Workgroup Hub Model EFAH05W

I received a hub from a friend so I could set up two computers in my home. I have a new computer with a Windows Vista Operating systema nd my old computer has Windopws XP. My Windows Vista computer is running fine, however I am unable to get a internet connection on my Windows XP system. This si all new to me so I amy be missing something simple. Thanks

Hi… Do you have a Router? If you just have a modem then only one of the computer would be able to go online.

  • Hub -- Model No. EFAH05W

    Hi guys,
I bought an EtherFast 10/100 workgroup hub (Model No. EFAH05W) and I got a problem here.
I think hub is a network repeater, so if I send one packet from PC1 to device (dest addr: 00:00:00:00:00:03, src addr: 00:00:00:00:00:01) through hub, PC2 can also get this packet, right?
    But the fact is:
One packet from PC1 to device (dest addr: 00:00:00:00:00:03, src addr: 00:00:00:00:00:01), only device can get this packet, no PC2.
One broadcast packet from PC1 to network (dest addr: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF, src addr: 00:00:00:00:00:01), PC2 and device can get this packet.
One packet from PC1 to an invalid target (dest addr: 00:24:54:00:00:06 (invalid mac address), src addr: 00:00:00:00:00:01), PC2 and device can get this packet.
Can you tell me if those situations are correct? Your hub can filter mac address as switch??
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply!  I did some experiments for this.
PC1, PC2 and device connect with hub together. Let's say PC1 with port1, PC2 with port2, device with port 4.
    1) When device sends one packet to PC1 (dest mac addr: 00:00:00:00:00:01, src mac addr: 00:00:00:00:00:03) through hub, PC2 couldn't get this packet.
    2) When I remove PC1 and device sends the same packet again, PC2 still couldn't get this packet.
    3) If I change PC2 (port 2) to port1 that previously connected by PC1, device sends the same packet and PC2 can get this packet. (PC1 is still removed.)
    4) If I change PC2 to other ports which are not port1, PC2 couldn’t get this packet. (PC1 is still removed.)
    5) I reboot hub (turn off and turn on the power), and test again without PC1. PC2 can get the device packet through all ports.
    6) Once I connect PC1 to hub again, only that port can get the packet until PC1 changes its port.
So I think your hub can detect the mac address of PC1 once PC1 connect with hub and not broadcast the packet belongs to PC1.
My purpose of this project is to use PC2 as a network sniffer to get the packets between PC1 and device on the data link layer using winpcap. Do you think it’s possible?

  • Using Ethereal with EFAH05W workgroup hub

Using Ethereal to sniff network data.  Trying to capture all traffic on the subnet, but only captures TCP traffic going to the machine running Ethereal.  Read that some hubs are actually 'switched' hubs, therefore will only capture data going to that machine.  Is the EFAH05W a 'switched' hub?  If yes, are there any recommended 'non-switched' hubs that will perform this task?

I've been trying to do the exact same thing with my EFAH05W hub.  I've found that if I use a seperate PC to run the packet analyzer SW and monitor the network traffic, I won't be able to reliably see all the traffic (none of the traffic most of the time).  I loaded my packet analyzer SW on one of the notebooks on the network and was able to see all the traffic.  I suspect that the EFAH05W hub does not share all traffic on all ports.  I've been reading some of the info on the Wireshark.org website and learned that the Linksys RVS4000 might be a good choice for sniffing network traffic.  Apparently the RVS4000 has a feature that allows traffic on other ports to be mirrored on one port.  When I read the User Guide for the RVS4000 this wasn't very obvious to me.  I'm still digging on this topic.

  • Self assinged IP address when going thru a Workgroup HUB

    Hello
Thank your for reading this post.
This is my set up: (Please keep in mind I have only modest networking exp. but I was told this hub would be fine. We used to use it (previously we had 2 discrete IP addresses however, but I thought a HUB could split a single address as well. Do I need to configure the imac’s network preferences?)
    Cable modem
    |
    |
    Workgroup Linksys Hub
    |_______________wired imac connected with LAN cable
    AirportExpress _ _ _ _ |
    |
    |
    MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro can get online in any configuration (including when the modem cable is going into the uplink port on the HUB. The imac on the other hand is wired to the HUB but cannot connect because - according to Network Preferences I am using a self assigned IP address.
Any idea what I need to do...

I thought a HUB could split a single address as well.
Sorry, but no. The configuration you are using will not work as you intended. If you need to share the cable modem's single Ethernet connection with multiple (wired/wireless) computers you will need a wireless router with a built in Ethernet switch, like the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or models from other vendors. Although your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a wireless router, it's Ethernet port is only enabled when the AX is configured as a relay/remote base station in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS.)
Another option would be to connect the AX directly to the cable modem and then acquire a wireless upgrade for the iMac.

