  • Email:  Workflow and Task List Notification

    Hi,
    I am wondering whether the setting 'Workflow and Task List Notification' in application settings is functionality that I can use: I would like to setup the e-mail notifications for planning. One of the tasks on a standard task list that we would like end users to be able to do is to inform a particular user/group that a particular task has been completed. I would not like this task to be a workflow task, can e-mail notifications be sent for standard task list items?
    Options that I have reviewed:
    - Custom button on a dataform - not sure whether I can send parameters through to this, however I could use the form name as a description.
    - A *.jsp page that accepts two parameters 'Description / form name' and 'e-mail address' and the page then sends off an e-mail (Lotus Notes from WebLogic 9)
    - Workflow - although this inform task is not entity driven. Also the notifications are across plan types i.e. one cube enters in Information and then informs users of the second cube that figures are required - which we then import using xref.
    Any advice would be much appreciated. I know it can be done, I am just looking for the easiest way to implement this using standard planning functionality where possible.
    Kind Regards,

    The default email solutions in planning are using workflow or task lists, though the task lists are based on due dates.
    If you wanted a solution where an email is sent out when a task list is complete, then one route could be to have a business rule attached to a task list and then the business rule uses a custom CDF to send out email notication.
    If you are interested in sending emails from business rules then I did write a blog on the subject a while back.

  • What are the fundamental procurement workflows and tasks?

    A discussion has begun in the Knowledge Management branch of SAP about the [Help documentation for SAP Sourcing|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sourcing_wave7_p/helpdata/en/39/8ee60a3d74482e9e0111c46dc1e23d/frameset.htm]. Many feel that Help could better serve the needs of SAP Sourcing users if it were organized and written along the lines of the regular workflows and tasks performed by procurement professionals. Some questions arise from this discussion that would best be answered by the community of procurement professionals. That's you. Care to take a shot?
    What do you think about the idea of reorganizing Help according to procurement workflows?
    What exactly are the fundamental workflows and tasks you execute frequently toward the accomplishment of procurement goals?
    Take a look at the Table of Contents/navigation bar toward the left side of the SAP Sourcing Help page. Currently, its top-level topics are Getting Started, Workbench, Spend and Compliance, etc. If you could rename those top-level topics with the names of fundamental procurement workflows, what would you name them?
    Going down a level, what are the fundamental tasks you must execute within any of the fundamental procurement workflows mentioned above?
    Any input you'd give on these questions will help us improve how Help is organized and written as we go forward. It will be greatly appreciated.

  • Container element in task item text and task description inconsistent

    We use the purchase order release workflow 20000075: Workflow for release of purchase order
    The container element Release indicator (&_WI_Object_Id.ReleaseIndicator&) is used in the PO release effected task TS20000168 in work item text (title) and task desription (body text).
    When we release the PO a workflow notification is send to the PO creator, the title text shown Release indicator = Z (released) and task body text shown release indicator = Z (same).
    However, we do a cancel (undo) to the release of the PO, now when we view the same workflow nofication again the task work item text (title) shown Release indicator = Z (released) and task body text shown release indicator = X (blocked) -latest status.
    In this scenario the title text does not updated with the latest release indicator value, the task body text does. Task work item title text and task body text is inconsistent for the release indicator. When we view the workflow notification at this point is confused with the release indicator Z and X (approved in task tile  and Blocked in task body text).
    Please help how to resolve this issue, any way to make the body text release indicator does not change once the notification is generated??

    This is very weird!!!!!  I will suggest you to check the binding such that the PO Object is binded from Workflow to Task and viceversa.
    Thanks

  • Workflow Task Number and Email Description Can't be seen in QA Server

    Dear All,
                I have created a workflow; in which I want to send an email to management personnel, when someone change the quantity of Purchase requisition. It is working quite fine in Development server, but when this workflow is transported to test server, I cannot see the title, task and email description of that wokflow in SWDD. It is transported in 600, but task number description of email and title dissappeared. What can be the problem? What I have to do in this regards.
    Thanks.
    Sohail

    Hi,
    you should've send this to the appropriate forum (the workflow forum)
    I would first start by checking the transport logs to see if indeed everything is present in the QA server.
    Then I would check if everything is up and running in the QA server, espescially the workflow customizing.
    Then I would check if the appropriate background jobs for handling emails is running correctly.
    Then I would test if you can create a simple message in S00 or System-->short message and send that to you.
    If this doesn't solve it or give you directions I would create a message in the workflow forum explaining your situation.
    Kind regards, Rob Dielemans

  • Workflow Description Field truncation

    I was wondering if there was a work around to display more than 256 characters in the Approval workflow history list for column description? If, so how do you do it? I deployed a custom Approval workflow using SharePoint Designer 2010 and InfoPath. It
    is working really well just that when a user rejects an item they have to put a comment. In most cases it is below the 255 limit however, in some instances it is above. Any help is appreciated!

