WORKING OUT W/ NANO??

I have a 15 gig IPod I use on a regular basis. Before I purchase the Nano I would like to know personal experiences of anyone who uses the Nano while working out. My concern is the Arm Band. I am not Arnold by any means. However, I understand for males w/ any bicep size the arm band won't work. Are there any third party arm bands available now? Thanks

James,
another armband to think of is the one that comes with Otterbox's enclosures. They sell an arm band accessory to attach to their enclosures. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that the existing arm band (for iPod & mini enclosures) will work for the nano enclosure.
caveat: the Otterbox nano enclosure is supposed to be available in December, which might be a long time to wait.
Otterbox makes waterproof (to 3 feet) enclosures that allow full access to all iPod buttons, except the hold switch. They are a little bulky but rugged. Great advantage is you can jog in the rain, or in sea spray and not worry about your iPod corroding of shorting out. Will certainly protect from a drenching of sweat if you really flow during a workout

  • What causes my Nano to loose my work out info when I push pause on earphones?

What causes my Nano to loose my work out info when I push pause on earphones? Although I am shoowing previous workout history, using Nike+.

It just happened to my 4GB nano too and I reset it (Menu + Select) a couple of times (okay, about five times or so) with no luck. I hooked it up to a Mac to see if that would do the trick and still the same problem.
Until today, my nano's been running great (it doesn't even scratch easily [I own a black one]) and I have the latest firmware on it too. I'm thinking it must have something to do with my having recently: 1) changed the name of my nano (through iTunes 6.0.1) 2) it's almost filled to capacity (40MB free) with data from iCal, Address Book and iPhoto, 3) I just upgraded to iTunes 6.0.1. [...]
I'll try to connect and sync it to my Mac again tomorrow and if that doesn't do the trick it looks like I'll have to do a restore on my nano.
Oh, and I also tried taking "Music" off of my main menu and putting it back on with no luck. Since this problem is only with the "Music" menu for my nano, if I'm on the road I can always put "Artists" or "Playlists" in my main menu as a temporary fix to get to my music collection.

  • Missing recent work-out data in nano  / no records on nike+

Nano records work-out correctly and syncs it to Nike+ website but on Nano it only shows total work-out data. No other history, ie recent work-outs, last ork-out or personal best is showing.
the second problem I have is that even though I ran more than 5K it doesn't show it under achievements on the nike+ website.
    Any ideas?
THANKS! (and sorry in case it has been answered in a different thread)

  • Newest iPod nano or newest iPod shuffle for working out?

I plan on getting a new iPod for working to keep from using my iPhone all of the time and draining the battery. Which would be better for working out taking into consideration that sweat would be an issue? Also will the clips work really well during a lot of movement?

The clip works well and I've been able to use mine in places where moisture does not get to it (also get a plastic insert for the dock connector or keep it pointed down). You can also get waterproof cases.
That said, if I am really concentrating on my workout I prefer the Shuffle as it is cheaper and I'm not distracted by a screen.

  • I iPod touch too big to use while working out?

I have an iPhone 6 plus, Is it ok if i buy iPod touch to use while working out? or will it be too big? or should i buy shuffle? Nano isn't an option because i don't use nike  or radio. I'm confused. help?

Thats what I thought, but my mind doesn't go away from touch as it has wifi usability! I can use that at gym! And also if i feel to use the apps while i put aside my 6+ for some time as it is large, I thought of iPod touch again! OMG I'm still confused.crazy apple!

  • Nike + does not end work out at designated distance or time

I've stopped using the verbal notification of milestones on my Nano (4G) because it would reset the entire iPod Nano mid-workout. Now that I've been able to get through an entire work out, I've noticed that I'll reach the pre-designated distance, say 5k, and the workout would not end unless I tell it to end manually. This requires me to constantly check my iPod, which is part of the reason I use the Nike +. Why does it not end the work out? Is there a cool down period and just not realizing it?

