Workflow question: Editing and replacing subclips from Premiere

I have a bunch of  footage, each about 1 minute-long, that I'm cutting in Premier into a collection of 3-second highlight shots. What I want to do is take some of those 3 second shots and fancy them up in AE.
Problem #1:
When I select the trimmed shot in Premiere and select "Replace with After Effects Composition", all I get is a blank composition in AE that is 1 minute long (not 3 seconds like how I trimmed it in the Premiere sequence editor).
Problem #2:
What I did to resolve the issue above is select the trimmed clip, then created a Subclip of it. Then when I selected "Replace with After Effects Composition" it then created a blank composition in AE that was 3 seconds long.
Ok fine, but that still doesn't resolve the blank AE composition. It will be super tedious to import each of the 1-minute footage files into AE and then re-find the 3 second section I already set in Premiere. Am I missing a step somewhere? How do I get After Effects to import that subclip automatically into the library? I tried to export the subclip from Premiere but couldn't find that option.
Is there a better workflow for what I'm trying to do?
Thanks!

Ok I moved all my media files to my main project directory. In Premiere, I selected a clip in my timeline and chose "Replace with AE Composition"
After Effects started up, created a new project file and composition but the media file still didn't show up in the project window. Is it supposed to? Or do I manually have to re-import each movie file into After Effects? As I mentioned, it seems like it will be a tedious task to import the movie files into AE and find that 3-second section again that I cut in Premiere.
Any other ideas or ways I should go about this?
Thanks

  • New document about sequence presets and codecs missing from Premiere Pro

    If you're having problems with sequence presets and codecs missing from Premiere Pro, see this document for solutions for this activation issue.
    This document relates to the following problems:
    - missing sequence presets when creating a new sequence
    - Encore error: "Encore will not launch in non-royalty bearing mode. The application needs to be serialized with a royalty bearing serial number."
    - When opening a project in Premiere Pro: "Error Adobe Premiere Pro: This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
    - When importing footage, the footage is missing audio or video.
    These failures are all because Premiere Pro and Encore use some codecs that require activation before they can be used. If activation of these codecs has failed, these codecs will not be available to use.

    Well done.

  • How can I migrate Adobe digital edition and its library from an old computer to a new one?

    How can I migrate Adobe digital edition and its library from an old computer to a new one?

    Pertains to a Windows machine..
    Definitely get other opinions on this. I last did this myself in 2010.
    The most important thing, is to make sure you have an account (which I think you must have, or you probably couldn't have posted here).
    As I recall, I downloaded ADE to my new computer, launched the software, authorized the new computer by supplying my login, and then just moved the 'My Digital Editions' folder to the new machine.
    Be sure to de-authorize your old machine after you have done all of this, or over time you could end up exceeding your 'simultaneous devices'-limit for accessing your materials. I suspect that *from within the app itself, while it is still installed on your old machine* may be your only opportunity to do this. It is certainly the best/easiest.
    Hey Internet! Have you done this more recently than I? If so, please chime in to make corrections or add detail.

  • Editing and exporting videos from youtube

    I downloaded a justin bieber video from Youtube.com.I edited this video using adobe premiere pro cs5. I tried exporting the file and it seems that I am not able to play the exported file. Is there something wrong with my file selection? Adobe Premiere Pro does not allow editing or exporting copyrighted materials? I am not gonna use the video for any commercial purposes. I am just making a video for my niece who would celebrate here birthday next week. Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
    Can you please give us the full details of the YouTube file that you downloaded and edited, plus your Project/Sequence Preset? Then, what Export settings did you choose? What happens, when you Export?
    CS5 does not know if the material is ©, but that is an ethical question, that you must address.
    Also, starting with YouTube material will never yield good quality, but again, this is something that you must address.
    Good luck,

  • Editing Multiple Audio Clips From Premiere in Audition

    Hi there,
    I am working with video/audio in Premiere that has frequent cuts (although the audio is derived from two files) and I need to edit all the audio files at once, rather than one by one, in Audition. I was hoping to this by nesting the audio in Premiere but I am not able to edit the nested file in Audition after this.
    If anyone has any ideas of how to work with and apply the same properties to multiple audio clips from Premiere in Audition I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks...

    Hi everyone, I also have a trouble with cs6. I just record 3 tracks in the early today, then when I got home, I saved as sexs file ( wrong decision). After that, I went back and try to open the file, it can't file the recording tracks. The only one thing still exist is my beat, what should I do to recovered it? thanks for helping me out of this.

  • How to Edit and Replace Psd Files in Adobe Flash - Help!

    Hi Everyone,
    I am new to flash and I am trying to build my first flash site using a flash template. I can use flash to edit certain components like header text, etc. But The content is impossible for me to change. I think that these are psd files, which I can open with gimp or another program and edit. I save and replace that file, but when I view movie again, the content is the same. I guess what I need to know is how to get these files back into my flash movie after I have edited them. Please help, I am no computer expert, but I am learning. A how to for dummies answer would be awesome.