    Hi ams015,
    According  to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the limitation of the Description field in workflow history.
    The description field of a workflow history list is truncated when the number of characters used goes beyond 255. This behavior is a by-design limitation, SharePoint 2010 implements a restriction on the number of characters that can be used in a multiline
    text box. The reason is that the OLE property stream doesn't support more than 255 characters. Having more than 255 characters would cause problems demoting properties into documents.

  • Database link with the alias and full description in the connect string

    Hi,
    i have created database link with alias in tnsentry and full description
    and suppose i have removed the tnsnames.ora file what will be the impact on the database link that is whether database link will work or not i am sure db link created with alias won't work and how about db link created with full description and which one you prefer
    Thanks

    # Parameter file initora for Database prd
    ### Global database name is db_name.db_domain
    global_names = TRUE
    db_name = prd
    db_domain = world
    # TNSNAMES.ORA for prd ###############################
    prd.world = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = tcp.world)
    (PROTOCOL = TCP) (Host = 100.10.100.1) (Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = prd) (GLOBAL_NAME = prd.world)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)))
    Our database link points from the local database test to the remote database prd. Therefore we need the global database name for prd. Ask the remote database administrator for these information or connect to prd and execute the following query on prd:
    SQL> select GLOBAL_NAME from GLOBAL_NAME;
    GLOBAL_NAME
    prd.WORLD
    CREATE DATABASE LINK prd
    CONNECT TO system IDENTIFIED BY system_passwd
    USING 'prd';--- alias
    so the connection description will be ---select ename from [email protected]

  • How to pass fields in task description so that it will come in  sap inbox

    Hi all.
    (<b>very urgent)</b>
    I am doing one workflow on vendor payment workflow.
    I want to pass some fields in the task description so that that they  will come in the user decision description.
    Pls help me solving this.
    Please replyif more clarification is needed.
    Good points will be rewrded for solution.

    Hi Tapu,
    You did not find your BO means in the workflow container you has not mentioned ur BO. What is the Element name for your Object that will come here.
    In your workflow template container should have Expression of ur Object(BUS2081). So, Create the Element for Expression in Wf Container.
    Example in User Decision:
    Title:  Make Sure your Decision of Sales Order
    Agents:
    Expression: &SALESORDER& ( F4)
    Decision Option:
    Approved:: Send Notification                            Approved
    Rejected:: Send to Initiator with Reason           Rejected

  • How to round value of container element in task description

    I am trying to round the value of the container element from 3 decimals to 2 decimals for display purposes.
    The command symbol in the task description is &_WI_Object_Id.OverallTotalCost&. I have looked at SAP Help and I have tried the suggestion of &_WI_Object_Id.OverallTotalCost(.2)& and &_WI_Object_Id.OverallTotalCost(Z.2)& with no success.
    I have also searched the sap-wug mailing list and SAP ITToolBox and found no references rounding a container element in a task description. I have seen code assigning a value to a packed decimal variable to round. But I have not been able to get this to work as a command in a description for a task.

    I created a new element in the container as suggested by Glauco and added the element binding in the workflow / task binding. Biggest hassle was finding a business object that had a type of 2 decimal places to use for the new container element.
    The reason why the SAPScript symbol for reducing the number of decimals does not work in Task texts is because the container elment symbols are resolved first as text. Therefore only the SAPScript commands that apply to text will work like length.

  • Print out Standard text in Task description

    Hi All,
    is it possible print out the standard text in the workflow task description?
    I need to display some information in the business workplace, but i don't know how to print out the standard text in task description.
    Regards,
    Luke

    Hi Luke,
    Are you lloking to print Standard texts in Workitem...
    You can do that... you will have to first create a method to read SO standard text using READ_TEXT and pass it on to a multiline container which you will have to mention in the Task description.
    For syntax please search relevant threads...

