Workgroup Manager - AFP Login Items no longer mount

A wierd problem.
I have the same URL in my Login Items for all of my groups in Workgroup Manager. It is to mount a folder share. After logging in as any network user, the share will not mount, and I do not even receive an error saying that it couldn't be mounted. Also, while still logged in as a network user, even as an admin network user, and I click "Go...Connect to Server" I can connect to the server, but the share doesn't even show up, though all the other shares do. Also, when I log in locally as an administrator, or from any other computer not going through OD, I can browse to the server and hit the share.
In my attempts to trouble shoot, I have changed the URL for the share in Login Items to mount the share with SMB, and it does work.
Seems as though the problem is taht the share is being blocked to all network users when logged in through OD.
What do you suggest?

In Server Admin, under file sharing. Select your sharepoint.
Click the "Share Point" button below the file browser.
Check to make sure that all the settings are correct.
ie, if it's not a home folder location don't have auto mount checked. Also in the protocol options, check to make sure that you have the right protocols selected. AFP and SMB are probably all you need.

  • Workgroup Manager and Login Picture

    I would like to manage the login screen picture from Workgroup Manager (the 'DefaultDesktop.jpg'). I know where to change the picture in CoreServices. I am looking for a solution where I do not have to touch all computers in the building in order to change this setting.

    I suggest you ask in the Leopard Server forum.

  • Unable to access Login Items for Accounts in System Preferences

    I've created an image for computers at my school. When I go into System Preferences>Accounts, and authenticate, I am unable to access the Login Items tab. The tab isn't grayed out or anything. It's just that when I click on it, nothing happens. It stays on the Password tab. The only way I can get out of it is to quit System Preferences. Any ideas?

    If you are connecting to a OS X Server, make sure that you're not managing Login Items (Click on Preferences in WorkGroup Manager, then Login, then the Items tab). I had the same problem and setting that preference to Never solved it for me.

  • How do i remove blackberry from Login items in lion?

    any idea? I'm trying to remove blackberry device manager from login item but the its checked and greyed out.

    Backup your files to a external data drive and disconnect
    Reboot the computer holding the Shift key down to enter Safe mode, the third party kernel extensions will be disabled.
    Try the BB uninstaller again and/or
    Look in your System/Library/Extensions folder for anything that has the "Blackberry" or "RIM" name in the extension (with .kext at the end of the file) and move it out of the folder.
    You may have to consult their web site for a manual uninstall method. Kext stands for Kernel extension obviously.
    the free Easy Find can help you locate the files in that folder.

    That should kick anything out of OS X itself, then it's just a matter of removing anything in the Applicaitons folder.
    If there are remnants still in your user, you can always create a new user and transfer your personal data via the root level/Users/ "shared" folder, once up, then remove the old user.

  • Why don't network volume mounts (login items) configured in Profile Manager show up

    Using Lion server and Lion clients.  Bound both the server and client to Active Directory and successfully got Profile Manager up and running.  All I really need from Profile Manager is the ability to mount network volumes so when the user logs in it mounts their home directory.  Please note we do not specify any home directory paths in AD.  I can login with my AD accounts on the Lion client and get other Profile Manager settings to work, however when I try and mount a network volume via login items nothing happens.  I am using SMB for this.  If I try to manually connect to the same path via Go -> Connect To Server it works fine.  For a simple test I even created a folder on one of my Windows servers D drive and shared it and within profile manager configured it as SMB://server/share and still nothing.  I tried setting it in the Dock section as well which I read in another post somewhere but all I get is a question mark.  I have tried all variations of server name, FQDN, ip address, etc.  I know it's not permissions since it works when I try it manually so am really at a loss here.  Is there any way to log what happens at login to see if it's even trying to mount the volume?  I do know the client is getting the profile since i can see it in system preferences but it never works.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    @bkma did you find any solution? i run into the same problem.

  • Cannot delete login item "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator"

    We migrated a server (ldap and file serving) to some new machines, which have new names.  We've got all of the login and file sharing functionality working on the new machines, but wherever we have a mount of a share in the Login Items for a user, we can't get the old machine out of the Login Items.  It's not fatal, but it does make login take a lot longer because it has to fail first.
    We can mount the share from the new server, and save THAT in a NEW Login Item just fine -- it's just that when you click on the old defunct one the minus sign is greyed out, and the mouseover says "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator."  There is a yellow triangle next to the item in the list.  Went into the user's ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist and it's not in the file.  The /Library/Preferences don't have anything that looks like a plist of the right name.
    Where do I find it and how do I get rid of it?

