Workflow on white blance. Aperture vs Photo Shop.

What is a better white blance, Aperture or PS.
I have used both and have better luck with PS. Dose anyone
have a workflow in Aperture that is just as good as PS?
I would love to do my white blance in Aperture, but not sure
if I would get the same results as PS.

Lots of questions come to mind with your post.
#1 - Are you talking about applying a auto white-balance [WB for short] to all your Masters?
#2 - Are you strictly talking about Apertures ability to set a nice white point?
Both applications have the ability to set the white point of a photograph and I don't find one better then the other as both I have to tune. Thats why I use RAW so that I can tune that WB among other reasons. Both have a white point slider and a tint slider. Both have color correction options and both are great tools. I hope that answers your question.

  • Aperture vs photo shop vs paint shop pro(

I'm a new Mac user..... on my PC I've used both Photoshop (harder to use) and Paint Shop Pro easier but still a lot of options). I'm not a professional photographer but I take a lot of pictures and enjoy enhancing them.... more then just taking the red eye out or slightly adjusting the colors. So I'm looking for some photo manipulation software that is deeper then just fixing your photos but not quite as complicated as Photo Shop is. Is Aperture the way I want to go?
Does anyone have any suggestions for me or reviews I can read?
    Thanks, Susan

Hi Susan. I'm an experienced Photoshop user, but I'm using Aperture 2.0 for more and more of my post-processing of images that do not require masking. My workflow using Aperture for whole-image adjustments is faster and, with 65,000+ photos, the savings in hard drive space vs Photoshop will be huge.
I'm learning Aperture bass ackwards, in the sense that I've been drawn into its image processing abilities before learning how to use it for managing my collection.
Be aware that Aperture really hammers your hardware, especially the video card. Download the trial version to see if it will work well with your computer system.

  • Aperture vs Adobe Photo Shop

How does Aperture compare to Adobe Photo shop? My usage is light mostly organizing and fixing personal photos with some usage for work in the engineering field.
    Thanks

Aperture and Photoshop are two different animals. Photoshop is a pixel editor while Aperture does global processing and provides DAM support (digital asset management). The following are some lines I picked up (and edited) for other threads in this forum - hope they help:
Aperture is aimed at being a workflow for handling raw camera images doing mostly global corrections. Photoshop is meant for handling processed images mostly and allows you to do fine local adjustments.
Global means adjustments which are applied to the entire image such as tonal correction etc whereas localized corrections are something like removing a hair out of place, doing composite images, or removing red-eye.
I'd say there's a tiny bit of overlap between the two, but Photoshop was designed for graphic designers, and photographers happened to find it powerful for pixel editing of photograph files. Aperture is intended for photographers and provides the tools and a workflow that they need. I've found others say that they new need Photoshop only 5% of the time and that Aperture (or Lightroom - Adobe's beta, soon-to-be competitor) will do the complete processing most of the time.

  • Using photo shop and muse together. mock up to final design

Hi as .you know from me asking a million questions. i just heard that photo shop can be used as a mock up for web design.  from this video i saw.  i am wondering should this be the work flow that i should be using instead of just jumping into muse like i did before in Dreamweaver.? if thats the case i am willing to change my habit.  i keep hearing that all ideas come from a sketch layout. with the new photo shop sketch tool for ipad.  i am wondering if thats going to be the core for web site ideas.  then finish it in photo shop and finalize it in muse . again design is my weak point thats why i have my degree in commercial graphics/ photography. thats why i enjoy web design. but want to keep it simple.  so would you recommend this idea?
Placing a PSD in Adobe Muse - Muse-Themes.com - YouTube

Integration between Muse and Photoshop is limited to placing PSD files into Muse as images or as rollover buttons at the moment. So if you are looking at a workflow that web designers use with Photoshop > Dreamweaver after slicing, then that is not possible in Muse right now.
Photoshop and Dreamweaver integration on the other hand has been drastically improved with introduction of the Extract service and panel in Dreamweaver. You can read more about that here: Extract a Photoshop design into code in Dreamweaver | Adobe Dreamweaver CC tutorials

