Working network, but airport utility unable to find any network devices

Hi
Can anyone help. I have a stable network which has been working fine for ages. I have an airport extreme + express(airtunes)X2. I was having problems with my printer and ran airport utility 5.3.2 which failed to find any of my devices, but my airport card has no trouble connecting to the network and internet. I also note that itunes no longer sees my remote speakers. I have re-booted everything with no change. All software is up to date on OS 10.5.6.
Any ideas?????
Iain

Hi,
I have the same problem. I'm very confused right now...I have one Mac and one PC that have both been able to successfully get online with the AEBS I have. A couple of hours ago, though, the wi-fi connection went dead with the PC. The AEBS has been showing a solid green light all this time, though. The Mac is online--and thank goodness because I wouldn't have been able to look or ask for help, otherwise! And our other various wi-fi enabled devices (ie my mom's iPhone and my iPod touch) have been able to get online, too. It's just the PC that doesn't want to work, for some reason.
I tried turning off the firewall to see if that would help anything. It didn't. I also tried rebooting my PC and that didn't work. Then I unplugged the AEBS for a couple minutes to see if that would help anything, but it didn't. And then I went into Airport Utility on the PC, but the AEBS isn't showing up at all. Yet when I go into Network Connections and view available networks through Windows, it sees my network and I've got full bars in terms of reception.
I'm very confused here. I really don't know what to do. :S Anyone have any suggestions? I'd definitely love to hear them.

  • I'm trying to hide my wifi network, but airport utility won't find my router even though it's working

I got a Belkin N300 today, and had some trouble getting it set up but it's working fine with my Macbook and iPhone 4S, but I'm trying to hide my network to avoid hackers etc.  But I can't even access any of its set up as when I click on the utility icon it says it is 'unable to find any wireless devices'.  What do I do?

Most routers (besides Apple ones) are able to be setup by entering their local IP address in the address bar of your Internet Browser.
Try entering http://192.168.1.1 in your Internet Browser and see if that gets allows you to change your router settings.  I just looked up Belkin and they also sometimes default to http://192.168.2.1 so you might try that as well.

  • AirPort Utility unable to find any Apple Express devices.

Help! This is getting desperate. I bought an AEX for streaming music to my hifi. Installed it yesterday and it worked on both my desktop (running Vista) and my laptop (running XP). However I was experiencing sound dropouts on the Vista machine so, having researched on this forum, I tried to change a couple of settings in my wireless router (D Link DI524) to try and cure the problem.
My wireless network is still working fine but since making the changes the AirPort Utility software just keeps telling me that it is unable to find any Apple Express devices and I cannot make a connection. It is the same on both my desktop and my laptop.
I can't see why changing security settings in the router should prevent the Utility from connecting with the device as it has to do this during set up anyway to be incorporated into the network. I have tried a full re-set to factory settings but that didn't work. Any ideas? Otherwise this thing is going back to the store.

It's ok. It seems to have cured itself. And downloading Vista Anti Lag has cured the sound drop outs too.

  • AirPort utility unable to find any AirPort wireless devices

    Hi All,
I have an issue I have no idea how to resolve. I recently purchased a 2TB Time capsule and after a few teething issues have had it working as both router and external storage. I have spent the last 2 weeks transferring all my media to this for central access from all networked computers.
Its been running fine the whole time until today. For some reason my internet connection was dropped. I turned off the TC and my Modem, and then restarted in the right order.
WiFi connection is Excellent. I can connect to my mapped TC drive, but I cannot connect to either the internet (my network is now only allowing 'Local Connection') and the Airport utility is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I was hoping i'd be able to see an issue through the utility but it cant even recognise the device!
I am yet to do a hard re-set of the TC as I want to avoid having to go through the network set up again and I assume this is the information that is lost? I'm also concerned I will lose the content of the TC and i really dont have the time or the patience to go through that exercise again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Thanks for the quick response!
My Modem is not the issue in this case as I have already connected via network cable directly to it and am using it to connect to the internet now.
I had issues with IP conflict etc when setting up the network and suspect something similar this time, except I cant even open the TC to check the set up as AirPort utilities cant see it.
I think I have the TC doing the routing as all periphrals attached to the network were getting a 10.0.1.x  IP address, but I have to confess this is not my forte and neither is pinging things as I dont understand any of the information that comes back!
I assume the hard re-set option is a last resort? I'm tempted to just do it as I cant see I'll be any worse off than now... but I'll hold off and do the proper diagnosis.
Unfortunately I'm away for the next 2 days so wont get this resolved before then... I have the internet hard wired so that will keep the wife happy... but i will look into this further and report back with more details on my return.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Airport Utility unable to find any Airport wireless devices (specifically Time Capsule)