  • Linksys 8 Port Workgroup HUB with 1 BNC connection

I am trying to capture data using Wireshark and this HUB. I am unable to recognize the device connected on the RJ-45 port but I do see the devices connected via the BNC connection. Someone has suggested this HUB is really a switch. Can you provide any guidance to successfully capture data?
    thank you.
    Paul

What is the model no of the Hub...?
Have you checked all the RJ-45 ports...?
Which device is connected to the RJ-45 port on the HUB...?
Please explain the network configuration so that we can provide you the possible solution.

  • Ibook lost from network

    I have an:
    -Airport Extreme (802.11n)
    -Airport Express (modem)
    Until recently I had my:
    -Ibook G4 (OSX 10.3)
    -Imac G5 (OSX 10.4)
    -Mac Mini (OSX 10.4)
all on my network and connecting to the internet. After messing with the settings I've managed to get everything back except for the Ibook which can't connect to the network nor therefore the internet.
I have both the stations set up:
    -channel 1
    -n (b/g compatible)
    -WPA/WPA2 Personal 128
Airport utlity is kept at v7.2 to include the Express base station.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS??

Thanks so much for responding, Tesserax.
My hub is a "Linksys 5-Port Workgroup Hub," model EW5HUB.
The cable modem is plugged into the port called "Uplink." The Mini is plugged into port 1, the eMac into port 2, and the Airport into port 3.
The network has functioned properly in the past (the iBook used the printer plugged into the Mini, and we shared files back and forth). Recently, I had to reset the Airport, but I thought I had reconfigured it correctly. In short, Airport configuration would be my main suspect here.
I'm afraid I don't know what (if anything) is supplying NAT service. I assumed it was something the Airport does -- allowing it to sort out the flow of data to the various computers. The question is beyond my expertise level because I don't really understand what NAT service is. Is the problem in my Airport's Network configuration?
My ISP assigns IP addresses dynamically, so my Airport doesn't have a static IP address. However, my ISP allows for only two IP addresses, so I need my ethernet computers to also share the Airport's address.
I hope that, somewhere during my ramblings, a light has gone off in your more enlightened mind. Thanks again for your help!

  • IBook disappears from network when using Airport

Hi there. Until recently my wife and her iBook have happily shared files back and forth with my Mini, and she has been able to use my shared printer. Now, when she's connected to the internet through our Airport Graphite, our computers no longer show up on each other's network, and she can't find my shared printer.
I'm not sure if I have a software or hardware problem, but I can't figure it out on my own.
We have two desktops (a Mini and an eMac) connected to a cable modem through an ethernet hub. The Airport Graphite is also connected to the hub. The Airport is configured to distribute IP addresses, and ethernet client computers also share a single IP address (using NAT).
If we unplug the ethernet cable from our eMac and plug it into my wife's iBook, the iBook and Mini can once again "see" each other, and my wife can access my shared printer. When we unplug the ethernet from the iBook and go back to using the Airport, the iBook can still access the Internet, but it disappears from the local network.
I'm hoping there's a simple explanation that I'm missing. I'd be grateful for some help!

  • B2B : Hub trading partner model

    Dear All,
We are facing an issue while using the hub model.
    Use case :
1# We need to send an EDI 850 document from TP1 and TP2 to  TP3.
    Source : TP1 , TP2
    Target : TP3
We configured the agreements between following.
    TP1 --> host TP --> TP3
    TP2 --> host TP --> TP3
The files are getting generated successfully.
But we could not have the Source TP name in the ISA segment from TP value. We see the HiostTrading partner name.
What configuration change we need to do , So that TP1 / TP2 name will be shown in generated ISA segment fromTP element.
    Thanks in advance.
    Siddhardha.

    Hi Naresh,
As of now only directory name (leaf folder) or filename can be used for TP identification in case of File/FTP (except EDI). If your use case does not allow any of these, then please file an enhancement request with support.

