Working with 2 FTP servers

In Golive I was able to set up 2 different FTP servers for 1
site (one I used for testing and one is live) I was wondering what
would be the best way to set this up in Dreamweaver CS3.
In Golive my workflow would be as follows
- select the testing ftp server
- edit a bunch of files locally
- hit "upload modified files"
- edit some more and upload using "upload modified files"
button
- test/fix bugs
Then to go to the live server all I would have to do is
switch my FTP server to be the live one and click the "upload
modified files" button and everything would just work
Please help, this is the last hurdle preventing me from using
Dreamweaver

I think I understand the concept of the "testing server" as
Dreamweaver defines it but I think the problem that I am running
into is that there is no "Put File" button to put the file onto the
testing server, it puts it on the live server. The only way I see
to get it on the remote server is to do a preview.
also is there an "Upload Modified Files" button like there is
in dreamweaver? maybe that might solve my problem. If I do a full
site sync it takes a long time to do.

I have MS Visual Studio Express 2013 It has worked fine for many months and then suddenly (I have made no configuration changes or added new programs) when I try to publish I am getting the message:
Unable to create the Web site 'ftp://ftp.xx.xx/xxx.org.uk/www/htdocs'. The components for communicating with FTP servers are not installed.
(I have replaced actual name with x's).
I had a similar problem some months ago and found that saving all files, closing VS 2013 and re-starting the program fixed the problem. This time it has not.
I am at a loss to know how to take this forwards. I do not use IIS.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,
For web site development, so you use the VS2013 express for web, am I right? We have to make sure that it is not the VS version issue.
As you said that it worked well before, did you install other add-ins or tools in your VS IDE like
Xamarin or others?
Maybe you could disable or remove all add-ins in your VS IDE, test it again.
please also install the VS2013 update 4 in your side.

My iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.

Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server. Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question: I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?

I'm running VS 2013 and when I try to publish to ftp site I get the following message. "Unable to create the Web site 'ftp://xx/'. The components for communicating with the FTP servers are not installed." It has been running fine. I
can publish to file system, web sites etc, just not through the ftp settings. I can access the ftp sites from my system, using other programs. It is not trying to connect to the ftp site at all.

According to your description, since we can publish an application to ftp site in Visual Studio Prof 2013 in our side. Therefore, to further make sure if the issue is related to the VS IDE issue. We suggest
you try to publish to ftp site on another machine you installed same version of VS Prof 2013 and then check it again.
If you can publish on another machine, I suggest may need to re-download the
VS Prof 2013 from Microsoft website and then install it again on your local machine.
If you still could not publish on another machine, I think that the issue is not related to the VS2013 IDE issue. If possible, I still suggest you post the issue directly to the IIS.NET Forum:

Says "did not respond", but works with test servers...

Hi all,
This one is driving me crazy! I recently bought an iSight camera and I'm now wanting to get it working with iChat and AIM. I'm behind a Linux firewall of my own construction (ClarkConnect / Fedora based) and at first I couldn't get it to connect to anything, with repeated errors saying that I "did not respond". However, after doing a lot of reading, I've opened up all of the required ports on the firewall and I can happily connect to the 'appleu3test01, 02, 03' servers.
However, attempting to connect to a PC running AIM brings back the "did not respond" error, and no amount of firewall twiddling seems to make it work. I've connected my Mac directly to the cable modem and this is the only way it will connect, and I've tried connecting to two different PCs in different locations. If I try to connect to a PC with AIM on my local network, there's no problem - I'm straight on - but going through the firewall just doesn't play.
I've also tried the trick of port-forwarding ports 16384-16403 to my Mac, but still no luck. Not tried connecting to a remote Mac with iChat yet, just because I'm the only person I know with all the right kit...
If anyone could lend their expertise I would really appreciate it - and so would my blood pressure! ;o)

With iChat launcged go to the iChat menu.
Log out of AIM
Go to the Preferences in the same menu.
Go to Accounts
Slect the AIm acount in question in the left hand list.
Now Click the Server Settings tab on the right.
This list the main connection port near the top but under the tabs.
Change this from port 5190 to prot 443.
Log back into AIM
Reason.
iChat logs on to AIM on port 5190.
It also uses Port 5190 to Group chat, send file and pics.
It does this over two interent Portocols
Now some modems need to be port forwarded on ports above a threshold of 1024.
Some go further and want Protocols listed.
Of those a small number will not let you Port Forward two protocols on the same port.
So moving the Login and basic text chat stuff to port 443 (a secure port below 1024) the problem is avoided.