I have a (2007) MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.8, Airport Utility 5.5.3, and (2011) Time Capsule 7.6. The time capsule is not set up as a wireless station, it only connects to my exisiting wireless network to be used as a backup device with time machine. When I try to scan for wireless devices, the airport utility finds none even though the TC is on and the light is green. My other MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.8 is able to find the TC and run backups just fine - both are on the same wireless network with the same default wireless settings in network preferences. I've looked at about every similar thread in these support forums and tried numerous suggestions, none of which have resolved my issue. I have called Apple tech support, and the only suggestion they gave me was to set up a new network location with default settings - this worked when they gave me the suggestion, and I used it every time airport would lose connection to the TC; however, it no longer works for some reason. Here are some additional details:
This laptop has connected to the TC and made backups in the past. Every time I've established a connection, it has remained for a period of time (usually about a day), then would randomly drop and not be able to find the TC again. I was previously able to work around this by rebooting everything and setting up a new default network profile on my laptop, per Apple tech support suggestion.
Suddenly, the previously successful "reboot everything/create new network location" quick fix doesn't work anymore. I've checked all of my router settings, and nothing seems odd - all pretty standard settings. I don't advertise my SSID for security reasons, but the TC is set up to manually connect to the correct SSID, and it's clearly working fine on the other laptop.
My network preferences are also all standard. TCP/IP is using DHCP with an automatically assigned address. IPv6 is off. DNS servers are the same on all devices. I've tried renewing the DHCP lease many times, but that has no impact.
In airport utility, when I select File>Configure Other and enter the address/password for the TC, it connects to it just fine - I can see and configure all of the settings on the time capsule. Still, it will not find it when scanning for devices and will not make backups with time machine.
Incidentally, the same thing happens with my wireless printer and this laptop - will randomly lose connection and be unable to print even though the other laptop can print just fine. This leads me to believe it is a problem with the laptop and not the TC or router.
    Desperate to find a solution.
    Thanks

Connect to TC by ethernet from any computer. Reset to defaults. ie hold in reset and wait until led flashes rapidly.. about 10sec.
Then redo the setup. Use manual wireless settings.. set a different name to 5ghz.. so bands cannot swap at the client end. Set channels manually not auto.. pick the clearest ones for your area.. you can just trial and error it using channels 1, 6 and 11 or download a utility for the Mac to scan wireless usage.. !

  • Airport Utility unable to find "Apple Wireless Devices"

I have a windows7 acer notebook and the airport utility can no longer find my time capsule.
My internet connection is fine and I even have the time capsule mapped as my Z: drive and can access it but the airport utility cannot see it.
    Any thoughts?

The solution to this after you get the brain dead apple message is to go to the file menu in airport and select configure other. Then enter 10.0.1.1 and this will bypass apple's brain f-rt and simply open the configuration screen for the airport.
You can use the same method for airport express extending your network, although you will have to do some research under the advanced menu to get that IP address. My express is currently 10.0.1.39. Keep these in a textedit note on your computer for easy access. Every time I change my airport password on my base station both my airport expresses will go brain dead, and about half the time the base station disappears too. Now I just smile and use this solution.
I am certain that most apple geniuses are not aware of this solution, because this problem is all over the net with no solution. Its pretty obvious Steve Jobs never sets up his own airports.

  • "AirPort Utility unable to find any AirPort base stations"

I am getting it, along with a blanked out options panel even as I am using the two AirPort base stations and the Airport Extreme that are installed in my house. This confuses me.
I get it on my 12" Powerbook with 10.5.2 installed, but not on the one that's still running Panther. I do not get it on the iMac running Panther.
So does anybody have any idea why my "updated" PB can't see the network it's using? I have had Bonjour and Rendezvous issues in 10.5.2, too, so I am guessing these are all related somehow.
I have not installed the most recent AirPort Utility because I am afraid it will throw me offline altogether. (Should I?)
    All advice welcome.

I have the same problem. Two newer macbooks work just fine but an older powerbook that was running fine on the airport extreme now say no airport card installed. Any ideas for a fix?

  • Airport utility unable to find any airport devices

OK, trying to use airport extreme as range extender.
    Netgear DGND3300v2 as base station
Software updated on router and airport extreme. Why do I keep getting the above message? What am I doing wrong?!
    Thanks in advance.

If you are trying to use the AirPort Extreme using wireless only with the Netgear, these products are not compatible for that purpose. The AirPort can only work as an extender with another Apple product.
You should be able to configure the AirPort Extreme to provide more wireless coverage if you are connecting the Netgear and AirPort Extreme together using a permanent Ethernet connection.
As far as AirPort Utility not being able to "see" the AirPort Extreme....out of the box, the Extreme provides a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You have to log on to that network first...there is no security....before you open AirPort Utility.

  • Why is my Airport Utility unable to find any Airport wireless devices?

A few weeks ago, my Airport express just stopped working.  When I looked at it the light was neither green nor amber but pulsing a pale green/yellowish colour. It's pulsing rapidly and I've tried everything I could find online so far.  I've held the reset button down for 8,10,20 seconds and each time it goes from solid green to solid amber and then to the pulsing pale green/yellowish light.  It does this whether or not the ethernet cable is plugged into it and neither my iPhone or the MacBook sees the Airport Express.  Any idea what's wrong?

Unfortunately, an internal electronic component has likely failed inside the AirPort Express and it will need to be replaced.....unless you want to spend some time on a real longshot by carefully sawing open the case of the Express along the center seam to open up the device to see if something obvious like a connector has come loose.

