Working with a template.. Very frustrating

Very new to After effects. Using on windows 7. Ae cc.ver 12.2.1, I Downloaded a template from videohive. So I'm trying to add several more text place holders. I select the tracks which I want to appear again, copy and paste them in the timeline. If I change the text in the new tracks it changes the text in the original tracks as well. Again I'm a noob so keep the cookies on the bottom shelf:) I need to know how to basically copy the text animation, background, lighting but be able to change the text independent of the original template.

I hate to say this, but possession of a template does NOT guarantee success to the AE newcomer. It could contain any number of expressions that prevent a straightforward replacement as you seek. It could have comps nested in comps nested in comps. At the moment, we have no way to tell.
Templates can have a high degree of complexity, but you're still unable to express your problem using AE's arcane terminology so everyone here can understand it.

If you're on a deadline, get someone else who knows AE to take on the project for you. The chances are almost-certain that you'd miss the deadline.

Crop a background image (movie) - working with a template

I'm working with the template "Promo > Product Shot". The image block with the bike is what I want to replace with my own video clip.
I can't figure out how to replace it, so I took the video clip and "placed" it. That's all fine, but now I want the size of the video clip to match the size of the bike block. I can scale it down to get close but then I'd have to crop the sides to get the vertical block shape.
Can't figure out how to do this either. Is it even possible?

I played with that tab a little but didn't understand exactly what it was so I never followed through with it.
I did follow your steps, but nothing happened. Perhaps there is something I have to do after selecting the movie?

Can I email photos w/o templates Iphoto provides? I used to be able to choose a few photos and email them. Now I have to work with these templates and can barely see what I'm writing!

Why Does Live View In DW Not Work With BC Template?

The live view using a BC template in DW CS6 shows "PAGE NOT FOUND" in the body section but the header and footer look fine. I should also point out that the index.htm page works fine, it's just the other pages that have this problem. What makes it weirder is that the site works fine in all other modes including when viewing in a normal browser, it's ONLY when in live view! I also noticed that if I delete the .htm extension in the url in the DW browser when in Live View it fixes the problem, but this requires me to do this everytime I want to switch to live view and surely is either a problem with how the BC template files are named or DW CS6 is buggy? Hopefully this is an easy one to answer??

My Apple TV suddenly stopped connecting to the server and the network. All devices in my house work just fine. Habe tried unpluggin, reset all settings, and disconnecting wireless and reconnecting, nothing works. Please help very frustrating

BUG: Dynamic report column headings not working with some templates

Using Apex 2.0, we are trying to create a vertical report with dynamic labels like &P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L. based on items populated by PL/SQL.
This seems to work fine for some templates but not for others. With a horizontal report template we get output like:

<td headers="Received" class="t4data">29-MAR-2007</td>But with the vertical template we get:
<th>&P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L.</th><td>29-MAR-2007</td>Also, if we use "default: vertical report, look 1" we see "&P26_REF_RECEIVED_DATE_L." in the output, but with "default: vertical report, look 2" we see "Received".

have you checked that your report template has a
valid value for the "Column Heading Template"
property?This template has nothing in the "Column Heading Template" because it is designed to show the data in this form:
Heading1 - Value1
Heading2 - Value2
Heading3 - Value3
Hence both the heading and the data appear in the "Column Template 1" property as follows:
<tr><th class="t3header">#COLUMN_HEADER#</th><td class="t3data">#COLUMN_VALUE#</td></tr>
Maybe it is an Apex limitation that the #COLUMN_HEADER# value can't be accessed from this subtemplate? Yet somehow it works with "default: vertical report, look 2" (which I realise isn't a template as such).

The redemption code they sent me in an email does not work...it says it is not active and to contact the store i purchased it from? Adobe is the one who sent this to me and i cannot get in touch with anyone. Very frustrated

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so disappointed with this software, very frustrated and I hate it. I want to return it.

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 11 and had the worst 3 hours trying to edit a 1:30 minute clip. I bought it on Amazon and they wont let me return it.
I've been using Photoshop for years and years and find PS to be very intuitive, what you see is what you get. So I figure all Adobe products will have the same amazing usability and easy of use that Photoshop has. Nope, Not with Premiere.
Here's the simple things I wanted to do that are extremely complex in this frustrating software.
1. I opened up an old clip that already had a text watermark on the bottom right of the video. I can't remove it, so I wanted to crop it out and only show the top 95% of the video. premiere doesn't let me do that.
It took me about 15 minutes to find "Crop". I go to action bar >> effects >> crop (Could they make it any harder to find btw?) and see the crop feature.
I think that if I click that then I will get a pointer and can drag it across my clip and crop what I want.
But no, it doesnt do anything at all, its useless. It tells me to drag it over my clip, I do and nothing happens. useless
2. I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhLBAT_kLHs
Near the end he creates a zoom, but that didnt work correctly for me.
3. So I guess I have to "trick" premiere to do what I want it to do. I created a gif similar in color to the area with the watermark that I want to cover. It will be a big rectangle over the watermark, and it will be ugly, but at least it will cover the water mark.
When it comes time to resize the gif Premiere resizing is a nightmare, you cant resize it the way you want, when you pull on the sides to expant it, it expands in the opposite direction (silent scream!!!!)
4. So I have to post 2 gif images in order to cover the whole area. Ok fine whatever, So I play the clip in the editor, it looks good, the watermark is covered.
I render it and export it.
The 2 gif images are an inche away from the watermark!
They are not OVER the watermark like in edit mode (Silent scream!!!!)
5. So now I figure its just buggy so I just closed it all down and restarted it.
Then I put my normal sized video clip back intot he time line, and Premiere made it into a thumbnail size, and if I enlarge it then it gets blurry (silent scream !!!!!)
Awful, just awful. Completely unintuitive and doesnt export what it says it's going to export.
What a frustrating experience with this software, I never want to touch it again.
Pleeeeeease let me return it and get my money back and I can buy something easier.

