Working on same iBook on two Macs

hi all,
I am working on the same iBook on my iMac and also, my Air 11. Is there any way to keep my work in sync on both computers? TIA.

I use Dropbox - keeps the file in the virtual cloud but locally downloaded and updated on each machine you login to your account with.
Therefore you work with the file on your hard drive but dropbox uploads it to the cloud in the background.
When you access a different machine it downloads the updated file in the background so you always work on the latest incarnation.

How can I have the same environment on two macs on is a macbook pro and the other a Mac mini ?

Forget trying to use iCloud for this - it won't do what you want.  iCloud syncs certain data like contacts and events, but it doesn't sync "environments" on computers.

  • Working one iWeb site from two Macs

I have two Macs, and use my desktop for working at home, and my laptop for working away, or when on holiday for working with photographs and, hopefully, blogs. I set up my iWeb site initially using the desktop, and then tried to edit the site using my laptop, only to find that it cannot, seemingly, be done.
Help! Does anyone know how to edit one iWeb site from two machines, or is there, perhaps, a practicable workaround?

The answer is Domain.sites (extension hidden by default). You'll find this on your desktop machine at Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Copy that file to removable media and drag it to the same location on your laptop. Launch iWeb and you'll see your desktop site structure in the Site Organizer.
Once you keep the Domain package in sync between the two machines everything will work smoothly no matter which you use. There's a neat tip here which may help in this respect:

  • Working on 2 locations with two Macs

    Hi There,
I am working on a MacBook Pro at home and working on iMac at school. How to resume working on the same files on the two Macs while I am here or there? I have an external hard desk, would be a right carrier 'postman'?
I would be thankful if you could help me out!
    Kindest regards,

Click here and follow the instructions; it doesn't matter whether or not you're publishing to .Mac.

  • How do I have the same "events" on two Macs?

I have the "family pack" and just installed on both Macs. I have the same exact pictures on both Macs. I organized all the events on one Mac and now I would like to have the same events on the second Mac.
On the previous version of iPhoto, I simply would copy com.apple.iPhoto.plist from the first Mac and copy it to the next Mac. Then all my preferences (e.g., file names, roll names, etc.) would match. This method does not seem to work on iPhoto 08.
    Any suggestions?

    John:
You could use iPhoto Library Manager and copy the events from one library to another like this. The demo shows an event being copies but it works the same for albums.
You'll need to connect the Macs so you have access to the libraries and then IPLM will do the job.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sharing the same data on two macs

Hello, I have two Macs and would like to keep the same data on each laptop. I don't think iSync is the tool for the job. Can anybody out there advise of an easy affordable method of ensuring both my machines are sharing the same data; itunes, photo's, files, etc.
    Many thanks.

Get FoldersSynchronizer You can set up a selection of folders and sync them between two Macs.

  • Is it possible to share the same iCal on two MAC users?

Please help me. Is it possible for me to share the same iCal on two different MAC users? I know that you can sync it to an ipod or iphone, but can you share it on the same MAC with another user?
If anyone knows, please tell me! Thank you!

I think the easiest way to share calendars between the two users on the same Mac is by using Google Calendars/Calaboration.
After following the instructions in the link, export your iCal calendar and import it into the new Google Calendar. All events will appear in the new Google calendar which you can see in iCal or gmail. Set this up with the same google account information used when configuring the first user account and both users will be able to write and/or remove events in the calendar using iCal.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using the same photos on two Macs with iPhoto'09

    Hi there,
I took a few hundred of photos during my vacation and imported them into iPhoto on my MacBook Pro (10.6.1). Now I would like to have these pictures on my MacPro, too - but all the photoinfos, places etc. should be preserved. How can I do that? Does the "export"-command work? I took the photos in RAW and would like to export them in RAW.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Stefan

The only way to do this is to link the two Macs together and use iPhoto Library Manager to move the files plus the associated metadata and versions between Libraries.
If you want to export the Raw files then you will not get the Metadata You have added in iPhoto. To get to the Raw you'll need to export the Kind as Original, and this is not part of the Original file.

  • Working with same files in two accounts

    Hi,
I thought I ran into a workaround for the "Read Only" irritation if a person has two accounts, that would bypass the necessity to go through "Get Info" and unlocking every file you want to have access to on both accounts. I think it involved going through Terminal and mentioned that emulating Unix made the computer assume the other account is merely part of "everyone" who shouldn't have access without specific permission. Anyway, is there a way to allow Read & Write for all my files for both accounts?
Is the Public file web-based and hence external? I don't think I want to do that.
    Thanks!

