Workflow - is there a logical way to export a bunch of regions with names?

Hi all.
Situation:
I have a bunch of audio regions from a film shoot, and have edited their start and end points in Logic. I would now like to export all of these regions as separate audio files (with sample rate conversion) and (here is the important thing) *keep the names of the regions intact*.
I know there are ways to export regions, but I have many, many of them and they are separated, track-by-track into the different scenes and ambiences. If I select all of them and export, I get many, many regions with non-descript names in one place which I then have to go through and rename.
There's gotta be a way to do this, right? I mean, it's a common problem, right?
-J

You might consider another program to edit start and end points.. Many years ago I used Peak to do something similiar (I had several hundred files small audio files to edit) this. It had a batch function, it would actually do as many functions as you specified. You then selected a input folder and on outoput folder, and hit batch process. .. another program was barbrabatch (don't know if it's still around)..
another idea to try is go right into the sample edit section of Logic, edit the sample, and use 'save as' the default name there.. I'm not sure if it will let you overwrite the original, perhaps you can point it to another folder, but if the default name comes up, it saves you the trouble of retyping the name each time.

  • Is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro?

    OK...so here's what I'm trying to find out: is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro? Or can I build the project in DVDSTPRO and import it to iDVD to build and burn?
    I've read several threads here and haven't come across my specific question. If I missed it, please copy me a link. Otherwise, I'd like to use the templates/themes in iDVD with my FCP project.
    I was thinking about importing the project from FCP to iDVD. Then, I thought about the markers etc....
    So, if anyone had an idea, tip or link, I'm all for it!
    Thanks!
    ron

    Importing iDVD Projects and Themes
    DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
    Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5. In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
    To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
    1 Do one of the following:
    • Choose File > Open.
    • Press Command-O.
    2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
    DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
    About the iDVD Project Import
    When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
    The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
    • iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
    configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
    • iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
    Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations.
    If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
    Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
    Issues With Importing iDVD Projects
    There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
    • If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
    • When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
    • The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
    • When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
    • If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

  • Is there a way to export a contact photo taken with my iPhone.

    Right after I gave my wife her iPhone I snapped a picture of her directly into her contact listing in my iPhone. I assumed that it would show up in the photo program, but it doesn't. I cannot find any way to export or import the photo.
    I can see the photo in Contacts on my iPhone and Address Book on my Mac, but don't see a way to export it there either.
    Any ideas?

    It worked for me to just drag it from my contacts list to iPhoto. Then you can export it from iPhoto.

  • Any way to export table to excel file with leading 0s?

    I have to export about 50 excel files from different tables.  Some tables contain leading 0s in the columns.  If I use bcp to export to xls file, the leading 0s will be missing.  If bcp to csv or txt file, there will be no issue at all.  But I have to export to xls file in order to let client update that xls file and reload to tables again.
    Is there any other ways to do this task?
    Thanks in advance.

    Ok,  I played with it and fixed it on mine to work.
    Here is what you do.  Create a blank Excel file in Excel with a single header row with your column names in it, and then set the datatypes for each column in Excel to match your export type.  For the below, create an Excel file and in column A1, put "Name" and change the column to Type Text.  Then in B1 type Date and set it to type Date, then save the file as c:\Test.xls.  Then close the file in Excel.
    In SSMS execute the following:
    Code Snippet
    INSERT INTO OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
    'Excel 8.0;Database=C:\test.xls;HDR=YES',
    'SELECT Name, Date FROM [Sheet1$]')
    SELECT [Name], GETDATE() FROM msdb.dbo.sysjobs
    GO
     It worked perfectly in my environment.  Don't bother with BCP, just create a formated Excel File with a header row with your output column names and then save it.

  • Is there an easy way to create 2 page imposed PDFs with a background?