  • HT3728 AIRPORT UTILITY IS UNABLE TO FIND ANY WIRELESS DEVICE 5.6.1

Ok So I have bought a 2TB Time Capsule, for the past few weeks we have been doing our backups on it etc and just using our already installed Netgear wireless router. Tonight I decided I would "extend an already existing wireless router" - after following all the steps etc and then clicking apply etc, the Airport Utility said that it would need to restart the time capsule etc. After about 5 mins and it looked like it had frozen, airport utility re-started and now all i get is:
"Airport Utility is Unable to find any wireless device. Make Sure the Airport Wireless Device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan"
I have clicked Rescan like 10 times
I have quit and restarted Airport Utility as well as my Mac OSX 10.5.8
I have pulled the Time Capsule plug out of it and restarted it
I have turned of my airport on my computer and turned it back on again
I have read a number of posts - yet nothing seems to give me any more options other than to rescan.

If you are trying to connect the Time Capsule to the Netgear router using a wireless only connection, Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature was designed to only work with other Apple routers. It is extremely unlikely that this setting would work with a Netgear product.
You will need to start over again and perform a Factor Default Reset on the Time Capsule and then re-configure it back to the original settings that you set up previously.

I turned off the power to my apple tv whilst updating and now it will not work, i have tried to restore using usb but it says unable to find. any help please?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Are you following these instructions.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

  • Network works fine but Airport Utility can't see the Airport

If someone knows of an earlier discussion on this I'd be grateful for a pointer. My Airport Extreme network has been working fine, syncing with Apple TV, accessing the Internet, etc, but The AirPort Utility can't find it! I discovered this when I had trouble printing and started up the Utility to see if there was something I could do to fix it. The utility can't find it but the network is working fine. However I do need to connect a printer to it.
Any advise on what I can do?

    iFelix wrote:
I know this may sound obvious and silly, but are you actually connected to your Airport wireless network and not a neighbouring network?
I thought of that myself and there are at least four networks around my house (three unprotected!) but no, I am connected to the AirPort network!
I'll try one other thing before I do a hard reset though. A week or two back I'd tried to connect an Airport Express manually by creating a WDS. Never got that to work and that may be a problem. I notice that if I do a soft reset the AirPort Extreme become visible in the Utility for a few minutes. I'll go th manual setup and see if I can't delete that WDS...

  • Wireless working, but Airport Utility can't find base station

I am having issues with Apple TV and iTunes that led to me investigating my new Airport Extreme base station (AEBS) as possible cause.
Oddly, I'm right next to the AEBS now and the wireless is working sweetly as I type. However, when I use the Airport Utility to access the base station, it can't find it - I can 'rescan' for all the hours but with no luck.
Any ideas what's going on here?

I've just encountered this problem for the first time. On my brand new MacBook Air (Leopard factory installed), I opened Airport Utility, entered Manual Setup, and restarted my Airport Extreme from the Base Station menu. It restarted, but once it was back up the Airport Utility could no longer find it, even though I was connected to the internet (and the Network preferences pane showed connection and a green light).
I have a MacBook (vintage 2007) that's still on Tiger -- I've never had any problem using Airport Utility from there, so I imagine I can still configure the base station from there. But I hope this issue is on Apple's radar so there'll be a Airport Utility update that fixes it.

  • Airport utility can't find Apple wireless devices including Time Machine

I have a comcast high speed internet modem that is working, connected by Ethernet to a Time Machine. The Time Machine was working fine until this morning when I tried to reconnect to the internet wirelessly on my PowerBook G4. The Time Machine network wanted a WPA password but wouldn't accept the current password. I then tried to set up Time Capsule in the Time Machine dialog box, but it invoked the airport utility which says it can't find any Apple wireless devices. My Time Machine is now blinking amber at me, and I have tried unplugging, resetting, etc. I am on the internet via hardwire Ethernet connect through the Time Machine to the modem, but cannot get Time Machine to show green and cannot see any wireless devices in airport utility. Any suggestions, please?

set the TC to N+B/G do that using airport Utility. once done power off modem and the router. power on modem first then the router.

  • Airport utility does not find any airport and time capsule hardware

Hi, I have 4 airport expresses (2 for music and one for extending network) and a time capsule that also acts as my wifi router. The expresses have always appeared and disappeared from the express utility, while the TC is always listed. Now airport utility cannot find find any of them, and after many rescans, and a few "successful" hard reboots (in the sense that they were configured, but then disappeared again), still does not see them. The strange thing is that the TC has to be working because this computer is hooked up to the internet via the wifi router, and it is working fine. Any ideas? The expresses are not that big of a deal, as I can always plug an ipod to play music, but they used to work. I am on 5.4.2 on the utility, having rolled it back a few months ago when some of these problems begain. thanks

    Welcome to the discussions!
It sounds like you are trying to scan for and configure your Apple devices using wireless. If you haven't tried this yet, I think you will have much better luck if you connect an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the device that you are trying to "see".
If this does not work at first, it may help to power down both your computer and the device, then connect the ethernet cable and power the computer and device back up.