Phpvirtualbox not working with multiple servers

Hi,
I have been working on phpvirtual box 4.1-7 for quite some time now. I was initially using it in windows 7 but when I wanted to access multiple serves through it, it did not work. Later I shifted to ubuntu and here also when i want to work using multiple servers it is not working. The error shown is "error connecting to vboxweb srvice". Even if i specify the ip address of the same host(i.e.localhost not 127.0.0.1 but 192.168.*.*) it shows the same error.
Pleas eadvise as to what I could be doing wrong. I am using ubuntu natty.

thanks for the reply. I am running the vboxwebsrv otherwise the phpvirtual box will not run at all right? And I am trying this on windows 7 also. Right now it is working if I run two or more instances on localhost as different users with different port but it does not work if i specify some ip. And the error is always could not connect.

Sp_addscriptexec is not working with FTP Snapshot delivery

We have a SQL Server Merge Replication topology. Both Publisher a Subscribers are using SQL Server 2012.
As I have seen in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174360(v=sql.120).aspx
"Using sp_addscriptexec to
post a script file for publications using FTP for snapshot delivery is only supported for Microsoft SQL Server Subscribers."
So we should be OK...
The problem is that the Merge Agent is looking for the Script in the local PC instead of download it form the
FTP Server.

I understand what you are saying and I know it would solve the problem, but it's now our case.<o:p></o:p>
We have other installations with Merge Replication using a shared path (UNC) to download the initial snapshot and every user script is downloaded also from
de shared location fine.<o:p></o:p>
In this case,
we have no direct access to a shared folder in server. The full replication process is done by internet without VPN.<o:p></o:p>
I think the “Snapshot folder” it's well configured as the snapshot it’s being downloaded OK from the
FPT Server.<o:p></o:p>
My question is: Why the merge agent connects to the FPT server for download de Snapshot but it does not do the same to download the user script??<o:p></o:p>
May be it’s a bug in the Merge Agent or some parameter I am not passing?<o:p></o:p>

Publishing bug with FTP servers - Spaces at end of file/folder names

I'm sharing what I've found after lots of troubleshooting with my Mom's iWeb website. I originally came across this in the previous version of iWeb, and have seen it again in the current version.
For the sake of this example, she had an image gallery on her site. The image file she added to iWeb had a space at the of the filename, just before the file extension, something like "image name .jpg"
In the old version of iWeb (iWeb 08), we would publish the site to a folder on her computer, and it would generate a folder for each image in the gallery. These folders would hold the original image and thumbnail image. Each folder name was the image's filename, minus the extension. In this example, the folder name was "image name " with a space at the end, which is valid on the Mac OS X file system.
When we uploaded it to the FTP site (which happened to be GoDaddy) using a 3rd party FTP tool, certain images would always fail to upload. After much testing and troubleshooting with other FTP software, we found that the FTP server did not allow spaces at the end of folder names, and it automatically replaced them with underscores. So, we tried to upload a folder called "image name ", and ended up with one called "image name_". As a result, we couldn't upload any of the files that were supposed to be IN that folder, because it could not be found under it's intended name.
Fast forward to today, using iWeb 09. Now the software allows you to upload to a 3rd party FTP server, so we've stopped using the other FTP software and do it all in iWeb.
She added a new image to her gallery and tried to publish changes, and got the error: "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again lager, or check with your service provider"
Once she removed the image, publishing worked again. It turned out the original image had a space at the end of the filename, just before the extension again. Once this space was removed, everything worked again.
Hopefully this helps somebody else down the road. If you have trouble with certain files, check them for spaces at the end, just before the extension. Perhaps in a future release, Apple could update the site publishing code to trim leading/trailing spaces from folder names.

It would be nice if Apple could make their error messages more descriptive of the actual problem so we have a better idea of how to solve it. I am "the mom" who had the problem B2Ben posted about.
The error message seemed to place blame on the ftp server or my ISP, consequently I wasted a lot of time with these people when it wasn't even remotely their fault.
As with most computer problems, I ended up learning a lot from it and it always helps with gaining confidence. This is my 20th year as a Mac user!.. yes, since 1989. I look forward to seeing what some of you have experienced with this same issue.

Iweb and index.html won't work with ftp provider

Hello all.
I have been working on my new website using iweb 09 and I have had problems publishing it to My ftp provider. I have followed all the prompts to the end, but when I have published my site and go looking for it on Web using my URL , it says there is an error.
I have been in touch with my host provider " Just Host" and this is the message they sent me ( I have copied and pasted it ):
As I see all you have uploaded to the *login name* account is index.html.
You have uploaded it incorrectly, to the root folder /login name/, whether index file and the rest of the site for www.mywebsite.com should be located in the /login name/public_html/ folder.
I've moved the file to the proper folder and the site started showing up the error.
Your index.html file is incorrect.
What does this all mean? I went to the apple shop and they suggested using Mobile Me as this would not happen, but that does not suit me as I have just signed up for 4 years with Just Host and I'd like to use them. The apple shop also told me that iweb separates each page of the website and assigns an index.html to each folder for each page and they supposedly are all linked? From the above e-mail if I understand it correctly, this is not the case or do I have to do something for this to happen?
I am at a total lost and having a melt down! Can any one out there help me in plain English as I am only new to all this and am only just getting familiar with the website terminologies? I have searched many forums and have had to look up hundreds of terms in " computer " dictionaries to understand what people are talking about. Please excuse my mental breakdown, as I am really worried that all this work I have put in will go down the chute.