    I have figured out a way to create a suitable imposed single page PDF using the 'import as layer' action, the action only understands a single paged background PDF.
    In other words, I have a PDF that has the suitable marks on it with the pages marked 'Page 1' & 'Page 2'. This is the background PDF.
    I open this PDF in Acrobat and run the action that places another PDF (the 'Source' PDF) on multiple layers with different offsets.
    The original (template) PDF is 2 pages & the Source PDF for imposition is 2 pages, and even though the 'import as layer' understands that the source PDF being imposed is 2 pages, it does not seem to allow the original (template) PDF to be seen as 2 pages.
    There is a 'Target page number' option in the Preview area, but that is grayed out at 1.
    So...other than commercial applications, is there an easy way to build a 2 page PDF imposition file??
    Maybe a script?

    Sabian,
    Yes, the Quite software would be perfect, especially the 'Hot'. Tested & works great for us, but the price tag for the 'Hot' is rather steep for our relatively simple process......background template with a 'step & repeat' of the 'live' document.
    As I mentioned in the original post, to do this with a single page PDF is simple enough using an action that places the 'live' doc multiple times, but the vast majority of our publications are 2 pages.
    Currently runing the action twice for each job. I would save a bit of time if this could be automated to do both sides with one action, or one script.

  • Browsing the library in Finder. Is there a logical way to do it?

    Hi All,
    I am an iPhoto 7 user who has just upgraded to Aperture. A friend of mine has just brought my attention to the fact that the database format used by Aperture (and newer versions of iPhoto) is not easily browsable via Finder.
    What I mean by this is that in iPhoto 7, the photo library was a series of directories. Within the 'Originals' folder were folders for each year. Within each year were folder for each iPhoto event. The great thing about this is that you could browse through your photos using Finder or any other appropriate software with ease. I believe that iTunes still uses a similar hierarchy for storing music. It seemed to be a good balance between automated database management and human readable data. Now, Aperture does things differently. It seems to use a system of nested directories using numerical identifiers that bare some relation to the date the files were added. But, overall, it's a bit of a black box.
    So, is there a way I can recover the 'browsability' I had with iPhoto?
    I don't want to have to re-import everything into Aperture. I suspect that having the app leave the photos in their original location would help but I've had fatal problems with referenced libraries in iPhoto and so don't want to repeat this. I have also invested many many hours training the facial recognition and tagging my photos (I have about 27,000) so you can imagine I don't want to do this again! =)
    I do have my original iPhoto library (taking up 75GB of my disk). I plan to delete this but is there some way to use this to create a folder structure of links to the Aperture photos? Come to think of it, I could import my Aperture library into a fresh referenced iPhoto library. That way I have the reliability of a managed library in Aperture and the sensible referenced storage format in iPhoto. Would this be sensible? I would lose my iPhoto events and albums though.
    Hopefully you see what I'm wanting to achieve. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Dave

    TD,
    Many thanks for your reply. I've followed your posts on many an occasion so it's good to get your insight.
    Although it was possible to surf the iPhoto Library Folder in versions of iPhoto up to v6 it was never supported. Simply, there are no user-serviceable parts within the Library and you shold never try to access them.
    'User-serviceable' is, of course, dependant on the user =)  I agree that the vast majority of users would be well advised to leave the library alone. I see a great many posts to the iPhoto forum from users who have corrupted their library through fiddling. I've also seen you attempt to help them. It must get frustrating for you. However, I was able to recover a corrupt referenced library by replacing the aliases in the library with original photos. But perhaps this is the exception rather than the rule.
    Using Alias folders etc is pointless and unnecessary. Images accessed and processed this way are not reflected in the Photo Manager, and what's the point of a photo manager if you're not using it?
    I respect your opinion but I disagree. Not least because, as a Tiger user, Finder is generally faster for navigating and accessing photos by quite a considerable margin. Moreso when you factor in the Aperture/iPhoto start-up time. Now, having the media browser brought to my attention under Leopard and above, this particular advantage should now be reassessed. I agree with your point about processed images not being reflected in the Photo Manager. Anyone doing this is demonstrating a lack of understanding of how the Manager works.
    The point of Applications like iPhoto and Aperture is that they replace the Finder when it comes to managing your Photos. It makes no sense to cruise the Libraries via the Finder
    I think you mean that it makes no sense to you. In a similar way thay a GUI user may say it makes no sense to them to use command line tools. The fact that many of us still use the 'ls' command reveals that it has some benefits over Finder. Likewise, Finder has some benefits of Aperture. But that is almost a philosophical debate and this is an Aperture forum =)
    Accessing via the Finder you miss lots of edits, processing and metadata, and anything you think that you can achieve by doing this can also be done via the application interface - and more effectively and safely. It's always faster to use the app as designed.
    Accessing via Finder I know you only get the original image. Exactly what I wanted. I know you can also get this from the application interface. Copying a file using the Finder is just as safe as exporting using the application. You have hit the nail on the head when you say 'effectively' and 'faster'. The core of my original post is that, due to the Library format, I didn't see a way to access the photos via the Finder as effectively or as fast as I could with iPhoto 7.
    The Media Browser is available in just about every app on your mac
    Thank you! That's something that I had somehow missed when upgrading from Tiger. It took 15 seconds to load the first time around but it's been quicker since. I hope that initial wait was for cache building and it won't occur again. This looks like it can be more effective and faster than the Finder.
    Using both iPhoto and Aperture makes no sense at all. Double the work, double the effort and lot of wasted disk space.
    Seriously, rethink what you're doing. You're making things more complicated for yourself.
    Thanks for that.
    As an end note, I should say that I found the tone of your email overly patronizing and too often presented your opinions as facts. I trust that neither was your intention. You have built up an impressive record for helping and assisting others. I feel that it would be a shame if you were to inadvertently put off newcomers by coming across negatively. I hope you will accept my constructive criticism in the positive spirit it is intended.
    Kind regards,

