Working Offline

I was told I needed a "Range Extender" for my son to play his X-Box live with our Verizon router. Needless to say I called Linksys who told me that the "Range Expander" that I was trying to set up was not compatible with Veriszon's router.
Anyway, before calling Linksys I tried to setup up the "Range Expander" on my laptop computer. Now I can not get on the internet. I keep getting an error that I am working offline. I have tried unchecking the "work offline" in the file menu and still cannot get onn the internet. I have a strong signal. Something happened when I was trying to set up the range expander. Please tell me how to correct this problem caused by trying to set up the Range Expander.
It is the Range Expander Wireless-G Model No. WRE54G that I was trying to set up.

Need to ask a few Qs. First, did you try assigning a static IP to your PC when you tried to set up the extender? If you did, did you set the PC back to get the IP address automatically? Second, look for your PC's IP address (Start>run> cmd>type ipconfig/all). Can you see it listed there?
Also, what was the model of the Verizon router you were setting up, Westell?

  • Is there a way to prevent Firefox from checking "work offline"?

    If I open Firefox before I am connected to the internet or if I try to do something when I have been dropped from the internet "work offline" is automatically checked. It is easy to fix but annoying. Is there a way to turn off this function?

    Create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
    Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: network.manage-offline-status<br />
    Value: false

  • When I click on Firefox, the page comes up as "work offline" and I have to uncheck this option under "File" before I can get on line. How can I disable this automatic start option "work offline"?

    Firefox starts up "Work offline" and I am notified "Having trouble loading page." I am then advised to "uncheck" the "work offline" option and "retry" getting connected to the internet. I would like Firefox 4 to automatically come up as a Browser on line, just as 3.6 did. How can I achieve this goal? Is there a way to disable the automatic "offline" start-up?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Can I stop Firefox from always opening in Work Offline mode because it's preventing my Macbook from accessing Internet on our wireless home network?

    Sorry, I should have said iMac, not Macbook, if it makes a difference. The problem is Firefox 3.6.10 always starts in Work Offline mode, and Internet won't activate unless we restart, sometimes up to five times.
    The iMac is on our home wireless network which we had no problems with before using Safari on the Macbook we upgraded from.
    Note: I'm posting this query from another computer.

    Did you check the network setting?
    Sounds that you have set to connect automatically when a connection is not available.

  • Working offline with data from Access 2010 web database

    Hello all,
    I have an Access 2010 web database that I have published to a SharePoint site. Users currently work with the data via one of several Access 2010 front end applications that simply have linked tables and client queires, forms and reports. On a couple
    of occasions, we have had issues with our SharePoint site that have left users unable to access the data. A couple of times it was due to our site collection suddenly and inexplicably becoming read only and the last time (while I was on vacation, of course)
    due to some license changes my folks were unable to access the site.
    I'm getting ready to go on vacation again. What i would like to do is have a sort of emergency back up plan should things go awry again while I'm gone.
    What I envision is a back up database that has actual data tables, rather than simply linked lists, that I can sync with my SharePoint lists on a regular basis. That way, should the SharePoint lists become inaccessible, users could continue to work with
    the data offline and any changes can be synced once a connection is restored.
    I have read through
    this article, but in each scenario I was unable to actually open tables to work with the data once offline. Is this a situation where I should simply have folks work offline with a local copy containing all of the data and then republish? Or, is there
    a way to simply sync? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm really hoping to leave my laptop at home on this next trip.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • I downloaded Firefox 4, and now it doesn't work at all. Tells me I have it set to 'work offline'. NOT How do I get back to the last Firefox 3?.

    I don't have any idea where to change 'work offline'. Have never set it for that. just get me back to the previous version of Firefox.
    It started as soon as I downloaded vers 4, and restarted computer. No Firefox.

    I'm sorry I forgot to mention using facetime.