  • Trying to "blend with white" in Aperture 3

I am trying to fade each of a large group of pictures toward white in Aperture 3, but am having some difficulty with deep colors.
What I'm looking for, I can get in PS Elements by blending with a white layer on top (with roughly 80% opacity), but I don't see a corresponding functionality in A3. Instead, I'm doing a levels adjustment in A3 (see below). Although A3 is working mostly fine on some of the pictures, all is not well.
In A3, is there some other way to "blend with white"?
Here are some images showing this issue:
    Original
    http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=278501&d=1301283301
    *Edits in A3*
Levels adjustment using Luminance Channel: Dragged center slider to G:0.02. As you can see in the link, it looks pretty good on most of the picture, but some of the red goes to magenta and doesn't fade.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=278502&d=1301283301
    *Edits in PSE*
Blended with a white layer (80%). This is close to the way I'd like the photo to look. I can get a similar effect in Levels in PSE by pushing up the Black Output level.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=278503&d=1301283301
Is there a similar feature in A3 for output levels? (If so I didn't see it.) Is there another way to accomplish this in A3? I want to apply this adjustment to a large number of photos for feeding a mosaic maker, and don't want to have to do them individually in PSE.
    Thanks,
    Dan

The reason I don't want to do this in Elements is that I have 500-2000 photos that I'll probably do this to
Wow. That's a pretty serious mosaic
You'll only be able to do 100 pictures in a single book, since this is the max number of pages it can contain. You'll also run into some problems if you're duplicating versions since only 1 version can be active in a book (album pick). You'll need to make sure none of those versions are stacked together.
But I just recreated your example pretty easily just using curves and a few tweaks in the Exposure and Enhance panels: http://www.laroquephoto.com/wash/wash.jpg
I just spent a few seconds on it so I'm sure you could do better. The trick is to lower contrast below zero by placing your cursor inside the contrast value box and dragging left. Most adjustments can be overdriven this way.
I think this might make your life a bit easier...

i recently bought adobe photo shop elemnts 12 at a local store and they told me i could use it for buisness cards to create them ..as far as i can see it does not ..and they wont let me return it so thats a 100 dollars down the drain unless someone knows how to create buisness cards with it ..please help urgent  thank you

You can download free business card templates that open in PSE at www.avery.com to conform to their paper stock.
    http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Search/?dimsearch=true&N=0&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty= 0&Nr=AND%28SITESCHANNELS%3AAvery.com%29&Ntt=business+card+adobe+template&x=0&y=0
After you download and unzip, double click on the template. The background layer is called "Guides".
Duplicate the background layer (Guides copy)
Place a blank layer between these 2 layers and fill it with white (or any color)
Type your text with the text tool.

  • Photo shopping images... Can it be done??

    Hi
I'm creating a 'target' doc. Basically, as we raise money I want to colour in the image to reflect how much cash we have. I don't have photo shop but surely there's something on Apple that can do it...? Have tried all sorts and am not having any luck! Please bear in mind when answering that I'm a novice!!

    Hi Trueginger70
Welcome to the forum. You could try Pixelmator which is a handsome program offering much of what Photoshop has at a fraction of the price:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25879/pixelmator
You can also do something using a shape as a mask:
    +Toolbar > Shapes > Choose+
You can play with the color/stroke/fill/gradient/transparency in:
    +Inspector > Graphic > Fill/Stroke/Tint/Shadow/Transparency+
You can also drag an image into the shape and by clicking on the Edit button then drag the image up or down to progressively fill the shape.
By overlaying the image with a transparent gradient you can also slide up or down color to give the appearance of progressively coloring the image.
Another method is to have a white .pdf file with a shape hole in it to cover over another image and do similar tricks to the above.
    Let your imagination loose.

  • For some reason my photo shop 4 failes to apply chages after 5 actions.

Good day, I have been using photo shop cs4 on a desktop running windows 7 for some time now.
Fore some reason now when I edit my Nikon raw image and jpeg images I can only make
about 5 types of changes. After that the next action changes do not work the screen does
not show the change. Most obvius is when the problem shows up when I switch to the sharpen
u sharp tool, the privue window is white, I try select a part of the image and no change is made.
I changed the start action and then I can not use the healing brush, no changes it made
with any tool. Once I selected this tool I can no longer change tool in the tools bar.
Today I loaded a system back up from 01/11/2010 (acronis full back up) I have the same
problem??? It was OK before! So does anyone know of a tool that can help me figurte this out.
This may not be a problem within Photo shop but it the starting point.

