Working with adobe premiere cs6 on multiple computers

Hello,
I work in a school and we are currently using premiere cs6. We have a major issue with working on multiple machines that I can't seem to find a solution for online. The problem exists with the media cache. I understand that when opening a very large project for the first time, it will take 20-30 minutes to conform all of the audio and cache all of the mpg files. unfortunately, when working on muliple machines, this can be a bit excessive. Everytime the project is opened on a new machine it takes 20-30 minutes to open the project again. We thought that if we moved the media cache and database folders with us, from machine to machine, that it wouldnot have to cache and conform everything again, but that doesn't seem to be working. Even with all of the cache folders copied from the other machine over to the new one, it still goes through the tedious process of conforming and caching when it is opened on a new computer. How does someone use the software on mulitple machines with out having to go through this excessively long process of opening the project??

Working on multiple machines is a pretty common workflow. For example, if I have an assistant editor and they are pulling selects and cutting small scenes on their computer, saving premiere project files etc., then they bring the project over to my house (editor) and we need to open up the projects we would have to wait 30 minutes for the project to load. This is a big problem. Also, I work in a school. So we have a lab of 25 computers equipped with Premiere. If a student stores their 45 min movie on their external hard drive, and they come into the lab the next day, they might have to use a different computer if someone is on the one they used the day before. Then, when they open their project, they will have to wait 30 minutes to load the project. I've seen and heard about this issue from many editors. Most of them chose AVID when they migrated away from FCP because of this issue. It is very practical that with a large project with multiple editors, especially with a sequence duration of over 30 minutes, for the project to have to be moved to multiple machines and editors, this is common in the industry. Adobe Anywhere does address this issue, but for right now it is very frustrating to work on large projects with Premiere if we have to open the projects on multiple machines. I feel that this problem is really keeping Premiere from being the best it can be, I've been using Premiere for 10 years and I am a strong advocate for the software. I'm totally confused by this issue coming up now, when Adobe is striving to fill the void of the professional video editing market that was left open when apple released iMovie Pro.

  • Any pre keyed effect sites that work with adobe premiere elements 11?

I have been trying to find a legit non scam/virus site with pre keyed effects like explosions, gunshot fire, fire, and other effects like that.
Most sites that I've tried are virus' or only work with imovie.
Anyone know of any good sites that have pre keyed effects that works with adobe premiere elements 11? (they don't have to look good, I am just practicing with those)

In my book "Cool Tricks & Hot Tips for Premiere Elements 11", I recommend and show you how to use clips from the wonderful site http://detonationfilms.com/ to create explosive effects.

  • NVIDIA Geforce 840M with HP Envy 15 Lapytop - working with Adobe Premiere Pro

I have had this HPEnvy for a fortnight and am wondering for how much longer. I use the laptop extensively for video
editing, often away from home. To begin with, everything was fine. Now, just a fortnight later, it will often start Premiere Pro with the "Video Rendering and Playback" options greyed out even though the previous day it wasn't greyed out. When this happens, playing back video within Adobe Premiere, it runs for a few seconds and then becomes very jerky and stuttery.
I have tried updating ALL video card drivers.
I notice that there are two video cards displayed in Device Manager. One is the NVIDIA Geforce 840M, the other sometimes appears as 'Basic Microsoft***" and sometimes as Intel***. Should there be two display cards showing?
I would expect you to point me at Adobe but I believe something is happening BEFORE Premiere gets a look in.  The laptop seems sluggish when loading any software. Just for the record, I have uninstalled Premiere Pro CC and have restored the Laptop to it's "as delivered" condition. This took some time, of mcourse, but did not improve matters.
As things stand at present, I cannot use the Envy 15 for it's intended purpuse.
I would be grateful for any advice as to why this is happening. Has anyone else experieced it?
Many thanks for your time and expertese.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

A little further information, following a full day of trying this and that!
It MAY be associated with the power pack. If I remove the mains power pack, it reliably boots and when Preiere CC is run, it allows selection of the CUDA/Mercury Playback options. If I boot the laptop with the mains power connected, then Premiere CC will not allow selection in the CUDA/Mercury box in Project Settings.
BTW the profile notes say I am running Windows NT. That should read Windows 8.1 - I am not sure where the NT came from!
    Thanks again,

  • Does the 13 inch macbook pro, retina display, 256 GB HD, 16 MB Memory, Intel Iris Graphics work with Adobe Premiere Pro CC?  I'm worried about the Intel Iris Graphics

I'm thinking of buying this computer, mostly for screenwriting.  But I might want to occasionally use Adobe Premiere Pro CC

not good enough.  you need a 15" that has 2 graphics cards (both dedicated and discreet graphics card).