  • Calendar clients  4.03 cannot work offline since we have upgraded to Calendar Server 4.0

    Macintosh Calendar 4.03 cannot work offline since I have upgraded to Calendar Server
    version 4.0. When users attempt to either go offline or login offline,
    they receive module errors:
    <P>
    Module:>CApplicationCorporateTime.cp>,
    Label:20, Service error#(0x1320a)
    <P>
    It looks like versions 4.03 and lower clients (primarily on the Macintosh) are unable to
    properly handle data from the 4.0 Server as it was able to in the 3.5 server.
    <P>
    There have been changes made with the new 4.0 server version as to how a
    password is sent over the network to the client. In order for a customer to
    use an old client version (pre 4.5) with the offline agenda, the following
    parameter needs to be set in the server's /users/unison/misc/unison.ini file:
    <P>
    [ENG]
    pwdreturnonitemget = TRUE
    <P>
    Once all users have been upgraded to client version 4.5x or higher, it is
    highly recommended to remove this parameter or to set it to the
    default value FALSE.
    This parameter becomes active as new client sessions are established. It is
    not necessary to stop and start the server.
    <P>
    The best solution for this issue is to only use Calendar client versions 4.5
    or higher.

  • When I open Firefox I get a message that says I am working offline. I have tried reinstalling, but no help. Other acounts on this computer can get to Firefox, but not me. What's wrong?

    I upgraded to the newest version of Firefox yesterday. But now I cannot get online with Firefox. I can check my e-mail and browse the web on Internet Explorer, but not Firefox. I get a message that says Firefox is working offline. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but that did not help. I restored my computer to Sunday's settings, but that did not help.

    I have tried everything I could to fix this, but some things require actually being on Firefox, and since I cannot get on, I cannot click on the tabs to do it. I have even totally uninstalled firefox, and that has not fixed this. I still get the same message that firefox is running and I need to close it or restart (which I have also tried dozens of times). I have removed things like Java, and that has not helped either. If I cannot even get on line in firefox, how can I fix this. I am not crazy about using internet explorer, but right now, it is my only option. I even tried to start in safe mode, and the same message box pops up!

    Did you try File > Work Offline?
    Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
    Create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
    Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: network.manage-offline-status
    Value: false
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • "Work offline" button went away from taskbar and cannot recovered after performing CSC cache clear

    Hi All,
    Some Windows 7 Pro users reported DFS folder mapping issue, CSC cache was cleared by following below KB article.

    After CSC cache clear, I am not able to see "Work offline" button from file explorer taskbar.
    I was recommended to look for "always available offline" by right mouse click, but the item is not available for my platform.

  • Firefox 4 does not start up to my selected home page, and 'work offline' is always checked. I have gone into general tab, start up and ensured that my home page is selected. It is, but problem hasn't changed. I can't do a complicated fix.

    Since upgrading Firefox 4, at start up I receive a 'problem loading page' message, which states I have 'Working Offline' checked. (I didn't check it) I go to menu and uncheck it, there are 3 tabs loaded, all the Monzilla welcome pages (congrats you have upgraded etc etc), and NOT my home page. If I hit home icon it takes me to my home page, but this is a pain in the neck. I am not tech savvy so please do NOT suggest a complicated fix. I would prefer to go back to 3.6 if possible, unless there is a simple solution to this problem

    I fixed it!!! Following advice from similar posts, I searched the hard drive for "sessionrestore.js" in my Firefox Profiles folder (you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View (then select Hidden files option) then Apply to all folders) to do this). I then shut down Firefox, deleted the file and restarted - my home page was correct and it didn't try to open my old session! Some other posts suggested deleting everything called "sessionrestore" in that folder, but I didn't need to.

  • How do you get the browser to work offline. It stays connected even if you click on Work Offline option and there is a check mark beside it.

    I play an online game which requires me to open and set up several tabs, click on them offline, and then reload all tabs. With this new update, the work offline button does not work. I click on it 'Work Offline', a checkmark appears before the option. But when I click on the confirm button on the tab, it does not show the usual message that I am offline and I should try again after going online.
    I also do a lot of offline reading, which was possible with the previous Firefox versions. I'd load them while I was online, then I could read them when I was offline. Now I can't do this.
    I am not happy with this new version of FF. Is there a way to revert to the old Firefox?

    Does the Live Http Headers extension confirm that there is network traffic?
    *https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/live-http-headers/
    I notice that you are likely infected by Conduit software (malware) looking a the browser.newtab.url pref in the System Details list.
    Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
    The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
    You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
    The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
    You can also check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs to see if anything from Conduit.
    *Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program
    *Click the Installed column to sort by this heading