Working With HD Template in FCP 6

Hey All,
I just started messing around with the HD templates in FCP 6 and they are very cool. However, they seem to take a very long time to render. A 23 seconds is taking roughly 10 minutes. Does that seem right? Any suggestions on how to cut the render time down.

I've checked the setting and they are set to DV/NTSC not HDV. Also, is there a guide on online manual to use the HD templates. There's nothing in any of the manuals on how to use them. They all appear to have come right out of Motion.

Rendering and working with AE is very slow.

I'm running on Windows XP Pro, Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz, Clockspeed; 2,40Ghz, 3GB RAM. Whenever I'm working in AE it's very slow to use in full resolution. When I lower the resolution I still have to wait for the preview screen to 'load'. This is very annoying in a work situation. Am I doing something wrong? My pc is very fast with other 'heavy'programs.

AE will auto-disable MP if it does not detect enough RAM. You can still toggle it, but AE won't use it in any case. You could only change that by flipping some switches in your BIOS (if it supports this) that will make your 4 cores appear as only 2 cores or one core even, but this has some other side effects like possibly requiring a full re-install of your entire system...
The disk cache should be located on the fastest disk in your system. Doesn't matter which one, as long as it has enough space and is permanently available. Even a network drive or external disk would work. The only requirement is to create a dedicated directory for it. you can call it "Mom" or "Popsi" - doesn't matter. Calling it "AE Cache" would be smarter, though. ;-)
As for the rest: Don't expect miracles. Processing an x number of pixels can take its time, especially with some effects and in 32bpc mode.
Also be aware that, while AE will handle it, some compressed formats do not lend themselves for working interactively. AE needs to conform them and it will take time to look up the correct time index. This is further complicated if you have lots of clips or rather long clips. You can improve these behaviors sometimes by capturing to different CoDecs or converting the footage.
Part of the problems also may come from the graphics card. Even without OpenGL, AE will use your hardware to decode certain formats if possible and also for accelerated drawing. If your graphics are not up to snuff, have a bad driver or simply are configured poorly, they may have the opposite effect and instead of accelerating your workflow slow it down...
Lastly, make sure your system is in good shape. Work off the fastest disks, clean them regularly of temporary files, defragment them and make sure their RAID/ SATA drivers and configuration are flawless.

Dreamweaver CS5 not working with CS4 templates?

I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 of Dreamweaver today and so I opened a template up in CS5 that I made for my site in CS4. So everytime that I make a new page from the CS4 template it will look good in the editing view and I can edit everything I'm supposed to like it should. But whenever I test the page in my browser or the Live View it won't use JavaScript or it won't show me AdBrite ads in the page and it messes up my CSS. I have no clue why its doing that because the new pages from this template in CS4 work fine but new pages in CS5 from the template wont show up correctly. Oh and every other page that I made in CS4 works very well in the CS5 but the new pages in CS5 just won't seem to preview well. Do you guys know of any solution for this or how I can solve this annoying problem?

One thing to note if you attempt JulesN's solution of moving the DIV tag inside the editable region... since this move is to a "non-template" area.. on many pages of your site it will simply mean the removal of the DIV tag outside the editable region. You will need to manually go into each page and add the DIV tag back into the editable region as Template updates do not modify the content of those regions.. I tried this today and had hundreds of pages instantly stop displaying correctly before I realized the logic behind it.. I was able to recover. However if you are using nested DIV tags as containers.. they are all either one big editable region or you need to wait till Adobe fixes this and use CS4 as I'm being forced to. I have submitted as a bug as well.

Working with Word Templates and signed Word macros storing documents in SAP

HI,
we are storing word documents in the SAP BDS. The documents contain macros. The security settings for word macros cannot be reduced in our environment.
So the documents / macros were signed. They work well. but as soon as they have been stored in the SAP BDS, we get the error message "You have modified a signed project.You do not have the correct key to sign this project. The signature will be discarded"
After that the word macros do not run.
Does anybody know this problem and the solution?

Working with angularjs templates doesn't work?

I am using angularjs - i should better say i'd love to - for component implementations. But when i try to set up a link, CQ modifies the link and let's it appear broken. The thing is, after the template has been processed, the right data appears in the markup - the link is bascially broken.

Instead of the simple resolution of the templates. The data passed to the controlller, which is used for rendering, is correct.

Word 2013 - Work with Master Documents very slow

Hello,
we changed from Office 2003 to Office 2013.
A user who creates many documentations by using master documents informed me, that he cannot work longer by using Word 2013, because extending master documents or refreshing table of contents takes long time.
In Word 2003 it takes few seconds, in Word 2013 in takes some minutes!
How can I improve this?

The Master Documents "Feature" in Word has long been broken. It remains broken in Word 2013 AFAIK. Read the linked article. There are alternatives. One of the easiest ways to lose
tremendous amounts of work is to edit documents in Master Documents form. That you have used it this long without losing work is a minor miracle.

How to install and work with label templates?

I'm designing some product labels including text and graphics and want to print them on to Avery labels, 21 per A4 sheet. Is there a way I can design the label and then get it to print multiple copies on to the avery sheet without having to copy and paste the whole time?
