  • Odd circumstances regarding an 'unexpected error' in Project Server 2010

    A couple of days ago, a client of mine started experiencing an odd error upon trying to save their project files in Project Professional 2010 while connected to Project Server 2010. They'd receive the following error:
    An unexpected error occurred during command execution.
    Try the following:
    Verify that all argument names and values are correct and are of the correct type.
    You may have run out of memory. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows that you are not using.
    I am familiar with troubleshooting both of the cases as listed above in this error message and quickly determined that the client was not experiencing memory issues. I also could not find any instances where there were incorrect values in any project schedule
    fields.
    We eventually were able to replicate the issue by following these steps:
    A user creates a new project via PWA using an Enterprise Project Type that has been pre-defined to have a specific project template applied to it. Please note that this Enterprise Project Type did not create a workflow... only created a Project Details
    page, Project Information page, and Project Schedule based upon this template.
    This new project is given some basic Project level custom field information and set to the PM owner and then saved and published without any issues.
    Now, when the project schedule is opened immediately afterwards in Project Professional 2010, changes cannot be saved or published. Even the most basic of change at this point such as a new task line or renaming a task name will result in the error message
    given at the top of this post. The user is then forced to close the project file and check it back in. Note this applies to anyone performing some or all of these steps.
    Note: If a project file was created from this same template through Project Professional instead of through PWA, it was fine and no errors would occur upon further editing.
    Because of the above, I decided to try and open the existing project templates used in the Enterprise Project Types that were being affected and simply re-save them with new names. I made no other changes to these templates than just giving them a new name.
    I then created new Enterprise Project Types that would then use these new templates. Other than this change, these Enterprise Project Types were exactly the same as the previous ones which caused errors.
    Upon trying the new Enterprise Project Types, the project schedules behaved normally and new projects created from them would not cause the error listed.
    This is extremely puzzling obviously and now my client is concerned that this is a symptom of a deeper problem in the database that we might not yet know about.
    Is this an issue that anyone here has experienced before, and if so, knows how to correct and prevent from occurring again in the future?
    Thank you.

    Daniel,
    Issue could be due to corruption ? Please provide us information about current server and client patch level for Project. Also ULS log information would be beneficial to investigate this issue

  • Saving Error in Project Server 2013, Need Help!

    Hey All,
    I am running into issues with a Projects saving from Project Pro 2013 to our Project Server 2013 Farm.
    It is strange, when someone tries to save a project out of Project Pro 2013 to Project Server, it will run through the "Synchronizing Data to the Server", and then bombs out with error
    Job Type: Save
    Error ID:9000(0x2328)
    The project could not be saved to the server, Etc..
    My understanding is that this is a generic save error that could mean many things.
    In the ULS logs under "Active Cache Save" , I am getting:
    "Cancelling correlation 1339927b-e9e5-e311-941d-00155d2bc10d as save is an overwrite or resubmit"
    What is strange at this point is if I check the project back in, and re-open/re-checkout the project, and try to save again, it is successful in saving.
    Just a few details about the environment:
    Project Server Version: 2013 RTM (In the process of upgrading)
    SharePoint Version: 2013 RTM (In the process of upgrading)
    Project Structure: One Master Project with all other projects being subprojects of the master
    Published Status: All Published
    SQL Version: SQL Server 2012 SP1
    User Count: About 5 currently
    Deployment: 1 WFE, 1 APP Server, 1 SQL Server
    It is just odd, as it seems to be completely random. We have tried clearing caches out to see if that resolves it but it did not. It is just odd that it takes two saves for it to actually work correctly, and is problematic as the many times they are saving
    from the master and it bombs out there.
    I am not sure how it could be an issue as it is usually just a single user working on the individual subprojects.
    Maybe it is an issue in the RTM? I couldn't find any info in any of the CU's or SP's that addresses this directly
    Has anyone seen this, or have any suggestions?
    MS Support has not been any help at all.
    Thanks all

    I have heard of issues with Master and Sub-Projects and both being published to Project Server, as a rule it is a feature I learnt to avoid as a result of bad experiences with earlier versions of Project Server.
    Whilst this will not resolve the issue you have encountered the following suggestion may help you avoid pain in the future and leverages the potential of Project Server to represent common attributes for projects.
    Typically a Master/Sub Project environment is intended to reflect projects that are commonly aligned - it is not unusual for a Master Project to represent a programme and for there to be multiple sub-projects forming the programme - there can be programme
    level events that have multiple predecessors from multiple sub-projects.
    Rather than create a master and sub-project situation I would suggest looking to define two Enterprise Custom Project fields to assist with such situations. The first being a Project Field called Programme that has a look up table with a list of current
    programmes you can select from. The second Project Field would be a Programme Status Field  with an associated lookup table with 3 values, Master, Sub-Project, Standalone.
    You can have a project represent the Master (Programme) project and open it and all sub-projects in the programme (albeit this would have to be a one by one action to begin with). With all the projects open go and open a New Window in Project Professional
    and elect to include all the open projects in the new window - this will create a new project with all the selected projects showing as
    "embedded objects" and then create dependencies from sub-projects to programme level events in the Master Project (I would suggest what I call
    "one way traffic" when creating "cross project dependencies" to avoid further headaches). Close the project, you will be prompted to save changes which you should do but do not save the new window
    "container" project. The dependencies across the projects will persist - in each project you will be able to see external successors - tasks in the master project. In the master project you will be able to see external predecessors.
    In PWA you can create Project Centre Programme views that filter to exclude projects that ARE Standalone and group them by Programme and sort by Programme Status Field - this will ensure that the "Master" sits at the top of the pile for each programme grouping.
    Just a suggestion - I hope the issue you have encountered is resolved soon.

