Working on a document

i am using Pages on iPad1.. how do i save a document so i can bring it up, work on it, save it, etc..

Although pvonk pretty much nailed it.... This is a detailed, total "step by step" description of how to import Pages documents from your Mac to your iPad.
To transfer a Pages document from the Mac to the iPad, do the following ...
Connect your iPad to your Mac and launch iTunes.
Launch Pages on your iPad.
Click on your iPad name under "Devices" on the left side of iTunes on your Mac.
Click on the  Apps Tab at the top of iTunes in the window on the right.
Scroll down the window and click on Pages in the File Sharing box.
Click on Add in the lower right corner of the Pages document box next to the list of file sharing apps.
When the finder window opens, navigate to the place on your Mac where the file can be found.
Select the file by and clicking on Choose. (you can also drag and drop the document into the Pages documents window as described by pvonk)
Tap the down arrow icon in Pages on your iPad and select Copy from iTunes,
The file name will appear in a window.
Tap on that file and it will transfer to the iPad.
Click on My Documents in the upper left corner of Pages on your iPad and the document will close and you are done.
All documents on the iPad are automatically saved in the app in which they are created. There is no folder structure on the iPad like on your Mac. When you open Pages on the iPad, all of your documents will be visible as you swipe through the window.

    It's best to place any text.
    You can have all of your text in one file and use auto-flow to add threaded text frames and pages as required (Hold down the Shift key when you click the loaded text cursor), but it's a little non-standard to have the thread only on one side of the spread from the auto-flow perspective, so you'll have to set up properly.
    This is one case where a master text frame will work to your advantage. On your master page spread, add a text frame to the left page, but not to the right (or at least not threaded to one on the right -- for some other project you might actually want two independent text threads). Hold the loaded cursor over a frame on the left side of a document page and auto-flow. ID will add new spreads as necessary, but only put the text on the left side.

  • I have been working on a document in Pages 4.3 and now it tells me I can not open the document unless I upgrade to Pages 5.2. When I look up Pages 5.2 the App store says "installed" nor can I find a "purchase" or "install" button.

    If you have already updated to Pages 5.2 on your Mac, you may be trying to open the file with a previous version of Pages. If this is the case, you have two versions of Pages on your Mac & are trying to open Pages 5 documents with Pages 4. Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
    Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications.

    You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

    You must add your own background object, and then make it Black.
    Insert > Shape > Rectangle
    In the Wrap Inspector, set to Floating.
    In the Graphic Inspector, set Stroke to None and set Fill to Black.
    Grab the corners of the document and stretch the document to cover the entire page.
    Back in the Wrap Inspector select "In Background".
    Format > Advanced > Move Object to Section Master.

  • Bookmarks not working in multi-document PDF application

    Why are bookmarks not working in multi-document PDF application when uploaded to the web? We created a multi-document PDF application. All bookmarks and links work on our systems. All work on the customer's system. They do not work when uploaded to the customers website. Their IT department says its an issue of relative vs. absolute addressing. We've created applications like this for years without running into this issue. Can't find anything about it in Acrobat Help. Can anyone help or lead me to help? Thx much, Sandy

    Have you tried opening the file in your browser to see if the bookmarks are working?  To open the file in your browser you need to do this:
    1) Launch your favorite browser;
    2) File >> Open >> Select your pdf file

  • Substitution now working for reversal documents

    Hi,
    I understand that substitution does not work for reversal documents; all attributes in the reversal document are picked up from the original document.
    However is there any way to change this? I want the reversal document to pick up something else. Please note that the attributes fields are all Z fields.

  • "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" option not working with all documents

    Said option (found under Edit/Preferences, category Documents), which works like an automatic bookmark in that it takes you back to the same place you were at when you last closed a document, is very useful, but apparently doesn't work with *all* documents.
    - Does anyone know what determines whether a given document works with this option or not?
    - Is this by design or a bug? A matter of PDF format version?
    - Is there a way to work around the problem?
    I've compared two documents, only one of which works with the option, to determine what the relevant difference may be, and found two suspects (under File/Properties): the PDF version (1.5 in the document that works, 1.4 in the one that doesn't), and 'Fast Web View' ('yes' in the document that works, 'no' in the one that doesn't).

    This seems to be a problem with some PDF files.
    Suggested workaround: If the PDF you have allows "Save As", then try save-as to a new file. The "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" option should then work as expected (in the new file).

    Sometimes it helps told press the Shift key when one tries to open Pages. It will also stop opening a lot of documents that isn't closed before quitting Pages.

    According to your post, my understanding is that you got an error when click on ellipsis then "Edit Properties" in a Document library.
    I tried to reproduce the issue, every documents in my environment worked well.
    As you has said that It is working for other document libraries, you can create a new document library with the same "parameters" and then transfer 
    the documents into it, then check whether it works, maybe the current library has been corrupted.
    You can also check the ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
    For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS

    Debbie ~ Perhaps the reason you haven't received a reply to your question after several days is that you haven't said which application you're using for your document. ...TextEdit? ...Pages from iWork?

  • Recently upgraded to Mavericks... was working with Pages documents from previous OS ... Pages is now frozen and I don't dare force quit and loose my old documents.

    Recently upgraded to Mavericks... was working with Pages documents created with previous OS ... Pages is now frozen and I don't dare force quit and loose my old documents.  How can I "thaw".... unfreeze Pages?  Have several pages windows open that I was working on. 

    I also had this problem after I installed Mavericks: Pages files freezing at close, need to force quit.
    Workaround: when saving any document created with an earlier version of Pages, be sure to untick the "include preview in document".
    For some reason, this resolves the problem.
    BTW "loose" is not a verb. You probably mean "lose".

    You downloaded a beta copy of 7.1 because the current version is 7.0.5. There was a mixup yesterday and 7.1 was accidentally made available for downloading. Do you have a backup you can restore from to get 7.0.5?
    You can also try running the combo update to see if it will restore it.
