Workflow for moving between PPro and AE

I've spent hours trying to get this to work, with no luck and would appreciate help.
I have some HDV footage that's been captured using PPro (mpeg). This footage contains a number of scenes and each scene has a number of takes with only one good take from each scene.
In PPro I know how to extract the best takes of each scene and drop them on a timeline. So far so good. These scenes are shoot with a green screen so what I really want to do is take them over to AE and use the Keylight plug-in.
After having tried various things I eventually too the captured footage into AE to process thinking I'll render it and then use that in PPro. But AE simply fails after about 30 minutes. The whole rendering process (it says) will take about 4 hours (for 15 minutes of footage).
Thanks for any help.
Shiv.

I think AE gets confused with paths if you've not saved the project before you import files (or something). I went back in the AE project and told it where to find each of the "missing" files.
When I'm in AE, everything looks just fine. But back in PPro it looks like that. Yes, a color chart that's kind of masked in the shape of the parts I want to retain.
I think I've got things to work (after fixing the missing files issue).
So let me ask you this...
If I render the AE comp into a lossless (avi) media type and then this use the rendered video in PPro, am I lossing out on quality? I ask because when I do that things are move in realtime in PPro and I'm able to synch sound and other things much better.
So the way I see it (if there is no loss) I get the advantage of the following with the what you've shown me and what I've come up with due to performance issues.
In PPro, from a capture extract out the parts required into a sequence (all by itself). Save the project.
Then in AE createa an new project and save the project. Then import the PPro project and that one sequence. Do what you need in AE and render the comp into a lossless codec.
Then in the PPro project import the rendered video and use it to do what you need to.

Is there an existing shortcut for moving between the tabs of modal dialog boxes. For example Cmd+Opt+'B' brings up Cell Options dialog but that is actually the shortcut for the "Text" Panel how can I navigate (using keyboard keys) to the other Panels {"Strokes and Fills", "Rows and Columns", "Diagonal Lines"}.
    Note:
I realise I can create shortcuts for the Table…> Cell Options…> Diagonal Lines items but these shortcuts will not work in the context of the Cell Options Modal Dialogue box.

    Hey Thanks.
For those who come looking b/s they had the same question:
As a bonus once one of these key sequences is pressed the tab heading area comes into focus so the arrow keys work for navigating tabs. So even for long list of Paragraph Style tabs which number greater than 10 still easy to navigate to them eleventh to someteenth ones.

  • Reference Library for Converting Between LabVIEW and XML Data (GXML)

Please provide feedback, comments and questions on the Reference Library for Converting Between LabVIEW and XML Data (GXML) in this thread.
The latest version of the NI GXML Library is availble in VIPM on the NI LabVIEW  Tools Network repository.

Francesco, Thank you for the feedback.  With this component it was my intention to make a more "terse" version of the LabVIEW Flatten to XML VI that was also supported on RT and that gave the user more flexbility regarding the structure of the parsing type definition. I think you are right that the XML parser is not compliant to section 2.11 of the XML spec.  The parser does specifically looking for a #D#A and this appears to be an oversight on my part.  Please confirm for me, the specifcation is saying that the XML parser should be able to recognize three possibilities as an "end of line" character: #D#A, #D, or #A.  Am I reading this right? There are more efficient (and in some cases much more efficient) ways of sharing data between LabVIEW and LabVIEW: some examples are flattened binary strings and the datalog binary format.  XML is slower than these optons but the upside is that it is human readable.  Furthermore XML is inherently hierarchical which is convenient for complex data structures like clusters of arrays of clusters, etc.  If you don't care about human readability then you are correct XML doesn't make as much sense.I will return to the GXML source code and try to fix this in the near future but I would hope that instead of creating yet another custom VI from scratch that you could reuse what I have provided for you.  I included enough documentation in the source code so that users could make some modificiations themselves. The target application for this reference library was LabVIEW to LabVIEW communication.  As such I documented the schema on the dev zone document from a LabVIEW perspective.  It includes all the supported datatypes and all the supported data structures (cluters, arrays, multidimensional arrays, clusters of multidimensional arrays, etc.)  I do see some value in making a more conventional XML spec but the time investment required didn't really line up with my intended use case. Were there any other downsides to GXML that I have missed?  Best Regards, Jeff TippsSystems Engineer - Sound and VibrationMessage Edited by Jeff T. on 04-21-2010 10:09 AM

  • Workflow for moving stereo tracks to mono?