  • Hookup Linksys Broadband Cable Router with Linksys Hub

    Hello All,
New here and have ran into an issue and I thought what better place to go then to here for help.
Ok here is my situation.  I am currently running cable internet with the LinkSys RT31P2 Broadband Router and the LinkSys EFAH05W 5 Port Workgroup Hub.  I currently have 2 IP's one is shared and one is running 1 system as we have 3 computers.
I had issues awhile back with one of the IP's not registering after the cable company changed my IP addy's.  They told me I had the hardware wired improperly and that was the cause of my issue.  Well since then I got the one computer running on it's IP without changing anything.  Now all the sudden that computer cannot connect to the internet again.
Here is the way I have it wired.  Wire from Cable modem going into Hub (Uplink slot), then a Grey wire from the #1 slot in Hub running to router (Internet slot)  The one system with it's own IP is hooked up to the #2 slot in the hub and the other 2 shared connecting computers in the 1&2 Slots of the Router.
Now I am wondering one of 2 things: 1) IP is blocked for some reason from the cable company or 2) the Hub has gone bad.  Cause if I unhook the the one system on its own IP and plug it into the #3 slot in the router it gains access to the net.  If I unplug one of the system on the router and plug it into the hub I loose internet.
My 2 questions are pertaining to this thread is:
    1) is there a way to tell if the hub is actually bad as it is about 5+ years old?
    2) Is my wiring setup properly before I call the fricking cable company back and go round and round with them?  Last time I battled them for like a total of 5 Hours on the phone and via live chat about the wiring and really don't want that headache again
Thanks much in advance for your help and expertise on these questions.
    Much Appreciated.
    Ron S.

Just connect the computer with its own IP(i think it is static IP) directly to modem and see if it works, to test if IP address is blocked. Connect router to modem directly to check if modem gives IP address to router. If both work individually, hub might be the issue.

  • USB 3.0 Hub for my iMac

    Good Day!
Just obtained a Belkin 4 port Hub model : F4U073 purchased through MacStore online.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD988ZM/A/belkin-4-port-usb-30-powered-hub?fno de=58
My main purpose was to connect my SuperDrive to it but it doesn't connect.
A message comes up on my iMac monitor indicating that the SuperDrive USB Apple needs to be connected to a Mac's USB port.
    3 Questions :
    Why is this? Any idea?
Is it worth the purchase or investment if I connect other USB cables to the USB Hub and attach the SuperDrive to the iMac's USB port?
Do I need to use the Power Supply for it to work on my iMac? (It seems to work without it.)
Do I need to use the Power Supply for it to work on a MacBook? (Haven't tried it yet)
    Cheers for the New Year!
It will be going down to -20° C or -6° F tonight.
    Keeping warm...

    SMC Reset:
    Shut down the iMac
    Unplug the iMac's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the iMac's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the iMac.
The SuperDrive device must be plugged directly into your iMac.
A SuperDrive device connected to a hub will not have access to extra power above the standard USB specification of the port the device is connecting to
(500 mA for USB  2, and 900 mA for USB 3).
The USB port providing extra power is determined by the SuperDrive device that requires power beyond 500 mA for USB  2, or 900 mA for USB 3.  The remaining ports will continue to offer their normal maximum output.  Some Apple Macs may offer the ability to operate more than one USB port at 1100 mA at 5 V. On those computers, the second port is enabled when an appropriate device is connected.

  • I can't get my iPhone 4S to charge with a usb (2.0) hub

I have an Early 2011 17" MBP, (10.7.4), and my iPhone 4S charges just fine when plugged directly into any of it's (3) USB ports.
However I am having no luck getting it to charge, (or be recognized by iTunes for that matter), through a powered Belkin 7-port USB 2.0 hub, (model F5U237.)
While it would be nice for this to just work, I would also like to hear from anyone with suggestions for a different USB hub, that does consistently charge their iPhone.
I have read cases with people who have to plug and unplug their usb hubs, or power supply, to get them to work.
If I were interested in this scenario, I'd just keep doing what I am already doing, --swapping out USB's from my MBP.
I am simply looking for a totally reliable solution, that never needs such nonsense to work consistently.
Thanks for any and all help!

I knew it was several years old, I had one and never got it to work with my iPhone 3G. I use the Kensington, looks like half a ball, but just about any new one should work. Keep in mind if you connect a lot of devices that are pulling power it may affect it.
Polls are a violation of the Terms of Use here so I wouldn't post one. You might check with http://www.iLounge.com and read the reviews there.

  • Where do I get the AC to DC Power Adapter for a Linksys "Compact USB 4-Port Hub [USBHUB4C]

I have two Compact USB 4-Port Hubs, Model Number USBHUB4C.  These Hubs can be powered, but I cannot find any information on External Power Adapters for these Hubs in any of the documentation or on the Linksys Web Site.
I need to know if Linksys has such Power Adapters available, and if so what the Model Numbers are, and how or where to purchase them.
If I will need a third party Power Adapter, I need to know what the Output Voltage & Current requirements are, and I also need to know the Polarity of the of the two Jack Contacts.  [i.e. Is the center pin on the Hub's Jack Positive or Negative?]  If possible I'd like to have a recommended Brand and Model Number for the Power Adapter.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Bruce

