Workflow using Photoshop under Parallels Desktop

Photoshop under Parallels
As a switcher from Windows, I still have some programs only for windows, one of them being Photoshop. So if I want to do some professional retouching I have to go to windows, which I'm running under paralells Desktop.
My problem is the following:
I do not really know the best way to access the photos that are stored in the iPhoto Database under Originals or Modified.
Do you have any workflow suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you had an external HD, formatted for PCs but one that Macs can read, Fat32 I think, you could store your photos on that drive and then use iPhoto in it's alias mode (see iPhoto's Advanced preferences section) so that the source files would be left on that external HD where Windows could access them.
However, you would not be able to move or rename the source files in either Windows or Mac's Finder. Any editing on the Windows side would be visible by iPhoto but the thumbnail in iPhoto would not represent the edit. Any edit by iPhoto would stay in iPhoto (the modified file is saved in iPhoto's library folder) and not be available to the Windows side.
I don';t know if this method would work if the source files were stored on the Windows partition as I don't know if the Mac has access to that partition when you're in OS X. It might, however, eliminating the need for an external HD. Here are some Tutorials on the alias system that might be of use to you if you go that route.

double-click opens Excel Office 2011 for mac without the document.
It should open the document in Excel 2010 for Windows.

In Parralells, choose the file you want to open.
Right Click on it and choose Properties.
In the General Tab you will see "Opens with:"
Click the "Change ... " button.
Then choose Excel 2010. The checkbox below should be set to "Always use ... "

Tag disappears after using Excel in Parallel Desktop

When I add a tag to an excel sheet in Finder the Tag is visible and working. When I open the excel file in Office 2013 in Windows using Parallel Desktop (latest version), the tag disappaeres. After that I can't find the file anymore when viewing the relevant Tag. Anybody an idea what to do? Or is it a bug which needs fixing?

Aperture workflow using Photoshop

All,
To those pro digital photographers out there, or anyone doing high volume and/or serious adjustments (beyond what Aperture can provide), I am interested in what the workflow looks like for those who are using both Aperture and Photoshop.
I am now in my fourth day of using Aperture, and I feel I've been brought to a crossroads of deciding whether to use Aperture at all, despite the fact that I love some of its features, and I'd like to use it. Here are the parameters acting on the situation:
1) I must have the ability to edit my RAW, original photos on open (first edit) using Adobe Camera RAW.
2) I have to have Photoshop as my image editor (for many reasons, just assume its non-negotiable).
Seems simple enough. But these things are my hurdles:
1) Inability to get at my Aperture files on the filesystem.
2) Inability to save from Photoshop directly into Aperture. This is very important if I decide to "Save As..." from Photoshop or do something like create a Picture Package which saves as a new PSD.
3) Inability to open into Camera RAW.
4) Inability to save layers in PSD files in Aperture.
I am trying to be the optimist here and keep an open mind. But honestly, if Photoshop is an integral part of your workflow, how are these obstacles not a deal-killer?
I'd like to hear from any of you who are using both Aperture and Photoshop together. What does your workflow look like?

It's only a workaround rather than a proper solution, but for this bit have a look at the thread on tethered shooting, I listed the steps to set up a hot folder - any image copied or saved to that folder will automatically be imported into Aperture. There is even an option to delete the 'dropped in' file so that the folder doesn't clog up with temporary files.

Using Wireless under Parallels

Hi
I jus installed Parallels, and subsequently Win XP Pro SP2.
I can't seem to use the wireless network. Under Network Connections, I don't see Wireless Connection. Only a Local Area Connection.
I am also using Parallel Tools. Or should I use the native network?
What should I do to get wireless network?

did you install the "additional software" from within parellels? (I forget what it is called, don't have it infront of me)
In your vertual machine, you have to select wireless - looks something like 0.1 or something.
maybe someone else can have a look at their settings.
A quick look on their site:

shows installing the additional Tools. Have you installed these? (page 23)
and on page 28 it shows that Network adaptor needs to be set for en1 Airport/Wireless

Workflow using photoshop elements as external editor

Hi.
I am very satisfied with aperture 3. I think it is an excellent program, and the organization of pictures are excellent. I love all the editing options as well. However I looked at some tutorials on photoshop elements 9, and really like some of the editing options there, so I am thinking of buying that program. I would like to use aperture 3 as my main photo editing program and organizing all my pictures via aperture 3. However on some pictures I would like to use elements to edit (remove unwanted persons and do on). As I understand it, i will have to set up aperture 3 so that elements will be my external editor. Will the changes I make in elements then be saved in the project library in aperture 3.
Can anyone with experience on this elaborate?