  • Change Style in task description

    Hi All,
         I am using a decision step in my workflow.  I want to change the default font style associated with the task.  The default is Form: System and the default paragraph is '*'.
         I want to use custom style for formatting the task description.  The Menu option Change style in Change editor is not allowing me to select the zstyle i have created.
        I will appreciate if anyone can provide me a solution.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Manikandan Ramamoorthy.
    Note:  All supportive answers will be rewarded

    Hi Barry,
    I also checked, and we are not having any options to choose the particular style.
    Hope its a limitation we have in workflow.
    Because when i checked the same option SO10, we have an option choose.
    So workaround will be like this:
    Create your desired text in SO10 with your own style and include that standard text in your task description.
    Hope it solves your issue.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Regarding String truncation

    Hello all,
    I have got a small problem. Hope you will help me.
    I have got a text String which contains both single byte characters and multi-byte characters mixed up(English characters and non-english characters) which i need to insert into database table. Now the database column is set to store a text of maximum length of 100 bytes so it is required to truncate the string before insertion. Now the problem is when i extract the first 100 bytes from the string, the last character of the string sometimes gets changed( due to extracting only first byte of multi-byte character). The dumbest solution I thought to get around this is something like this:
                    //Here remarks contains the string value
         if (null!= remarks && remarks.getBytes().length > 100 ) {
                          while (remarks.getBytes().length > 100) {
                               remarks = remarks.substring(0, remarks.length()-1 );
                     }I am wondering is there any other elegant solution for this as the loop part is time-consuming and moreover, i am inserting the records in a count of thousands.

    Thanks for your reply
    Why do you have to do that on your own? It's the databases task to correctly truncate a String, if necessary (and inform you of the fact by issuing a Warning).
    But when i insert a string of size greater than 100 bytes i am getting an SQL Exception.
    Also, is the size of the text field really restricted by the number of bytes instead of the number of characters? I've seen that in some DBs (can't remember which ones), but it's a pretty bad idea and fortunately not all do it that way.
    I am using Oracle9i and the size of text field is restricted by the number of bytes.
    Also, your code assumes that the database uses the same encoding as the default locale of the machine running your code. Workaround: find out the encoding of the Database and use that when calling getBytes().Points taken. Thanks.

  • Dynamic task description in sap inbox displaying carriage returns as an * ?

    Hi All,
    I have a method in my business object whereby I dynamically create the description of the task for the sap inbox, ie. the description the user sees for the task in their sap inbox .
    At first I built this description into an internal table of type tline.   I would have thought that each row of the table would begin on a new line but this did not happen.  The rows ran into each other but were seperated by a semi colon.
    Then  I included a carriage return (cl_abap_char_utilities=>cr_lf) at the end of each row.  This had the same output but instead of the semi colon, it output an asteriks.
    Then I concatenated all the output into a string and passed this to a FM which splits the string at the carriage return and outputs the table.  While this behaved as I wanted in a test program (i.e. new line for each row) , once I put the code in the business object, all the rows ran into each other again..
    So is anyone aware of a way in which you can dynamcially build the task description and maintain the formatting you require?
    I'd be very grateful if anyone could shed any light as I've been trying to get this going for a day and a half now and I'm about ready to give up!!
    Many thanks,
    Liz.

    I had same requirement of displaying mutiple lines of workitem description. I used the following method for achieving my functionality.
    Suppose multilineline text to displayed in the workitem description is:-
    Line 1-> This is the the test text method to display description in the user defined format
    Line 2-> which i want to show on my workitem to person approving the workitem.
    Line 3-> Hello ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how are u .............................................test test hello test.
    1> I stored the data in an internal table which has one field of type c length 200.
    2> I appened the data line by line into the table so that data is not overlapped and my format is maintained.
    i.e  Data : t_text   type table of ty_text,
                   w_text  type ty_text.
    w_text-line = Line1.
    appen w_text to t_text.
    clear w_text.
    w_text-line = Line2.
    appen w_text to t_text.
    clear w_text.
    w_text-line = Line3.
    appen w_text to t_text.
    clear w_text.
    3>  The internal table T_TEXT will have three lines of data.
    4> Now pass this table as it is on the workitem Description.It will display text as per ur format on the workitem description dynamically