The best way to share files between user accounts on the same Mac is to put them in a special ACL folder. That way, any new files added to the folder or any of its subfolders will automatically become read and write for both users. Here is how to set it up:
    1) Make a new folder in /Users/Shared called "sharefolder". Locate all the files that you want to share and move them into there.
    2) In System Preferences -> Accounts, click the + button to make a new account, but then select "group" from the drop-down menu. Call the group "sharing" or something similar. Add the users you want to the group.
    3) Open Terminal and paste in all of this at the same time:
    chmod -R +a "sharing allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
    /Users/Shared/sharefolder
That's it. Everything in that folder is now fully readable and writeable by both users, and any files newly created or copied to that folder or any of its subfolders will be as well.
NOTE: After setting this up, if you have existing files that you want to move in to that folder, make sure that you copy them in (hold down the option key when dragging with Finder). Simply moving them in without copying won't cause the full read permissions to be inherited properly.

  • Same project on two Macs - Peak-show

    Hi,
I want to work with a project on my MacBook pro (4,1, early 2008. 2x2,5), that project was started on a macpro (4,1; 2x4x2,66).
After solving problems concerning the re-Connection, which is really something, Adobe has to work on! Take a Look at fcp, it seeks and finds, pp does not and pp hates folder-structures other than: one folder for all files (Clips that is).
Ok. But what really gets annoying is the Peak-file-creating. Is here any way to stop pp from doing this? I have over 5000 clips!
Why does pp do this anways? And: Why does it need Peak-files an the MacBook and Not On the macpro?
    I appriciate your answers!

    Peak files are created:
    a. the first time a clip is imported into a project, and
    b. when the media cache is cleaned.
It is needed for an accurate display of the waveform in the audio tracks in the time line. There is no way to by-pass it.
I understand it takes a long time, but that is mainly caused by the lacking hardware of a MBP, especially on an underpowered one. Reading the audio, creating the peak file and writing it to the same disk and repeating that for all clips will take time, because there are not enough disks in a MBP to distribute the load.
The creation of peak files has been done on the MAC Pro, so it needs not be done again, but the first time on the MBP it needs to be done.
Reconnecting issues only occur if the absolute paths to the clips are not identical on both machines. If they are identical, there is no problem with reconnecting.

  • Same membership on two Macs?

I have been a member of Creative Cloud for six months. In my office I use an Imac (stationary), but now I have bought a new MacBook to use at home. Can I download and install applications on both Macs with the same membership?

    Hi Rune,
in addition to M's "yes" please see >>> http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html  >>> How many computers can I install on ...
I quote: You may install software on up to two computers. These two computers can be Windows, Mac OS, or one each.
If you install on a third computer, it will request you to de-activate on the other two computers. You can then reactivate one of the previous two computers, and use Creative Cloud apps on it.

  • Working on same iWeb with 2 Macs

I love the functionality i get with .Mac sync and using multiple macs. But I haven't found this with iWeb. When I'm working on some pages at my work computer then when I go home at night and get on the girlfriends iBook, I can't access any iWeb stuff I've created or published. I'm stuck with a blank page. Is it possible to work like this?
    thanks

You just need to transfer the iWeb Domain/data files between the machines. Some info

  • How can I use the same domain.sites2 on two macs?

I know iWeb is no longer supported but I still find it ok to manage my web site.
I would like to work on the site from two macs. I thought I could just use the same Domain.sites2 on both macs but: if I move Domain.sites2 to dropbox folder, when I launch iWeb it does not know about it and creates a new empty Domain.sites2 in the Library/iWeb folder
I do not want to have to manually make a copy of Domain.sites2 to Dropbox and then to the other mac's Library every time I switch computer.

You may want to use :
    http://wyodor.byethost8.com/iwebsites/iWebSites.html
Select "Choose new folder" from the File menu to select the folder on Dropbox where your domain file is.
If that does not work, use:
    http://wyodor.byethost8.com/iwebsites/iWebDrop.zip
(Unzip the file and drop the domain file on top of it)
After that, you can open iWeb with your currently used domain file.