I have managed to get my home page up thanks to your help, but for some reason now , it won't go to the following pages, about,products etc?
As I have done a few web site practices ,I have read that sometimes Iweb has trouble distinguishing between the different sites published in my site or public folders. Could this be the problem? Do I need to delete my old sites?
I tried to change the site name to another name but it won't allow me, every time I retype the new name it keeps jumping back to the extra www.etc.
Also for some reason , all the boxes where my page headings are, they seem to be out of line and a different size even though on my desktop on iweb my front page has all the boxes the same size.
Why is this?

Keynote 6.0 not working with SMB servers

Since upgrading to 6,0 when I try to open a Keynote file saved on our SMB server, it starts filling up the directory with temporary files, and actually destroys the original file so it can no longer be opened. It keeps popping up a little warning saying "The document could not be autosaved. You don't have permission to write to the folder that the file is in."
Anybody else running into this issue? The previous version of Keynote worked fine.

We are having this same issue. We are a marketing agency using Macs and a Samba file server. We rely heavily on Keynote for client presentations. Sad to see Apple completly ruining the implementation of Samba. Then, when I copy the Keynote file to the file server, launch the file from the server and click save - the single Keynote file is removed and replaced with a folder filled with junk. The Keynote file is gone and all work is lost. Thanks Apple!

How to work with FTPs?

I need to pick the file from client system using FTPs with SSL.
Please let me know what are the configuration or installation need to be done while doing this scenario.
we are using PI7.1 system.
As i know we have to deploy SAP javacryptographic toolkit. Please let me know any other prerequisite need to be done.

Does Firefox Home work with custom servers with a self signed certificate?

I've setup my own custom Firefox Sync server which has a self signed SSL certificate.
When I try to connect to it using Firefox Home I get the error:
Cannot Sync - Failed To Communicate With Server (1)
Firefox on my Mac and Windows laptop Sync fine with my custom firefox sync server providing I create an exception first. But no such luck with my iPhone.

Access your server with ssl using https://<servername> . Firefox will warn you about untrusted certificate, and suggest you to add an exception. This exception will work for firefox sync too.

Uploading with ftp client.

I am constantly updating my site on iweb but am wondering the best way to upload it. I use captain ftp and upload the whole site again everytime i update it. Is this right? Is it not using all my allocated data transfer limit.

What you wrote is basically what I understood I had to do but I hoped there was a better way than uploading manually.
In fact, even if iWeb has the BAD habit to re-create your whole site (especially when you add a new page) thus making large sites very difficult to manage (my poor Mac takes two hours to do that with my 220 MB domain file...), at least iWeb DOES know what it actually has to upload on .Mac.
Whenever you apply a change, you see icons on the left panel going red.
Unfortunately, that doesn't work with FTP publishing so you have to:
- keep track of what you have done or
- FTP upload your whole site any time you make a change or
- keep your "sites" in different domain files and make full uploads shorter
I do hope this thing is going to be solved, sooner or later: I have a .Mac account but, just as James wrote, there are many good reasons to use a third party's hosting.
At least, I'd like to be able to turn off the "Publish to .Mac" feature in the preference panel in order not to upload by mistake to .Mac a site I only upload via FTP.

Basically I want to know the design time process in iStudio for SMTP adapter.
I am pretty fine with FTP adapter and DB adapter. I have seen some scenario with FTP Adapter to FTP Adapter, FTP to DB, DB to FTP. When working with FTP adapter, at design time we usually create a Business Object with the event by locating DTD for it, then we publish, subscribe and transform. So here basically we know what kind of DTD has to be created for the message to get transferred between two FTPs.
But in SMTP, what kind of DTD has to be created. We have a scenario where we need to take the mail from the mail server and store them in database. So here it involves SMTP to DB adapter scenario, where I am clear with DB but not clear how to go about with SMTP. I mean, what kind of element has to created in DTD at design time.
Please anyone can guide me....

PI offers APIs to handle attachments in messages :

If your scenario requires custom development to fulfill your needs, you can use those APIs in your custom adapter modules ... PI/XI also offers the PayloadSwapBean module to replace payload with one of the attachments

settigns>itunes and app store to make sure you are signed in.. If you are, you will see your account name..... anyhow, click your account name, sign out and sign back in
also go to to settings>general>reset and reset network settings... if that doesnt work settings>general>reset and reset all settings!
one of those shall work. The last step would be to restore your device (apple.com/support) HT1414
