Working directly off FTP server in CS6

I just migrated from CS3 to CS6 and will be a cloud subscriber as of tomorrow I guess with it's launch, assuming it does launch on time.
I'm going to preface and say that I admit that my workflow is not the most ideal and is more commando than it should be but it IS my workflow.
In the case of a new client, completely new site (just for example but I would be similar on a live existing site):
In CS3 I would set up a new site and choose FTP, pop in all the credentials and info. I would then connect. I will have already set up the CMS we use and I could mass upload any other files I needed using Filezilla. I would then use CS3 Dreamweaver to just work on the files directly off FTP. I know behind the scenes it was downloading the files to some kind of temp / cache folder but I didn't care, ultimately when I hit save, it would automatically put the file up on the server.
In CS6 it seems like I have to bring the files down off FTP to a local folder of my choosing, then make my changes, then save, but that's only a local save. So I have to manually click Put to put the file back up on the server. I'm not seeing in the settings something that says roughly "don't bother saving locally, just put them up on the server."
I work in a team of all of 2 people, we hardly ever bump into each other working on the same site so all the check in check out nonsense is not required for us. Is there any way I can set CS6 to behave more like CS3 in that regard? I really don't need to choose a local directly to bring files down once they are on the server. Our server has like umpteen layers of backups and redundancy, having the files locally does me no good at all and just eats up space. Even when working on existing sites, I'm not so worried about being commando and doing things on a live site. I just want my workflow back
Thanks!

As far as going commando it's been debated a long time.  So my suggestion there is to file a feature request: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
WIth the upload on saving, that feature is in the Site definition.  Go to the Remote definition that you setup and click on the Advanced tab.  You can set DW to automatically upload on save there.

  • FTP SERVER OR CS6?

How do I remove all remote server files on dreamweaver?
I did it manually on the FTP website that I host it off (Parallel Plesk) but when I try and remove them on dreamweaver just keep on getting error messages e.g. (file not located/ no permissions) so is this a dreamweaver prob or plesk?..
    (I suck at explaining)
If anything the remote file seems cached.
    HELP

It might be a LINUX permissions issue. The FTP user may not have such permission.
I don't use PLESK, but certainly you can see ownership and permissions in PLESK.

  • Can I stop Dreamweaver CS6 from constantly polling the FTP server?

When I work in CS6 I just work directly off the FTP server. I don't work in a large team, check in and check out is a wasted feature for us. So I have the Advanced server settings to automatically upload files when I save them. This has been working pretty well with the exception that Dreamweaver CS6 seems to constantly poll the FTP server anyway. So often times I'll go to save and it will throw out an error that it can't upload the file right now because it's currently interacting with the server.
Inside Dreamweaver I have the FTP log tab open and it's just constantly looking at stuff on the server at random intervals. It's not downloading anything or reconnecting. I'm having no connection problems at all actually outside of this.
I've poked through settings and I can't find anything that says something like "Stop constantly checking the FTP server, it's still there, don't worry about it..."
Here's the error for whatever it's worth. I wouldn't even bother complaining about this except that it happens to me constantly throughout the day. If it was just once or twice I wouldn't care. The other annoying thing is that when the error occurs it does save the file locally which is pointless for my purposes also but since it flags it as saved I have to make a change in order to get it to save and upload. So a lot of times I'm just waiting for it to stop interacting with the FTP server for no good reason, adding a space, backspacing the space and then hitting save again. Seriously obnoxious, please tell me there's a setting to shut this behavior off.

