Working with a 720x480 16:9 source

I am working on a project where the source video is coming off a DVD. It says it is 16:9 ratio in 720x480. When I get it into FCP it looks stretched. The item properties say it is 720 x 480. When I go to sequence> settings and click Anamorphic 16:9 it seems ok. Do I keep the Anamorphic setting on? When I export (for DVD SP) using compressor, what compression do I use ? I am on a deadline.

what compression do I use ?
"DVD - Best Quality 90 Minutes 16:9" if your project is under 90 Mins. You can use the 120 or 150 minutes settings depending on the running time of your movie. Throw the AIFF track away and bring the MPEG2 and ac3 tracks into DVDSP.
If a slight quality penalty is not an issue you could use the "Fastest Encode" setting.

We have legacy data in an Rdb database on a VMS machine. Is there some way I can configure Portal so I can work with the objects in that database and use the wizards? I have a link set up, and I can successfully connect to the database using SQL Plus, but I can't access the objects in the database from within Portal using the object navigator. We've only started using Portal recently so maybe I've missed something obvious?...

I actually used 11.1.1.1 in an implementation. The CubeQuery for Essbase is a great improvement over the standard OLAPQuery. You can now do almost everything that you can accomplish with Web Analysis (member selection, subset) in terms of Essbase query functionality. It's worth a try. However, I remember having an annoying bug when used with Dashboard Architect although I can't seem to remember what it was.

This is a great overview of sequential use of source control with the xlf format. However, typically in a team setting, team members are working at the same time. Our team has found that many of the xlf files have one or more timestamp related entries that get updated even when no functional changes have occurred. This is particularly true of DOMDocument file, which timestamps changes, marks library elements as expanded or not, and tracks a published history. All of these changes conflict with anyone who is simultaneously working on the xlf. Any tips on how to deal with these issues?

F-source menu not working with Windows 7 and IE8

This may be completely the wrong place to ask for help, but I could not find place else.
Several years ago I purchased the code from f-source to display an Adobe style flash menu for my website. I installed it and it worked fine.
Recently, I learned that it does not display properly to those using Windows 7 and IE8 (this may have also been happening with Vista). Rather than seeing my menu titles, people see "Button1, Button2, Button3...".
I have sent two messages to f-source support over the past 7 days, but have heard or seen nothing in the way of a response. Can anyone help me to either 1) fix the problem or 2) know whether older f-source code will ever work with the newer browsers.

Do you understand the disadvantages of using Flash for navigation elements? It may be time to re-think this approach....

Table contained in a topic causes slow response when working with source

I am using RoboHelp V8.0.2 (I have applied the two fixes available from the Adobe product site).
Here is my issue:
I am documenting a product that has over 1,500 metrics.
I am trying to make a list of 1,077 metrics in one topic (all the metrics are of the same "type" so they are grouped together).
The table presenting these metrics has two columns, a Field Name column and a Description column.
There is not a lot of text within the table - most of the explanations and calculations are defined outside the table.
When I have more than about 400 table rows, the response time working with the topic in source is just horrible.
It took 3 minutes to open the topic in source, another 3 minutes to move the table over .425in from margin.
When I try to close the project, it gets hung up.
Has anyone else run into a problem working with tables within a topic?
I had a similar response time issue with V8.0.0 in general when I first installed it.
Once I installed the two fixes, that problem was (for the most part) eliminated.
I think the second fix specifically addressed response time issues when working in source.
I am going to try this on one of my other writer's machine to see if it is the age of my computer.
My computer setup is:
Dell Precision work station with an Intel Xeon 2.40GHZ processor and 2MB of RAM.
I am using Windows XP Professional 5.1.26 Service Pack 3.0.
I have a 110 GB hard drive with 18 GB available.

Interestingly the maximum number of rows you can use when you create a table via the Table > Insert > Table menu item is 100. That said, I've just created a 500 row table and whilst it is slower than a smaller table it is OK. I am also using RH 8.0.2 but on a higher spec PC.

I need to install Internet Explorer on my iMac G5 (OSX vs 10.4.11). Is there a secure source for downloading an older version of IE that will work with my system?

I'm not sure I properly asked my question. I have a need to post a resume to an employer who requires that the information be submitted via Internet Explorer. My OSX vs 10.4.11 will not accept downloads of the current IE version and Microsoft no longer supports any earlier versions that would work with my Mac. A web search shows thousands of download possibilties, but I am leery of what kind of schmutz might come with them. Has anyone in the community have any recent experience with a secure Internet Explorer download

Working with ODIInvokeWebServices: As Source and Target

Hi All,
I've been playing around with ODI, and now Im curious with ODI Invoke Webservice.
I read the info from Oracle site and says that the WSDL as a source , has to be translated to an XML. Then work with the data as an XML.
What about if i want to send the WSDL to a target? How do I generate the WSDL in ODI, and how do I send it? Is it possible?