  • Is there any easy way of exporting a high-res still from FC Studio into Photoshop?, is there any easy way of exporting a high-res still from FC Studio into Photoshop?

    Is there any way to do this other than using Grab, which is too low-res? Thanks!

    Any still you export from FCP will never be better quality than a video frame itself, which in the case of HD would be an image 1920 px X 1080 px @ 72 dpi.
    To export a frame from FCP, park the playhead on the frame you want to export.
    Go to the menu File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion . . . and when the pane opens, at the bottom set the format to Still Image and the press the Options button to set the format you want the still image to be.
    Once you have done that, navigate to where you want to store the image and press Save.

  • Apart from using RSTXSCRP is there any other way of exporting a Sapscript?.

    We've been using RSTXSCRP to export Sapscripts in Russian from a noon-unicode SAP system. However, the text file seems to have hashes (#) where the Russian text should be. I've tried this program when logged in both English and Russian, but the result is the same, and hence the question.
    Regards
    Gary

    This a Sapscript that I'm talking about, not a Smartform. Smartforms allow me to output/input in XML format, but I don't think such an option exists for Sapascripts. Or have I misunderstood what you were saying?.
    Also, while I'm on the subject, the RSTXSCRP program allows the user to EXPORT Sapscripts in both text and Binary mode, having just read the documentation it might be that the binary mode is probably what we should have used for the Russian text export.
    I believe that my colleague used the text mode previously, so I shall try the binary mode a little later and will update with the results.

  • Wish wish wish there was a way to export book pages as unflattened psds

    Wouldn't it be nice to be able to design a book in Aperture and then export the pages as unflattened PSD spreads that could then be fine tuned and further enhanced in Photoshop???
    That sure would make designing Wedding Albums in Aperture great.

    design a book in Aperture and then export the pages as unflattened PSD spreads that could then be fine tuned and further enhanced in Photoshop
    Editing embedded image objects in the Portable Document Format is possible. For instance, in higher priced versions of the Adobe viewer for PDF one can click an object edit tool, click an object to edit, and edit the object in one's preferred editing application whether Photoshop or Illustrator.
    'Spreads' in imposition means facing pages. Saving facing pages to Photoshop's PSD format in order to edit the images would probably make for problems in the following prepress phases. Better keep the PDF 1.3+ pagination and edit in place, if desired.

  • Is there a good way to replace the "view cart" text with another text?