  • Color and contrast different from Premiere Pro 2 DVD creation

    I found after creating DVD's via Premiere Pro 2 are more saturated and more neutral in color vs encoding through Encore.
    I made a si8de by side test, converted them back to AVI and grabbed the same still of each. The Encore still was lower in contrast (flatter) and a slight bit warmer. over all the DVD compression from PP2 gives a richer look. If you are a film maker or photographer this matters a lot, but not for most users.
    the file sizes from premiere are bigger. for example a 8mbs from a 7:30 avi compression on premiere resulted in 544mb while a 9.4 compression via encore 2 resulted in 464 mb. when changing the mbs from 8-9.4 mbs it resulted in exactly the same size file 464mb. even when starting a new project, which means that there might be a bug and encoding on a unknown predetermined mbs, probably 7. This would explain the flatter look of the Encore 2 compression.
    Does anyone know how to find out at what rate a dvd has been encoded after it's done? knowing that there isn't any difference in the file size between 8mbs and 9.4 mbs shows that there must be a problem.
    This test was done with the Encore DVD 2 trial version. I have vs 1.51 as well and will make a test on this one as well. to see if there is the same problem.

    1. Can you detail your exact method, step-by-step, for both Premiere and Encore?
    encode encoded in premiere 2 at the highest level 9mbs (didn't chapter for a simple auto disk, this is disabled in pp2 but you can save as an mpg2 and import for chaptering in Encore2)
    2. Did you use the exact same source files for all tests, or just files that were the same duration?
    Exactly the same source file, when importing the mpg2 into premiere i simply imported each file in the timelime and saved exactly the frame of each mpg2. All this started when i first compared 2 encodings from a film directors reel where quality is crucial, and saw it immidiatly when playing the 2 different dvd's of the same reel on a DVD player (JVC) and Sony monitor.
    3. Be sure to include project settings and program preferences for both applications.
    encore 2 encoded at cbr 1x 9mbps (highest)
    Premiere 2 encoded at cbr 1x 8mbps (highest)
    when setting to 9mbps in PP2 I get the3 following warning:
    Total Video and audio bitrate (10.536 Mbs) exceeds maximum allowable bitrate (10.030 Mbps) for DVD type of muxing.
    So i reduced the bitrate to 8 and still got a file of 557mb and better color and contrast than Encore2.
    The final results of encoding in PP2 gives an identical DVD mpg as far as color and contrast to the original AVI.
    When encoding at the max rate of 9 in PP1.5 i never got this warning.
    I just repeated the above test on more time in PP2 and Encore DVD 2
    they must use a different codec for Encore2 than PP2.
    Besides the color and gamma shift the image size horizontally is a slight bit different (larger) than the one done with PP2, but not verically.
    you can also encode in PP2 save it as a multiplexed mpg2 file and than chapter it for the final dvd in encore2 which gives you the higher quality results of PP2.

  • Workflow question - IMAC and MacPro combination

    Hi
    QUESTION: what is the simplest workflow to pass an FCP project created on a laptop in the field to the home base desktop?
    BACKGROUND: FCP allows a licensed user to have FCP installed on a desktop and a laptop - as long as only one is hooked to the internet. I've used this set up to capture footage on the laptop in the field and do some simple editing. Right now, I don't have enough Gigabytes on the laptop to store hi-def files. So I just purchased a G-TECH 200GB mini hard-drive, which works slick with the laptop.
    When I'm on the road, shooting, I want the ability to do some editing before I get back to home base. I can do that with the laptop and mini setup. However, I'm not sure how to set up the FCP video file structure on the IMAC and LAPTOP so that I can pass an FCP project to the IMAC and have it fetch the project without getting 100 error message that needed footage, files etc.. is offline.
    I'm thinking about firewire chaining my LaCie hard drives AND the G-Tech and then setting the video structure for FCP exactly the same on both the IMAC and Laptop. I would think that the laptop - when in the field - will not find the LaCie's and will dump everything and retrieve from the G-TECH mini hard-drive. Then, when at home, I pass the laptop FCP project to the Imac (with the mini now on the IMAC hard-drive chain).
    That seems like a work-around. Is there a correct and standard workflow for this situation?

    starinova wrote:

    More like as long as only one is used at a time.
    Anyway, When you capture FCP should store all your footage files in a folder that has the same name as the project. This folder will be inside Capture Scratch, and Capture Scratch's location is set in System Settings in the Final Cut Pro menu.
    When you move from system 1 to system 2 just copy that folder (the one inside Capture Scratch, the one named for your project) from system 1's Capture Scratch folder to system 2's Capture Scratch folder. Obviously copy the .fcp project file too.
    FCP might launch and say it can't find your 100 media files because the path to the media has changed. This is no problem, just point it to the first file and it should find the rest.