Working with network source code

I've just noticed a problem with the CVI IDE while working with a project on
a networked share. The network went down twice in 2 days and the windows of
CVI stop responding, they become white and I can't even save my work to an
alternate location...

Why not use CVS or SVN that will create a concurrent copy of the repository locally and allow controlled merges to the network source with the added benefits of revision control.
I've been using CVI port on windows serverd on our local network for the past 10 years and not a single failure of corruption to date. If you need pointers let me know.

Working with flat file as source in owb 10.2

" to specify a data file configure the mapping , add a node under ' Source data file', type in the file name
and select the file location."

I tried the following stepts.
1. in Design Center select your mapping and right click and select configure
2. select sql loader data files and select create
3. On right hand side data file Name : enter your source file name (ex : source.csv)
4. click ok button.
5. open mapping and validate.
The mapping is validating. After validating I deployed the mapping. Up to this the mapping is working fine.
But when I start the mapping, It has completed with errors.
The error message is:

RPE-01013: SQL Loader reported error condition, number 1.
LRM-00112: multiple values not allowed for parameter 'control'
Job Summary

Problems working with source files

Just downloaded the new 1343 release. Really like the product. But ... working with source files in SQL Developer is my worst nightmare. When I open a source file either from SQL Worksheet or from File/Open menu my PC freezes for an extended period of time. CPU utilization shots up to 100% and stays this high until the tab is open. I am on Windows XPSP2. Help!!!.

We have reproduced your issue. If I open a large plsql program from the main SQL developer window (File Open) option it opens in a second or less. If from within the SQL worksheet, i right click and do a file / open on a small file it open in a second or less. If I right click in the SQL worksheet and do a file/open of a larger plsql program it appears to hang SQL developer.
We are looking into the issue.

LoadExternalModule throws error (-7 Unknown file extension) when working with source-code.

Utility library function LoadExternalModule (admittedly marked as obsolete - but key to one of our older software)
fails with error code (-7 Unknown file extension.) in CVI 2012SP1 and 2013 Version 13.0.0(647) on Win7
The suggested alternative Win32 API GetProcAddress doesn't work with source or obj files (so isn't an alternative at all)
The Target-Settings to "Enable LoadExternalModule" are already checked.
Any suggestions ?

Using the LoadExternalmodule as you mentionned requires using a .obj file but this lead me to an issue getting a Control value from an .obj file called from a dll
When using the LoadExternalModule function in CVI 2013, we can no longer use a .c file. Instead we have to use an .obj file.
My issue is that' impossible for me to get a control value from an .iur managed by the .obj witchi is called by a dll.
Otherwise it's impossible for me to get the control vale when calling the .obj from a dll.

If you only need Firefox 3.6 for just one thing then you may be better off using a portable version of Firefox as it will not impact your Firefox 6.0.2 install. You can install it on hard disk or on a usb flash drive. Firefox 3.6.22 is the current security update as 3.6.16 is old.

Will FCE 3.5 work with Apple pro-res source Quicktimes?

A buddy is supplying some footage he shot. He's importing into FCPro and outputting Apple pro-res quicktimes which he's then dumping to a drive for me. I'm curious if I'll be able to work with them in FCE3.5.

No, you won't. The ProRes component only comes with Final Cut Studio and Logic. Have the friend import using an Apple Intermediate Codec setting instead of ProRes, because FCE will work with that.

I wonder how a non-technical business analyst can use Report Builder 3 to create ad-hoc reports/analysis with list of parameters based on other data sets.
Do they need to learn TSQL or how to add and link parameter in Report Builder? then How they can add parameter into a report. Not sure what i am missing from whole idea behind Report builder then?
I have SQL Server 2012 STD and Report Builder 3.0 and want to train non-technical users to create reports as per their need without asking to IT department.
Everything seems simple and working except parameters with list of values e.g. Sales year List, Sales Month List, Gender etc. etc.
So how they can configure parameters based on Other data sets?
Workaround in my mind is to create a report with most of columns and add most frequent parameters based on other data sets and then non-technical user modify that report according to their needs but that way its still restricting users to
a set of defined reports?
I want functionality like "Excel Power view parameters" into report builder which is driven from source data and which is only available Excel 2013 onward which most of people don't have yet.
So how to use Report Builder. Any other thoughts or workaround or guide me the purpose of Report Builder, please let me know.