Duh, I just realized that with DSL I won't have wifi for my phone.  I have seen some people mention specific ATT routers.   Can someone help me?  Ugh!

how do you make it not so sensitivity. when turned off set down it comes back on or when working out shirt brushes ipod and it changes music

You didn't say which model of iPod Nano that you have, but generally there should be a lock setting, that can be turned on or off, to prevent accidental changes in settings. And, there is also a setting to turn on or off a feature called, "Shake to Shuffle." It allows you to change songs by just shaking the iPod.

  • Best headphones for working out? Shure E2C or Bose In ear TriPort?

I want some good headphones for my Nano (2nd gen) while I'm working out (jogging).
My wife gave me the Bose In Ear TriPort for Xmas, and while the sound is very good, the right tends to "loosen up" easily. I can return within 30 days, hence I need opinions on other headphones for working out.
I have read positive reports on the Shure E2C and the Sennheiser MX 70.
Does anybody have any experience using these headphones during workouts? I am looking for great sound but more importantly, a set of in ear phones that stay secure while working out. I do not want heavy bass either.
    All opinions are appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the E2c and they are great. The only caveat I have are the sleeves. It comes with 3 types, flex, soft flex, and foam. They all come in 3 sizes also. The best fit that works for me are the foam. They stay in your ear and provide excellent isolation.
Here is the site to read about them.

How come I can't see "Nike+" option in itunes when I plug in my iphone? I have it turned on in my iphone5 and have work out data in it.

    Hello Kanji0513,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
I found this bit of info about the way Nike+ works on the iPhone and iPod Touches versus the way it works with other model iPods.
Your iPod touch or iPhone 3GS or later wirelessly sends workout data to nikeplus.com from wherever you are on the road. So right after your run, you can track your progress and analyze your performance. If you walk or run with iPod nano, workout data is sent to nikeplus.com when you connect it to your Mac or PC.
    From: http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/sync.html
The option in iTunes only appears if you are not using an iPod Touch or iPhone.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Working out with your ipod G5

Does any of you buy armband for your ipods? Is ipod video too bulky to use on an armband when working out at the gym?

Whenever I exercise, I bring my iPod with me.
My iPod has been working for 6 months without problems.
    Some things to note:
    1) Don't use shuffle mode. The iPod has about a 25 minute "short term memory" cache. When shuffle is enabled, the hard drive can't use that cache. If the cache isn't being used, the hard drive is always being accessed and is moving. Definitely not good if you're jogging.
    2) If you're not comfortable carrying it, pick up an armband. Make sure your iPod fits snugly--and if it doesn't, add some padding to the armband or exchange that armband for a different one.
    3) If your iPod begins behaving strangely while you're jogging, stop using it for a while when exercising. If it behaves normally when not moving, you may need to get a different armband or invest in a nano or shuffle for exercising instead.
    4) If you'll be doing a lot of exercising, investing in a shuffle would be a great idea. It has no moving parts, so nothing can get jostled and broken.
Sorry for the long reply--hope this helps a bit!

