I have created the workbook based on the couple of Queries which has a single variable assign, but when iam executing the workbook iam uanble to get the variable input screen can anyone will guide whats wrong. when iam executing individual query i can able to see the input screen

Refreshing Workbook
Thank you very much for your reply.
I tried as suggested.
When I untick the "Display variable only once" since I have around 20 sheets all its variables though are same comes up in single popup 20 times.
If I give value only to Data provider 1 then it wont execute
I unchecked process variable on refresh too.
It just doesnt refresh separate sheets.
Any idea ??
Is it working in your system ?

Bex Workbook variables

Hi All,
We have a couple of variables included in our report:
Fiscal Year
Posting period
We are populating these fields using a customer exit that is based on the current system date and this works well for queries.
The problem is that when we use the workbook the customer exit variable values are not flowing through to the workbooks variable screens as the workbooks were already saved with a different Fiscal Year and Posting period selection and this now seems to be overwriting the customer exit variables.
Is it possible for the customer exit value to override the saved workbook value for the Fiscal year and Posting Period without making the variables optional and saving them as blank in the workbook?

Start---BEx Analyzer--
Create new work book.While executing the work book,it is asking me to enter variable values.Once the variables are given and when start executing it, i am getting the ouput correctly and when i broadcast the same through email,in work precalculation tab, again it is asking me to enter variable values.I have done that and executed. But I am not able to receive any email.Infact,after taking 3 mnts it showing Timed out error.Kindly,suggest me with a solution to this. Where should I exactly enter variables?

Error while opening Workbook:variables for characteristic cannot be process

Hi all,
When I try to open the workbook for a particular query, I am getting the following error. Kindly suggest me in rectifying this information message.
"Variables for characteristic [ZDVCODE]Dealer code cannot be processed"

I am encountering a very similar warning, so this may shed some light on the matter. I have a Web Application that runs just fine when it is filtered only by Calendar Day. However, when I filter the Web Application by Calendar Day and Material Group both, then I get a warning at the top of the output that says "Variables for characteristic [0CALDAY]Calendar Day cannot be processed".
So, at least in my case, the variable isn't deleted, and it actually works just fine buy will spit out this warning under these circumstances.

Clear variables in BEx WorkBook variable screen BI 7.0

Hi BI Experts,
I have developed some workbooks for the users to run the reports and one thing they are complaining is they have a predefined variable screen that pops up everytime they run the report.
I have tried every option in the Work book settings hoping that it will work ..but I didnt find any.....
I would appreciate with full points if you'll could share your experiences in this regard.

You might want to look at SAP Notes 1274084 and 1292295. We are having the same problem, and based on these notes we are planning to upgrade to BI Java SP 19 in an attempt to resolve the issue. If anyone has done or does this before we get around to it, would appreciate input on whether this resolves the problem. Otherwise, I will post our results once we have upgraded.
BTW -- We are not able to apply these patches to BI directly with SNOTE because we have implemented the BI Java stack on the Enterprise Portal and not on the BI server.

Broadcasting Workbooks Variable Assignments Question

We have several Workbooks that are being broadcast. The majority use Fiscal period and Fical year as input variables. Right now we have to manually go in and update the variable assignments for these broadcast every week.
Question -
Without have to setup a new custom variable in the queries that will default to the current week and year, is there a way to update the broadcast variables automatically with the current fiscal period and year?

As with any normal query - cmod the variable so it defaults to last week, current week based on sy-datlo or sy-datum and then find the last week
The broadcast setting will then fire with whatever has been defaulted

Order of workbook variables is different to order in query

Hi Friends,
I have a curious situation. When I open one of my workbooks then I see the order of my variables is different o the order of these variables in the underlying query.
Does or did anyone have the same issue seen so far ?.
To be honest, it worked before I made the following change in my query:
- First I had my fiscal year variable in the global filter but the variable was at first position in the query and it was also in the workbook.
- Then I removed the variable from global filter and added it back into characteristics. I moved it into first position of the variable order again.
However, since then my workbook shows this variable at the end of list !!!!
I already rremoved and moved the query back into the worbook but no positive change so far.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

We also faced the same kind of issue some time back in our project and we simply recreated the workbook and it got resolved.
I think some time workbook doesn't acquire query changes automatically, you can regenerate the workbook and check.

Disabling workbooks variable cache

Hi,
when i open a workbook on BEx Analyser and on variables selection I introduce a date, then I open a new workbook with the same variable it offers the last selected date as default.
Is there any way to disable this cache functionality ?

Workbook is not displaying the 2nd variable

Hi experts,
I have a workbook with 4 queries, 2queries are having variable1 and another 2 queries are having variable 2.
when I run a workbook , pop up is displaying only variable1. Variable 2 is not displaying.
when I run queries individually variables are working.But while running workbook variable 2 is missing.
Till last month it was good. From this month Iam facing this problem.
Suggest me your valuable points.

Sometimes the Workbooks get corrupted,just transport them once again to PROD or send that WB to the user and save it in his Desktop and ask him to run it.
Also try to run the query individually and check.

Authorization variable not filled with authorization values

Hello All
I post a similar message earlier this week, I thought that my issue was solved, but it was not.
I've got a workbook with 4 differents queries.
There as an authorizations variable in each query. This variable properties is as follows :
**General tab**
Type of variable : characteristic value
Processing type : authorization
Characteristic : company code
**Details**
Variable represents : selection options
Variable is : optional
Variable is ready for input : yes
I've followed recommandations from OSS notes 976680
My issue is : if I run each query individually, variable is filled with authorized values
If I run the workbook, variable is not filled with authorized value, so when end user run the workbook, BW consider that end user wants to see all data and get "No authorization".
I don't understand why variable within the workbook doesn't show the authorized values and why the queries do.
Any suggestion about this issue ????

