS levels here:

Unfortunately, that official site is sorted first by carrier, so you will have to spend some time digging to figure out which carriers support your model BBs, and then see what OS levels they have. If you find an OS package that you desire to use from another carrier and you don't already have/know the necessary steps to take in order to use it on your BB, then just ask and we can provide you with the proper instructions.

Yes...and I see no impacts when shifting between carrier data network and WiFi. However, I do have my Protect set to only conduct backups via WiFi (so as to preserve my carrier data network consumption).

Workbook Migration Issues

There will be various issues like; Format issue( lost format, vba,macro codes etc.), design Issues etc.
To retain the fromat after migrating the workbook to 7.0: I did this, in following way:
-save it. At this stage the format is going to be exactly same as 3.x workbook. If you start refreshing, you loose format.
-Go to design mode and deselect 'apply format' option and save it again. Here you can see that you have lost the format.
-Format it again and save it.
-This will work now when you refresh. Refreshing takes.

Administrator Password Protected issue

When I start my laptop i starts normally for some time and again suddenly says incorrect password, but i have disabled the password. and when i check my user account i says administrator is password protected please help me with this issue. i don't want any password .. need a help thankyou

Preview/Adobe PDF password protection issue

I have a pdf file that is password protected to be able to view the content. The protection works as it should in Adobe Reader. However, when I open the file in Preview I can see the first page, but the rest are unviewable. The page thumbnail on the right is just a placeholder, not an actual thumbnail and when you navigate to those pages the actual page appears as a ? in a box.
Any suggestions as to what is going on or how to make this work properly?

Just to register that it seems to be really a problem with Preview. I had a similar problem too. I had a secure PDF (no doc assembly, no page extraction, no commenting, no filling form, no signing, no creation of template pages) and it opens as expected in Acrobat Reader 9, but in Preview, all pages ate blank, and the thumbs are absent, with only the first page being seen as a blank one. I tried to open it in Acrobat Reader 8 and it says that it couldn't open the document because it couldn't decrypt it. I guess that Acrobat 9 has some new encryption scheme that is incompatible with previous versions, including Apple's Preview.
I'd like to know if a fix for this is planned.

Workbook performance issue

Hi All
I have a query which is taking around 5 minutes to return output in RSRT. Whereas the workbook built over the query is taking almost 4-5 hours to return the output. I created a new same workbook but that is also taking the same time.
The query is having three hierarchies and the query structure is same a workbook.
I already have ANA_USE_SIDGRID entry in RS_FRONTEND_INIT with 'X' initialization.
Could you please suggest something to enhance the workbook performance?

Hi,
If its in Bex 7.0, check how many data providers are assigned to your workbook.
Go to Bex Analyzer Toolbox -> Workbooks Settings -> Data Providers
Check if a single data provider is not assigned with multiple names. This will impact the workbook performance badly.
Ensure that one data provider is there with one name only (e.g. If 4 queries are assigned to your workbook then there must only 4 data providers.)

Workbook broadcasting issue

Hi, am trying to broadcast one of my workbook through Bex broadcaster and it aint seems to be working. Though there is no error message or termination of process the job keeps on running.
We are in an environment of BI release 7.0. Few of our workbooks which are running for the past 2 years still works fine. This problem we face is only for newly created workbooks. We kept the same settings as the old ones still not able to overcome this.
is there any specific settings that needs to be maintained in Precal server or in BEX to over come this. Pls help.

Since 10.4.10: iLife Apps don't quit, system slow, protection issue, no QT

Hello.
Since upgrading to 10.4.10 I've been experiencing a number of weird happenings, which I'll list below under their respective application names.
Address Book
Launches and works fine, but won't quit normally. Gives the spinning beach ball of death and shows as 'not responding' on the Force Quit menu. I then need to force quit it. I first reverted to an old edition of my AB but the problem didn't go away. I noticed after repairing permissions that I didn't have access to the Address Book plugins directory. I reset the permission for that file but the problem didn't go away.
Safari
Won't quit normally, just like AB. Also, it is slow, slow, slow. I mean like 56k slow, though I have DSL. Firefox seems to work fine. The Quicktime plugin doesn't work in Safari, displays only the 'Q' with a superimposed question mark.
Quicktime
Seems to work on its own.
Mail
Sometimes has to be force-quit. I use a POP account and it is working normally, though it's noticeably slower than normal.
iCal
Launches and works fine, but usually needs to be force-quit.
The other iLife application are either not used by me or I haven't noticed a problem. The first thing I did when the problems appeared was to run Tech Tool, Macscan, and to repair permissions in Disk Utility. None turned-up any problems. I then reinstalled Tiger from CD onto an external drive, ran s/w update, and copied my files over to the external drive. The same issues occur even when I boot from that drive. I haven't seen any other posts quite like this one, so I wonder if the problem is related to the upgrade or s/t else. I haven't been able to think of what that might be, however.
I'm not sure what I should do next.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, my subscription to this thread did not email your post to me as requested ... but enuff excuses.
The issue could be in your preferences, but so many apps are involved you'd need to be careful on that one. If you trash your mail prefs, then you'd need to set up your mail account(s) again AND you'd lose any emails you have saved over time. Same for address book etc. if not careful.
So ... lets start with this. These apps all have some interaction with the web. I'd start by trashing your caches folder. Its full of temperary files that will reproduce themselves over time anyway. If one or more of those files were to be corrupt, or not work in 10.4.10, then you know what can happen ... you're living it right now.
Go ahead and trash ~/Library/Caches (the Caches folder inside your Library folder inside the home folder), reboot for luck and see if the issue(s) repeat.
Let me know how it goes.