I'll tell you the real answer - because Adobe Dreamweaver's FTP integration is, and has always been, horrendous.   Here I am - working with Dreamweaver in 2013, having worked with Dreamweaver since the year 2000... yes - that is 13 years.  And 13 freaking years later I am still having the SAME Dreamweaver FTP issues since back then!!
Like today - let me tell you my workflow.
Open Dreamweaver - knowing that this is going to be yet again another painful day because of the FTP situation
Make a few changes to a single file
    Connect - it connects instantly
Upload my file.  I'm (relatively) happy.
Work on my file for the next 10 minutes.
Keyboard Shortcuts to save, then upload my file.
Window pops up - Waiting for server
    Still waiting for server
    Trys to reconnect.
    Waiting for server
I cancel.  Disconnect... then guess what...
Window pops up - Waiting for server.
    I close that window immediately
    Reconnect - its fine
    Upload my file immediately.
I have to do this EVERY FREAKING TIME I need to upload a file.   It is beyond rediculous that this wasn't solved in 2002, but no - ELEVEN years after that it still behaves the same!!!!
I know I'm not alone - just google "Dreamweaver FTP Waiting for server", or "dreamweaver ftp dropping", or anything else like that, and you'll find no end of people in pure frustration.
The only solution that I have found that may actually help ease the pain (doesn't solve the problem unfortuantely) this is something I just found today.
Go to Preferences > Site settings where you can change FTP connection option : Disconnect after x minutes idle
I have changed that to 1 minute.  Shouldn't have to, but that's all that can be done.
Please Adobe - start from the ground up with CS7 and completely rewrite FTP in Dreamweaver.

  • Receive file by FTP (Server is restricted to get command only)

    Dear all,
I would like to receive a file from a very special FTP server. And I am not sure if the File Adapter is able to handle this:
The FTP server I wand to connect to is a very special one. This server allows only to log in and to receive a specific file. This means that the only allowed command is
    get file.dat
It is not possible to change directory or to get the directory listing. When the file was received it is not necessary (and not possible) to delete the catched file. The FTP server notices that the file was received and removes its content. This means that the file will not be removed. So it is always possible to get the file. But in most cases the file is empty (but that should not be a problem - the File Adapter can handle or ignore empty files.).
From my point of view it seems that SAP XI 3.0 SPS17 does not support to interact with this special kind of FTP Server. In RWB I can see the following error message:
"An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server 'XXX.XXX.XX.X:21'. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 500 -3002 : command : invalid command'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor."
I connected to this FTP server manually. I get this error message when I try a command which is not allowd by the FTP server ("ls" for example). So I guess that SAP XI uses "ls" before catching the file.
Do you have an idea how I can configure the File Adpater to work with this FTP Server properly?
    Many thanks
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
This is a tricky one. The set of required ftp commands that need to be supported to be RFC compliant is quite small (see RFC 959) but it seems that the file adapter assumes a certain minimum set (including CWD and LIST, both of which are optional).
There are several options, varying in complexity immensely:
    1) Scripting the transfer process so that files are transferred to a local filesystem, from where they can be processed by XI
    2) Adjusting the "special ftp server" so that it ignores commands it doesn't understand - I'm guessing this isn't possible?
    3) Creating a "more relaxed" ftp JCA adapter, one that doesn't assume a certain minimum set of commands
    4) Something else I'm not thinking of so early in the morning
    Hope that helps a little...
    Regards, MJ

This is a problem you must work with your host to correct.

  • IPS 6.0 Supported FTP Server??

Hi,is it true that we can only use supported ftp servers that are documented in cisco for updating ips signatures or image?
    ###cisco ips 6.x document ####
The following FTP servers are supported for IPS software updates:
    • WU-FTPD 2.6.2 (Linux)
    • Solaris 2.8
    • Sambar 6.0 (Windows 2000)
    • Serv-U 5.0 (Windows 2000)
    • MS IIS 5.0 (Windows 2000)
can we use ordinary ftp servers other than ftp servers listed above?? thanks

When originally implemented the ftp auto update feature had several problems when using other ftp servers.
The implementation has changed over the past few years, and become more generalized.
So the listed FTP Servers are the ones "officially" tested and supported.
However, it should work with most other FTP servers as well.
I would recommend trying it with whatever FTP server you already have running. If it works then great; you are probably fine to keep using it.
If it doesn't work with your FTP server, then you can contact the TAC. If it turns out to be an incompatability between the sensor and your FTP server, then the issue would have to be entered as an enhancement request to get your FTP server supported rather than an actual bug.
We used to hear alot of incompatability problems with other FTP servers a few years ago.
But I haven't heard of any in the past 2 years.
If it is not working, then it is usually not a problem with the actual FTP server, but rather in how it was configured.
Here are a few examples of issues that are sometimes seen, and can be avoided with configuration of the FTP server.
Additional login messages can sometimes confuse the sensor (like warnings about who can access the box).
The FTP server has to be configured to use unix style directory listings instead of windows style.
Permissions on the files themselves can be a problem.
Renaming of the files after being pulled from cisco.com can cause problems, so keep the filenames exactly as seen on the cisco.com pages.
Keep directory names to letters and numbers to avoid parsing problems with the directory name.