    Hi everyone,
I'm a relatively new Audition user (using the latest version of CC); I've been using it to create podcasts using the multitrack editor and flagging out footage with markers in the waveform editor. I recorded a skype conversation and I wanted to mix the audio for a new episode, and I'm hoping that someone can help me with a suggested workflow. In the screencap below, the audio got recorded with stereo channels, and what I am attempting to do find the quickest way to create a two mono channels from what is two stereo channels (although the right channel of one didn't include any audio) – and balance the audio levels between the two mono channels. Screencap enclosed of what i'm beginning with.
I know the multi-track editor can accomplish some of this using the bus feature, but I want to first get this audio right because i want to make markers in the wave form to flag out footage, so i figured that destructive changes to the audio are best. I'm aware that i can extract audio channels to mono and use the match volume feature for clips, but i'm wondering if someone might be able to point me to a quicker/better way.
    Thanks a lot,
    Quin

In Waveform view, use Edit/Convert Sample Type and just select mono in that section of the conversion options.
The balancing of levels between the two is best done in Multitrack where you can listen--though, looking at your waveforms, you might find it gets easier if you normalise (Effects/Amplitude and Compression/Normalise) to reduce that loud track down to levels closer to the quiet one before you start.
It's worth saying that, if your session is set up to end up in mono, you may well not need to convert your files anyway but this depends on your workflow.  If it was me, I think I might convert to mono (even if not strictly necessary) just for tidiness.

  • Data conversion for communication between Java and C/C++ program

The real problem, i guess, is about data type conversion between Java and C programs. For instance, and int is supposed to be 4 bytes in Java, and also in C/C++. But, as far as I know, the size of and int in C depends on the processors architecture, so if it were a 64 bit arch., size of and int, double, etc. in C, would change. The real scenario would be a communication between a 32 bit machine (Java) and a 64 bit machine (C/C++).
First of all, is this assumption correct?
    If so,
how is it possible to deal with this problem in Java?
Is there any way to know 'type length' automatically? or
would it be necessary to modify the Java program to work with a C program in 32-bit or 64-bit arch?
    thx in advance

    cotton.m wrote:
Yes you should develop the C part of the protocol first and then build from there.
See http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5243547 for a previous discussion of this topic.
I understand what you mean, also the topic you referenced. I will explain the situation a bit more. The protocol is already defined: (16 bits message size, 16 message id, 32 bit time, etc.); it is also defined in C (structures and so on). So it would be easy to write my Java code using the specified protocol in bytes, and C types wouldn't be necessary to be considered. But, let's say that the C code can't be modified, and I thought (and don't know yet if its correct), that size of C types CAN changed depending on architecture. So if size changes for C types (code is specified in short, int, etc, and not in bit format), it all would be a mess, if I don't implement something in my Java code.
    cotton.m wrote:
I don't believe that 32 or 64 bit enters the equation here at all.Maybe 32 o 64 doesn't mind, but sparc or PC could take a point here. Communication would be between a sun solaris sparc and windows x86 PC. But if type size in C/C++ does not change, I wouldn't really have any problem then...
The situation is not ideal, I know, but is what I have; and I think I could have problems if I run the C program in other machines; so I would have to try to solve it whithin my Java Program.
I hope it is clear now what I need.

  • Workflow for moving photos/videos from iPhoto to LR

I used to use iPhoto, but have switched to LR. I'd like to move all the images/videos I have in iPhoto to LightRoom.
What is the workflow for making this move?
    thanks
    Greg

You can't run an iPhoto Library from a NAS. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
You can't convert a Managed Library to a Referenced Library (see below for definitions of managed and referenced) with iPhoto - and you probably shouldn't anyway, especially when the masters are on one volume and the library on another. See
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3062728?tstart=0
    for more on why.
With Aperture, you can easily have the Masters on one volume and the Library on another, and you can convert the Library from Managed to Referenced easily.
However, if you di any editing your planned set up will not work. Both iPhoto and Aperture will never edit your original file. All processing in these apps is virtual. So, if you fix red-eye for instance, the image in iPhoto/Aperture will have the red-eye fixed. But the image on the NAS will be your original file, with the red-eye. So any device that accesses the images directly from the NAS will have he original image, not the processed one.
    Is that what you want?
    Regards
    TD
    Definitions:
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Solution for connection between BODS and WCF web service ?