  • Access permission to the Project server workflow tasks in project server 2013.

    Hi All,
    I am creating an OOB Project server workflow, where it contains few phases and each phases have some stages, there are few approval levels of the workflow.
    Scenario - 1st stage - when project is submitted, a task is assigned to resource, when the resource click on the task link provided in mail, it redirects to the project server workflow task list.
    1) When users view the task list, for all user the delete Item and approve button is enabled even we have given permission as edit,view permission in sharepoint group for that user.
    2) Task list should be viewable by specific user but in my case even after giving the permission it can be apporved by any one who is not authorised also.
    3)  then i tried below things
    1. deleted the user in pwa
    2. deleted the user in sharepoint site.
    even after doing the above, the user able to do all activity in the stie content page, have access to the sharepoint portal. how this is possible?
    When checked with not existing user permission there are few defalut permission set for that user after AD sync. because of this he as access, even if he is not in pwa or in sharepoint site. how to retrict this?
    Can anyone faced the same issue?
    How to fix this permission issue?
    Thanks in advance.

    And then when I pull data from the database, it is returning empty. For any other sharepoint list this
    is working absolutely fine. I am facing issue only wrt "Project Server Workflow Tasks" list.

  • Error in project server weekly Alerts configuration

    please help
    Thanks
    Paru

    You are setting an alert for changes to the "page," not the project. So, if someone edits the Schedule PDP, then you should get an alert. In other words, you're telling SharePoint to send an alert when someone edits the PDP, not when someone edits the project.
    The correct way to do this would be to use an event handler and custom code, but you will most certainly create a spam machine given the rate of change of most projects.
    Sending an email every time a project is modified is a silly requirement. No doubt you need to refine this requirement. Stakeholders usually do not want to know about *every* change, they want to know about significant changes such as the finish date changed
    by more than X-days, or by percent, or something like that.
    With that said, the best way to meet this type of requirement is to use SSRS to create a report and then push it via email to the users.

  • Error in Project Server 2013

    Hi,
    I set myself as team member in Project Server 2013, when i click on Project,Approvals and Timesheet i receive the below error:
    "Cannot communicate with the server. Verify your connection and try again"
    I have other account with Project Manager rights, with that account i can open these pages.
    Please help.
    K.Gokulraj

    Hi Gokulraj,
    What permission mode are you using in project server 2013? Is it "project permissions mode" or "SharePoint permissions mode"?
    If you are using "project permissions mode", then go to Server Settings -> Manage users and click on the user with "team member" permissions to edit.
    In the next page, expand "Global Permissions" and "View Approval" permission.
    It could be the issue with the categories and category level permissions.

    Hi sir,

    Hi,
    If you use the Include<TSource> Method in the Load method, we will retrieve only the ids of items in this query, so
    the listItems.ListItemCollectionPosition will not be initialized.
    You can use the <ViewFields> tag in CAML Query to specify the field values to return with each item instead.

  • 8315 Error in Project Server 2013

    Hey all,
    My Project 2013 server just recently started throwing an 8315 error. Its details are:
    Machine 'NTPRJWEB2 (SharePoint - 80(_LM_W3SVC_1989583194_ROOT))' failed ping validation and has been unavailable since '6/18/2014 2:27:52 PM'.

    I have never had to deal with this error before. Can some one advise me what I need to do to resolve this?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,
    Are you having RTM version of SharePoint 2013? 8315, 8316, 8317, 8318 are known issues related to Request
    management service in RTM build of SharePoint 2013. These issues should go off once you upgrade to the latest SP/CU.

    Divyang,
    I am not a programmer, but I think the obvious check is to make sure that the resource you are trying to remove is actually in the project scheudle.
    Another item to check is whether the resource is a LOCAL resource instead of an ENTERPRISE resource.

  • Queue Error in Project Server 2007

    Hi,
    When i submit the timesheet I see the status " Waiting to be processed(sleeping)" in the queue for long time and it gets failed.
    What does it mean? i have restarted the queue service but still it doesn't work.
    How to overcome this issue?
    K.Gokulraj

    One of the tasks is causing the issue.   I usually see this when user submits more time than remaining work.  To find the task, I would recall the timesheet and clear out half the times with zero and resubmit.   Continuing doing
    until you find the one task causing issue.

     Please have a look at code implementation for hooking save button;-
    OnPreRender implemented java script code to hook the ribbon “Save” button. Attached code for your reference.
    Code:-
    protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e)
                    base.OnPreRender(e);
                    var saveFunc = Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackClientHyperlink(_lnbSaveProject, "");

    function pfp_Save(ctx)
    if({1})
    var arg = '';
    {2}
    ctx.Completed();
                                            WPDP_{0}.Validate =
    function pfp_Validate()
    return true;
                                            function SaveCallback_{0}(result,

    if (result != '') {{
    SaveErrorCallback_{0}(result, ctx);

    ctx.Completed();
                                            function SaveErrorCallback_{0}(result,
    ctx) {{
    ctx.FailedShowInlineErrors(result);
                                            WPDP_{0}.IsDirty =