  • How to set Lion built-in FTP Server auto run off

    Hello all.
I set FTP Server by using Rumpus Server application.
But Lion's built-in FTP Server is running on the front.
So if I try to connect my FTP Server out of my LAN, I can only connect to the built-in FTP Server despite I wanted to connect Rumpus FTP Server.
It can be solved by unload the built-in FTP Server(using sudo -s launchctl unload...) but every after rebooting I should set it because it is set to run automatically in every booting.
How can I set the auto run off?

well, the ftp server (=ftpd) takes account info from the user list for your mac. so, go to the system settings on your mac, then to users, and then just add another user with a password of your choice (tap on the little plus-sign to add a user!). this will then be a valid user for your ftp server after you restart your ftp server.
the other thing you want to do, about the home directory, is called chroot. you can set the home directory of a specific ftp-user to be another directory then the standard. for this, there are configuration directives in the configuration file in /private/etc/ftpd.conf which you have to edit by hand. so make sure what you do there.
you should read this before editing the file, this will give you a better understanding of what to put there: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/darwin/reference/manpages/ man8/tnftpd.8.html

  • Issue getting FTP server to work when firewall is turned ON.

I have FTP server setup on a file server for users in a remote office to quickly download large files over the VPN between the offices.  It works fine.
I have setup FTP on a different server in a 3rd remote office in order to download some large files.  It will not work unless I turn off the firewall for the Domain network settings.  In the firewall under "Allow a program or feature"
FTP Server is listed and is checked under Domain, Home, and Public.  I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.  Can someone help me figure this one out?   thanks

It is clear now that it is a firewall problem.
If this is a Windows Firewall then you can give a try to this: http://www.maxpcsecure.com/support/spywaredetector/allow_FTP_Port.htm
If this is not a Windows Firewall then you need to check with the vendor / developer support for assistance.

  • How do I get the RSS feeds to work in iWeb'08 when published to FTP server?

There are so many unresolved questions because I have published to an FTP server (Netfirms). HOWEVER, my next task at hand is to resolve the issue of a non-working RSS feed and download capabilities.
    The published website is www.vibrationalvoyages.com.
When using Cyberduck to upload to Netfirms, I have to call the file name vibrationalvoyages.com because Netfirms organizes my files under a main folder called www (I also purchased the .org and .net extensions along with the singular spelling of the title, have forwarded those url's to the .com extension, which means I have different website names under Netfirm's main folder www, all pointing to www.vibrationalvoyages.com).
I have to drop the www. in front of vibrationalvoyages.com when publishing to a folder on my computer so, when Cyberduck uploads the files into the main www folder, they are read correctly and published as www.vibrationalvoyages.com. In Cyberduck, the ftp address to upload is vibrationalvoyage.netfirms.com
Before uploading, I use iTweak to insert the Statcounter tracking codes. Then, I use Rage to optimize the site to cut down on the weight (lots of photos). Then, finally, I get to upload which takes about an hour and a half.
SO, HOW DO I GET THE RSS FEEDS TO WORK AS WELL AS THE OPTION TO DOWNLOAD AN MP3 RECORDED MEDITATIONS? I eventually also want to include the download option of podcasts.
Please help! I am doing the best I can to stay in love with Mac but he is turning out to be a pot load of work and the love affair is wearing a little thin.
I haven't even asked about why iWeb still calls some pages 'The family picnic" or why it switches the url addresses to the individual pages. Probably because in the early stages, I copied an entry rather than just do a new one... but I'll worry about that later. I want to get this 'fixed' first and then I'll address the issue, following Roddy's advice to another writer about installing a flash player, for easy download of the MP3 meditations and for when I record the lessons as podcasts. Until I get this RSS issue resolved, however, podcast downloads are out of the question!