    Hi,
we have a unique requirement of connecting BODS to WCF webservice. This web service acts as a layer for connection between proprietary databases (secured) and other external systems. Queries are to be sent to this web service in order to fetch data from proprietary databases.
In order to connect to these web services, we should also provide Address, Binding and contract whose details are already present with us.
Example of web service address:     net.tcp://op12345:10101/sd
I heard Adapters are the best way of connecting to the above web service, could you please provide some guidance on connecting through adapters if it is the best solution.
Could someone suggest the best possible approach(ASAP) to bring connection between BODS and web services and to execute the above requirement.
Please let me know in case of any more information.

  • Best workflow for burning Blu-ray and DVD

    Hi,
What's the best workflow for effciency sake for burning both a Blu-ray and a DVD of the same project?
Essientially I'd like to export and create a menu once, then be able to downrez to DVD. However, I'm not sure that is possible since blu-ray and DVD are differnt codecs.
    Thank you

The only way that you can get acceptable re-scaling of menus is to go from BR to DVD, and do the editing in Photoshop.  Simply re-scaling the menu here will not give acceptable results.
I usually copy the various button layers from the BR menu to a new DVD menu file created using the provided Photoshop preset.  You will still have to do  some manual re-scaling and alignment.  The thing that has given me the most trouble over the years is round button highlights - a segment is often chopped off.  Font sizes will probably need adjusting too.
Unless you are adept with handling layers and groups within Photoshop, it may be easier to start again.
Any attempt to convert within Encore is unlikely to produce acceptable menus in my experience.

  • Data Inconsistency for 0EMPLOYEE between ECC and BI

    Hi,
We do a full load to 0EMPLOYEE using 0EMPLOYEE_ATTR from ECC. There were records deleted for lot of employees (some action types) in ECC. This has caused data inconsistency for 0EMPLOYEE master data (time-dependent) between ECC and BI. In BI we have more records for these employees (Additional records have time-dependent range that were deleted from ECC but still exist in BI). These employee records are already being used in lot of InfoProviders. Is there an efficient way to fix this issue? One of the solution is to delete data from all InfoProviders and then delete from Master data for 0EMPLOYEE, but the deletion of employee records can happen quite often, so we don't want to take this route. Also, I tried to re-organize master data attributes for 0EMPLOYEE through process chain, but that didn't work either.

    Hi Ripel,
I share your pain. This is one of the real pains of Time-Dependant master data in BW. I have been in your exact position and the only way round the issue for me was to clear out all the cubes that used 0EMPLOYEE and then delete and re-load 0EMPLOYEE data.
I know this responce doesn't help you but at least you are not alone.

  • GUID for relation between BP and Sales Org?

    Hi,
I need a GUID for the relation between a business partner and the sales org. I already have a GUID for the sales org, and one for the BP, but I also need one for the relation itself in addition to the field RelNr in BUT050.
What table are these stored in?
    Regards
    Thomas

    Hello Manuel,
in neither of these tables is a field for a GUID for the relation, there is only one GUID for the business partner set.
Since my GUID does not really need to be globally unique, but rather locally, I will now use the FM BUPA_MWXT_RELKEY_TO_RELGUID (which basically concats both partner numbers and the partner relationship number).
    Thanks for your help, though.

  • Round trip workflow with proxies between Premiere and AE / a more general question about how these programs work?

    Hi all,
I'm new to editing with proxies in Premiere and have some questions about how to handle the relationship with After Effects. Say I have a rough cut (with proxies) and I want to send it to AE to do some effects. The simplest thing to do seems to be to replace the proxies with the originals in Premiere, send the project to AE and do my thing. But if I then want to send the project back to Premiere, it will involve the original files, which are too machine-intensive for me to edit. In theory, it seems like there should be a way to send the project with original footage to AE, do effects, send it back to Premiere, and then replace it with proxies to do further editing while retaining the effects.
This leads to a confusion about how AE works. When I do an effect, am I correct in assuming that it does nothing to the original file? If that's the case, it seems like it shouldn't matter (in the editing stage) what file AE "applies" an effect to (proxy or original). But I feel like there's a hitch in this workflow. The same question could also be asked about going back and forth in Speed Grade.
Perhaps there is no real answer to this and the best option is to save effects and grading for after I have picture lock, but sometimes that's not entirely possible or convenient, etc.
Hopefully this makes some sense—It's a little hard to explain.
    Thanks.