  • Getting the Alpine iPod adaptor to work with the nano

I've had my Nano since September and love it. Had to purchase a new stereo for my car so I had a new Alpine Head Unit and the iPod adaptor installed. The radio works great. The adaptor will not work on my Nano no matter what I do. The error message I get is that my iPod doesn't support the attached accessory.
I've reset my Nano to factory settings twice and I've reset the Head Unit once. That seems to fix everyone else's problem but not mine. Now I'm stuck because I went to the Apple Store and was told my Nano is fine its an Alpine problem, I call Alpine and was told it works just fine with the Nano so it must be a Nano problem. At this point I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Gary,
Thanks so much for your response. I have the Alpine 9847 with the 420i iPod adaptor.
And I should have mentioned this before I did go back to the store for help. They tried and tried but couldn't get it to work (they reset my iPod several times and reset the head unit as well). They even tried to get my Nano to work on some other units in the store - Kenwoods and Alpines and couldn't get it to work anywhere. They swear to me that they've used this adaptor on other Nano's so they said go to the Apple store your iPod must be defective. The sales guy even brought out his iPod (40G I think - don't know the version) and it worked just fine in my car so of course in their mind an iPod work they've used it for other Nano's so they think the hook-up is OK (and I'm hard pressed to argue).
The man at the Apple Store said that the 420i doesn't work with Nanos or iPod videos because it was designed to work with USB Mass Storage and the Nano and iPod video uses PTP (I have no idea what this means). He said the problem was with Alpine because the adaptor needed a software update. I called the audio store back (and this is a actual audio store not a Best Buy/Circuit City type store) and they said they would look into this.
So I called Alpine and the man told me there is no software update and as far as he knew it worked with Nano and iPod videos even though it wasn't designed to work with them; there was nothing he could do for me so his solution was go buy a new iPod (of course my options are a Nano or an iPod video which brings me full circle to it won't work with the 420i). Plus its new I don't want another iPod I like the one I have!
So Apple says its Alpine's adaptor, and Alpine says its Apple's iPod - I say I just want to listen to my music!
The audio store is still trying to help but they seemed stumped as well. My iPod has had some quirks (took me over an hour to get my computer to recognize it tonight to reload songs, I have to have iTunes open before plugging in the Nano or it jams) but I never thought much about it. Is there such a thing as a tempermental Nano that can't be trained?
Thanks again for your help! (And sorry its so long but I figured the more info the better.)
    Jen

  • I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help, thanks.

I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help?  thanks

Just need to plug the TC in to the hub in bridge mode.. do not try and bridge the homehub.. it is not possible with the setup BT uses.
To bridge the TC.. plug it directly into a computer by ethernet.. no other connection to the TC or the computer.
Press and hold in reset until the front LED flashes rapidly.. about 10sec.
    Release the reset.
Open the airport utility and setup the TC to bridge mode.
The actual method depends on version of the OS and airport utility you use.
    This is version 5.
Sorry I cannot post the v6 as I am on a snow leopard computer now. But you go to the network tab, and choose off bridge mode for method of connection. It will be NAT and dhcp by default.
Then setup wireless.. you have a number of choices here.
Either setup with the same SSID Security and password, as the homehub uses.. or a different name, and password..
Each method works fine.. but you sometimes have issues with wireless channels.. for now leave it on auto and see what happens.. if you have issues lock down the radio channels on both devices.. use one out of the following on each, 1, 6, 11 or 13 in UK.. so say 6 on the homehub then 13 onthe TC.
Update the TC.. unplug fromt the computer and plug it into the homehub.
If you have other issues with the setup tell us what OS you run so we can post suitable screenshots.