    In response to ManishBhatt94's post today, I may have some information that may be useful to you. I called Microsoft's 800-642-7676 and spoke with a technical representative with questions pertaining to my particular issue. I also have friend that has the
    same issue with her computer running windows 8. A representative from my ISP told me how to go into 1)Tools, 2)Internet Options, 3)Connections, 4)LAN settings and uncheck the proxy settings box. However after restarting or shutting down my computer it reappears.
    It will also reappears while I play games on Facebook not allowing me continue until I go back into the proxy settings in LAN and uncheck the box AGAIN and AGAIN. A local owner of a computer repair shop told my friend that it was a virus. After speaking with
    Microsoft today I was told the same thing/it was more than likely a virus on my personal PC at home. As most people likely do,  I use wireless internet in my home on the affected computer. Solution; as suggested by Microsoft rep was to have the virus
    professionally removed either by someone or to use their remote service for a fee of $149 which comes with several guarantees and does not require you to re-install software or documents. I hope that my response was of some help to you. I also kept trying
    to fix this problem but wasted a lot of time. He also suggested to Google the proxy problem to see if ANYONE has any alternatives to fixing this problem!

  • Profile Manager & Login Items & Variables

    Hello doomed!
    I tried to use variables such as %short_name% in Login Items (OS X) section in Profile Manager.
    Bad luck again...
    Authenticated Networks Mounts:
    smb://nas-01/Public – works like a charm!
    smb://nas-01/Private/%short_name% – doesn't work
    If someone in Apple walk here once a year, please note this terrible "feature"
    One thousand thx to you.

    Hello!
    Thanks for advices.
    I know how variables in PM works. I use it alot.
    And I have tons of shares which names equal to %short_name% (user login)
    I need mount user-private-space-share (lets call it so) and I can do it in Finder just press Cmd+K and type: smb://nas-01/Private/cook
    where cook equal to AD login cook and of course it equal to %short_name% in my case.
    So, what I do wrong? Thx.
    Sorry for worse language.

  • Cannot login with a account created with workgroup manager on local box

    Hi my name is richard and i recentgly acqquired from one of ,y friends a macbook pro with leopard 10.5.7 and I downloaded the server tools to it because workgroup manager gives me more control over user creation and the like.there are three issues that i am facing right now:
    1) I create an account for a user "VERONICA MARS" short name vmars with a password of apple. when I try to login using that account the login window just sits there and shakes its head at me like no no no wrong cridentials.
    2) using the same account vmars i try to reset her password using wgm and it says that it cannot reset the password.
    3) when i try to create the account it tells me that the home directory cannot be created.
    oh and heres a bonus one:
    most of the time in wgm it takes forever to get from one tab to the next and ill have to do a force quit to restore my mkac back to normal.

  • Open Directory - Unable to login Workgroup Manager

    I am unable to login to Workgroup Manager with my diradmin account.
    I know the password is correct.
    This is on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
    Everything was working fine last night, but then it stopped functioning.  I am able to see all the users, but they are greyed out.  When I try to login, I get "The login information is not valid for this server"
    The LDAP log shows a bunch of the same errors that it did not show before.
    slapd[76]: SASL Failure: GSSAPI Error: Miscellaneous failure.
    Please advise.  Thank you.
    Samson

    Try logging in to Workgroup Manager using the local admin account not the diradmin account. If this works, then try accessing the /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 choice using the diradmin account.

  • Can no longer change or Edit in Workgroup Manager

    I just moved and I was migrating my files to another computer and domain. No I can no longer authenticate to my workgroup manager to change anything.
    Here is what I did.
    Moved across the country
    Carbon Copied my 10.4 Server from my G5 tower to a G5 XSERVE
    Upgraded to 10.5.
    When I thought everything was OK changed my Cable modem IP to me.
    Now I cannot change or add anyone in Workgroup Manager.
    Help

    Exactly the same thing happened to me with two sites I managed after having upgraded the server to 10.5. One site I know the root password and can authenticate to Workgroup Manager using that, all other admin accounts don't work. The other nearly all accounts were broken so I had to use passwd and get the users to change their password before they could log into client machines. I can't get administrative access to Workgroup Manager.
    The interesting thing in both these cases is that the password server logs show the authentication as having succeeded, however Workgroup Manager says the authentication has failed.
    Jan 23 2008 10:22:35 AUTH2: {0x00000000000000000000000000000001, diradmin} DHX authentication succeeded.
    Here's hoping that 10.5.2 fixes these problems.