Gunfighter, how did you do it? The only options the "home" screen provides are (1) welcome screen opens on start, (2) organizer starts behind welcome screen or (3) editor starts behind welcome screen. Surprisingly, when I start Elements 9 on its own, the welcome screen doesn't show and the program immediately opens in the edit mode. However, when I'm in Aperture and go to external editor, Elements 9 immediately opens with the welcome screen and the picture never transfers from Aperture to Elements; very frustrating! Appreciate any help you can provide.

Problem with Adobe Reader running under Parallels Desktop 4.0

If I try to save a file as .PDF under MS-Word 2007 I get the answer that the reader is not installed whether it is insalleld. If i choose install now I get the Information that I can repair or remove the reader. Can anybody help me to fix this problem

Moving iTunes library from WIN to MAC os X with Parallels desktop

I just move from PC to MAC ! I would like to synchronize my itunes library (music and appli) with my iPhone / iPad in the new environment. I'm still using Win 7 under Parallels desktop under Mac os.
What is the best solution ?

I don't think you can do this without using the Consolidate function (which requires you to have "Keep iTunes Music folder organised" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked).
However, if you were willing to accept a slight modification to your present set-up I think something could still be done. First you need to look at this article :

Assuming you've followed that route, you now have all your WAV files in iTunes. Here you can adapt the Genre tag to sort / create playlists from not only what iTunes puts in there, but your own additional Genre information also (for example I've combined all my Soul R&B and Disco genres by adding the SRBD suffix to each separate genre then using that suffix to pull them all up if I want). I also use the Comment tag to store release date (or in my case, Chart Entry date, but it's the same principle).
Bottom line, I don't think you can exactly replicate your current setup, but I think you can modify it.

Magic Mouse and Parallels Desktop

I would like to get the Magic Mouse for my iMac, but I run some Windows apps in XP under Parallels Desktop. Is the mouse going to function at all in this mode? From other threads, it looks as though it might work with reduced functionality, but those discussions pertained to Boot Camp. I want to figure this out before buying the new mouse.

My Magic Mouse does left-click and scroll only in Windows XP Pro (SP3) running on Parallels Desktop 4.03846. I'm on a 2.8 GHz MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.8.
For what it's worth, I do love the mouse and its design, but no right-click prevents me from using it at work (where I primarily use Windows). It really hurts to plug in my USB Microsoft mouse!
If you have any tips to get the three basic functions working (left-click/right-click/scroll), I'm listening...

How to uninstall apps that I installed in parallel desktop 6 after I uninstalled PD6?

I just uninstalled Parallel Desktop 6 today, but I recognized those apps i installed under parallel desktop still exist in Launchpad.
So, anyone knows how to uninstalled those apps completely or get rid of those apps from Launchpad

How do I fix this terrible problem?
If it requires a Photoshop CS5 re-install, (I belief that it may fix the problem) and re-install the two third party plugins (NIK Viveza) and (Onone Perfect Resize) how and where do I get to the proper Adobe upload page to do that.
I have tried to fix this problem by changing the memory allocations, I have spend many hours on it and are very disgusted with it but it needs to be fixed. The current memory settings are;
Ram available = 1588 MB
Range = 873 -1143 MB
Recommended Photoshop usage range = 857 however I have tried every setting to max and in between. Nothing works. Current setting = 1588 (max)
The Photoshop I use is registered, I have product # and order # .

Contact NIK for updated/upgraded versions of their plug-ins. They have been having a lot of issues with their plug-ins.

Using SBO client under Mac with Parallels Desktop for Mac

A client uses Mac for one of the users, and ask me if it is posible use SBO 2005 SP01 with Parallels Desktop for Mac. Any experiences?

I also Installed Adobe Photoshop 10 in the Windows 7 mode (running as a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop). Both programs indicate that they are activated. If I boot the computer in the Windows 7 mode (not using Parallels Desktop) and start the Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 program it indicates that it is NOT activated and that I "already have two copies activated".
Question: Since I only actually have two copies activated how do I get the program activated for the Windows 7 boot operating mode?

Should I Use Boot Camp or Parallels for use of a Windows Desktop?

I am migrating from a PC to a Mac; I want to take advantage of having a Windows desktop to run some apps until i buy Mac equivalent software;
I have Tiger, but am installing Leopard this weekend;

I am tempted by not having to reboot, but i don't want my mac to slow down?
I am a photographer and use Photoshop and other graphics intensive programs.

Hi,
to achieve full computing power while in Windows you have to use BootCamp and for Photoshop and other apps of that caliber in Windows its the best.
For apps less demanding using Parallels (VMWare Fusion) is sufficient enough and the slight downgrade in speed is negligible.
You should however (if not already done) max out the RAM of your Mac.