  • Help Please - on a VC that works out of the box with MAC before I sellup

I have to declare that I’m somewhat frustrated at the moment and I could do with some good advise please bare with me while I explain.
I have recently converted from all types of PC systems and MS OS to Apple. The conversion was based on a few drivers.
1, My wife finally has decided to “learn” how to do her own web work instead of asking me to look up this or that for her. So as she was starting from scratch I thought MAC.
2, At the same time I had a play with Vista at work and disliked it. I was using XP & W2K at the time.
3, I wanted to update my home hardware, which was 3 years old.
4, The accountant said I hadn’t spent enough on IT last year.
5, New project work in the planning that required video/audio work to upload onto the web and everyone said MAC was the best.
So having looked around and done what I thought was enough research I started investing. To date I’ve invested £4500 plus.
    Started by buying
iMAC 24” 2.8 Gz Intel with 4GB ram (for the home office)
MacBook Pro 2.4 with 4GB ram (for out and about working)
    iPHONE 16GB (which is great)
VMware Fusion was installed for those things that I couldn’t live without until I found a suitable replacement like MS Money, Paint Shop Pro, MS Office etc. Installed XP.
Tried Open Office found it to clunky and hard work working off files for MS Office that others sent/required. Ended up buying Office 2008 only to find VB macros don’t work in Excel and all my company spreadsheets still need PC MS Excel to run so back into XP via Fusion.
Then to MAIL which is great on the iPHONE as I can easily monitor my 5 email accounts, what a result. But now I come to attach JPG files as I would in outlook and they open into the content of text in the mail and will not stay closed but disrupt the message. Wholly unacceptable to my way of working with no cure.
Scanning next, so I down loaded GIMP to replace PSP which I find useless so back to PSP I go again via XP & Fusion.
Next and finally the VC project, Now please bare in mind that all I want to do is shoot film, upload it to edit it and then mount it on the web page. I have no desire to become any form of expert in the field just get the job done.
So reviewed iMovie to understand the spec. Realise it has limitation and reviewed FCE which seems to plug the gaps and boarders on being more professional.
At this point I must say I’m not totally new to this subject as I have used Studio8 and a JVC GR-DVL166EK video cam a couple of years ago and got on ok without any issues simple plug and play with great results.
Having reviewed the standards that the software is reported to work too without any publicly declared exclusions or exceptions by Apple I went shopping for the VC. (I didn’t know of the forum at the time and to the best of my knowledge Apple don’t advise of its existence in any product information on anything I have bought.)
I buy a Panasonic HDC-HS9 for £700 which doesn’t flaming work despite the fact that it should based on all the standards quoted by both manufactures and there are no disclaimers from either party that it won’t work.
I have reviewed the compatibility list on the support page (now I know its there) and find that the Panasonic HDC-SD5 does work. I reviewed the comprehensive detailed model spec on the Panasonic web site and there is no differences between the to models at all accept the HDD.
    So why don’t it work?
*At the end of the day can anyone please recommend a VC that will produce high quality results without the need of a 3rd party software to connect and upload files convert and muck about instead of getting on with the job.*
And if all the publicised specs don’t allow you to conclude compatibility how can you protect your investment? Where do we legally stand and where is the accountability to the consumer.
    <edited by host>
I am that fed up with the last 3 months of mucking about Bill Gat*es may just get me back.
Thanking anyone in anticipation for some meaning advise and help.
    Regards
    Alan

Hi, and thanks for you interest. The problems is that whether I'm using iMovie or FCE I get to a stage where the thumbnail image is present but if you try to play, import or any other action in either app it closes down and a message comes up " The Application Final Cut Express/iMovie quit unexpectedly - Mac OS X and other application are not affected" then asks if I wish to relaunch. I then hit the report to Apple button and afterwards relaunch. I was recommended to use Voltaic which I have tried, it worked but is to much mucking about for something that should work out of the box.
This problem happens on both the iMAC and the MacBook so quite sure it's not a OS software issue. All software update are up to date also.
    Any ideas?

What are the different opinions on why pages should not achieve this?
As far as I know, Apple is free to choose to offer this or that feature.
They never said that they want to clone Word or even compete with it.
Differences between tables in both worlds are numerous.
    In Pages (or Numbers)
    - we can't sort a single column
    - we can't sort by row
    - we can't insert or remove a single cell
    - a cell can't cross pages boundaries
If I understand well these design choices match :

    Apple Human Interface Guidelines:
    Apply the 80 Percent Solution
During the design process, if you discover problems with your product design, you might consider applying the 80 percent solution‚ that is, designing your software to meet the needs of at least 80 percent of your users. This type of design typically favors simpler, more elegant approaches to problems.
If you try to design for the 20 percent of your target audience who are power users, your design may not be usable by the other 80 percent of users. Even though that smaller group of power users is likely to have good ideas for features, the majority of your user base may not think in the same way. Involving a broad range of users in your design process can help you find the 80 percent solution.