  • Cant add Apps to login items with profile manager

    I can set up profile manager successfully, and set certain settings like the Dock, the login window, etc. But when I click on Login Items, and try to add an Application, the list of applications is blank. Tried it from my server, tried it logged in remotely, tried rebooting, tried it on several accounts and several groups, and its always empty.

    found it:
    /usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to make new login item with properties { path: "/Applications/iChat.app", hidden:false } at end'

  • Login item on managed account

    Hi all -
    On our iMac running leopard, we'd like the ability to keep a program (VOIP phone program) running all the time regardless of which user is logged in. I figured out how to add the item to the Login Items for the Admin account (me), but there is no option to do the same for our daughter's login (a managed account). I tried accessing it through Parental Controls and even changin her account to Standard, but no luck.
    I've scoured the forum and the web to no avail...any solutions out there?

    what do you mean? you add programs to login items in the same way on all accounts, including parental controlled accounts. log into that account and start system preferences. go to accounts->login items and add whatever you need to add there.

  • 10.6.4 AFP - ACLs - Workgroup Manager :: changes need reboot to take affect

    hello community
    still new to OSX Server I am a bit confused regarding changes made to
    AFP - ACLs - Workgroup Manager
    do changes really need a server reboot to take affect?
    scenario:
    *Workgroup Manager ...*
    User1
    User2
    User3
    GroupFolder1 :: Members -> GroupSubFolder1.1 + GroupSubFolder1.2
    GroupSubFolder1.1 :: Members -> User1
    GroupSubFolder1.2 :: Members -> User2
    *AFP shares & folders with ACLs ...*
    Folder1 :: ACL read for GroupFolder1
    SubFolder1.1 :: ACL read for GroupSubFolder1.1
    SubFolder1.2 :: ACL read for GroupSubFolder1.2
    (SubFolder1.1 + SubFolder1.2 are nested into Folder1
    to make it clear)
    this workz perfect!
    if I now switch in Workgroup Manager the memberships to eg.
    *Workgroup Manager ...*
    User1
    User2
    User3
    GroupFolder1 :: Members -> GroupSubFolder1.1 + GroupSubFolder1.2
    GroupSubFolder1.1 :: Members -> User2 + User3
    GroupSubFolder1.2 :: Members -> User1
    this will only take effect when rebooting the server.
    I tried to ...
    start/stop AFP
    restart ldap, by deselectingsaving/selectingsaving the SSL cert for OpenDirectoryService
    restart the clients
    nothing helped but restarting the MacMiniServer
    server and all clients are running 10.6.4
    cannot be that one has to reboot the whole machine to make AFP - ACLs - Workgroup Manager changes take effect?
    ok I am running a rather small setup, but what if ya want to integrate a new user into a bigger environment? this will lead to a disconnect for all users connected or an "over-night-wait-time" for the new user, whilest scheduleing a reboot somewhere in the night? but even then what if people are connected in different timezones overseas via vpn?
    where is the hook to make the settings take effect immediately after saving the changes?
    any other info I can provide to reproduce/solve the issue?
    rgds,
    g.

    Well that suggestion from the site referenced above about tearing the OD down, deleting the slapd.conf files and bringing it back up didn't work. 10.5 servers still see changes in OD as they happen and 10.6 servers don't see the change until around 10 minutes later.
    Anyone run across this and fixed it?

  • Profile Manager Login Item Apps

    Where does Profile Manager get the list of apps that you can select from for the applications to load at login in the "Login Items" payload?
    I have several apps that I've added on the server, but they do not show up in the list of applications?!?  Weird.

    I would reccomend the use of a Login banner if you have that much content.

  • Workgroup Manager "Unreachable host" at login

    Hi, I have a problem where Workgroup Manager won't let you authenticate to your server. Happens both locally on the server and remote.
    Using View Directories in Server-menu "Com+D" gets you in, and here you are able to "unlock" your directories, i.e. authenticate in both local and LDAP domain.
    A restart usually fixes this, sometimes it takes two or three. Has anyone else seen this, or have a solution to the problem.
    Regards
    Patrik Jerneheim

    There are a number of things that could be going on, so I will start with easy ones.
    -- Are you authenticated to the directory server? You can authenticate to the local machine and that has tripped me up before.
    -- If you have replicas in place for OD, you may want to make sure that everyone is seeing the correct server and that the directory information is syncing properly to the other servers.
    -- Are you having issues binding computers to the OD at all?
    -- lf you use the Web Service, can you authenticate with the users that you have?
    -- Do you use any port mapping and is 548 open for AFP sharing on your network?
    -- Are you sharing to the correct folders on your storage or has the storage been moved or modified?
    These are the steps that I have taken that have helped. My apologies if you have already gone there.
    Good Luck.