    Standard questions:
Have you updated to version 11.0.1?
Have you updated your video drivers?
Is you video card compatible? See http://www.adobe.com/go/kb405711
Have you tried turning off OpenGL in preferences?
If the answer is no to any of the above, please take the appropriate action and your problem will probably go away

  • How do I get images from Aperture into print shop for mac?

    Friends,
I have Print Shop for Mac and Aperture. How do I get images from Aperture into Print Shop? I'musing managed images with previews. Is there any option besides exporting to the desktop and importing?
    Thanks!
    Steve

if you have previews turned on in Aperture and they're all genereated, you can simply drag-n-drop them into any application (just about). drag-n-drop is essentially the same as copy/paste as long as the application is setup to accept "drops" onto its windows.
otherwise, if you're running Leopard (10.5) as your version of Mac OS X, when you import (or whatever it is in PrintShop), you should get a file selection dialog. from here, scroll down the left-hand side bar set of icons. near the bottom is a group called "Media". click on the triangle to open the group, choose Photos, and from here you should see an Aperture icon. click this and you'll see your whole library (or at least the portion of it that you have previews generated for. select the photo you want and viola!

  • XP Adobe Photo Shop into Leopard iPhoto 8

I have a PC using friend who is running Adobe Photo Shop on XP. Has lots of photos and is hesitant to move to Mac because of this. Can these photos be somehow exported/imported into iPhoto and keep their tittles and labels and such?

    Bill:
The Document Title, Description and Keyword fields will be carried over into iPhoto if the file is a jpg. Photoshop format files, at least in my test limited test, did not include that data when imported into iPhoto. Those are the only formats I tested.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Aperture duplicating photo's

Has anyone else noticed Aperture duplicating photo's?
I imported about 1000 from a digital camera card earlier today and I'm just going through them now and can see a number of duplications (between 3 and 7 copies of each of the images that have been duplicated) all with the same name. I'm going through deleting them manually at the moment, is there a way to get it to check and delete duplications automatically? How do I stop it from doing it in the future as well?

I would highly recommend to never use that command -- just simply eject and then reformat the card in the camera.
Plus, if something did not get imported correctly, your one and only source to reimport has been wiped. Recommended workflow is to import, check the results, backup.  Only then should you delete the contents of the card.

  • How do you transfer Creative Cloud (Light Room & Photo Shop) from your old Desk top to a new desk top

I have just got a new desk top and I am trying to work out how to get The creative Cloud programs I use (light Room and Photo Shop) off my old Desk top and onto the new desktop. Does any one know how to do this or have already done it, or do you have to cancel the subscription on the old PC and start a new subscription for the new PC.

    Hi Jessica,
You do not need to cancel the subscription. You can simply follow the article: Creative Cloud Help | Download, install, update, or uninstall apps which will help you to install the Adobe CC application on your new PC.
If possible you can also deactivate the license from your previous computer using the article: Activation & Deactivation Help.
Let me know if it works or not.

I have recently updated the new apps via creative cloud now photoshop and bridge no longer work, they open then say they have encountered a problem and close, I also tried opening the old version of photo shop but getting the same result

What OS version? What's the exact error? Exactly when does the error occur? What previous versions? What is on the screen when the error displays? Does Photoshop get fully open?
Try opening Photoshop holding down Shift key immediately to turn off plug-ins. Lots of good suggestions here: Photoshop: Basic Troubleshooting steps to fix most issues

I edited photos in photo shop thay I took off my camera and when I was done I saved them in a folder in my documents as a jpeg. now when I try to open them there is an encryption error  message

The folks here would need far more information from you before they provide help.
You know the drill:  Exact OS...PS version...etc. The more you provide, the better.
What is the exact message that is displayed?
What have you tried so far?
Do the files display on your browser? In Bridge?
What are you doing when it happens?
Are the files still on your cameras card? If so and,you copy one to your desktop and save it without changes, does it reload properly?
Don't worry about providing too much information. Every little bit helps.