I ran the query with UserID from RSECADMIN and I could open the query. But if I want to select 0profit_ctr I get this error No authorization to characteristic values.
I checked the log and this is the message.

Workbook Views are not getting refreshed

Hi Folks,
We have a workbook in PRD, in which we have 5 tabs. All these tabs are containing different views from different queries. Each tab contains 3 or 4 views from the corresponding query .
The problem here is when we move from one period to another period then all the views are showing data for the current period except the views in tabs 3 and 4.
In workbook variable input screen we have six variables and out of which couple of variables are for year and version, these variables are having default values. Some one told me that the issue is because of default values. If that is the case then the entire workbook should not show any data as all the views are having more or less the same variables.
Not sure what the issue is? please advise what needs to be done?

I have checked the given notes but they did not help me much even though the issue is related them. I am getting some Active X error while trying to open the query after downloading the SAPBEX from the notes. We are in BI7.0 so I hope we should not get the problems mentioned in these notes.
PLease let me know whether there is any note which applies for SAP BI7.0.

Error when opening a workbook with mandatory variables

BEx analyzer displays an error message window in the same time as the variable popup window.
The worbook is linked to 1 query that uses 2 mandatory variables (month ?, year ?), and was defined in the test system.
I assume that values are thus saved within the workbbok.
The developper had 0bi_all autorisation.
When a reporting user is opening it (also in the test system), the error message is displayed.
This happens only the 1st time when Analyzer is started, and by clicking on the OK button, we are able to run the query.
The next workbook refresh runs without the error message display.
Question = does anybody know the reason of this, and how to avoid the error message ?
more infos:
error message E019(R9E) appears for each variable (thus, 2 time with a query with 2 variables):
Help type 5 is not valid for the platform NONE
Exception 5 occured while calling IWB_HTML_HELP_URL_GET
the details of this error message is:
Diagnosis
   You tried to start the online help with help type on platform. Help type is not supported on this platform.
System Response
   Profile parameter eu/iwb/help_type must contain a valid help type.
Diagnosis
   The documentation is not correctly connected to the BI server.
System Response
   The documentation cannot be displayed.

i checked the query and authorisation with RSRV, but this didn't help, furthermore, a lot a functions are not implemented in the system, sorry.
i also changed the query and workbook, and i think that it depends on the workbook release 3.x or 7.
imagine following situations: same query 7.0, same workbook 7.0
with BI7
1) opening the query with variables doesn't display the error message
2) refreshing the workbook with the query with variables displays the error message (only for a non mandatory variable - as soon as there is a variable, the error message is displayed)
3) refreshing the workbook with the query without variables doesn't display the error message
with BW 3.x
4) refreshing a new workbook 3.x with the query with variables doesn't display the error message
i also investigate in the function modules for workbooks (RS...), but nothing helped.
i still think that it is linked to authorisations, because with sap_all, the message isn't displayed.
how can i continue ?

Variable Refreshment Problem in Workbook

Hi Experts,
We have a workbook for Price Definition Planning (Using SAP IP).
There is one Navigational Attribute called u2018Category Segmentu2019 (for Planning Product) as a dropdown item which populates new records in workbook.
If we run the workbook for first time after giving the required variable input value for category segment suppose u2018Chocolateu2019, it works as intended.
But the problem is that , if next time we change the variable value for the same to different one suppose u2018Cookiesu2019, its not showing me the records of that u2018Cookiesu2019 segment in the analysis item. Itu2019s still showing the previous records i.e. for u2018Chocolateu2019 only rather than Cookies.
We checked the option for variable refreshment as well as workbook refreshment. But the problem still persists.
If anyone has any idea about this, please do share it.

hi.
check if your user has personalized the variables, because they won't show up if he refreshes. you have to call up the variable screen explicitly by using the option from the menu and then you can change the personalization setting.

Workbook does not contain any input-ready variables

Hello Experts,
We have one workbook which is not reacting when click on REFRESH or SHOW VARIABLE.
If clicked on VARIABLE screen it is throwing error "The workbook does not contain any input-ready variables" (screenshot attached)
Points I have checked are as below
1. If I create a new workbook by executing the respective query and refresh then it is working.
2. The file is in xls format and I have checked the USE XLS format under Global setting.
3. My Excel version is 2010. SAP version is SAPKW70105. BEx 7.X, support package 8.
4. It is not authorization issue otherwise the issue would have happened for the new workbook I created for testing.
5. Also I tested with user ID with SAP ALL access.
is there any way to repair the workbook so that it respond to Variable and refresh options ?

Workbook fetching buffer date in variable popup in BI 7.0

Appreciate ur respose in advance
I have an issue related to workbook it is taking the buffer date instead current date from the variable
i have tested the query with its variable popup .when we run it is showing the current date i.e; sysdate
and when the user runs the work book it fetches data from the cache it will not take the sysdate i.e; the cuurent date i have checked with all the technical settings with query and workbook as well
we are using a customer exit for 0calday varible
*fo example *when we open the work book it fetches the old date(previousdate) not the current date**
where as when we run the query it will display the variable popup with current date or sysdate

How to get variable value in BI 7.0 Workbook (Excel 2007)

Dear experts,
We are creating workbooks with BI 7.0 BEx Analyzer Addon 7.10 (Excel 2007).
And we'd like to get the variable value (that are passed to the backend using the variable screen) so that we can reuse it as an input value for planning function execution later.
Any idea on how we can achieve this is high appreciated.

I'm afraid I haven't made my question understood clearly.
What I am looking for is a method to get the value of variable inside excel (e.g. put it into a cell / range of a worksheet, so that we can reference it and use it as an input for planning function execution).