  • Mac Book Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013 does not seem to work with Adobe Premiere CC 2014

So I have just spent brought the latest mac book 15 inch pro with Nvida, and rendering some screen recording I originally captured in quicktime with a few backgrounds crashes adobe cc, it takes about 4 min, I can hear my mac getting hot, and says a serious issue has occurred and it needs to quit??? I also have FCP and the same footage renders in 2 min and finishes without any issues.
If I change it to software mode still gets crazy hot and after 40min had only got to 40% completed, so that is not a viable option
This seems to be a common topic on the forum without any solutions. here is my error report. Any ideas???

  • How well does a new Mac Pro work with Adobe Premiere CC 2014

I'm trying to spec out a new Mac Pro so I can edit 4K footage from a RED camera. I currently edit using Premiere CC 2014. I've heard all kinds of bad stories with the new Mac and Premiere and was wondering if anyone has had a good experience. These are the specs I'm looking at for the mac. Thanks in advance.

Those AMD Dxxx and drivers as well as it may take a product cycle for Adobe if they are interested in the 6,1 customer base.
Dual AMD PCIe 7xxx and above even in dual setups, or of course you can throw one or two nVidia GTX 7xx into those silver "oMP" 2009-2012s (the 2008 just lacks good decent PCIe GPU performance with good graphic cards).
Also the way the nMP will 'share' and throttle to limit itself to 450W and its thermal design so that both GPUs and the processor are not both given full reign (they do when running Windows 8.1 natively - 8.1 because that is the "oldest" version supported with drivers and booting via Apple).

  • I am editing a highlight reel for class of a famous artist. I downloaded one of her HD MP4 films off iTunes. Everytime I try importing it to Final Cut Pro X everything freezes up and it shuts down. Same thing with adobe premiere CS6. Any ideas?

If it helps I have the new 2.9 ghz Imac with Nvidia.

  • Adobe Premiere CS6 'Create new Trimmed Project' Crash with .MXF files

Yesterday I started to back up all our students work, and found that the "Create New Trimmed Project" no longer works in CS6 with .MFX files.
Adobe Premiere CS6.0.3,  crashes when I try to "Create New Trimmed Project" under "Project Manager"
This only happens when there are .MXF files in the Sequence.
As we use Panasonic P2 cameras at this university, this is a problem, as this is the format that they shoot in.
As a test I have made a Project with only one .MXF file placed on the sequence, and it crashes.
This happens on my Macs and Windows machines with Adobe Premiere CS6 .
Adobe Premiere CS5.5 works fine, and does not crash.
    Unfortunately I cant save a CS6 project as a CS5.5
If you don't have any .MXF files to test this,
You can make your own .MXF files by exporting any video file as "MXF OP1a" or "P2 Movie" Format, (the Preset setting is irrelevant - any preset will cause it)
    P.S.
Using "Collect files and Copy to new Location" under "Project Manager" works fine, but does not reduce project size as much.

I also discovered this behavior last summer.  Unfortunately the best (lame) answer I could find was that "Some formats, such as Long GOP based media files, cannot trim media, or add handles."  Source:  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7c72a .html
That's not very specific, but in my case at least (and it sounds like in your case, too) .MXF may be another file type that cannot be trimmed.  If I remember correctly, the answers I got from others was that they were able to export fine.  My machine (and maybe yours) has an issue that nobody else seems to have encountered.  So none of the prescribed remedies allowed me to move forward in this regard.
After much searching, asking and several suggestions from various Premiere communities, I gave up and moved on.
Use Remove Unused and then Collect Files and Copy to New Location.  At least that can help you if you have a lot of clips.  In my case, it didn't help much, because my very short clips were edited from very long takes, so as Premiere sees it, not much was "unused".
Be aware that "Project Manager does not copy and collect After Effects compositions that are dynamically linked to an Adobe Premiere Pro project. Project Manager does save the Dynamic Link clip in the trimmed project as an offline clip, however."
Wish I could offer you more.