    I have this big issue i'm still stuck with, i hope someone can help me.
    I need to change the text "view cart" in the cart-summary module. I have learned that i can do this with javascript: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4409239#4409239
    But there are problems:
    When i use this javascript:
    <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script>
    $(function () {
      $(".cartSummaryLink").text("Afrekenen");
    $(function () {
      $(".cartLink").text("Winkelwagen is geleegd");
    </script>
    The "view cart" is replaced with "afrekenen".
    BUT:
    When i add another product in the large product layout the text "view cart" is back...
    When i delete a product in the cart  the "view cart" text is also back
    When i refres the page the "view cart" text is replaced again with "afrekenen"
    So i thought, to use some javascript to refresh the page when a product is added:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function AddProductExtras(){
    document.location.reload(true);
    </script>
    This works but you can see that the text changes from "afrekenen" to "view cart" and back to "afrekenen" Also the page is rebuild again which is not a very good solution.  So here are my questions:
    Is there a better work around?
    If not, is there a way that when a product is deleted in the cart the page can also be refreshed?
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Hello Mario,
    Here's my site where i'm working on:
    http://grootaartseuronics.businesscatalyst.com/index.html
    The cartsummary module is located at the right sitebar.
    The code is:
    <div id="plh_winkelwagen">
    <div class="cart-summary">{module_shoppingcartsummary,vertical,}</div>
    </div>
    The CSS is:
    #plh_winkelwagen {
    float: right;
    width: 160px;
    height: 100px;
    margin: 20px;
    background-color: #FFC;
    background-image:url(../Images/Winkelmandje_nieuw_25.png);
    -webkit-border-radius: 15px; /* Safari */
    -webkit-border-radius: 15px; /* Safari */
    -moz-border-radius: 15px; /* Firefox */
    -moz-border-radius: 15px; /* Firefox */
    border-radius: 15px; /* CSS */
    border-radius: 15px; /* CSS3 */
    .shop-main .cart-summary {
    float: right;
    width: 40%;
    So with your solution I should remove the background plh_winkelwagen en create or put it in the a.cartsummarylink? Or should i keep the plh-winkelwagen and just add your solution. I can create a png the same size as the: winkelmandje_nieuw_25.png with the "afrekenen" text in it?
    Thanks,
    Frank

  • Is there a universal way to configure time capsule for use with magic jack plus?

    I've got the magic jack plus connected to my time capsule.  Works most of the time, but lately it's been dropping calls or I'll get error messages stating to check the internet connection.  Most say its related to the router settings.

    Note I do not own magic jack but it looks like a standard ATA voip adapter.
    How is the TC setup in the network? ie is it bridged or main router.. Is there another router?
    Being a non-apple product you will do better sticking with SMB compliant network names.. ie short no special characters no spaces.. Apple by default break these rules.
    Also you may have port forwarding issues.. apple do not use upnp most windows and non-apple products will expect and so you might have to open the required ports not just for sip but the actual call RDP packets.
    Even if you do open ports apple routers often break port forwarding. You might find it is easier to use a modem router or alternative standard router and bridge the TC.
    Look at posts that deal with issues which will be common with airport extreme.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3662236?start=0&tstart=0
    I would say it is not working because you have not forwarded the required ports.. or it just doesn't like Apple routers.. plugged into the Mac, the networking is handled by the Mac.. and is able to auto open ports.. non-apple products cannot generally do that.

  • Is there an easy way to get a "recent files" menu with a path control?

    If not, does anybody have any modular code that would do the trick? I could build this from scratch, but I'm sure it's been done many times already.

    Are you refering to password locking the subvis?  Or do you mean you want me to make sure it can work with any top level VI?  If the latter is true, then the answer is YES.  It will work with any menu.  It will place a list of recent files (it will limit them to a specified number, which is configurable) just above the last option under your first menu group.  So say you have the "File" menu first, and your last option is "Exit," then the File menu would look like:
    Before:
    New...
    Open...
    Close...
    Exit
    After:
    New...
    Open...
    Close...
    "Name of recent file 1"
    "Name of recent file 2"
    Exit
    Now of course your menu probably won't look just like that, but as long as the recent files list can put itself beside the last option (with a seperator), it will work fine.  Let me know if you have any more questions before I post the subs.