    Thank you for checking, Tom,
I'm confused. What do YOU get when you push the feed button? And why is it working on yours and not either of my machines?
Today, my Mac (w/Safari 4) gets the same error message: Safari can’t open the page Safari can’t open the page “feed:http://vibrationalvoyages/vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_andApplications/rss.xml”. The error is: “The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format.”
My little ASUS (with a Linux operating system) gets a screen that says "The requested URL was not found". The URL on that page is http://vibrationalvoyages./vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_andApplications/rss.xml
On both error messages, the URL I was checking was:
    http://www.vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_and_Applications/Divine_Light_Vibrations_Principles_ andApplications.html
The last URL was, of course, the URL generated by iWeb.
    So, my question still is:
HOW CAN I GET MY FEEDS TO WORK PROPERLY? If the problem is there shouldn't be an http:// after feed: then, how do I get iWeb to set it up properly?
    Any ideas?

  • Ftp to a local ftp server doesn't work for VIREX 7.7

Has anyone else experienced this and know of a work-around? I have mac 10.3.9 machines not connected to the internet and running Virex 7.7. I have them setup to access signature files I download to a local ftp server on our subnet. This works fine.
We've installed a couple of Tiger (10.4.4) machines and this setup for Virex does not work. It acts like it can't see the ftp server. When I use Terminal I can ftp to the ftp server and transfer files that way. Why doesn't Virex 7.7 successfully download signature files from the ftp server?
    Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem. Our McAfee rep sent me a patch that apparently fixes the problem. Since McAfee issues DATs on Wednesdays, I ran the the e-update yesterday morning. It all seemed to run too quickly, but I checked the dates of the vscan files and they were correct. The files are:
    names.dat
    clean.dat
    scan.dat
They located in /usr/local/vscanx/ (hidden files - you can download "Wizzard" to show/hide files).

  • My i web version is 2.0.4. Can I publish my i web site directly to a FTP server address?

After Apple stopped hosting with Mobile Me, I moved hosting for my i web built web site to Network solutions. I was told by a Network solutions technician that I can publish an updated iweb site directly to a FTP server address. But I do not see that as an option with my 2.0.4 i web version. Can I update my
version of i web? Or do I need to purchase a later version of i web for this function?

You can open your iWeb 2 site in iWeb 3 and continue as before with the addition of FTP. However you should be able to upload with no problem in CyberDuck or Transmit - both are easy to use and reliable. Note that when you publish to a local folder you should usually upload the contents of the folder to the server, not the folder itself, unless you want the folder name (which must have no spaces in it) to appear in the URL.
Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service.

  • FTP server in java doesn't work well at win os in some status. Why?

As we know,FTP server in java used to use "BufferedOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream())" to complete data transfer.
socket.getOutputStream() returns SocketOutputStream, and SocketOutputStream use native method:socketWrite0 to transfer data.
I writted a FTP server in java that runs at win XP or win 2003 server. FTP client download file through internet, and when file size is large(for example, 5M),the download is failure. But I changed FTP server in C++,the download is ok. These PCs have multi network card commonly.
In the first instance,I thinked my programm may be written wrong. But I have used CrossFTP and DanoFTP at sourceforge.net, they failed too.
I have compared the source code of these FTP server and they are same in data transfer.
There are another strange phenomenon.FTP server at some PC works well. For example, when I install FTP server at another PC.So I think that it is not link problem, and may be relate with PC's configuration?
    Any help appreciate.

Win XP(sp2) and win 2003 server all have happened. Version of JDK is 6u2. I have doubted with version of JDK, and I changed to JDK 6u10 but problem is same.
By the way, FTP server in C++ work well on these problem machine.
I think the problem is related with configuration of machine(hardware or software), but I want to know where and why.
    Thanks for any help.