    Hi, again,
Boy, am I glad I was able to find an answer to my problem in here.  I find this very interesting. Here it is, almost 3 years after I made the original post, that I need to find the Power information, for this Device, again, but because of a Computer Crash, I could not get to the original notes, I made about this Forum Entry, so I began the search, again.
I find this very interesting. Here it is, almost 3 years after I made the original post, that I need to find the Power information, for this Device, again, but because of a Computer Crash, I could not get to the original notes, I made about this Forum Entry, so I began the search, again.
I have myriad AC/DC Converters, some of which are Voltage Selectable, but since the Power Specifications aren't on the HUB, or in the PDF Documentation, as is the case with most other Products, I came back to LinkSys/Cisco.  As soon as I entered the Model Number of the "Compact USB 4-Port HUBs, Model Number USBHUB4C," for a search, this Forum entry came up on the page, and it appears there haven't been any queries, on any other subject, about this Device, in the interim.
Since the entry has been Viewed 2,484 times, hasn't it dawned on someone that it might be a good idea to carry a Power Product, that is compatible with this HUB, or at least provide a Specific Source, with a Model Number, (for instance, a Radio Shack SKU) so we don't need to hunt for one, over, and over.  Why the information was never included in the package with the HUB, beats me.  (It should have been on the Device, itself.)
Anyone who knows anything about USB Devices, knows that many of them cannot be powered from the USB Ports on a Computer, especially, on Laptops.  Since one of the things mentioned in the Specifications is the fact that you can have "Max. Devices 127 (Daisy-chaining Hubs Together)," it would seem to be obvious that Power Information would be necessary.  Since the "Daisy Chain" number is true, it should be obvious, that the "Chain" would require quite a few AC/DC Adapters to power it, adequately.
When this Device was Designed, the requirement for External Power must have been known, or there would never have been a Power Connector built into the Device.  I've been in electronics for about 50 years, now, and I know that presently, it's a rarity that the Power Requirements aren't shown on the Device itself, with a Symbol depicting the Polarity of both the Inner, and Outer Conductors.  Even Toys have that information shown on them.
I love these HUBs, but LinkSys/Cisco has really dropped the ball on this one.  I'm guessing that a lot of people have discovered, that if this 4-Port USB HUB doesn't have External Power, they quickly decided not purchase another one, when they need to "Daisy Chain" them together, for their Network of USB Devices.
When you consider the loss of HUB Sales, coupled with a loss of income from a Power Supply they've never stocked, the numbers could be quite large.  That's not even considering the Support time I'm guessing would have been necessary when Customers determined they had a problem, and needed answers.  (It's not really a guess, since I talked to several Support People, without getting a satisfactory answer, before I finally came to this Forum, as a last resort.)
I was actually shocked to find that LinkSys/Cisco, didn't sell an AC/DC Power Supply for the HUB, because Power Supplies like that are so commonly required, with the Electronics sold, today.  I'd be willing to wager that LinkSys/Cisco does, in fact, carry an AC/DC Power Supply that would be compatible with the "Compact USB 4-Port HUBs, Model Number USBHUB4C," they sell.  When something like this happens, I wonder how many other Opportunities like this, have been missed by the people who work for this company.
We've all heard the expression about "Being too close to the Forest, to see the Trees."  This may be a good example of it's meaning.  At least I was able to find the answer to my Problem, thanks to the fact that the Query I made almost, 3 years ago, which had an answer, was still available to me, thanks to this Forum.
    Very Interesting!

  • USB hub that allows bootcamp to start

I've found quite a few people running into this problem on the forums: my bootcamp won't boot when there's a usb hub attached to my macbook pro.
Does anyone know of a USB hub model that will allow booting? I've tried 3 already and none work and I'm tired of disconnecting the usb hub every time I boot in bootcamp...
    Thanks!

    I tried the following hubs:
    - Dell monitor (powered)
    - Targa 4 port (unpowered)
    - dlink 7 port (powered)
They all exhibit the same behavior.
What I was looking in this post was someone running into this issue and what hubs fix their problem...
It isn't the hub on its own preventing the boot, it's only when certain devices are attached through the hub...But the devices are not the issue, since system would boot if devices are plugged in directly (but with only 2 usb ports, that's not an option either).
    Thanks

  • SIIG Firewire Hub - Mac compatible or not?

Has anyone used the SIIG 6 port Firewire hub model NN2651? I can't believe that a hub wouldn't be compatible, but when I go the the SIIG website they only mention Windows (blech!) compatiblilty. I like it because it is bigger than the Belkin and is less likely to get pulled off the desk by the weight of the cables.
I'd like to be able to use it with both my iMac G5 and Powerbook G4. Both are running OS X 10.4.3.
    Thanks!
    iMac 20; PowerBook G4 15   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Firewire is an industry standard (IEEE 1394) so any Firewire hub should work with any Firewire device, Mac or PC. SIIG's unit looks identical to this AddLogix hub which is explicitly mentioned as being Mac compatible. So the SIIG should work without problems, but if you're not comfortable buying a device from a company that doesn't list Mac compatibility, go with the AddLogix.