  • Problem importing subclips from Premiere

    I'm trying to (warp) stabilize footage  I am using in Premiere.  It's a few 10 and twenty second subclips I created in Premiere, from a 3 minute clip.   I can't figure any way to even see them in AE to import unless I import the whole project, or the whole clip.    When I import the whole project Adobe bestows upon me  the error  "strange situation" that won't clear and requires task manager to shut the application down.  I just want to pull in a few subclips and stabilize them.  Any suggestions?
    I'd prefer not to use dynamic link. It does not look, to me, to be ready for prime time or at least my skill set, which in AE is limited.    Thanks

    A sub clip isn't really physical asset, it is just a reference to an asset. When you copy and paste a sub clip you are copying and pasting the entire clip. Only inside Premiere Pro are the in and out points of the sub clip fixed. Sub clips are a feature that I really never use in PPro because you have to include handles if you want to change the in or out point you have to go back to Edit Sub Clip and work from there. It's a little off topic, but I usually arrange all of the takes for a scene in a single sequence, sync up the sound if shooting double system, eq and compress any dialogue and set the levels using Sequence Mixer - Effects tab, then cut my movie using these sequences rather than the original footage. I find tons of advantages and great time savings. Once I get picture lock I go back and do the visual effects and then complete my mixing in Audition. You get a much better product that is easier to fine tune later, and you are done in less time with fewer problems. I happen to be working on an edit right now. Here's What my PPro project looks like a few hours before final picture lock:

  • Workflow for editing and organizing video with PSE7 and PRE7

    I'm quite new to using PSE to organize my videos, and would appreciate suggestions on tutorials or guides creating a nice workflow to keep the growing number of clips manageable.
    What I've done is to import my videos into a separate catalog, and I kind of hoped that I could make version sets like with still photos. I can't seem to find that option. Is it possible?
    Alternatively, I'd like to just replace the original clip with an edited version, but again I haven't found an easy way to do it.
    Any suggestions on how to start are welcome, also if they take a different approach from what I mention above.

    I've created an overview of the Organizer and its functions for Muvipix.com. You can find it here:

    Otherwise, there's unfortunately little information on it.

  • Workflow for editing and exporting many photos?

    I have a lot of photos from a graduation ceremony to edit in LR3. I want to use the edited photos in a video that I will use Sony Vegas to create.  Vegas will need the edited photos.  Is there a better workflow to get the edited photos on a hard drive than exporting each photo individually after it is edited?  Perhaps some sort of batch export of any photo that has been edited during the LR editing session?
    The photos are .jpg if that matters.

    As mentioned, you don't need to export individually.
    How you select them all could be easier or harder!  I would create a collection, and as you select and edit, then drag into the collection.  You can then look over the collection to make sure everything looks as it should, without the distraction of all the ones you didn't select (there are SO many ways to accomplish this!). I said collections because it's easier to see; you could instead flag them, filter for them,etc.
    Then just cmd/cntrol-A to select them all, and export.
    Cheers!

  • Search and replace, contents from excel file

    Hi
    I have the list in the excel file which needs to replace. The script should read the excel then replace to the opened InDesign documents.
    The excel(*.xls) file has two columns, first column has old nos. and the second column has the new numbers to replace.
    Ex:
    Column 1               Column 2
    (Search)               (Replace)
    4257/2          =>               1/2
    4257/3          =>               1/3
    4257/4          =>               1/4
    3257/2          =>               1/5
    3257/3          =>               1/6
    3257/4          =>               1/7
    4457/4          =>               2/2
    4457/5          =>               2/3
    4457/6          =>               2/4
    4457/7          =>               2/5
    Thanks in Advance,
    Thiru

    @csm_phil:
    this is a very radical method, because:
    1. you don't limit your changeGREP() to a specific table column (possibly the searched texts are found in other strings around the document and changed as well!)
    2. you are in trouble if a certain value you want to change exists more than one time (not likely, but who knows?) and you want to change it in diffrent values per instance. That will fail.
    If we deal with only ONE column of ONE table, to address issue 1 I would ask the user to select the column of the table and instead of:
    app.documents.item(0).changeGrep();
    I would use:
    app.selection[0].changeGrep();
    I don't hope issue 2 will apply in this case.
    @mr. pathi:
    However, in the case of only one column of one table to change AND if the new excel file contains ALL entries in the exact order (both all old and all new values), you could change the contents of the column by copying from excel to InDesign. No script necessary. The formatting of the old cells will be retained.
    You cannot do that by placing the new table to InDesign and copy/paste the new column to the old one, because the formatting of the copied column will be transferred as well (paste without formatting is not an option here).

  • My Mac Pro flashes the question mark and wont boot from hard drive, flash, or Cd... Please help!

    My Computer froze so I shut it down... When I tryed to boot up again it wouldn't power up.  After a few tweeks I got it to power up but now it wont boot from the hard drive, flash drive or a cd.  It want to start, then, after a few seconds it stops.  Not sher what to do.  Can anyone help?

    Have you tried Safe Boot?
    You also might reset PRAM and reset SMC.
    Have you tried booting with the Recovery System? See its possibilities here.
    From there you can make repairs to your primary startup partition.
    Do you have a backup? If not, do you have an external drive large enough to back up your primary drive? It would be good to have one in case your drive needs repair or replacement.

    If photos were synced from your computer then they can't be deleted directly on the iPad, you will need to remove/de-select them from where you synced it from on your computer and re-sync.

    If I click edit, the thumbnails appear across the top and if I select mail, the drop down asks which size I want and I select that. Then, when the final drop down is supposed to appear...it drops and immediately goes back up. If I selected EDIT, the edit button (and the others) go gray.