  • XDCAM HD workflow with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Macbook Pro

    Hi folks,
I have an assignment for a TV production to secure and convert the data (mxf files XDCAM HD 422 1080i 50 / 50 Mbit/sec with 8 audio channels) from Sony XDCAM camcorders (PDW-700) for postproduction.
The producer wants me to convert the mxf files during production to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) for faster and smooth editing during postproduction.
I'm not sure about the final output yet, but I guess it will be either 720p50 or 1080i 25, since the production will be broadcast and as far as I know this is the standard for HD on German television. It is also not clear which NLE will be used for editing (usually one of the producers edits their projects with FCP, but this time they've got their hands full and are still looking for someone to outsource postproduction.
Unfortunately, my Macbook is getting fixed as we speak, so I can't try things out.
Since this is the first time I'm doing this workflow, could someone please check if I got everything right?
    1. Can someone please confirm that I can actually convert the mxf files using AME CC to Apple ProRes 422?
Or do I need to install any other tools/converters for this task? Does MPEG streamclip do the job? Any other freeware?
    2. When converting to Apple ProRes422, the producer suggested to deinterlace the footage (1080i 50) to 25p, if 720p or 1080p I have to find out tomorrow since our conversation got interrupted this afternoon.
In my opinion this doesn't make sense, though. First, if output to 1080i 25 it has to stay interlaced anyway. Second, in case the output will be 720p 50 I would edit the footage either natively or in Apple ProRes 422, but leave deinterlacing until the very end when outputting to the final format. This way I could use an advanced deinterlacer, e.g. the one from Magic Bullet Suite, rather than just checking some deinterlace box in the export settings for Apple ProRes 422.
The reason the producer suggested to deinterlace right away when using  an intermediate like ProRes was that she and the client got irritated by the jagged lines from the interlaced footage when editing the last project with the same requirements on a progressive display.
    3. What would be the best solution to tackle this issue (jagged lines) during editing?
As I said my Mac is getting fixed, so I have no way of trying things out,and I usually edit DSLR footage which is progressive anyway.
But if I remember correctly I can switch my monitor between 1080p and 1080i. This should do the trick, shouldn't it?
    4. Can I keep all of the 8 audio tracks when converting to ProRes using AME CC ?
    5. Is ProRes422 (HQ) really necessary, or is the regular quality sufficient for this kind of job?
    6. Let's assume the whole project would be edited within Adobe Premiere Pro CC and  system specs as stated below:
Since Adobe Premiere Pro CC has native support for  XDCAM HD is there any advantage of using an intermediate like ProRes at all?
How smooth is native editing with XDCAM HD in Premiere Pro CC? I don't think there will be more than 3-4 video tracks in use...
    Thanks for your help!
    working with
Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Adobe Media Encoder CC
    Apple MacBook Pro
Intel Core  i7 Quad Core Prozessor
    2.3 GHz and 6MB L3 Cache
    16 GB RAM 1600MHz DDR3,
    256 GB SSD
Intel HD Graphics 4000 512MB + nVidia GeForce GT 650M with 1 GB GDDR5 RAM

Thanks Jim! I knew there must be a reason xdcam is widely uses for eng aquistion :) I think they used FCP 6 or 7 on their last project... So what about monitoring interlaced footage on a progressive screen? Any advice on that? Is there a converter built in to APP CC that deinterlaces in realtime when monitoring interlaced sources on a progressive screen? And would you agree that deinterlacing source material is best left right before outputting?

"Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation."

You must have a Mac.  Try this.
Quit Bridge, from user library (NOT system and root library) preferences folder find and delete the com.adobe.bridge5.plist file manual. Do this also in same user library caches folder (Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS6) and inhere find and the folder called 'cache' and drag it to the trash.
restart Bridge holding down option key and choose reset preferences, then try again.
